Firepower?? really?? that shit was way too standard generic Heavy Metal.. A paint by the numbers .. er.. number.... But this new album has at least 2 great songs that deserve attention.. finally..
Necrotic Nick- I think he was the shot in the arm they needed honestly. I love KK for all he's done but I'm not going to hate on Richie for being the badass he is.
Necrotic Nick- Bare minimum it's in my Top 10 for Judas Priest... it's just where in the Top 10 it lands is what still needs to be determined lol. Yeah, I'm still blow away at how amazing this band is at this point in their career.
Amazing record! No weak songs. The only song I thought was a little strange was the bonus song The Lodger. Not a bad song. Just a weird tune. But everything else is damn near perfect. So heavy and relentless, but it has song great hills and valleys. So much double bass. Scott Travis really brought it. Rob sounds fantastic. Thank you Ritchie for helping keep this band going. Just blown away! 10 out of 10. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Necrotic Nick- Agreed. I did think Escape from Reality and Sons of Thunder were a bit on the generic side but not bad. I may still get the special edition with the bonus tracks but as is with the regular version I have it's a banger either way. This is just a fantastic album and just blows me away that this band is still killing it after all these years. Fuckin' legends.
After a while of constant listening I've come to the conclusion that this is my 4th favorite album behind Painkiller, SFV, and Stained Class. This album is a touch long, or it'd be every bit as good as anything they've ever done. With this band it's always about "The Cheese Meter" to me. That setting on this album is as perfect as the previous 3 above. These guys are the best "power metal" band imo ever. And this album is a better representation of who they are as a band over their entire career, than Firepower. They clearly love what they're doing again and it's nice to see. This album will be AOTY. This is the best legacy band release since AMOLAD, and it may be better than that. These " deviant pecksniffians" did it again.
Wow it is truly mind blowing how they just keep on churning out masterpieces. Some of the early classics are undeniably great, but I’m really liking this last 3 album stretches sound. This is definitely on par with Firepower for me at this point. What a beast
Necrotic Nick- Yeah, dudes are on fire (power) right now lol. Seriously though, I think between this and Firepower this is one of their best 2 album runs since Screaming for Vengeance and Defenders of the Faith.
The arrangements on the new album absolutely blew me away! When Richie teased about the "progressive" direction of the album I imagined long drawn out plodding songs, and how happy I was to be completely wrong! Turns out the progressive elements were all about the intricate arrangements, which make this album really stand out not only as heavy, catchy, riffy and leads laden, but also as musically complex, holding your interest throughout and never letting go. A true masterpiece.
These guys are absolutely worthy of the title "Metal Gods". After 55 years into their career, they released one of their best albums in my opinion, at least since Painkiller. This is how you do heavy metal! This album has absolutely everything I love about Judas Priest. The mighty Firepower was one of my most played heavy metal albums in the last few years and I believe this album surpasses it. I also love the fact that this has SO MUCH music and longer, more complex songs. It's relentless, catchy, fresh and has a lot of thrash/speed metal elements. Wow! Rob Halford is the GOD. He sounds AMAZING on this album. His vocals blew my mind, especially for his age. This man is 72 years old and still screams like he did 30+ years ago! This is the definition of heavy metal, gentlemen. Absolutely fantastic album. I'll give it 4.5/5 as well!
Necrotic Nick- I'm right in the same boat. While it might not topple the classics in terms of list it's up there and might be better than Firepower but only time will tell. There's something about this one that feels even more invigorating and triumphant thought. Everything about this album is huge and I love it. Rob has gotta be some sort of alien with those vocals. I can't believe he's as old as he is and can still belt it out like that. It's mind-boggling. He must be an actually metal god of some kind lol.

I like Firepower much (as my profile pic shows obviously lol) but Invincible Shield is much more complex and Firepower somehow lacks fast songs like Invincible Shield title track, The Serpent and the King or As God is my Witness. Lyrically is IS deeper than childish Necromancer or Flamethrower on Firepower. Imho Invincible Shield surpasses Firepower on so many levels
When they announced this album I immediately listened back to Firepower and thought to myself: There's no way they will come close to this or even top this. I will need some time with this album, but so far I can say: Redeemer and even Firepower had more songs that were filler (In the case of the latter only 2-3) and both were still highly enjoyable. I actually was more impressed with the singles from Firepower than with Invincible Shield, I liked and in one case loved them, but I was anxious because of the very high praise the whole album got. When Redeemer came out I thought this might be their last album, same with Firepower - calling it quits while being on such a high level. I'd never imagined they would still be here 13 years after they went on their "farewell" tour. This album shows they might even be able to crank out another one and at least 3-4 years in them - and if not, they certainly went out with a bang!
Necrotic Nick- By the time they officially announced this and had at least Panic Attack up I was already binging a ton of Judas Priest for the ranking we did so I was primed for this one. As for this going up against Firepower... it's hard to say right now. I've had more time with Firepower but I can say both hit hard and hit often when it comes down to all the stuff I love about Judas Priest. I thought they'd hang it up on either of those as well too but they've show a ton of resilience and there really hasn't been a drop off in quality. In fact, I think the quality has gone up with the last 2 now. I guess we'll see what the future has in store for Judas Priest after this one.
