59:40 i have heard Dave talk about this magic thing before, and it is always with such deep regret and remains very guarded about it. He fully believes in black magic because of something that happened, and i think he believes he is responsible for Cliff's death. Kirk took his job, and some of the footage of Metallica just after Dave was fired shows how ruthless the rest of the band were when talking about Dave. Living it up while he was in despair. And its no secret that Dave hated Kirk for replacing him. And if you remember, Kirk and Cliff drew straws for the better bunk. Cliff ended up where Kirk was meant to sleep, which was ultimately a death sentence. I don't believe in black magic myself, if it worked everyone would be at it! But Dave was quite into it apparently, and ive always wondered if he tried to put some kind of hex on Kirk. Then, when the story came out about Cliff's death, how it happened and how Kirk narrowly missed the same fate, Dave REALLY believed it was too much of a coincidence and blamed himself ever since. I hope not because that would be a terrible guilt to mistakenly carry.
That's what a lot of ppl do, than his haters say he's always crying about Metallica. There was a while where Metallica never came up in conversation and interviews, but for the past 20 years, ppl can't wait to bring it up. They bring it up, not Dave. I don't ever recall a time where nobody asked about Metallica, and Dave was just like "......so let's talk about Metallica, you know I was in that band right?" I'm 99% sure that's the absolute truth
What is trying to do is relate, Mustaine, to everybody else because nobody really knows who Dave mustaine is until they relate him to metallica, who more people know about. He is just trying to integrate him into his audience. People who don't know him, aren't sick of the Metallica-Mustaine correlation like we are
He asked him what it was like looking back on his crazy career. Before he mentioned Metallica, he mentioned Megadeth. And when you're recapping someone's storied career, being a former member of Metallica is def a noteworthy mention.
I feel blessed I got to see megadeth a couple years ago on tour with lamb of god. Dave is such a cool guy and is soooo underrated. Badass that Joe had him on the show 🤘🤘
My first concert was Megadeth. I think I was 14 years old. It was in Offenbach am Main in Germany. I love Dave Mustaine. You have to love him. YOU MUST, AINE'T YOU?
Wow! Around 43:30 I noticed Joe's hoodie has "Kill Cliff" right after Dave saw the old picture of Metallica and mentioned how seeing it brings him a bit of sadness because of what happened to Cliff. I wonder if Dave noticed what was on Joe's hoodie.
This Was Amazing. Dave is a Hero of Mine. I'm a Drummer and Dave's respect for Gar Samuelson as I've heard Really Makes Him a Kind Soul. I Saw them in Pittsburgh PA at a club called City Limits where a friend and I won tickets on a radio show - Circa late 1980's where we were roadies for the day and I got to meet Gar and He was Really Nice and He Kicked ASS. I Love all the MD Drummers but He had something in His background called Swing. This is probably why Mustaine and Ellefson Loved Him BC Swing Drummers Make Everything Better. We partied and had a Great Time. Thank You Mr. Mustaine and Band at the Time. I Loved Nick Menza and Chuck as well. Dave Always get's the Best. And He IS The Best. Dave Is Real.
Nothing wrong with being self-taught on the guitar. I'm self taught going on 37 years. Got a chord book and played my albums over and over until I understood.
I went to a Megadeth concert at the Agora Amphitheatre in Cleveland when I was 21 with my cousin and girlfriend. The Misfits opened up for them. It was the Cryptic Writings tour. I remember Dave Mustane saying hail to the devil and got booed by the audience.
That's odd, because Dave got saved about 5 years before that. We are about the same age and I've been a Megadeth fan for most of it. After the release of "Peace Sells.... But Who's Buying" he even stopped playing " The Conjuring" live.
Omg all I want to be brother Joe Rogan so one day I can grow up and interview my ultimate legend hero. Dave mustaine!!!! Changed my life bro. I'm addicted. Love you pimpin!!! Keep kickin ass... Wow!!! Inspired!!!

