purchased this exact mower in dec 2019, have 9.6 hrs on it. NO vibration! smooth and quite! excellent cut, couldn't be happier. Would purchase another one tomorrow. (update) 5/4/2022...Almost 3 years now and STILL loving it! NO PROBLEMS at all!
I bought mine 4 days ago, 54” and has kohler 22hp motor and LOVE it...super smooth, nice cutting, zero complaints. I mowed my entire street the first day i brought it home, then mowed an acre of tall grass the next day, still no problems...feels solid as a rock to me 😉👍
I run a 50" zt1 as my only mower for a commercial condo management operation. Mow about 22 acres a week with it. Oil change and blade sharpening 2-3x a season and haven't had any issues yet. So far it's been a great machine.
Zt2 54"cub was my first zero turn when I started my landscape maintenance company and it was great for a entry into commercial maintenance. I have since upgraded but we still use it quite often!
@@chris2790 you're probably right, but i basically bought it as a 1 year throw away machine and it just finished it's 2nd season of cutting and its still getting the job done without any problems.
I expect this mower will last several seasons with decent care. th-cam.com/users/postUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend Also, I ran across the problem with it not starting the 2nd time I used it. There is a safety switch which is pushed in by the chute or mulching piece being attached to the deck. I took the cover off and it wouldn't start. Put it back on, no problem. It takes only a minute with 2 easily accessible wingnuts and no tools. This mower starts up first crank each time and it is a joy to use. It also mows in reverse by putting the key to the reverse area after starting and pushing in the triangular button. It will stay in reverse mode until you turn it off. All in all, for my homeowner needs, I really like this mower-and at 70 bucks a cut here in Miami, it's already more than 1/3 paid for itself in a month.
You should back off the throttle before engaging the pto, then throttle back up. Throttle down when disengaging the pto also. This reduces the load on the deck and engine. I don’t care what the rep says.
I can fully understand that concept, and thought of it and tried it myself. But for this machine, the deck actually seems to more smoothly at full throttle when engaging the PTO. A Rep is a guy who relays factory information of the product they built. I think it is almost always a mistake to think they don't know what they are doing.
I purchased the ZT1-50 with the Kawasaki engine at the beginning of the 2019 season. I mow 4-4.5 acres at my home every week During the spring, summer, and fall. When I put the mower away for the winter it had just over 57 hours on it. I have had zero issues with the mower. It cuts great with very few stragglers as long as you keep the blades sharp. I have no vibration issues with mine but I also throttle down when engaging and disengaging the Deck. It’s a great mower and I’d definitely buy it again but with a bigger deck this time lol.
I have one of these, in my second season. It has had no issues that weren't caused by my own abuse/neglect. My ground is rough, with tons of rocks. This is the first mower I've used that I believe will hold up long term
Yep- max revs - engage PTO and take off- sure it will shudder a bit. I've had no problem - never had a problem with a belt - had three Cub Cadets including the new zero turn - do about 3 acres - some of it rough- NO ISSUES!
I bought a zt1 50 at the beginning of the year and originally was only mowing 4 yards with it. Now I mow 10 yards and a small business property. The mower does great for me. I’ve only put about 20 hours on it so far and the only bad thing I have noticed with the mower is the blades. They seem cheap and dull pretty quick which seems to leave some grass still standing but after sharpening them it made a big difference in the cut quality. Personally I don’t think it’s the best for how much I use it but it does work and the mower runs great especially for the price. Only thing I would have done differently was buy the zt2 50 if I knew I would be mowing as much as I am now. But all in all I am very pleased with the mower.
That's great to hear you're up to 10 yards! The blade are very cheap in my opinion as well. I would like to put some Scag high lift blades on this one.
Same mine was used for 35 residential houses all last year and only had one issue. A stick bounced between a belt and threw it off. I did a few upgrades and it’s ready for this year!!!
Have had my zt1 50 for about 18 months. 120 hours currently mow about 3 to 4 acres a week. Deck rumbles like it’s got a mild cam in it, love it. I do my own maintenance and repairs haven’t had 1 issue with this mower, it’s been flawless. Don’t underestimate the rigidity of that fabricated deck. (IMO is why it may transfer vibration thru the mower itself) vs stamped decks absorbing it. The fact is it’s Rigid!!!! Go buy a JD. CC should just refund your money.
I think the mower you reviewed might be a lemon. Got mine today and it works flawlessly without vibration or any unusual noise. Works perfectly! Maybe mine, delivered on 5-28-20, had the issue you discussed resolved before leaving the production line. It is a fantastic mower and worth every penny. Good luck with yours - maybe swap it out for a new one. Thanks for your video.
At 7:40...."engage blades at maximum RPM". I was told exactly the opposite by my Cub Cadet dealer. He said to engage and disengage the blade PTO ONLY at a slower RPM. This makes perfect sense to me and is what I am doing. Again, the dealer and Cub Cadet tech are giving different answers. How does everybody else feel?