I absolutely love this album. It felt like everything I loved about Firepower, but on steroids. It felt like it was more aggressive and heavier. The more I listen to the album, the more I love it.
Personally I'd say this is on par with Painkiller... maybe that'll change as time goes on, but right now it's up there. Damn glad to hear Priest kicking so strong all this time later, if only some of my other favorites could do the same 💀
To come back after watching this. The thrashy parts blew me away, as a big thrash fan I am thoroughly happy... Priest and Megadeth are going insane and I'm so excited for their next ones
Necrotic Nick- It's up there. It definitely has a Painkiller vibe but also a lot of stuff from Screaming for Vengeance and Defenders of the Faith as well. There's so many of the amazing classic tropes of Priest on here that they just nail with the same intensity as they did years ago.
@@thrallsofmetal 100%, it's new and fresh while still staying true to what makes Preist, Priest. It's new while also somewhat nostalgic, I'm hopeful that if that make another one it's just as good if not better, but if this is it for them? Then what a way to go
Isn't now Judas Priest the first metal band to release albums 50 years apart? Its incredible that they still play music half a century later. Crazy. Rob could be my grandfather and he still sounds phenomenal. New Midnight album also dropped this week!
Necrotic Nick- I feel like I shouldn't surprise me after how bad ass Firepower was but I'm still blow away at how invigorated and vibrant they sound this far into their career. I love it.
It's always so cool when legacy bands put out awesome and inspired music this late in the game. Really excited for the review guys. This channel is seriously the best channel on yt when it comes to reviews imo. I truly truly mean that, the hard work that goes on behind the scene really shows!
Necrotic Nick- Agreed. While I think they could have retired on Firepower this proves they still have the drive and love for the music still. Thanks for all the love, man! We really appreciate that and we've got a ton more in store for you guys.
Priest love their sound like we love our beans! 🤣 Fantastic review of a fantastic album - naff cover aside - and it proves they just keep, err...delivering the goods. The Andy Sneap production does grate if you focus on it too much, but if it ain't broke why fix it? The last ten years speak for themselves, and Priest just keep hitting the beats. As an aside, Thralls will ALWAYS be the ultimate metal channel. I can't start the date without hearing Nick, Jon, Joe, Rin and Miller selling me something heavy! Peace, love and many pints. J
Necrotic Nick- Rob's been one of my heroes for years. He personifies metal to me and he's been through hell and back and become stronger for it. A true Metal God.
Me: "They're releasing another album? Firepower was so good, how can they ever follow it up?" Me after the singles: Okay I guess there was nothing to worry about after all. They did it again. SoaB.
The mighty Priest strike again!!...What absolute Legends, what other band in any genre are still delivering the goods (pun intended)50 years after their inception? Killer album, I can see this ranking high in many a year end list!
Necrotic Nick- Just flat out fucking legends. It's takes a truly special band to be able to pull off what they're doing right now. This album brought me so much joy just hearing these guys this far into their career make another landmark album.
9/10 album. Way better than I expected. I might even call it their best album since 'Defenders of the Faith'! Incredible leads and vocals from Rob! The only thing I'd do is cut three or four tracks from the tracks #9-13 from here because it starts to get kind of samey/not-as-good in the second half. The closer "The Lodger" is incredible though. Very excited for these guys now.
Necrotic Nick- Yeah, this album flat out rips and Rob sounds fantastic on this one. We only had the regular version of this one to go over but it can get kinda long. Overall, it was such an enjoyable listen and packed with killer riffs and just flat out invigorated songs.
@thrallsofmetal I love that you love the album! Have you seen the performance video for the title track that the band released yesterday? It's ripping! So happy to see them playing together, after all those cut-and-paste videos. 🔥
Invincible Shield is the best Judas Priest album since 1984's Defenders Of The Faith it just tops Firepower but not by much...all 11 tracks are classics
Coming out of the bullshit of the past 4 years has seen an incredible run of metal albums in the last year and a half. I know that Nile is going to be dropping a new one on us this year, maybe Gojira and some other bad asses as well. Judas Priest is clearly "legend" at this point and they have earned their stripes! I am going to bang this one tomorrow and see what the guys came up with. I think the pandemic years lit a fire under the asses of many musical artists and metal is of course, no exception. My favorites for JP are: Stained Class, Screaming for Vengeance, Pain Killer, Redeemer of Souls and maybe this one?! You guys are fucking incredible and super funny to boot and it is always fun watching you do these reviews/rankings. Rin's intro reminded me of that hilarious video from (4 years ago) where Shredlord did this crazy singing part about the band Satan and Jon loses his shit, and so do I! \m/ \m/
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! Yeah, I think a lot of bands are getting ready to drop stuff this year and I'm definitely stoked for a new Nile album as well. This one was a bit unexpected until they announced it and started dropping singles. Part of me thought that Firepower was going to be the last one they did but man, this is fucking just as killer. We appreciate all the kind words, man. We've got kind of a goofy dynamic but it's a lot of fun and I never want to lose that fun "fanboy" energy we still have.
