Thank you for this video. My birthday was a few days ago and my brother gave me a 'present' he wrapped up the OG xbox he borrowed a few years ago. Stumbled upon this and was just in time removing the clock cap :D you are a lifesaver. The 3300uF 6.3 ones were close to bursting too so a lot of headache was prevented. Much love!
My understanding on White vinegar vs isoporpyl, when used to clean any capacitor residue, is that both will clean but only the vinegar will neutralize the acidity. I am not 100% sure, that is just my understanding thus far. Great video!!! I’m looking fwd to watching the full series.
I see you on every one of his video you must have some knowledge was hoping you can help me on xbmc origins I can’t get emulator shortcuts set up and I see tons of videos of people with custom icons on the dashboard and then they have a custom guide too. Any idea how they do it?
Hey Tech. I have a question that I’m not getting answered on Reddit & hoping you can help. I have 3 xboxes I’m repairing (trying to anyway) two 1.0’s and a 1.6a. The 1.0’s have little black squares of tape on the bottom of the board -that I believe is called isolation (or insulation) tape. Each 1.0 board has these squares in slightly different spots & most of its stickyness is gone so they are coming off. The 1.6a board does not have these so.. 1). Does the 1.6a board need these? 2). Since the 1.0’s have them in different spots can you tell me where they are best placed? 3). Can I buy more of these -or something comparable- to replace the ones on my 1.0 boards? Cheers

I never have, I have heard of a special type of capacitor that looks like a battery was available but time on the xbox isn't that important anymore and only needs to be set when power is disconnected. You can also set a modded dashboard to sync with a ntp server.
I've never done it and know nothing about it, I would recommend going to reddit and joining the Original Xbox forum. You'll be able to get lots of help there if you aren't already joined.

so do you ever put a new cap back in? or is it just ok to remove it and leave it missing?
The cap is not needed. Its only needed to hold time if you unplug your console, but time doesn't really matter anymore on the xbox.
@@techhoarder3010 this is only true for models pre 1.6. If the Xbox is 1.6, then the clock cap is required, as the Xbox will not boot without it.

Unless you got a 1.6 xbox version then you are ok
