Wrong analogy. All paintings are unfinished to the artist. We generally have to just move on unless it’s a commissioned piece. Ask any painter. All paintings are unfinished. The book and then the screenplay were perfect . The story of Forrest's life was like a Mobius strip , the perfect ending lead to a beautiful beginning .
It's only a matter of time before they remake this movie with a more "updated" cast. You may laugh and dismiss this idea, but almost every movie gets a remake one way or the other.
Those remakes always have 3 things in common: 1 - A token woman shoved in somewhere because the original had a sausage-fest scene. 2 - A ginger character replaced by a black person. 3 - Nobody remembers them 6 months after they come out.

Not every film needs a sequel. I think this is a prime example of one of those. If you want to see another Forrest Gump, check out a much more recent Bollywood film that is sort of a retelling of Forrest Gump but in India. Sorry I forgot the name of the film.
Unless the sequel was genuinely inspired, I think it’s best left alone as a stand-alone movies. Some movies like this one, you don’t make a sequel. You know you captured a special kind of magic, and the sequel would risk being a parody of itself. Or worse, a paint by numbers cash grab. They made the right decision.
If I remember correctly, they didn’t want them to make a sequel to it so in the book they tried to get them to do all these crazy things that would ultimately make it impossible to make a sequel of that book without spending more money on the movie than they could make for all the copyrights to all the different positions he gets and all the different things he doeswith all the characters
As an addon to my comment of Vietnam it only ended when the NVA troop rallied they forces and what tanks and heavy artillery they had and took the southern capital of Saigon in 75 so about 76 76 he probably got the boat after the sponsorship payout
Okay, here’s what I read/heard, but I don’t have source info, so take it with a grain of 🧂. Winston Groom, the author of the book Forrest Gump the movie was based on got royally screwed out of royalties due him once the movie was a success. So when the studio hit him up to write a sequel (Gump & Co.), he not only made sure they paid him handsomely up front, but he deliberately wrote the worst, craziest, insane, unadaptable novel as a little “fu@k you” gesture toward the studio who felt they could only do a sequel if it was based on previously published material. Now, I haven’t read it, but I’ve heard it’s not a very good sequel book. But I respect the author’s decision not to be taken advantage of twice!
Considering there was a sequel book that did well it would have been a good reason to make a sequel but only based on the second book, otherwise it should be left as it is, no remakes, please!
The book continuity vs the movie never really made sense to compare to. Jenny was still alive by the end of the first book and while Gump had a son with her, he left them alone as she was married to some other guy. The second book is basically a repeat of the first with him starting from scratch (basically lost all his money) for more history stuff and jenny related drama. A sequel movie wouldn't have much of a plot considering all the changes needed and how nicely the first movie tied everything up.
@@sws212 To be fair, once you kill the storyline of the first book in the movie, you can't make a sequel. the idea of whether the second book is appealing or not is subjective. objectively it did well, as many bought the book if I am not mistaken, so they would have had an audience. i guess from a movie standpoint he felt they have nowhere to go considering they killed her off which was a stupid decision by the writer.