Our 54" does our 4+ acres of lawn and pasture in under 2 hours. What a fun 2 hours it is now. Our lawn mowing went from 5 hrs of drudgery to 2 hrs of fun. The 54" has a long belt run at front right that could really use a dampener but that is the only vibration I can find and it is minor but I plan on a mod when time allows. Best $3k we have ever spent and TSC has a 4% deal on full amount. $100 discount at every holiday etc as well. Doing pasture I run full out with our 24hp Kohler. This thing is fast. Everyone guesses I paid over 4k which I find interesting as well. Very fuel efficient as well. Less than half a tank for our entire homestead.
I am running through fuel kind of quickly in mine. I'm not sure if it's because I run a little slower on the yards and cost in the field, or the motor is too much for the mower. I am glad I have it, but I'm also excited to get to demo other models real soon. I do mow my properties too fast now that I have this mower, now I need another yard or two to call it work again, lol.
@@g4outdoors lol, our grass has never grown so slow. I have opened up more areas with our old Dr. Brush mower to clear them of rocks and branches for the ZT. Mowing was never supposed to be this much fun 👍😎👌 Kep in mind the motor runs at full speed for a great cut so if you go too slow you are wasting gas. I go full out whenever conditions allow and it always looks great.
joe k It is Matt Snook! He’s taken all of his music down from his sites because he has been signed!! Some of my videos are already demonetized because of his music being in it. I’ll be real disappointed when his label gets ahold of Guitars Girls Green Grass and Guns. That is the song I built my channel on! Lol.
@@g4outdoors I have a little over two acers with about 70 trees that I mow every single week. I have a Hustler Raptor 52 and just keep clean with sharp blades and I've beat on pretty good. I don't have an hour meter so no idea on how many hours but has never let me down.
I have the ZT1 54 and I love it this mower is a real workhorse. I cut my 2 acre lawn and the grass road shoulders and a couple of pretty steep ditch banks. The only thing I could even mention is it uses about a gallon of gas per hour of running it hard in the North Carolina southern heat
I’ve had mine for over a year I go rough with mine I don’t have any trouble have not even needed an oil/battery change maybe it’s just the user not the maker🤷🏽♂️
I’m in the market for a good zero turn and I swear everybody has something bad to say about every brand I’ve looked up. I really like the Cub Cadet. It looks great, sits comfortable, and the price point isn’t bad at all. The one I looked at is $3,200.00 brand new with a lifetime warranty on the deck. At the end of the day every mower is going to have its good and bad points.
Thats right and its because only a few companies make all the mowers. I got this ZT1 a month ago and have no problems with its function EXCEPT the abysmal mulching kit (dont waste your money). Im very happy with my purchase and have had no issues at all.
@@soylentgreen2065 Glad to hear it. I bought one also and it’s perfect for what I need it for. I will say that if you’re trying to cut knee high grass, expect the mower to bog out. I helped a guy cut a small field for the 4th and mine struggled in some places. But overall I’m happy with my purchase.
Really happy to see these comments. Saw a lot of great review on this mower and will be getting my new one delivered tomorrow. Then I saw this and one other video making this sound like the worst mower ever. Was feeling like maybe I made a bad mistake but then I saw the comments on this video and the other bad review video I watched and the comments in both videos all say how great the mower is. I’m not worried any more and it either user error on the two videos? Anyway I can’t wait to get it tomorrow 🤗
Shopped around at big box stores. Decided to buy Kubota z231 rated for up to 2 - 4 acres, I have 3/4 acres. I'm very happy with my 42 inch 21.5 kawasaki kubota mower.
I'm not sure I need a big heavy duty mower. I've been mowing 7 acres in Florida for 15 years with the same 42 in 999.00 dollar Murray rider. The 17.5 one cylinder Briggs still runs good. The transaxel is still good I'm still on my original blade spindles, the deck has lots of holes in it but works. Yes it's bout wore out but lasted 15 yrs and is still kicking. I'm looking at the 2020 arians apex 52 or 60. If the cheap Murray lasted that long the arians should last 50 yrs according to my beer calculation. Good video 🍺
I have had the Apex 60” for a year to demo. Check out my reviews on that! I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to buy one! I had a Cub Zero Turn lawn tractor last me 12 years, I sold it in solid condition. Sometimes you just get a good one ya know?
I got a cub cadet z force 48 with steering wheel for 10 years and still like first day , is 6 acres weekly most of the year but jan and feb once every two weeks.
Just replaced my left side spindle yesterday on my ZT1 60-inch deck mower. The Cub Cadet OEM spindles are outrageously overpriced - purchased direct replacements from Amazon. Works fine and runs smooth.