Dave's the man. A truly talented musician who's been there done that. Rust in Peace is one of the best metal albums ever and one of my personal faves. Good to see he's still ticking.
Dave was one of the pivotal influences that got me to learn to play guitar. In fact, Megadeth was the first true “metal” band I bought an album for (Metallica followed directly after). Sure, I had ZZ Top, AC/DC, Black Sabbath and the like, but the first true head-banging, riff thrashing music I owned was Megadeth. Ironically, some songs aside, I still have trouble keeping up with Dave’s inhuman fingers, but Metallica is easier for me. But, I love them both, so I play what I can and savor it. I mostly play alternative (predominantly AiC) and “nu-metal” bands (Korn, Godsmack, Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin, etc.) with an eclectic mix of other stuff like Skillet, SOAD, and Clutch, for instance. But Dave and James were two men whom put the HUNGER to play into my fingers and heart. Honorable mention to Mark Tremonti whom my fingers LONG to be, but never can.
Dave is Amazing. I've liked him since he started. He's been through so much n he's gotten better in music n life each year. Congratulations n Thanks. Us Metal Heads are Thankful.
Dave has matured so much and is so much more eloquent than the 80’s when I first remember listening to him. I am glad he has developed a relationship with Christ and would love to hear his perspective. He mentioned Alice Cooper. Please Dave do it!. That’s not pushing. It is telling your story. On another note, I saw Dave on thr Experience tour and I actually commented on his social media that he had the most authentic Hendrix tone which the Dweezil Zappa and Eric Johnson tubing session tripped me out to hear about. Dave was definitely a fish out of water on that tour but I thought his tone was perfect and he did thr most authentic covers. so major respect. The other guitarists were putting their own spin on the music. Which is fine but that is ther genre. Dave did a perfect cover.
Aside from insane raw talent, Dave is truly smart and wise. A metal god of the likes of all the Greats we all love and know. Always anticipating the next epic Megadeath release!
And black magic spells hexs curses and the reason he was saved would blow your mind it has to do with death that's all I will say love long and prosper DM
He got scammed by Metallica. Kicked him out simply for doing what they all did but better than them. Was the most ambitious and they didn’t want him as front man which he naturally was. Stole his music, just the fact he alone started megadeth and got them huge shows how much talent he has.
They kicked him out for being a violent drunk. He would physically assault them and other people all the time, cuz he couldn't control his temper when drinking. This is well documented.
@@Lord_Raptor I just heard Daves side of it all and it seems like he got short sticked. Regardless they made MOP after that which was amazing and Dave made an awesome band himself so it all worked out well.
Kerry doesn’t get enough credit for how good a rhythm player he is. Whether it’s Angel of Death, Postmortem, and Raining Blood by Slayer, or Chosen Ones and Rattlehead by Megadeth, he nails them. Anyone who can play a hard ass song like Chosen Ones is an awesome guitarist.
Look at him now, 20 in Metallica, 60 in Megadeth and Megadeth now is producing better metal than Metallica by far. He still does it for the love of the music not the love of the money like Metallica now. DON'T get me wrong I still love Metallica, but Megadeth I listen to daily, Metallica I don't.
In no way is Megadeth better, theres a reason why one is waaay more popular than the other. Dont get me wrong, i love megadeth, but you cant compare them.

I count Dave Mustaine from Megadeth as one the most influential persons in my life, politically, musically and storytelling wise. I remember asking my dad what 'bereft' meant in 1990 when he and mum came to visit me while I was working and living in Auckland. I was 17yrs old and had left school 2yrs earlier and moved 185kms from home. Dad gave me a funny look, then said, "It means 'loss'. Losing something." I had asked him because it was in the lyrics of their album which had just come out, Rust In Peace. The song was 'Take No Prisoners'. And its the last line from the second verse... "Going to war, give 'em hell D-Day, next stop Normandy Beginning of the end We know how to and sure as shit we'll win "War is peace," sure man A retreat for the damned A playground for the demented A haven for those who walk this world Bereft of heart and soul" This really made me look into what the words in the lyrics meant and not just take them for granted. Now as a writer/comic book creator telling stories and words mean a lot. So, I am grateful to remember that moment 34yrs back. And also glad my dads still around too.
Playing a record was like a ritual, especially when the record was new at home. I live in Uruguay, so it was very hard to find the vinyls you wanted. And them were SO expensive you could only buy one per month, if you were lucky. Many times my group of friends (all were guys, let me tell you) got together just to show the albums that we bought during that particular week. Then I was the one in charge of copying all the records into cassettes so all of us could have the same music. I remember those times with a bit of nostalgia. The first listen I took to Megadeth was Peace Sells Album that my boyfriend bought, European version. Not long after, I managed to find the first album, also in an European print with that toy skull. I didn't mind the skull, the record was so amazing it did not matter. Mind you, I had always missed the inner book with the lyrics. It was not easy for a girl like me, whowas studying 7th grade in English hanging with guys who can't understand a single word. Honestly, I didn't understand much by those times. Now, 40 years later, and after living in London and having chats with many people in a lot of chats, I can speak quite fluid, and understand it almost perfectly. I would love to work on something retlated to audio transcript or on translating these kind of poddcasts,. Kudos to Dave and Joe for staying fit and doing exercise. That''s a pending matter for me. I stopped doing exercise long ago.
The great thing about Dave is that he made it twice. And did it on raw talent, drive, and sheer will power.