I picked up the Target Exclusive CD yesterday with the 3 bonus tracks. I loved Firepower and this new one is a banger even after just a couple listens. Do I think this one is better than Firepower? I don't know yet, but it is close. Firepower is my 6th favorite Halford-fronted JP album, right after Sad Wings Of Destiny, British Steel, Painkiller, Screaming For Vengeance, and Defenders Of The Faith. For me, it even sits in front of '70s classics Hell Bent For Leather, Stained Class and Sin After Sin. Invincible Shield, I think, is going to end up anywhere from being my 6th favorite to my 8th favorite JP when all is said and done. If I decide I like it better than Firepower, it will end up being my new 6th ranked album. Otherwise it could fall in between Firepower and Hell Bent For Leather at #7 or it could end up ranked right after Hell Bent For Leather and be #8. Definitely it will fall in the top half of all Halford-fronted JP albums for me (Note: I don't rank Tim Ripper Owens JP albums when I do my rankings .) No doubt about it though, IMO, Firepower and Invincible Shield are the best back-to-back albums they have put out since Screaming For Vengeance and Defenders Of The Faith.
Necrotic Nick- I only have the standard version but I may just have to snag the extended version of this one at some point. I'm not sure yet if I like it more than Firepower yet but I will say they're both on about equal footing right now. They're both excellent albums but I think this one has some more straight up nostalgic hooks on it. This might be the best 2 album run they've had since Screaming for Vengeance and Defenders of the Faith.
Ive been grinning like the Cheshire cat since i bought this album. Absolutely love it!!! So much hommage to other eras. Like it more than Firepower. I hope it isnt the last album, but if it is, great way to sign off.Great review gents. Judas Prius...Geez. haha
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! I've jammed it multiple times in the car and it's just perfect driving music. I wish it was warmer out so I could roll down the windows and share it with all the people next to me lol. If this is their last one then they'll retire on a huge high note. I'm OK with that but if they've got another album like this in them then I'd love to hear it.
The choruses aren't as strong as the best ones on Firepower to me, but it has more variety and 'oomph' in the rhythm section. It's hard to believe they are still releasing albums at this level. Albums like this make us proud to be metalheads! 🤘
Necrotic Nick- That's a tough call because I found a lot of infectious choruses on this one as well like Trial By Fire and Gates to Hell especially but Firepower has there's too for damn sure. Spectre alone has such a killer chorus on that one. Yeah, I'm still not sure how they're still able to put out this level of quality at their age but they're doing it and crushing it. I've never stopped routing for this band since I was a kid and makes me happy to see them killing and getting all the love and adoration they do right now. Fucking legends!
After my first listen, I have Firepower ahead of it just barely. Judas Priest has no business being this stellar 50 years into their career, and this is just another notch in the belt for these absolute legends.
Necrotic Nick- I don't fully understand how this band is still capable of delivering material of this quality at their age but I'm so fucking cool with it because this album is fantastic. I'm at the point where I think this and Firepower are on equal footing. Either way, if these last 2 are how they close the show then they've only further cemented their Metal God status.
Thank you JP for the awesome music. They should be retired and enjoying relaxation. However, thankfully, they are not. Great music from a band that loves what they do more than $$. Rin, you are a Hoot! Thank you all for what you do at TOM. You folks RULE!
Firepower was a very solid great sounding record and this one "May" be a bit better then the last but even if its not,Invincible Sheild is a rippin good album, great riffs,Robs vocals are still in top form for someone his age,and Andy Sneaps production just lends itself too really help round this album out to be a very Impressive album in 2024.And like you guys pointed out im hearing songs that simply could have been off Painkiller or even Screaming for Vengeance.
Necrotic Nick- It's a tough call but this 2 album run here kinda reminds me of where they were on that run with Screaming for Vengeance and Defenders of the Faith. Just back to back quality releases that showcase their strongest points. The riffs are sick and Rob unquestionably sounds amazing for being in his 70's. He still sounds powerful as hell. If this is their last one then this would cap off their awesome career perfectly.
Necrotic Nick- I love it. I think it's got some really intense moments for sure but it's the melodies that really still with me. Man, Rob sounds fucking fantastic!!
Loved this, guys - insightful & fun. Really enjoying the channel, and promoting it where I can. Saw Priest last night (supported by Saxon & Uriah Heep) in Birmingham, UK. Not far from Metal’s actual birthplace: the Black Country, West Midlands. So much originating from here: Zeppelin, Diamond Head, Sabbath, Priest, Napalm Death. Also met Richie and Andy in a local music shop by chance in Brum (Birmingham) on Saturday and got a pic - super cool guys. One last point, though: stop slating us Brits and our cuisine. Don’t make me jump the pond and come over there - I’ll even bring beans! Could always ask Bruce Dickinson for a lift over - met him in Brum this month, too! Perhaps you should make a visit! Or do a video focusing on the Black Country/Birmingham Metal scene/its history. Keep defending the faith, gents! Metal God Bless Judas Priest!
A huge "thank you" for mentioning The Kinks, even if only for the sake of being funny. Love that band to pieces.🔥🎶 Will be watching Priest live again in June. Very curious about the new album.
@@thrallsofmetal with as many releases we the fans of metal are so lucky to get throughout a calendar year, I legit don't know how you guys cover it all and keep us all updated, but I'm glad you all do! Respect!