Thanks for the videos. I purchase my CC Ultima ZT1 50" early this spring and I love it. I cut a lot of my lawn at full speed and it does a fine job cutting in my opinion. My prior mowers were a Honda push mower which was super (still starts on the first pull) and an old Craftsman 36" tractor I bought second hand that also was pretty good. My current property us just under an acre and the ZT1 is perfect for me.
my property is 3.5 acres. i go full speed as much as possible to save time. i dont get stragglers until my blades are messed up. im actually really happy with mine. i never have issues with it
For a cheap repairable mower > I'am happy with the Pony. I mow 12 acers with it, and i put it threw HELL! Hitting limbs, pine cones, Gopher Mounds, Fire Ant mounds, all that sand and dirt is hard on blades.. but she a little beast. I put a hitch on it to pull trailers, I load them down with fire wood, and trash, limbs, and things. Then i put a chain on the hitch to drag logs with it. I work it hard 👍👍 I'am lucky to get 2 months out a set of blades > Now the bad about the Pony all that grass goes on top of the deck and wear out the deck belts, I tried to adjust the tilt. but it still pills up on top of the deck. Wearing out belts Plus its bad about > getting little limb and pine cones up into the deck belts, and BUSTING THEM > The engagement cables is always breaking. From all the trash up on the deck. So i have to keep 2 on hand > The cable pull out of the spring hinger. Very rare it breaks the cable! SO there is a factory flag🔴 THERE > Poor designed 👉👉 All that hold the cable into the spring hanger. IS LEAD 👉👉 They need to weld a metal ball in to the cable.. The spring hanger is made out of cheap metal, and some time the hook breaks
Sales Reps have more often than not, kept me from buying their products. The Old School Stand Alone type Dealer with a reputable service department is where I'll be headed.
@@larryspiller6633 on the other hand a chain like TSC probably has more clout so it really depends on the manager. In my case I do all my own work anyhow so if there were to be a problem I would be dealing direct with Cub anyway. These are such simple machines there really isn't much that can go wrong and a 3 year warranty can't be beat. I am just grateful I waited as long as I did. As a career machinery troubleshooter I took to this design immediately. Btw, I went with TSC because of their 4% / 3yr loan on any purchase over $1500. Cheap $.
LOL Cub Cadet is owned by MTD, commercial or chain store bought doesn't matter they are all junk these days. 25 years ago cub cadet was primo....now they are absolute *JUNK* Even John Deer is going down the tubes as far as quality. Buy a Kubota, Gravely, Scag, Xmark, Toro. Anything but John Deer and Cub Cadet, although some of the John Deer Commercial mowers mow really nice, they don't last.
@@greenmarine5 and yet as a life long machinery repair and redesign guy I love how this machine is made and I have found NOTHING about it that says junk. The Kohler is great, the spindles are heavy duty, the frame is incredibly strong, the blades are twice as heavy as the Husqvarna, access for maintenance and cleaning is very well thought out without all the plastic covers and moldings in the way and it mows perfectly as well as very fast. Unlike so many I have looked at even oil changes are a breeze. Do you have facts to back up your little tirade or are you just mouthing off? Not everyone wants or needs a $7000 mower. At $3k for the 54" you cannot beat this machine anywhere.
I recently bought a CC Z FORCE SX54. fIrst job was cutting knee high to hip high grass in some places due to a very wet spring here in Northern Ohio. 1 3/4 ACRES. Mower did real good. Problem I had was getting rid of 8 inch piles of cutting after. The Ultima is a lightweight mower.
I have 1 1/2 acres. My ZT1 50 is running great. Minimal vibrations. Could this be something that is caused by bad assembly? Just curious cause mine is running fine.
Last year I bought the XT 1 54 inch and we upgraded from the 46 inch craftsman that we had for 30 years and this cub cadet is so tippy. We have hills on the property and the switch in the seat if you just wiggle a little bit, and shut the bar deck off I stayed with my craftsman😎
I purchased a Cub Cadet ZT1 on 4/30/2019. The right side hydraulic drive broke with 3 hours of use on the meter. The two local authorized repair centers were so busy repairing Cub Cadets, they refused to take mine. I had to drive 1.5 hours (one way) from home to a shop that would take it. It has been over 5 weeks! and it hasnt been touched yet. I called this morning and they said they were going to get on it. The delay had been due to Cub Cadet's warranty authorization department. They said Cub Cadet normally sends out a replacement drive unit and just has it swapped out. In my case, they dont have an available replacement so they are telling the shop to tear the drive down and let the factory know what they see. DO NOT BUY A CUB CADET. What good is a mower if it is at the repair shop all the time. What good is a warranty if it takes months to get your machine back from a repair. Cub Cadet emailed me asking me to do a review of my new mower on their website. I did. They didnt like the negative review so they said it would not be published on their site. They wouldnt want the public to know the truth. They havent done a thing for me thus far. I asked them to expedite the repair. They said NO. Once they have made the sale, you are not even an after-thought. I actually own a Cub Cadet riding mower and the new ZT1 and I can assure you that I will NEVER buy another Cub Cadet. I will remain quite outspoken on the internet regarding this too so that other buyers wont be in the position that I am in now.
