    Picket Planter! #MakeMoneyWoodworking #FreePlans #ProjectsThatSell
    We have planted many different varieties in these boxes and they are doing great. I do not use a liner; cedar is naturally weather sealed and will not rot, warp, decay or mold. I also did not seal the boxes with any sort of clear coat or paint. Overtime, cedar will turn from its pretty redish brown to grey when exposed to sunlight for a prolonged period of time.
    These are a great foot-in-the-door project for anybody who is looking to begin selling their woodworking projects, or simply taking their woodworking hobby to the next level. Before these planter boxes, I only made furniture and built things for myself, and family (where I only charged them for the materials). These boxes not only helped me to make my first dollar by woodworking, but when posting this video, I have made $2408 profit; and yes, thats factoring in my total materials cost, from buyers in a small town of 3000 people.
    Two tips not mentioned in the video:
    1) do not take large orders or custom orders without obtaining a deposit. Luckily I had only one person order a taller 25x16x16 box and stop responding to me, his name is Ron Whitaker... Unfortunately I did not take deposits or payment in advance, but these are also not expensive to build.
    2) you can use treated boards, cedar is less than a dollar more and better for the plants, unless you use a liner and are going to paint the exterior.
    PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE like this video so it can be suggested to other cool cats like yourselves. Bye for now!!

      Love the long planter boxes, made one over the weekend and already sold anyone. Thank you for your videos and plans. I was wondering why the addition of some screws in the long planter ends when you didn’t use any for
      The other planter boxes

      I know nothing...but I want two of these. I don't want to bend over to garden. Can the box be made 3 feet tall and remain stable???
      I made it to the end of the video. Thank you very much for sharing.

    I have made this and I really like the slick design and free diagrams- I have used a pump up sprayer to add sealer to mine and have add a THICK 55gallon drum liner (trash bag) to the inside with the drilled holes through both this will keep the moisture in longer and will make the wood last longer- Again great video waiting on the promised 3 pcs trifecta planter group video!! keep up the great work!

    Made a pair of these for my Mom for Mother's Day. They are beautiful! Quite sturdy as well. Very happy with how true they came out using cedar. I had to buy 1x4" and 1x2" cedar boards for the legs and top rails, respectively, because I don't have a table saw for ripping planks. I was a little heavy handed with the staples. Used twice as many as you per box. Thanks for the plans. Keep up the cool project videos!

    Aaron. Great videos and great ideas. I managed to get some 1" cedar boards at a great price from a local fencing company, 50 cents a board!! I bought up what they had and started doing a search for planter designs and found your TH-cam channel. I am impressed at your willingness to freely give these ideas and tutorials to others. I don't have the shop room you have so a table saw is not an option for me and have to rely on my circular saw for the ripping or I may just use precut 3" cedar boards for the legs and trim. I enjoy your enthusiasm in sharing your talents. You the Voss!!

      @@WhosTheVoss They were not grade A clean boards, some knots, some cracks but I am able to make use of the major part of the boards. I made a couple of fence board planters a couple of years ago. Mine are about 2' x 4' x 30" and are constructed just like yours. These are three boards high for the box, and do hold a lot of dirt. This year the lower board on the long side started to move down on one end. I had to get some clamps to draw the board back into position and then glued and nailed some scrap board to the inside of the leg to support those long boards. Next time I build some, I'll add these additional supports from the get-go. Nice job on your video.

    Nice job. Just one tip, use galvanized brads. Only a couple dollars more and they will not rust out as fast. 18 ga. non-galvanized brads rust away completely in just few years. Keep up the good work.

    Found this on accident a few weeks back. You made this look almost too easy but I decided to give it a try. Picked up 28 Pickets a week ago to make 4. Yesterday I had some time in the evening so I printed the cut list and cut all the pieces I would need, minus the trim. Took me between an hour and a half and two hours so not too bad. This morning my wife offered to put them together since I also had 2 other projects I was working on so I sent her a link to this video, set up a work space for her with some glue and a 18 gauge nail gun. Now my wife is one of the most intelligent people I've ever known, she was an Aircraft Mechanic in the Air Force after all but she very rarely does any wood working. I showed her how to load the nail gun when it ran out and let her go. I said you made this look almost too easy but it really was as easy as it looked. My wife had all 4 assembled in under 4 hours and all that was left for me to do was cut and attach the trim. So what's the verdict? The plans were perfect and the video was super simple to follow. Easy to put together? I thanked my wife for the help and she said, "All I did was put them together, you did the hard part." I don't agree who did the hard part but that should tell you how easy it was. How do they look? We intended to put two on each side of the driveway and they will look great there. The problem though is I put them on the deck after they were done and I really like them there. That means I'm making another trip to the big orange box store for another 28 pickets this week.
    Great job with this. I've definitely sub'd and will try a few more in the near future!

    Hey Aaron, thanks for posting this! I’m officially down the rabbit hole, table saw, circular saw, pocket hole jig, router, not mad tho!
    Questions…using cheap cedar from HD, where should I start with sealing/paint esp for the legs/parts that touch the grass? And how bad are interior brad nails to use outdoors? My first iterations that I sold use them :/. Also just a tip, Matt P did this cool 45° rotation hack to make a pointy tip on end of beams. That being said 21!

    Great video and explanation- one question- your plans call for 4 pieces of 5 1/2 x45 inches, but your video showed them being cut at 44 inches- which one should be used?

    • @WhosTheVoss
      @WhosTheVoss  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Ooooooo nice catch! As long as all four of them are cut the same length, it wont be an issue. Only thing it might affect is the last board you rip down to put in the center :)

    • @chaddrose8182
      @chaddrose8182 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I pre cut everything according to the plans and had to trim the two supports for the bottom boards and the long, top trim pieces came out a tad short but good enough for my patio. Came back to watch the video again and that's where I noticed the discrepancy for the long side boards. No worries though, I really like how simple these plans are and how good the finished product looks. Of course the smell of cedar is always a plus.