Just listened it first time when I was cycling from work to home. This album is full of great guitarworks, high vocals and groove. Lots of elements without feel of suffocating all that stuff. Pretty comparable with goo ol` Painkiller, Defenders etc. Love this album!
I'll give it a listen. I'm 60 and I remember buying Hellbent For Leather in 1979 and I was hooked since. Yes I'm older than electricity and I still love Judas Priest. Firepower surprised the sh*t out of me, and now I'm forced by the Invincible Shield to listen to this (it's listed on the Heavy Metal syllabus) I hope it's as good as you guys say it is. I liked the first 2 that were released form this, but I didn't like the ballad. But 4.5 Pentagrams is a hearty endorsement to buy buy buy. A triumphant return for the Metal Gods once again. Thanks Thralls of Metal.
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! Yeah, Priest is probably the first band I ever associated with the term "heavy metal" as kid because they embodied the look and the sound. I remember watching them on MTV and being mesmerized. When Rob came back it was a bit of a mixed bag to start but when Firepower dropped it instantly brought me back to Painkiller and I think this new one has that plus a bit of that classic Screaming for Vengeance energy as well. I think you'll dig it, man.
The metal gods Judas Priest have returned with another outstanding album. While I don't think it's as good as Firepower since that's a hard album to top, it's still very good and my current favorite album of the year. I don't think any album this year will top it.
Necrotic Nick- I don't know. This one is creeping up on Firepower for me but I've had way more time with Firepower. This is flat out amazing though without a doubt. Well done, Metal Gods.
I think it's a notch better than firepower in my opinion. It's like comparing the chemical wedding to accident of birth. Opinions could change on any given day. They're both that good! 🔥
I'm glad to hear the new album is a banger. My brain has been in full Borknagar/Job For A Cowboy mode for a couple of weeks but I will be jamming this most likely tonight or tomorrow after the new Exhorder. You guys are gonna have quite the busy reviewing weekend. I'm unsure if you'll be able to review it but you should check out the new album from Houwitser. They're a death metal band from the Netherlands and they released their first album in 14 years this week as well. Just brutal fucking grimey nasty groovy angry death metal in the vain of like Dying Fetus and Malevolent Creation...some Sinister as well (I believe there used to be some Sinister members in this band at one point).
Can’t lie, Priest was my first metal band and I haven’t really liked anything aside from a few songs on the latest releases post Angel of Retribution (Firepower was the only other one I found pretty good). This album is fucking insane. By far my favorite Priest record since Angel and probably in their top 5 for me. I felt like I was back in 04 when I heard them for the first time And I know my Firepower take is hot, it’s a great album and in fairness I need to go back and listen to it, but it never grabbed me in past listens
Necrotic Nick- I'll admit that the Rob reunion run has had it's pitfalls but I think Firepower and this one leave all of the other ones they've done since Rob returned in the dust. This just has the power and conviction in full swing again.
Fantastic review guys, awesome stuff. On a funny note, in an alternate reality I truly believe that Rin would be an awesome comedian. Lol! Best regards Gary.
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! Yeah, Rinis hilarious and we really have no idea what he's going to say in these reviews. He had Jon in tears on this one a few times lol.
The Metal Gods have once again gifted us another molten slab of heavy metal!!!!! This album rips from start to finish! I like it just as much if not more than Firepower. This is In my top 10 , maybe top 5 JP albums.
Necrotic Nick- Agreed. I love this album and I'm still in awe that they still "delivering the goods" at the level they are at this point in their careers. It blows my mind and it's just heartwarming to see all the love this album and the band is getting right now.
ok you guys make me want to listen to this since im also not a huge priest fan but they have a couple epic albums painkiller, stained class, defenders. nice review
this new album is amazing start to finish...even the bonus tracks are cool. priest rule...im from same place in midlands with black sabbath from 5 mins up rd... halford still has his childhood house and its the next road to where me mum lives...like 20 secs walk... yet to see him yet but i wil catch him one day ha....peace from mids/bham uk
Between this new Priest album and the new Saxon one, old has been the new young this year for me as far as classic-style heavy metal (although that's not entirely true; the German band Writhen Hilt did release a killer EP not too long ago, Hands of Goro's debut record was really fun and Mega Colossus' and Acerus' new albums both have the potential to grow on me). WHAT AN ALBUM! And nice Stained Class shirt, Rin!
Necrotic Nick- There must be something in the water in the UK this year because these oldheads are coming out swinging this year. I love this trend though. If you know your time is limited then go down swinging with the same energy you came into the world with... if you have it in you. This band still has that energy for sure.
This album kicks ass. I would put this in my top 5 favorite Priest albums of all time, which does seem ridiculous, but that's how I feel right now. I'll have to look at this again after a few months. 1. Screaming for Vengeance 2. Painkiller 3. Defenders of the Faith 4. British Steel 5. Invincible Shield
Great review guys! This album is one of their heaviest from front to back. I was maybe expecting a slight letdown after Firepower but they have totally proven me wrong! I agree on the high scores.
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! Yeah, there's a serious intensity to this one but they still know how to pack in all those sick hooks. This may rival Firepower. I'm not sure yet but it's close.
What's wrong with British food? Nothing - it fed an Empire. Seriously though, for me this album is a 5 - so far it's album of the year, just edging out the latest Ihsahn. Some good shit this year so far - let's hope the year keeps it up!