I bought skag in 2015 ... I've never taken it back to the shop since the warranty lapsed (fuel line goromet not installed completely) have had no spindal problems and I replace my own belts
The cub cadet rzt residential mowers in general since 05ish have had major quality control issues . If you get a good one they're decent mowers . Ran a lawn business for 9 years with one rzt42 , two rzt50s and got lucky . All 3 ran and cut great with a 100ish account route only had 1 pump motor failure (rzt50) and 1 spindle failure (rzt42) the entire 9 years .
You got a bad one I guess. I have a zt2 60” mows five acres a week. Hell I mow woods small oak trees in pines and then goes right back to a clean cut when I go back to grass. 7.5 full blast. I mow on 2.0”. I think it’s operator error here
Should I be concerned when my zt2 right out of the gate is misaligned? I pull the lap bar straight back and it pulls one way. The same going forward when both bars are fully extended.
Easy fix. Take the wrench from the holder and just adjust the set screws so that it tracks straight. Make sure you tighten the tension nuts on the backside when you have it set.
I just bought one of these 3 weeks ago and the only thing i notice is the front left wheel squeeks. Heard other people that had that problem as well. These mowers are selling like hot cakes this year. My dealer cant keep them in stock.
I purchased a z force s last year and absolutely love it. I prefer the steering wheel over the lap bars. Just my opinion. But looking forward to your follow up video on your ultima. They are bad ass looking mowers!!!
We have a regular "tractor-style" Husqvarna riding mower that's about less than a year old. Even though it's not a zero-turn, I swear it can turn just as sharp as our Ultima XT1. I still need to use the Ultima for getting really close next to fences though, since the deck is wider on it.
Not sure if they beefed up the deck stability in 2021, by my deck seems nice and solid... maybe an updated review with a new model? One bummer though, they eliminated the hour meter, but an easy fix with an after-market one....
Here’s my personal experience with Cub Cadet. I paid over 10 grand cash for one of their premium products. I mow about six acres on my land and it never finished mowing one time without breaking down. The dealer was at a loss after picking it up three times to find the issues. I requested my money back. The dealership got zero support from Cub. Only when I got the Attorney General of my state involved in the matter did I get my money back. My local dealer dropped their whole line and has never sold them since. Personally, you couldn’t give me one for personal use. Any manufacturer can build a turd from time to time but them not standing by their products is unacceptable.
Went to pick up a ZTX4 60 earlier today. Called the dealer to confirm they had it, I have done my research and even with the negative reviews I figured all makers have negative reviews plus I like the look of this unit. When I arrived at the dealership, I noticed it was scratched and dented plus the blades were rusty and the bolts on the control board were rusty. This is a brand new unit, I asked the salesman if this was used he responded that it is brand new and they just unpacked it. I told him I am uncomfortable paying for a brand new unit in this condition, he responded that many times they unbox them and they have damage plus he told me what's the big deal, the first time you take it out you are going to scratch it. I once again informed him that when I pay for a NEW unit, I expect a new Unit, not some damaged, rusted unit. He offered to take $100 off the unit, I said thanks but NO THANKS, I suppose I hurt his feelings and so we left. Went up the street to a John Deere dealership and picked up a commercial unit that is more expensive and I thank God this happened because I believe I have made the right choice. The lack of professionalism and the fact that these units come from the factory damaged leads me to believe that I was blessed to walk away from cub cadet!
A lot of dealers leave their mowers outside in the weather. Blows my mind that they do that. I wouldn't leave a $400.00 dollar push mower outside in the elements, let alone a $4,000.00 plus mower. Our local Kubota dealer, leaves all of their Zero Turns out in the weather. Crazy.
I bought a Cub cadet rzt 50 back in 2008 . I have about 2.5 arces to cut. It's still runs good but the deck is the weak spot on it. I have had to weld the deck 3 different times so far ( the mount to lift the deck broke , and both wheel mounts broke.). Just for the record I have beat the shit out of this mower since I owned it and it's still running and cutting my weeds.
I mow about 5 acres. Have used a Befco RD5 pto mower for the last 30 years. Needed some new wheels once. Replaced the belts once. Goes thru a set of blades every 2 years. You need a sub compact tractor for it. Yet it is always reliable and ready to work. This finish mower deck sits outside, has never been under cover. You get what you pay for. I have used a few cub cadet products, they are on the lower end of reliability and durability.
Thanks for the video! I've seen several vibrating deck videos for this model (my wife would love to have this option, but not so much for me)...Will switch my research back to Gravely and JD
Its not the deck that makes it a residential mower it's the pumps the z-t1 is not serviceable the zt2 is after a thousand hours it's done that's about 10-15 possibly even 20 years for most residential lawn mower applications but it would never hold up running it 5 to 6 hours a day 5 days a week for a commercial business you would burn it up in a summer or two and the pumps cost almost as much as the motor........... The truth it's just a residential mower but it's a nice residential lawn mower
I have a cub cadet riding mower, well I had one. It was a good mower but I always had to jump start it even after putting a new battery in it. I also have friends that have one with the same issue. Anyway, I brought it in to have a tune up and to fix the issues I was having. Got it back yesterday and got on it today mower my yard. Well, I wasn't even on it 15 minutes when the engine caught fire so now I have a new yard ornament.
