  • Watch me try to restore this ultra rusty, former autocross hack! In (mostly) glorious stop-motion animation. [DISLIKE COUNT: 9]
    It's not the most sensible thing to do, but I always do weld up a rusty car and when I saw this absolute s*box dissolving in my friend's garden, I wanted to give it a go. I hope you'll be as much entertained as I suffered through this :)
    I don't plan to make this my job, but in case you really like my work and wanna send a dollar my way to help pay for mig wire and cutting wheels, I will be very grateful!

    What would you estimate the now finished value at?
    What kind of welding is that? I mean the technique mig tig/ STICK?
    How much would you estimate all the welding on the car cost?
    How much did it took you?
    Also is the grey t hing you are using putty? Like bondo?
    now after all this and a google search, DAMN IS SHE NOT GOOD LOOKING
    I WANT ONE TOO

      Hey, good questions!
      With value it's a bit tricky because I live in remote country. Really nice and clean CRX recently sold for 10k USD here. But I don't think anyone would buy this one even if I wanted to sell. Maybe 3k USD if I was lucky and they don't see this video.
      Overall I'm projecting the build cost to be around ~4k USD for everything except my time. And I'll probably spend aroudn 1.5 years working on it semi-fulltime. As I said, not sensible.
      Welding process is FCAW, basically hybrid of MIG and stick. I use it because I work outside in the wind, so can't use shielding gas. Normally MIG would be preferred.
      Grey stuff is a zinc weld-through primner, basically heat resistant paint with powder zinc in it. It's good for using between welded parts to prevent further rust. Regular paint can be also used, but it burns off easily.
      If you live on the mainland, the CRX are still pretty common, I belive you can get a pretty good ones for couple of grand still!

      @@cosmin552 If you end up getting one, they all rust under the bonnet hinges, under the trim on the hatch and under door hinges. Drop some oil on the problem spots to stop it rusting, every 6 months. Actually if you're not garaging it, it's worth stripping the car a little bit and spraying an oily rust inhibitor in all cavities (CRC Marine heavy Duty, Fluid Film). That will give it a pretty good fighting chance. Or garage it and only drive when sunny :)

      @sidney9534  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aww thank you! Yes, it's from a Prelude, good eye. I didn't put that it, leegedly they only fit if you swap the rails. The seat is better than CRX, but it looks like grandma's old recliner. So I won't probably keep it.
      Thinking of seats from a different car, but main problem is they have to be super low to the floor. 99% of modern seats are too high.
      Second gen CRX seats fit with rails replaced, but are so rare here it's no point even looking.

    Cool video, quite the undertaking. I would have considered that a parts car at best but with enough patience and skill maybe it will turn out to be a nice project!
    Not sure about your choice of galvanized steel for the patches. It makes toxic fumes when welded and might be hard to paint. I'm no expert though, good luck!

    • @sidney9534
      @sidney9534  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh it totally is a 100% bad idea. I mainly started it only because I wanted to do rust repair. It didn't seem THAT bad initially, but when I got to the bad parts I was too far invested to quit.
      Galvanized - yes, it's a questionable choice. I mainly did it out of convenience, because local scrapyard had a lot of cheap suitable sheets. And yes, it is hazardous to weld. It's pretty windy out there and I wore a mask, so never had a fume fever. But definitely not the smartest choice.
      One advantage is I only had to worry about treating the welds inside - rest will never rust.

    I have a genuine full rear quarter panel for Mk1 CRX, never going to have time to restore mine though. Awesome 😎 work your doing, great video skills too