Necrotic Nick- Well... only everything but it's cool j/k lol. Yeah, I've already did another run through of this one today and man is it a banger. I hope I have this sort of energy when I'm in my 70's lol.
@@thrallsofmetal I just visited the UK for the first time last week … I would say as long as we use Google maps or some kind of app that gives ratings on restaurants, it’s easy to find great British food
"They sound like a hungry band still." Jammin Jon is always on point. This is better than firepower, because it's the second good one in a row. This band is the classic example of hit or miss albums. The fact that they dropped this AFTER Firepower...seriously fellas, when was the last time this band put 2 good ones out in a row?! Holy shit. Dude I'm 15 listening to painkillers again. This album is nuts.
@paulseidler1644 You read my mind dude. This album incorporates more of their classic songwriting styles with the aggression and punch of firepower. This album shows growth, something I wish my favorite band (Maiden) would show.
Necrotic Nick- He's not wrong. You can feel that energy on here and honestly I'm with you guys in terms of this being a killer 2 album run. I'd say it's right up there with Screaming for Vengeance & Defenders of the Faith or even Sin After Sin & Stained Class.
Fantastic album. I like it a little more than firepower because the songs have more flavor to them. The more midpaced songs that aren't as busy have insanely catchy choruses. Overall, I prefer Maiden to Priest, but damn if these last 2 albums dont blow away the recent output by Maiden and most other classic metal bands out there...
Necrotic Nick- I'm still on the fence as to whether or not I like it more than Firepower but as it stands it's at least a tie with that one and I love that album. This album is built on riffs and hooks of all kinds and the pretty much epic, anthemic vibe of the album and it nails it. I love both Priest and Maiden but Priest has them beat right now with their newer output for sure and it's not even close.
Great video and review guys! It's really hard not to listen to this album and not have a big smile on my face! So with everything being said where does this new album sit in the JP rankings?
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! Yeah, we were headbanging and just pausing to yell out a big "Fuck Yeah!" after about every track lol. Man, it's a tough call at this point in terms of were this ranks but I'd say top 10 easy at least at this point.
All right, here's my ranking of Judas Priest's albums: 1. Defenders of the Faith (still my #1) 2. Painkiller 3. Screaming for Vengeance 4. British Steel 5. Stained Class 6. Killing Machine 7. Sad Wings of Destiny 8. Invincible Shield 9. Firepower 10. Demolition 11. Ram it Down 12. Sin After Sin 13. Redeemer of Souls 14. Point of Entry 15. Turbo 16. Angel of Retribution 17. Rocka Rolla 18. Jugulator 19. NOSTRADAMUS *(pure cringe!)*
@@thrallsofmetal Yeah and that is definitely in there for Nostradamus, which is DEAD LAST! I would also say that it's at the top of the cringe meter at PURE cringe.
Judas Priest still rocking out. Been a fan since Point of Entry back in 1981. I knew of them in 1980 on the British Steel tour, I remember the band being announced on the radio to play a concert in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. 🤘
"Third Generation" by Constricted, which was a band that two of the Thralls, Shredlord and Rin, were in. I looked at the Archives and it still says that Constricted are active.
Necrotic Nick- Robert, I've asked you multiple times to not answer for us. We'll get to the comments. I promise. Please stop or I'll delete your comments.
How in the hell is Rob Halford sounding this good at 72? I mean, his vocal style is hard to pull off to begin with and he's just fucking nailing it. The whole band is.
@@thrallsofmetal anytime brother and I'm still trying to catch up on your other review shows as I'm way behind. But I'll catch up eventually. Can't wait for the Messugah rankings.
I was catching up on some 2024 new releases tonight and I gave the highly praised Traveler a spin. Well that album just fucking slaps. It's pretty damn heavy for traditional heavy metal.
Necrotic Nick- I think it was supposed to be a nod to Rush since the bridge melody before the first leads are essentially the melodies from Tom Sawyer.
I thought “Firepower” was good but this album is even better which shocked me. This is the best Priest has sounded since “Painkiller” and I don’t say that lightly.
I did not even have a chance to listen whole album and review is on its way, you are just crazy metal lunatics, fanatics etc ...in good metal way, look forward to it, still got 4 hours to go, S t a y m e e e e t a a a a a a l forever
This one was really damn good, as good as Firepower for sure. Sidenote, just got out of another crowbar gig and my head feels like a WW2 air raid siren hahaha
The lodger gave me instant Hypocrisy vibes, anyone else or am I crazy? It's my favorite tune on the album and it's a bonus track! "Vengeance is miiiiiiiiine!"
@@thrallsofmetal you're a fellow death head, I know you'll pick up on it too. The melody has late 90's/ early 00's Hypocrisy written all over it. Creepy ass track that's different for Priest but Rob sounds so awesome, especially in the chorus.
Hey guys , bit off topic but I really hope you are aware of the new Slimelord album who's title I will not write and you'll see why. Surely this thing is Necrotic and John 100 percent through and through, REVIEW REVIEW!!!!!Love and thanks , Angus
If you can't review it I honestly think you should give it a spin , from years of watching you guys I think you and Jammin would really dig , could be wrong! Much love
Are you guys gonna be reviewing Slimelord? I feel like this gem will be lost in the shuffle because of the amount of big albums out this week. It's a 20 Bucks Spin release and it has ya'lls taste written all over it
Necrotic Nick- If we have time. This week is really busy but if we don't cover it in a review I'll cover it in collection update for sure. I've already jammed a track and I really like what I heard.
