I couldnt believe it, a planter box created from only 3 fence pickets? Costing only $3 each, these planter boxes have a low production cost of around $10! You can see all over facebook marketplace where people are selling them for $60-$80, but I found mine to sell the best when priced at $30. And many people bought this size box as an add-on. A lot of people either wanted custom boxes. Which, I qouted a selling cost of $10 per $3 fence picket I used.
We have planted many different varieties in these boxes and they are doing great. I do not use a liner; cedar is naturally weather sealed and will not rot, warp, decay or mold. I also did not seal the boxes with any sort of clear coat or paint. Overtime, cedar will turn from its pretty redish brown to grey when exposed to sunlight for a prolonged period of time.
These are a great foot-in-the-door project for anybody who is looking to begin selling their woodworking projects, or simply taking their woodworking hobby to the next level. Before these planter boxes, I only made furniture and built things for myself, and family (where I only charged them for the materials). These boxes not only helped me to make my first dollar by woodworking, but when posting this video, I have made $1208 profit; and yes, thats factoring in my total materials cost, from buyers in a small town of 3000 people.
Two tips not mentioned in the video:
1) do not take large orders or custom orders without obtaining a deposit. Luckily I had only one person order a taller 25x16x16 box and stop responding to me, his name is Ron Whitaker... Unfortunately I did not take deposits or payment in advance, but these are also not expensive to build.
2) you can use treated boards, cedar is less than a dollar more and better for the plants, unless you use a liner and are going to paint the exterior.
Thanks again for watching, and please please please like this video so it can be suggested to other cool cats like yourselves. Bye for now!! - แนวปฏิบัติและการใช้ชีวิต

Great Video! I came from Tik Tok!
Wellll, a warm welcome to my little TH-cam world! :)
Same here!
Same 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
Same
Same!
Maybe do a video on making a plywood push stick. You're fingers are pretty close to the blade pushing the thin strips through.
👍
I thought the same. Yikes. :(
My experience has been that if you are pushing a narrow piece through the blade you are actually putting pressure against the fence. If you finger slips it will move towards the fence, not the blade. I do use a push stick for short pieces that are not long enough to reach the riving knife before the cut is complete. Still have all my fingers after 30 years of woodworking and carpentry.
Oh my gosh 😳. My knees are still shaking after watching it.
seriously
Anyone else notice how these fence boards used to be 5/8" thick, now you're lucky if they're 1/2" thick :)
#preach . Once in a while Ill get a thick boy picket in my stack
Great work! But, please use a push stick at the table saw. No matter how careful you are, you have to promote safe work practices to others.
Push sticks are in the upcoming video :) thanks buddy!!
This is incredible! Please put more out there like this! You have a knack for presenting. You got yourself a subscriber
Woohooo! Glad you like it :) definitely more to come!!
Big props for tracking even the number of nails used. I'm so tired of "$6 planter boxes OMG!!" but then they use $10 in pocket screws alone, and also you have to buy the plans.
🤣🤣 "$6 project, but, buy the $10 plans on my website first" THATS what I hate the most. Glad it frustrates others as well. Lol thanks for the comment buddy :)
Well you don't have to buy the plans... I did some with pocket screws and it was $2.94 for the screws minus the $.40 cents for nails and it's only $2.50 a build and some designs are just stronger with pocket screws ya it adds a little more time and of course time is money but to each is their own
TikTok brought me hear and this was a great build even if I didn't use glue or nails
Whoa whoa whoa, no glue or nails?! Screws? Black magic??!
Not sure if a comment helps but I thought I'd throw a thumbs up your way
It definitely can't hurt! Thanks buddy!!! :)
I just made this and the scraps made perfect little “handles” so it doesn’t have to be lifted by the mitered top lip. Works great and looks great. Thanks dude.
Nice! Thanks buddy
Great video son. Reassuring me our faith in our youth. One critique, use a push stick on the table saw. I have many friends that can only count to nine.
Thanks! Push sticks are in the next video :)
I really like your stuff. Why? Because you are just a regular guy. Your instructions are easy to follow, the audio is great, and video is clear and you don't jump around. I'm tired of watching "EASY" projects where you need special jigs, an edge planer or a surface planer or some other piece of equipment. I'm a table saw cheap band saw, drill, and saber saw kind of guy. Thank God you are out there. Makes me feel like an old guy like me can actually accomplish something and sell it for 30$ without having to have $10,000 worth of wood working tools. By the way, my local Home Depot had pine pickets for $2.18. So I'm off and running. I'll probably have to put some sort of finish on them so they don't weather too much. The expensive part was buying 7 Million 18GA 1 inch brad nails in a tiny box for about 25$. That'll last a while. Now to dig out my nailer. Thanks again for the plans.