1 year down on my ZT1-50, (only 20 hours on it), and it still does what it is suppose to do and cuts fine if the grass is not real thick and shaggy. The deck may wobble a bit more than most when you hit the pto, but that maybe because the deck is hung on 3 points instead of the normal 4 points. After engagement, I don't experience any excess deck vibration or noise. It just sings along. I think you posed some vid of the pulley's on pto engagement and running a bit, but that does not really mean anything to the viewers. I have never seen a vid by those who say it vibrates a lot that can actually show me that it is vibrating excessively. Even yours looked fine to me as you were cutting the grass. But if you wanted me to hear noise from the deck, well, you were playing music. How can we take you seriously? My is fine. Glad I bought it.
I have a RZT 50 that I bought the spring of 2007 and it has the Kawasaki engine. I change the fuel filter, oil and filter beginning of every spring. I have a acre yard to mow and I have used most premium gas you can buy since I bought this mower. I have never had to replace anything but the belts and a couple front tires and that was my fault from banging them into our landscape limestone borders. I bought this property in the winter of 2006 and I called a friend from another state that his own landscape and mowing company. I asked what kind of mower to buy and any other advice he said make sure you buy one with a Kawasaki motor and use the most premium gas and change the oil frequently. I have done all that and 15 years later my cub cadet is as good as the day I bought it. I do keep the air filter clean and change the spark plugs every few years. I would buy another again I bought it from Home Depot and it was $2800 or $2900.
Probably a stupid question but, If you bought a Ultima ZT2 from Home Depot , would it be the same Ultima ZT2 you would buy from a dealer/farm equipment dealership?
Glad I watch video was fixing to buy this mower between mine and my parents about 8 acres a week I definitely want be buying a cub.. how can a zero turn not be able to cut more than a couple acres a week Thanks for the video
Tommy Johnson. It comes down to service life, how long do you want it to last? If you drive your car 500 miles a day how long will it last vs driving 5 miles a day. These mowers are designed with about a 300 hr service life, which is equivalent to a car having say 150,000 miles on it. Can a car go longer with good maintenance? Sure but it’s going to cost you. For example a full on commercial machine is designed to see 3000 hours.
The cub cadet rep in the video looked like he could care less about a vibrating deck cuz it’s expected. His lack of not caring is unacceptable. Your mower might be sitting up at head quarters like he stated but that’s it, it’s just gonna sit there. Cub cadet is just about selling mowers that cut grass, period. I would’ve gave them the keys & told them to keep them. I never heard of a mower being used just one time a week. Me personally I double cut some times. Thanks for sharing your videos on the cub Cadet but the reliability & customer service gives me red flags. I hope the machine works out great for you.
I hope it works out too. It's starting to not look like it though. My hands were shaking and numb after this last mow. The vibration is ridiculous! It's not an isolated issue, lol. I'm sure the old one went straight to the trash without any cares given.
G4 Outdoors Oh man I’m sorry to hear this. Try getting a pair of “Hyper Tough” work gloves from Walmart for about $10. They should help with the numbness of the hands. As for your old mower your probably right. Lol
I love our Ultima ZT1! I named it Sunshine (Sunny for short) and I mow with it freaking everywhere in our yard, the pastures, the barnyard, etc. I know he doesn't like the stuff that we call "Miner's Lettuce". No vehicle with wheels likes that stuff. I had to use the winch on our ATV to pull Sunny out of a patch of it because it was just too slippery. I was thinking of maybe temporarily putting an old pair of tire chains on the mower and see if he could get better traction on it. (Even our front end loader with tracks doesn't like that grass!)
"The ZT1 is only designed for ONE acre" I have a pair of scissors that's only designed to cut a single 8x11 page. Totally out of luck if you have a legal or tabloid size piece of paper, or more than one sheet of letter size paper. I have a knife that only cuts watermelon. Won't even put a dent in a cantelope, an orange, an apple, ... Really bizarre how manufacturers can make products restricted to such odd limitations.
TasteMyStinkhole it comes down to the service life. That machine has a designed service life of about 300 hours. A 1 acre or less lawn will take 10 or more years to hit 300 hours. 3 acres of lawn, that machine will hit 300 hours in about 5 years. It’s equal to owning a car with 150,000 on it. Will most cars make it to that and past with good maintenance? Yes but it will cost you money to do so.