@thrallsofmetal I had a feeling you'd do Priest, Exhorder, and Skeletal Remains this week. I'll be listening to the latter two tonight. It's a shame Slimelord was released on such a huge week because this is already one of my faves for the year.
Judas Priest are aging like fine wine 🍷
Necrotic Nick- Agreed!
I have no idea how are they releasing bangers like Firepower and Invincible Shield this late into their career, but I'm all for it. Great video guys!
Necrotic Nick- Same here. They must actually be Metal Gods because I'm out of other more reasonable theories lol
Firepower?? really?? that shit was way too standard generic Heavy Metal.. A paint by the numbers .. er.. number.... But this new album has at least 2 great songs that deserve attention.. finally..
Two words- Richie Faulkner
4 precisely - title track, As God is My Witness, The Serpent and the King and Crown of Horns
So good…
Can’t stop listening…
🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Necrotic Nick- Same here, man!
Excellent, excellent album. And Richie is a great guitarist and song writer, he really implanted some extra creativity to the band.
Necrotic Nick- I think he was the shot in the arm they needed honestly. I love KK for all he's done but I'm not going to hate on Richie for being the badass he is.
This is easily a top 10 Priest record for me.
It’s crazy they’re still putting out brilliant albums 50 YEARS into their career!
Necrotic Nick- Bare minimum it's in my Top 10 for Judas Priest... it's just where in the Top 10 it lands is what still needs to be determined lol. Yeah, I'm still blow away at how amazing this band is at this point in their career.
It is impressive, definitely top 20. Makes me want to break stuff
@@charvDKgtr TOP 20 😂🤣
This album is definitely in my top 19 Priest albums for sure ;)
Yeah, The Lodger’s a bit weird, but I still found it enjoyable. Every other track is a certified banger.
The Lodger was composed by Bob Halligan Jr. and I think its a very interesting song. A worthy addition imho
I really like The Lodger. It’s clearly very different from the rest of the album with its spooky vibe. Reminds me a bit of Blue Öyster Cult.
Necrotic Nick- It's a ripper for sure and at least on equal footing with Firepower for me which that album was such a banger as well.
Holy shit, I'm really stunned at how good this is. It'll be in the rotation for a long time.
Necrotic Nick- I feel like I shouldn't surprise me after how bad ass Firepower was but I'm still blow away at how invigorated and vibrant they sound this far into their career. I love it.
They r more brutal than ever Thralls of metal hails guys what a CLASSIC PRIEST RECORD!!!!
Scott Travis is the most underrated metal drummer ever his double bass drumming is so precise and pummeling as well.
Necrotic Nick- Hails, man! Scott is a fuckin' beast of a drummer.
Fantastic review of a fantastic album - naff cover aside - and it proves they just keep, err...delivering the goods.
Havnt heard the review yet. But I love this album so much. Rob is an amazing vocalist and person
Necrotic Nick- Rob's been one of my heroes for years. He personifies metal to me and he's been through hell and back and become stronger for it. A true Metal God.
Me: "They're releasing another album? Firepower was so good, how can they ever follow it up?"
Me after the singles: Okay I guess there was nothing to worry about after all.
They did it again. SoaB.
Necrotic Nick- That's pretty much it lol
The mighty Priest strike again!!...What absolute Legends, what other band in any genre are still delivering the goods (pun intended)50 years after their inception? Killer album, I can see this ranking high in many a year end list!
Necrotic Nick- Just flat out fucking legends. It's takes a truly special band to be able to pull off what they're doing right now. This album brought me so much joy just hearing these guys this far into their career make another landmark album.
Are we getting a review for Midnight "Hellish Expectations"?
Necrotic Nick- That's on the list for sure.
I am so down for this video!
Necrotic Nick- It was almost as much fun shooting it as it was listening to the album lol
@thrallsofmetal I love that you love the album! Have you seen the performance video for the title track that the band released yesterday? It's ripping! So happy to see them playing together, after all those cut-and-paste videos. 🔥
Probably the BEST review i have seen you guys do. Super stoked to get the new Priest album, and I was laughing my ass off. Thank you gentlemen.
Necrotic Nick- Hey! Thanks, man! Yeah, we were all hyped about talking about this one and just one cloud 9 when it came down to how awesome this was.
Invincible Shield is the best Judas Priest album since 1984's Defenders Of The Faith it just tops Firepower but not by much...all 11 tracks are classics
Great album!
Necrotic Nick- Agreed!
Rob does sound incredible on this, it's gonna be on my constant playlist this week for sure!
Necrotic Nick- I have no idea how he still does it but he flat out killed it on here.
Thank you judas priest for the best birthday gift ever!
I hope shred does his own review of this. That’s the one that matters
Necrotic Nick- He wasn’t available for this one but I’m sure he loved it.
For me it's the best Priest album since Painkiller.
Necrotic Nick- Tough call because Firepower was such a banger but this is fantastic.
