      Kiko, Thank You for being a part of Megadeth. My sons(especially my young guitarist in the family) and I all feel you fit so amazingly well in the band. That's no disrespect to any of the previous guys. They all could play. But the interplay between you and Dave(similar to the Marty days) felt, for lack of a better term, beautiful. Especially seeing you guys live here in Boston. You guys were absolutely amazing.
      I'd love for this to be Megadeth's lineup for the rest of the band's existence.

    Shred was totally fanboying here. Lol. In all fairness, I was when I first heard it.
    I love Megadeth. One of my personal favorite bands. This album was very strong. Best album since Endgame. My favorite songs were Dogs of Chernobyl (might be my favorite song on it), We'll Be Back, and Night Stalkers. I did feel that toward the middle, it faltered a little bit, but the back end of this record is strong. It's in the mix for album of the year for me.
    4.5/5 for me, at least.

      Necrotic Nick- There was no containing the joy that was inside him. There was definitely a profound gushing from him on this review lol. I've been a Megadeth fan since I was about 15 and this was honestly their best since Endgame in my opinion. I'd even throw Celebutante on that list with all the nasty Bay Area thrash vibe that's all over it. There are some weaker tracks but over all this is a banger.

    This album floored me. Just finished listening to it on my way home from work.
    I get what Jon means about the production opening out after a heavily-compressed start. It's like being buried up to your neck and getting beaten with the spade, then being walked outside and told to run from the firing squad.
    Agreed Kiko is a strong side guy. Devestating technique. He's up there with Chris Poland and Marty, for sure.

This was like the ultimate early birthday present for me, the riffs make me make the bacon making noises and faces. Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! I had a hunch with the singles that this would be solid. There's an intensity to this one that I hadn't heard since Endgame honestly. This is absolutely the strongest thing Megadeth has done for a very very long time. I actually was surprised how much I was enjoying this. It does have a couple of dips in quality (I'm not the biggest fan of Junkie or Mission to Mars), but overall this whoops ass. I definitely think allowing more input from Kiko and Dirk on the songwriting has really opened Mustaine up to being able to create some of the best material they've done potentially for decades. I absolutely fucking adore the production aswell tbh. I didn't think Mustaine had it in him to create something so good anymore but I am so glad to be wrong! 🤘🤘🤘🤘

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  ปีที่แล้ว

      Necrotic Nick- I knew when I heard the singles that this was not just another run of the mill Megadeth outing. This one is aggressive as hell and just feels tighter and more focused overall. There are some filler tracks but they don't hamper the album very much and I like the fact that Dirk and Kiko were actively writing on this one and they contributed to some killer songs. There's a part of me that hopes that "We'll Be Back" being the last track on here is Dave saying "just wait, there's more". lol

    Great review guys! I just listened to the new Megadeth album twice. It definitely rips! Dave brought riffs for days, Kiko is shredding leads, & Dirk and Steve are locked in. My favorite tracks are: the Title Track, Night Stalkers, We'll Be Back, Soldier On, & Killing Time. Maybe this album could've been 10 tracks, cutting Mission to Mars and Psychopathy. 4 out of 5 for me. Also hearing Sammy Hagar and Dave sing together on the bonus track was so cool!!. The Dead Kennedys cover was well done, but slightly sterile. In my opinion this album is instantly better than: The World Needs a Hero, Risk, 13, & Super Collider. Right now, for me, it's on par with: Endgame, United Abominations, and Dystopia. And thank you for not making me feel bad for not wanting to see them open for Five Finger Death Punch.

    Great review guys. For a while I've felt Dystopia and Endgame were the best megarecords since Youthanasia. I think this tops both of those. To have a record this good, this deep in the catalogue is pretty sick.
    And if that video of Hammett making a funny face at this stuff isnt a fake..... i love both bands, but mr "wah, I lost my cell phone" needs to stfu.

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! I really enjoyed both of those but I think this one at least out does Dystopia in terms of the raw aggression and Dirk's drum work lends itself to the faster thrashy pace of the album overall. I didn't know about any video that Kirk made but he shouldn't be talking any shit considering his band's recent output vs Megadeth's lol.

    • @docvader82
      @docvader82 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thrallsofmetal Well that and.... Hammet didn't even contribute anything to the last record.
      Sorry, I simply cannot buy this bullshit of losing his phone.
      -In this day and age, there''s a bunch of ways to store and backup any files on his phone.
      -these guys have a whole team of full-time employees. IF Kirk isn't bright enough to know HOW to backup and/or save the stuff properly, someone on their staff has to.
      -It's his godamm profession. other than maintaining the ability to play live, there's nothing more important than his song and riff ideas. IF he truly lost it, there's simply no excuse for that.
      You ever see Hetfield's face when that came up in an interview?
      So he brought no writing to Hardwired, and his solos were all improvised(and mostly WAH dependent). His solos were better when he didn't use the wah as much, and when he, 'did his homework'. Worked it out, tried ideas, like the whole bit in Year and a Half with the Unforgiven solo.
      Dude is LAZY.

    This album I thought was very good. To me it's definitely Megadeth's best since Endgame. The band feels rejuvenated with the addition of Dirk Verbrueren and of course Kiko Loureiro giving it his all on guitar. There are a few dull tracks but for the most part the band is firing on all cylinders here.

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Necrotic Nick- That's pretty much my view on this. It's reinvigorated and I would say it's at least on par with Endgame and allowing Kiko and Dirk to contribute to the writing process I think gives this album a bit more diversity in the riffs. There are some weaker tracks but the strong ones make up for them for me.

    After a while to sink my teeth into this one, if you create a Spotify Playlist and replace dogs of chernobyl with police truck--then mission to Mars with the world is on fire, this would be a legit 4.5* album. But those 2 ruin the flow. The flow of the album much better and less lengthy. Also, it makes the breaks in songs like Celebutante and killing time far better because they're fewer on the album with those 2 songs removed. I absolutely love the Bsides. And shreds comments on kikos playing is spot on. He uses modality so well. Flipping back and forth between minor and major. Gives him the melodic sound. Well stated Shred.

    Megadeth has somehow stayed relevant throughout the years, and has been more respected than Metallica. Extreme Metal fans welcome Megadeth, but not Metallica. What has baffled me is how does Metallica remain so popular even though hardly anyone has admitted to liking anything that the band recorded since the Black album. I am surprised that somewhere along the way Megadeth hasn't been bigger than Metallica.

      Necrotic Nick- I don't think Metallica creatively pushes themselves much anymore and they spent so much time in the 90's going more mainstream that it took them a long time to get back to being a thrash band again. They're more of a brand than a band at this point. McDonald's food isn't very good but still everyone goes there. Kinda comparable here as they're just so recognized they became more of an institution in music in general. Megadeth, aside from some misteps, remained closer to what they started as and that may have cost them even more fame but it kept them more respected by their diehard fans. That's at least my take on it.

    Thanks for a great review. I personally think it's a great album but underimpressive. Basically, I've heard it all before on earlier Megadeth albums and back then it was new and fresh, this is just recycling of old ideas. Also I think the album is far too long when it comes to number of songs and time length in total. It could have been shorter, let's say three songs less, and that would've helped it being better. For me, it gets 3/5 because it's solid, energetic and "fun".

    Out of all the big four American thrash bands, I've always found Megadeth to be the most technical but also the least catchy which is probably why I've had a hard time really getting into their music. Although I will say that Killing Is My Business and Rust In Peace are absolute bangers. Despite me not really enjoying their later material, I will check this one out being that the singles I heard seem to go back to their earlier thrash roots.