@@hometowndiy9109 Wholly sheetzu, fantastic explanation. This is a moment to be celebrated. It is extremely rare that I learn something from a TH-cam comment. 🤔😯😃🤯🤜🤛🤝🏆🥇💰🧻💯
you should always be full throttle when you engage your clutch a clutch is electric so the more amps it won't burn the clutch out huge difference between commercial mowers in the mower you have
Early cubs were tanks and rarely a problem. When zero turns became popular Cub got on the band wagon but never incorporated high quality components. Spinals assemblies were second rate as were metal thicknesses in most areas. I had a ZTR and sold it within months of ownership...loud as hell and cut was not impressive. Two improvements I did make were to change blades to mulch and high lift blades and changed the seat springs. I ended up buying a Simplicity Stallion made by Ferris and that was the best move I've ever made when it comes to quality, noise level, comfort over rough terrain and a seat with suspension that is the ultimate of comfort. Spend the extra money for a good machine or put up with an inferior product. I mow 5 acres and look forward to the next cutting.
These are good zero turn lawn mowers but remember to balance your blades after sharpening or when you bought a new mower if the deck vibrates when the blades are engaged. I have seen brand new blades not balanced and those things can cause a nasty vibration. Go slow over rough terrain and you'll get a nicer cut too, plus your back will thank you too.
Not try it's electric so full throttle they're not talking about Grandpa's John Deere music commercial mowers so full throttle full amp so that you don't burn the clutch up
Huge difference betweena commercial mower and the mower you have so when I'm mowing at 11 miles an hour I promise you my neck and my back are not getting beat up and it has nothing to do with the speed it's the revolutions of the blade how fast can your blade spin that's what cuts bahia better
Been told my many small engine mechanics that most zero turns should be ran at their full speed because that is how the engine is coooled. The higher the Speed, the more air is pulled across the engine to keep it cool. Obviously, the slower the rpms, the less air gets pulled over the engine causing the engine to run hotter. I have noticed with my 23.5 Kohler on my zero turn that it does run hotter at 3/4 throttle than full throttle.
Jay Hall I agree with not buying first runs for the most part. I was part of a social media marketing team that received this last year pre-release. I bought it at a price no one could pass up. I’m happy with the new mower I received!
@@g4outdoors I have a ZT1 50" and love it so far. Only 10hrs, but mows awesome. Your biggest complaint is the deck vibrations. Mine doesn't have that vibration and I feel like this mower is getting a bad wrap for the very few mowers that do have the vibration. What is your opinion minus the vibration?
@@tonyc9912 I love my mower other than the vibration, if I can finally get the vibration solved fully I will be very happy with it all around. Now I'm disappointed and not enjoying it to the fullest..
@@tonyc9912 absolutely love it. Its just fast enough, it's comfortable, I like the lapbar adjustability, I like how far and well it disperses the grass. I will be putting better blades on it to try and improve the cut quality. OH, and I'm starting to have a drive motor issue. At intermittent times, one or the other drive motors will not engage. It doesn't do it all of the time, but there is something going there.
Buy from a dealer for sure if you expect warranty of any kind There having so problems with valve train on the k engine and it hard to get them to replace it
I’m looking for my first zero turn mower and fell in love with the look of the ZT1 50. After watching all your vids, thank you for sharing btw, I’m really gun shy about it. I have about 3/4 of an acre so the 50 inch is over kill but I want one so I’m going to buy a zero turn. I am now looking at the Arens as well. It has the 52 fab deck with the kaw 23 horse on it. It just doesn’t look as nice as the ZT1. Any direction and or help would be appreciated by you or anyone else that is knowledgeable about these zero turns. $3,000 is a lot of money for a mower and I finally got the wife sold on it but if it is breaking down all the time she might just divorce me (tongue in cheek, I think...)
Thank you for replying! I was actually just looking and researching the Ariens 52. After actually seeing it, sitting on it and really giving it a mean mug, I really like it. I think I’m going to get it by this weekend. Kinda feel like a little kid waiting for Christmas! Do you know if you can get the xl tires on the x?
Mitch Brinkman Not a clue. More than likely, that’s just the way they come. The only options is the motor. A 18hp Kawi, or a 23 hp Cohler. I like kawi’s, but I chose the 23hp. (Insert a Tim Allen grunt here) 🤣.
Engaging your blades at full RPM is the WORST thing you can do half throttle at most, it's hard in spindles, clutch, belts and pulleys to engage at full RPM . That Rep is an idiot
Phillip Kuhn Did you go watch the original video on Cut & Clean channel? I didn’t edit it to look like anything, I just cut the fluff out of it. I think I just bought my last Cub. Sad to say.
@@g4outdoors yes my buddy just bought one, he likes it so far I'm sorry you had that issue. That line about RPM was in your video as well. I've been in the commercial mowing world since 2006 and have always lived by that rule and its served me well.