Thanks for the compliment :) $2.18 a picket??! Id drive cross-country for those prices! The closest Home Depot is an hour and a half drive for me. :/ Glad to have you as a part of the channel! :)
Great looking planters. Please get yourself a push stick for that table saw. Your fingers will thank you.
Ive had my eye on one that has a handle and a longer front. I feel more comfortable with the tablesaw wind under my fingernails than I do when using the stock push sticks with the little lip cutouts. :P
Love the plans, love your little dad jokes! But please, use a push stick with the table saw!
I got a push stick ;) thanks buddy
Mental block on actual hearing of necessary advice. ZINGGGGG**#@!! !.!__ ,_(then it's too late...) Here we have a smart person with a glaring blind spot. Engineering has a saying, "you can make something foolproof. But you cannot make it damned foolproof".
Awesome video, I like your cross/ribbon template!
Thanks :) I got it from Crafted Elements. My woodworking router video features a few of their templates
Cool, thanks for making the video!
Thanks buddy
Criminally undersubscribed. Unbelievably well made video.
Thanks buddy!! Glad you liked it :)
I use scraps like the dog ears to stable a small shelf to the bottom of the box, then the floor sits on those. This avoids nailing into the endgrain anywhere and the floor nails are all on the inside.
Great use of scrap! :)
Nice project. Can't wait to check out your other videos.
Thanks Matt :)
Came from TikTok… just wanted to see the process. I have none of these tools and never worked with wood. However, the directions are simple and clear if I had the tools.
So the $10 would be more like several hundred dollars in my case. 😂
Thanks for sharing!
If you are interested in woodworking, start out with some hand tools and work your way up. One tool at a time :) you'll get there!! :D
Killer work man!!!! Tik tok led me here. Me and wife are homesteaders and I love how simple cheap but yet nice these are. I’ll be making a few
Thanks for the comment! I made some for the wife as well and they have held up and not lost their color (they are unfinished like in the video)
:)
@@WhosTheVoss thanks for sharing and allowing us to help others while making some $. how long do they last without being sealed/stained? if you wanted to paint or seal or stain, what would you suggest?
The glue application to the top of the box was so satisfying to watch. Great video man!
Thanks 🤣🤣 glad you enjoyed it!!
Awesome, thank you!!!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the content :)
Super cool, thank yout brother!
Thanks buddy!
Love the video. You should use the scraps. Cut 4 small glue blocks for the bottom. Put them in the corner of the legs on the underside with a little glue. Strengthening everything up including the bottom
Oooo! Ill have to give it a try! Thanks!
That's exactly what I was thinking too
You’ll be at more than 80 nails now!
Great plan and super easy to follow video. The wife wanted 2. I have made about 10 more just because it was a fun project. Hope to see more from you!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed :)
Dude!!! You’re amazing!!! Thank you..
Anytime buddy :)
Thank God my TikTok algorithm knows I need this in my life. Subscribed and liked. So cool.
Thankss!! The plans are now in the description
Thank you for the video and I really like your presentation style. Clear, concise and without all the unnecessary fluff. Thanks also for the free plans. I don't have cedar fence pickets in my area (South Florida). So, I'll have to make mine with pressure treated fence pickets or pallet wood. Keep the how-to videos coming.
Thanks!! Treated works as well :) glad you enjoyed the video! :D
I loooooove the authenticity in the video in yourself , this video is worth so much more views and likes based on how you do this as a friend and not to just market yourself.
RICHARD! Thanks buddy!! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Dude, you have one of the best channels on YT, many thanks. Disney outbursts aside. 😁😁
🤣 thanks for the confidence boost buddy :)
Great video! Thanks!
Thanks Lawrence! Glad you enjoyed the build! :)
Tiktok algorithm seems to work way better than youtube, since it brought me here. Good luck with the channel.
My FikTok post has blown up for some reason 😅 but im glad! Welcome to my TH-cam world!!
Awesome video man. Love the tips along the way. Definitely making these with my teenage son. Hopefully it becomes a nice side gig for him, if anything itll be a good bonding project.
Awesome! So glad to hear it :) you guys have fun!!