A great album, not as intense as Firepower but still a great album! 4 out of 5 ! Rob Halford can still sing and he’s in his 70s ! Unbelievable!!!
Necrotic Nick- I still have a soft spot for The Kinks as well. Have fun at that show, man!
Had somewhat high expectations after the strong singles and happy that the album lives up to them. Rob sounds absolutely incredible on this
Necrotic Nick- Yeah, honestly some of deep cuts were even better than the singles to be honest.
THE PRIEST IS BACK 🤟😈🤟
Necrotic Nick- Fuck yeah they are!
This is the best Priest album in the 21st century. An absolutely amazing piece of work!
Necrotic Nick- It could be. Firepower is still a banger though but this album is killer as well.
Commenting again just to say Rin crushed those high vocals in the intro!!!!! 🤘
Necrotic Nick- We had no idea he was going to do that either lol.
Firepower surprised the sh*t out of me, and now I'm forced by the Invincible Shield to listen to this (it's listed on the Heavy Metal syllabus)
I hope it's as good as you guys say it is.
Will there be 20 albums? Let's hope so
Necrotic Nick- If they can bring this level of quality and still have the drive to make another album then I'm all for it.
Really good album review of the new Priest LP. Very Enjoyable Nick!!
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man!
I felt like I was back in 04 when I heard them for the first time
And I know my Firepower take is hot, it’s a great album and in fairness I need to go back and listen to it, but it never grabbed me in past listens
Necrotic Nick- I'll admit that the Rob reunion run has had it's pitfalls but I think Firepower and this one leave all of the other ones they've done since Rob returned in the dust. This just has the power and conviction in full swing again.
Rob Halford is in his 70s he sounds amazing.
Great review gents. All hail Priest!
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! Hail Priest!
Awesome album, just listened last night and I couldn't believe my ears.
Necrotic Nick- Killer album pretty much start to finish.
@@thrallsofmetal seeing them with Saxon next week. I'll tell you all about it 😁
ok you guys make me want to listen to this since im also not a huge priest fan but they have a couple epic albums painkiller, stained class, defenders. nice review
Necrotic Nick- Just do it, man. Don't even second guess that feeling and just jam this album. Thanks, man!
this new album is amazing start to finish...even the bonus tracks are cool. priest rule...im from same place in midlands with black sabbath from 5 mins up rd... halford still has his childhood house and its the next road to where me mum lives...like 20 secs walk... yet to see him yet but i wil catch him one day ha....peace from mids/bham uk
@@thrallsofmetal Well said!
Me thinks Iron Maiden went to drinking bottled water instead@@thrallsofmetal
This album kicks ass. I would put this in my top 5 favorite Priest albums of all time, which does seem ridiculous, but that's how I feel right now. I'll have to look at this again after a few months.
1. Screaming for Vengeance
2. Painkiller
3. Defenders of the Faith
4. British Steel
5. Invincible Shield
No. 5? Wow....I have to check this album out much more than I actually did
Necrotic Nick- I'd say bare minimum it's in my Top 10 for Judas Priest. Not sure where it exactly falls but there's no way it falls below 10.
Vengeance is mmmmmaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiinnnnneeeeeee
Necrotic Nick- They definitely screamed for it again on here.
Great reviews...album is amazing..wow
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man!
I have a large stack of new releases to listen to. After this one finished I immediatley pressed play again. I seldom do that.
@@thrallsofmetal
I just visited the UK for the first time last week … I would say as long as we use Google maps or some kind of app that gives ratings on restaurants, it’s easy to find great British food
What an album!!!! It's good enough to pour beans over.
Necrotic Nick- Don't you dare pour beans over this album j/k lol!
Seriously, you probably gotta go back to screaming and defenders for that kind of back to back quality 🤘
Well done dudes! I'm getting it ASAP.
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man!
@@thrallsofmetalthanks for flashing Sin After Sin. If it's even close to that it's a winner
You're right in thinking it sounds like Ozzy. He does guest vocals on Escape from Reality.
Necrotic Nick- I can't find anything that says he's on the album honestly. I think it might have just been Rob.
@@thrallsofmetal Metal Archives had him credited as guest vocals on that track. I just checked again and now it doesn't, so you are probably correct.
Love the album
Necrotic Nick- Same here, man
Great video and review guys!
All right, here's my ranking of Judas Priest's albums:
1. Defenders of the Faith (still my #1)
2. Painkiller
3. Screaming for Vengeance
4. British Steel
5. Stained Class
6. Killing Machine
7. Sad Wings of Destiny
8. Invincible Shield
9. Firepower
10. Demolition
11. Ram it Down
12. Sin After Sin
13. Redeemer of Souls
14. Point of Entry
15. Turbo
16. Angel of Retribution
17. Rocka Rolla
18. Jugulator
19. NOSTRADAMUS *(pure cringe!)*
Necrotic Nick- What's the definition of "cringe"?
@@thrallsofmetal If something is "cringe" or "cringy", this means it's embarrassing, awkward, or uncool.
Necrotic Nick- Can it be all 3 of those things?
@@thrallsofmetal Yeah and that is definitely in there for Nostradamus, which is DEAD LAST! I would also say that it's at the top of the cringe meter at PURE cringe.