I remember when both bands were competing for years. Peace Sells, and Puppets, Rust in Peace, and Justice being released around the same time between the bands. Great era. That was the Metal era, and Extreme Metal was evolving as well.
They are very complicated if you are handicapped and deaf. They are kinda easy even for intermediate guitarists
@@nicolausteslaus Stuff from KIMB and Rust in Peace is most definitely not "easy" for intermediate guitarists lol
@@_ProTrax maybe it's hard for you due to low guitar skill dude?
@@nicolausteslaus I can play it and have been playing for 15 years, you are just not being realistic if you are calling a song like Last Rites Loved to Death or Black Friday easy, drop the ego

Just saw Megadeth in concert last week, first time in 30 years and they sounded great!
Ohhh. I remember bying "Killing is my Business..." on vinyl back in the day, when "The Skull Beneath the Skin" hit my speakers.....holy crap. Don't listen to trash much these days, but the four first platters from Megadeth are staples I listen to even up to this day. Mr. Mustaine is a legend. (and only 8 years older than me)
The Killing is My Business album is available for free on youtube, remastered.
It's fucking great. The original was so poorly produced.
Having mustaine on the podcast shows rogans a metal fan. Mustaine is thrash metal royalty, songs like holy wars, the man can write a riff thats for sure
wasnt this episode from last year or two years ago?
Yes. They do their podcasts on Spotify and then they trickle in clips on TH-cam and then depending on the popularity of that podcast anywhere from 6 months to a year they'll put the podcast out on TH-cam
Read the ep number before asking man.... It's just a projectionist question.

Peace sells was the first metal album i ever heard when i was 12 years old. I became hooked on metal and megadeth and now im 43 and still a hard core metalhead. Dave mustain is a hall of famer and a metal god. When I die I'll go out to tout le mond. Thank you so much dave for the greatest metal ever in my book. Love megadeth.
It's interesting hearing about Dave's early life - it sounds like it has had an influence on him ever since.
He has written a very good book on his life from like his teen to early 2000s. Worth reading.
Whose early life doesn’t have an influence on them?

That would be sick. Im also waiting for Glenn Danzig.

I feel like Phil is too obscure for Joe. I was surprised to see Mustaine.
....Dimebag on JRE would have been iconic!
I hate how the first question he asks was about metallica
That's what a lot of ppl do, than his haters say he's always crying about Metallica. There was a while where Metallica never came up in conversation and interviews, but for the past 20 years, ppl can't wait to bring it up. They bring it up, not Dave. I don't ever recall a time where nobody asked about Metallica, and Dave was just like "......so let's talk about Metallica, you know I was in that band right?" I'm 99% sure that's the absolute truth
💯 @@NintenDub
What is trying to do is relate, Mustaine, to everybody else because nobody really knows who Dave mustaine is until they relate him to metallica, who more people know about. He is just trying to integrate him into his audience. People who don't know him, aren't sick of the Metallica-Mustaine correlation like we are
No it wasn't
He asked him what it was like looking back on his crazy career. Before he mentioned Metallica, he mentioned Megadeth. And when you're recapping someone's storied career, being a former member of Metallica is def a noteworthy mention.
Jamie, pull up that video of that bear playing metallica

Wow! Around 43:30 I noticed Joe's hoodie has "Kill Cliff" right after Dave saw the old picture of Metallica and mentioned how seeing it brings him a bit of sadness because of what happened to Cliff. I wonder if Dave noticed what was on Joe's hoodie.
you can tell that they don't know what to start.. from the amount of time Joe interrupts Dave and jumping from one topic to another
This Was Amazing.

Honorable mention to Mark Tremonti whom my fingers LONG to be, but never can.
definitly not 5 days ago but worth watch
Dave is Amazing. I've liked him since he started. He's been through so much n he's gotten better in music n life each year. Congratulations n Thanks. Us Metal Heads are Thankful.
Stars Wars didn’t have
Klingons , that’s Star Trek!! 😅😅😅
how dare Dave Mustaine not be a nerd.
Recently became a fan of dave but already an idol for me his metal flaming heart really never fades out
Dave is such an interesting guy. As a long term metalhead and Megadeth fan, how no idea how deep in to martial arts Dave is. Very knowledgeable.

One of my top 5 Metal idols 🙏
Kerry King from Slayer ( up there too ), was in Megadeth for like 4 shows, at the start 😬👍🏻
@@ESPLTD322Jeff was the man for me, I could never stand Kerry King but I’ll admit he was a good rhythm player but his solos are notoriously bad.
It's only better in your eyes. Art is subjective.

Losing something."
I had asked him because it was in the lyrics of their album which had just come out, Rust In Peace. The song was 'Take No Prisoners'.
And its the last line from the second verse...
"Going to war, give 'em hell
D-Day, next stop Normandy
Beginning of the end
We know how to and sure as shit we'll win
"War is peace," sure man
A retreat for the damned
A playground for the demented
A haven for those who walk this world
Bereft of heart and soul"
This really made me look into what the words in the lyrics meant and not just take them for granted.
Now as a writer/comic book creator telling stories and words mean a lot. So, I am grateful to remember that moment 34yrs back. And also glad my dads still around too.
You didn't make metal, metal made you!
Well Dave MADE METAL!
Maybe next time, Joe will let Dave talk?