Saw you on tiktok. Built my first one just last night. I messed up a little but it works and I’m excited to put my plant in it. Thank you very much!!!! Also love your energy
Thanks! First projects are like the first pancake or the oldest child; a few notches above throw away. Lol, jk. I betit looks great!
@@WhosTheVoss hahahahhaa yea it’s my trophy one. Putting in front of the house and adding my oregano plant to it!!!
Saw your tik tok and rushed to watch this. Great job
Heck yeah! Glad you liked it! Its a fun project :)
Thank you for sharing! You’re a true gem ❤️
Awww! Glad you liked it!! :D
I made one of these yesterday. It worked out great. When I put it on the driveway to show my wife, my neighbor yelled from across the street "Are you taking orders?". So that is encouraging, should I decide to sell them. Also, I added 3/4"x1" cleats to the inside of one of the sides to support the bottom panels which fit loosely. Thanks again for the video.
I like the cleat idea! I got good practice when I started making them because the wife kept my first 4 boxes :P Glad yours turned out lookin good!!
My anxiety was going through the roof seeing you use your fingers to push the boards all the way through the tablesaw. My shop teacher always taught us to use a scrap piece of wood, and it’s stuck with me all through my adult life.
The video Im recording currently, includes push sticks ;) no need to lose any sleep! :) Thanks for the concern buddy
I had to come a long way into the comments to find someone who shared my anxiety! Kept looking at the pusher on the other side of the fence and remembering how thankful I was to have used a pusher every time I had a kickback on "clear" wood. Nice project and well made video otherwise!
Thanks! Great detailed video.
Thanks buddy! Ive got a few other popular planter builds in a playlist for you as well :)
I'll check them out. I made my first planter with your video today. Turned out great. @@WhosTheVoss
I saw something online that also uses picket boards. How can I send you a photo for maybe something you could make a video for in the future?@@WhosTheVoss
Thanks!
Thanks Pat! Theres a new planter box video dropping at 8:30 :) selling like hot cakes here
As an update I finally made my first planter box!! I made a small mistake and ended up putting the bottom on the top and had to pull out the brad nails. 😅I got a bit rushed, but I hid the damage on the outside from me having to drill some shallow holes to remove the brad nails by adding trim on the outside facings.
It still looks beautiful regardless! I'm getting lots of friends asking for one now lmao. Thanks for the awesome video I could follow and the cutting plan included!
Ohh noo!!! But you could cover up the mistake soo not a loss whatsoever :) great job! Thanks for watching!
Love the video. I’m in the process of replacing my fence, which was blown down Wednesday night with some powerful thunderstorms here in Houston. I think I’m going to use the pickets and make some of these boxes!
Sorry to hear about the fence, but also, turn thess boxes into a little side hustle and it'll pay for the new fence ;)
Love the video! Keep em coming!
Thanks! :) Next is a vacuum hose clip I shot today, then a 7' garden shed in the next week or two. I have 15 hours of footage to cut down to less than hours worth :P
This is so great, thanks for sharing!
Thanks buddy!
A word of caution - watching at around 3.10, you use your right hand to push the board through. Do NOT do this! Get into the habit of using a push stick. If you don't then you can almost guarantee that one day the blade and your hand will meet. When that happens, it does not end well for your hand. I speak from experience !
My newest video has mack one of my favoritd push stick, I want to make it cooler, but, its a start! :) Thanks buddy
You are so right! I almost peed my pants and it wasn't even my hand. A push stick and NO long sleeve shirt.
Where do you sell these and do you have any tips? I’m on summer break and need something to do as this looks cool and why not make some money while on break! Thanks!
I only listed them on Marketplace, but it was late spring/early summer. Theres still plenty of people just starting their gardens though. I made a trio set that sold very well, so did these planters in the video :) good luck!!
Nice planters!!
Thanks!! :D
I truly njoyed your video thank you so much👍🏽.
Thanks buddy! :)
Great video, great idea! Please make (and then use it) a push stick though, table saws are very unforgiving.
Push sticks are in the next video :)
Made one today, thanks!
Saaaweeet!

Thanks buddy!

Thanks buddy!
Love your work God Bless you in all you do ❤

Thanks Randy!!
Great vid, these are legit. I was lookin around for a good plan where I can crank out a bunch to sell. I believe I’ve found it! But as many have said… Please bro- push stick. Them fingers are valuable 👍