Great review guys I love this album.
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, Ben! Yeah, this thing fuckin' rules!
Judas Priest still rocking out. Been a fan since Point of Entry back in 1981. I knew of them in 1980 on the British Steel tour, I remember the band being announced on the radio to play a concert in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. 🤘
Necrotic Nick- I think I was pretty much made a fan watching MTV as kid in my under roos when I saw their videos. They've been with me ever since.
@@thrallsofmetalJP video Hot Rockin’ was cool for its time when I saw it on MTV. SFV is still my favorite though. 🤘
is there a kick ass bass on it?
Necrotic Nick- Eh, when they isolate it you can hear it but Sneap doesn't generally show much love to the bass.
Listened through once and I think it might be better than Firepower!!!! 🤯
Necrotic Nick- I'm still on the fence on that one but at bare minimum they're a tie right now.
I will be blasting this masterpeice every day until I see them in Bournemouth Next week. Rob Fucking Halford 72 years old
Necrotic Nick- I've already jammed it again once more today. More effective than coffee for waking up lol.
Anyone know what the intro song is?
"Third Generation" by Constricted, which was a band that two of the Thralls, Shredlord and Rin, were in. I looked at the Archives and it still says that Constricted are active.
Thank you. I thought it was Nick on vocals for some reason.
@@Real_Name_Jim Rin is on vocals in Constricted.
Necrotic Nick- I have no answers other than "he's a metal god" at this point lol.
You lost me at beans. Stick to music analysis 🎶😂. I really enjoyed this review 🎉
Necrotic Nick- I mean, I love beans... just not dumped on everything j/k lol. Thanks, man!
Just got through blasting this one and it's a fantastic album! 5 of 5 from me boys!🤘🖤🔥😈
Necrotic Nick- Thanks
@@thrallsofmetal anytime brother and I'm still trying to catch up on your other review shows as I'm way behind. But I'll catch up eventually. Can't wait for the Messugah rankings.
Awesome album
Necrotic Nick- Agreed. This was a fuckin' banger!
Hello! Good album absolutely. Grazy think that band is 50-years old and release still good albums. Metal gods absolutely
Necrotic Nick- I'm convinced Rob Halford knows the location of the fountain of youth lol
Rin is so funny! One of my fav alltime bands and this album slaps so hard indeed! Cheers my dudes 🤘
I was just about to post the exact opposite
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! yeah, we had a lot of fun with this one.
I was catching up on some 2024 new releases tonight and I gave the highly praised Traveler a spin. Well that album just fucking slaps. It's pretty damn heavy for traditional heavy metal.
Necrotic Nick- I've heard that name dropped a few times. I may have to check that one out.
Great review guys, just wondering where is Shredlord?!?
Necrotic Nick- He couldn't make it due to his work schedule but he'll be back soon.
Love Escape from Reality, sounds like Sabbath meets Monster Magnet. 🤘
Necrotic Nick- It's a good song but the verses didn't have the same punch as other tracks.
WHYYYY was The Lodger left out of the tracklist? Could've been a 5/5 with that track on and Sons of Thunder off
Necrotic Nick- We only went over the standard version since that's all I had. I'll check out the bonus tracks at some point though.
I'm going to see them with Saxon as the first part in Lyon (France) in 1 month 🔥🤘🔥 !!!
Necrotic Nick- Nice! I hope you have a blast at that show, man!
Its a amazing Rob you sound like you have another 50 years. 👍
Necrotic Nick- Rob flat out killed it on this one.
the beginning of Panic Attack as that Turbo sounding thing going. I gotta say new Judas Priest album is pretty great
Necrotic Nick- I think it was supposed to be a nod to Rush since the bridge melody before the first leads are essentially the melodies from Tom Sawyer.
I thought “Firepower” was good but this album is even better which shocked me. This is the best Priest has sounded since “Painkiller” and I don’t say that lightly.
Good review Necrotic Nick and Jammin Jon interesting as always but honest opinion would have been much better without the joker
Necrotic Nick- Thank you, but we're all jokers here.
I did not even have a chance to listen whole album and review is on its way, you are just crazy metal lunatics, fanatics etc ...in good metal way, look forward to it, still got 4 hours to go, S t a y m e e e e t a a a a a a l forever
Necrotic Nick- I got it early so I had time to jam it but I won't argue that we're not fanatics lol. Hope you dug the review, man!
Dug it and Listened JP few times great music again
This one was really damn good, as good as Firepower for sure. Sidenote, just got out of another crowbar gig and my head feels like a WW2 air raid siren hahaha
Necrotic Nick- Agreed. Yeah, that sounds like what I felt after one of the last Crowbar sets I saw lol.
The lodger gave me instant Hypocrisy vibes, anyone else or am I crazy? It's my favorite tune on the album and it's a bonus track!
"Vengeance is miiiiiiiiine!"
Necrotic Nick- I still need to jam the extra tracks on this one. I only got the regular edition.
Necrotic Nick- We might cover that one if we have time. I'm pretty interested in that one honestly.
Cathedral spires is still one of Judas priest best songs ever imo. Ripper killed it. But this album is in the top of all priest albums!
Necrotic Nick- That's probably the best song he ever did with them but Rob still beats him.
