If You're Impressed by Frankie Valli Singing this, You're Minds will be BLOWN when you found out this song was written by Barry Gibb of THE BEE GEE'S! Regrettably, He's the Last of the Brothers Gibb and was the Eldest too boot. My Heart goes out to him.

Barry Gibb was a class act, proper musicians, you just don't see that quality these days, too many "artists" rely on technical support.

I'm watching the first 2 episodes of Grease Rise of the Pink Ladies on Paramount+ for the nostalgia because I really enjoy musicals...
Edit: I'm enjoying the new Paramount+ series, it's awesome to see a much younger Frenchie since it's a prequel to the movie and the choreography for the songs is perfect, the entire cast sang *Spoiler Alert* in the first episode 😂🎶😎...

Just wanted to add that the Four Seasons had nothing to do with this song. Yes, Barry Gibb wrote the song and sang backup. He also brought in Peter Frampton to play guitar. The rest of the band consisted of members of Andy Gibb's band.

Olivia- Newton John was the reason I loved Grease. Her innocent school girl looks, and that amazing ballet "Hopelessly Devoted" Oh! yeah! those skin tight black pants in the final musical scene sealed my "love" for her.😂 .I was only 8- years old,and had a kid crush on Olivia LOL😂🥰

You know the zipper was messed up in those pants and they had to sew her into them? Lot of people don't know that. She put the pants and jacket up for auction for her breast cancer hospital in Sydney. A wonderful man bought them - then gave them back to her. Made me cry - but happy tears

Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons "Dawn" and "Rag Doll" blast out working class themes that Billy Joel paid homage to in Uptown Girl.

    • @wnsafford1854
      @wnsafford1854 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Just to add a bit; Billy did an interview on Howard Stern, where he talks about writing Uptown Girl, saying he heard "like a 4 Seasons thing" in his head. He sings a bit of Uptown Girl, saying "that's supposed to sound like Frankie Vallie" & mentions Rag Doll. He also points out that Rag Doll contains the line "I Love You Just The Way You Are", so it inspired 2 of his songs.

Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons was another group I grew up with in the 60's. They had so many great hits together such as "Sherry", "Walk Like a Man", "Candy Girl", "Let's Hang On!", "Working My Way Back to You", "I've Got You Under My Skin" etc. When Frankie went out on his own in the 70's, the songs "My Eyes Adored You" & "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" were big hits for him. Also he had a hit with the song "Grease" from the movie. Always loved that he was able to sing in a falsetto voice.

Franke Valli has one of the most distinctive voices. He hit before autotune, before advanced studio tech. His voice is truly one of a kind. Normally you can't get those effects without production alteration. Amazing what he can do just with his voice alone.

Grease was a Broadway play brought to the big screen by Robert Stigwood, Bee Gees manager, who also produced Saturday Night Fever, both movies starring John Travolta.Stigwood needed a song named Grease for the opening of the movie, called Barry Gibb, and had it 2 hours later. Barry called falsetto icon Frankiie Valli to record it, produced it, and provided some backing vocals. It’s was a #1 hit. Please react to YVONNE ELLIMAN IF I CAN’T HAVE YOU - from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, written by the Bee Gees,

Coming off of the huge success of Saturday Night Fever, John Travolta and Robert Stigwood move on to their next project: a movie based upon the stage play "Grease."
But, having been a play, naturally there was no opening music for a film, so Stigwood had an idea: since Barry Gibb had done such a great job writing the music for Fever he should have no problem with THIS thing... only Gibb had reservations.
When Stigwood gave him the name of the movie Gibb was somewhat taken aback: "Grease? What a word!"
That ended the discussion... for a few hours... then Gibb called Stigwood back on the phone... "You know, it's not just a word... it's THE word!"
And THAT was how Stigwood knew he'd agreed to write the movie's opening song... you know the rest...

NOTES: "Grease" was originally an off-off Broardway musical by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. Named after the 1950s United States working-class youth subculture known as "Greasers." Grease was first performed in 1971 in the original Kingston Mines nightclub in Chicago. In June 7, 1972, the production moved to the Broadhurst Theatre on Broadway, and on November 21, it moved to the Royale Theatre there, where it ran until January 27, 1980. For the five final weeks of the run, the show moved to the larger Majestic Theatre. By the time it closed on April 13, 1980, it had run 3,388 performances. The 1978 movie's title song "Grease'" was composed by Barry Gibb for the movie, and was not in the Broadway play. The song was a kind of DISCO/FUNK with a hint of ROCK & ROLL, and sung by Frankie Valli (BIG GIRLS DON'T CRY, SHERRI BABY) to help give it a little more 50s flavor.
The original Broadway cast included BARRY BOSTWICK (ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW) as Danny and Carole Demas as Sandy, with ADRIANNE BARBEAU (MAUDE) as Rizzo, Timothy Meyers as Kenickie, Alan Paul, and Walter Bobbie and Marya Small in supporting roles. Replacements later in the run included JEFF CONWAY (TAXI) as Danny, Candice Earley as Sandy, John Lansing as Danny, Peter Gallagher as Danny, RICHARD GERE (AN OFFICER AND GENTLEMAN) as Sonny, Ilene Graff as Sandy, Randee Heller as Rizzo, MARILU HENNER (TAXI) as Marty, Judy Kaye as Rizzo, Marcia Mitzman Gaven as Rizzo, the late PATRICK SWAYZE (DIRTY DANCING) as Danny, JOHN TRAVOLTA (SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER) as Doody, Treat Williams as Danny, Laurie Graff as Frenchy, and Jerry Zaks as Kenickie. [P.S. - R.I.P. OLIVIA NEWTON JOHN]

Correction the movie is from the song the movie Grease is based off of the 1958 single grease by Frankie valley.
The song is describing how people lose their sense of conventionality and connection to one another simply by the belief of you can be who you are is describing the exact terms in which we live today