Phillip Kuhn alot of mowers you actually are supposed too engage at max rpm. It actually has no impact on spindles and belts. The clutch compensates for it. I own 2 gravely ztr’s. One you engage at max rpm, the other at minimum. Usually your non commercial requires max rpm because of lack of torque, and clutches with less clamping force
Can you explain what the "for acreage means" Does that mean you can mow that specified acreage before running out of gas? If so why would that be a limiting factor? For me I don't mind getting the gas and refilling. I have a 1980 John Deere riding mower that has a 2 gal gas tank and have under an acre total and I usually have to fill up once for the back yard and once for the front.
@@stevemolnar4222 I'm pretty satisfied with the way things turned out. If you're not actually looking for it, you will never know its there, unless you get one of the really bad ones. I'm sure those models have already been sold and cycled through. The 3 year warrantee is hard to beat.
Dude your deck looks smooth as silk now, mine has been repaired and has greatly improved but not as smooth as yours is now. I had the same situation at first of being told to run with it it's normal lol! I agree the average person won't give it a second look they will just roll with it till parts fail. I told Cub numerous times that the spring seemed to loose and they sent all new spindles, bearings and blades but no spring. Yours is way tighter than mine and I'm gonna ask for a spring after seeing yours. My idler still bounces but it's not hammering like before. I think for a 3k mower that deck should run like a clock, we shouldn't have to spend 10k to get a smooth deck. I will say the overall design and riding experience is fantastic and the cut quality has been amazing in my yard. Thanks slot for the video!! Thumbs up 👍👍
@Steve Molnar I pick up my new ZT2 50" about 2 months ago I have about a little bit over one acre and I got to tell you I love this machine I totally recommend to anyone I don't have any issues with the deck vibration what so ever so if you planning to get one I recommend 👍
2RCPRODUCTIONS It’s definitely smoother running than before. I’m glad they took care of me like they did. You are in the same situation as us, I don’t think others will be treated with the same “urgency?” As us unfortunately.
I have 250 hours in 2 years on my zt1 50" that I use commercially. It has paid for itself 3x over now and still going strong with no major issues. It has had deck vibration from day 1.
I actually sold my ZT1 because of quality control issues. It was making my arms numb from the horrible vibrations. My next mower was an Ariens Apex 60”. LOVED IT!! I had to give that back to Ariens because they only allowed me to demo it for a year. I miss it. Last year I got a Toro 54” with MyRide. LOVE IT! Unless Cub owned up to the problems with the first year run of the ZT models, I’d definitely stay away from them. The Ariens is a tank of a mower, and so is their sister company, Gravely. The Toro is a very comfortable machine and has a really good cut. There are a couple of mowers that I would really like to test out that I think would be solid machines as well. Scag, a little overpriced but has amazing cut quality. Spartan, probably the most overbuilt mower on the market. I’ll be testing one this year!! (IF) Cub has fixed the vibration issues that a ton of people experienced in the first year of production, it was a very comfortable mower with very high blade speed, it looked cool, the controls were comfortable. I really enjoyed it until it started to rattle itself apart on me. I’m probably making it worse on ya now 🤣. Happy shopping Charles!!
Thank you for the long thought out response. I want to buy from local hardware store that has been around for over 60 years. Great bunch of sons took it over from there father. They sell Cub, ExMark and small Honda walk behinds. I think they used to sell small Toro walk behinds. If they do, I'll see if they can get one of the zero turn riders in. I know ExMark is a good one but I'd like to stay under 3600 dollars if I can. I like the fact that cub has an optional all season plow/blade. I don't know if the other two do. I got a long driveway and it would be nice to use in the loosened gravel after a heavy rain washout. You mentioned that the Cub vibration had been engineered out. Maybe the 2021 models might be okay then. I tried chatting with them online today but when it got to MY turn, it said "you're next", " transferring". That lasted for a half hour until I closed out the chat. Wish me luck and thanks again.
My machine ( I've only mowed 3 times 1.5 - 2 acre ) is not having vibrating issue . I think you guys are being nitpicky . My old mower was a Yard Machine tractor . Perhaps you should mow a few times with that . Then go back to this one .
Not being picky at all. I'm getting so much shit with people not knowing how this thing actually vibrates. My hands were numb from the last mow from its vibrations. I've mowed with the best and I've mowed with some real crap mowers. None of them vibrated like this one. I really like everything about it, but,,,,,,, It has good speed, it's comfortable, it's fairly fast, The motor is a beast for this size of this mower, it clears grass from the shoot extremely well, it needs different blades, but I just can't get past the vibrations on this one.
I am thinking of buying a used 2018 46" zero turn Cub Cadet from my sister. It has 337 hrs on it. She wants 1200. is this a good buy? Don't want to invest this and have to buy a new one soon. Your opinion please.
purchased this exact mower in dec 2019, have 9.6 hrs on it. NO vibration! smooth and quite! excellent cut, couldn't be happier. Would purchase another one tomorrow. (update) 5/4/2022...Almost 3 years now and STILL loving it! NO PROBLEMS at all!
Enjoy it
I concur
I bought mine 4 days ago, 54” and has kohler 22hp motor and LOVE it...super smooth, nice cutting, zero complaints. I mowed my entire street the first day i brought it home, then mowed an acre of tall grass the next day, still no problems...feels solid as a rock to me 😉👍
Update mine is on third year . Deck is fuking up . Hope dealer can fix if under warranty
wow ! 👌
Curious to know how it help up since then
@@NATEDIZZLE413 it will soon start vibrating. Mine just started this week at 54 hrs . Up until now i couldn’t have asked for a better mower
Shoulda got the zt2 for that much cutting. You're gonna most likely have issues. Too much for the 2200 hydros.
I have a 42 and use mine every day , couldn't afford one of those expensive ones , got about 520 hours on it . great machine
Third season mowing 1.75 acres with a ZT1 2-3 week, absolutely fantastic machine.
You should back off the throttle before engaging the pto, then throttle back up. Throttle down when disengaging the pto also. This reduces the load on the deck and engine. I don’t care what the rep says.
Sam Holladay I’m missing some notifications for some reason. I completely agree!
Exactly
👍Sam- low RPM for deck engagement and disengage. Belts and clutch WILL last longer.
Exactly, did the rep promise to come fix it when it breaks?
I like to hear others are having good experiences with theirs. I sure wish I had one of the good ones. It was very fun and comfortable to ride.
I have one of these, in my second season. It has had no issues that weren't caused by my own abuse/neglect. My ground is rough, with tons of rocks. This is the first mower I've used that I believe will hold up long term
Got the ZT1 54” and never had an issue. Maintenance is a breeze and it cuts like a champ
Sounds like you got lucky, or they have meshed out all of the problems I had.
G4 Outdoors yeah, maybe there’s a difference between the Home Depot 50” and the Tractor Supply 54” 🤷🏻♂️
I have this mower and it leaves 2 strips of grass in the middle
Any advice?
Yep- max revs - engage PTO and take off- sure it will shudder a bit. I've had no problem - never had a problem with a belt - had three Cub Cadets including the new zero turn - do about 3 acres - some of it rough- NO ISSUES!
Mine does not vibrate at all. It was perfectly balanced. I love it!
Thank you! And yes very soon I’ll be buying better blades also.
We just bought one, do you need to register it, for the warranty ?
Absolutely! If not by the seller, then by you.
Not gonna lie, I love my ZT1 Ultima. It’s by far the best zero turn I’ve ever owned.
I agree , i have zero issues and the thing cuts great
Same mine was used for 35 residential houses all last year and only had one issue. A stick bounced between a belt and threw it off. I did a few upgrades and it’s ready for this year!!!
Just bought zt2😎😎
You may have never been on the Kawasaki skag zero turns, which I feel cuts a little better and runs a little smoother
My 50 zt1 at 165 hours just got it last fall and zero issues so far
Two years now in service with no vibration issue. Works flawlessly! A great machine worth the price.
It’s normal to have lemon

I keep getting a bunch of comments telling me to try the Hustlers. Maybe they’re on to something? Lol.

Curtis Pendergraph mine is very thirsty as well. Lol.

Get the optional rear fenders from cub cadet to solve your issue if it slings mud.. and they look great
I’m in the market for a good zero turn and I swear everybody has something bad to say about every brand I’ve looked up.
1:35 is the vibration from unbalanced blades? So when you take off all blades, does it still vibrate?
Marty that’s what I was thinking.
I kept waiting to hear that test, but ... nope, didn't even try it. Bet the tech didn't either.
Shopped around at big box stores. Decided to buy Kubota z231 rated for up to 2 - 4 acres, I have 3/4 acres. I'm very happy with my 42 inch 21.5 kawasaki kubota mower.
I started to get one.
Went with zt2 50

My current property us just under an acre and the ZT1 is perfect for me.
my property is 3.5 acres. i go full speed as much as possible to save time. i dont get stragglers until my blades are messed up. im actually really happy with mine. i never have issues with it
3 years and counting. Mower is still operating just fine. Just remember to sharpen those blades every so often and you'll be fine.
“Fairly isolated incident”. Typical sales rep excuse.
LOL Cub Cadet is owned by MTD, commercial or chain store bought doesn't matter they are all junk these days. 25 years ago cub cadet was primo....now they are absolute *JUNK* Even John Deer is going down the tubes as far as quality. I have a zt1 50. I had a site that's 6 Acres in size that I maintained twice per month for for 2 years. No issues.
I mowed 7 acres in 6 hours 3 foot high grass field and uneven ground. It did great. JS
WITH THIS MOWER U DID THIS LOL BULL
I recently bought a CC Z FORCE SX54. fIrst job was cutting knee high to hip high grass in some places due to a very wet spring here in Northern Ohio. 1 3/4 ACRES. Mower did real good. Problem I had was getting rid of 8 inch piles of cutting after. The Ultima is a lightweight mower.
Super lightweight.
Had a Cub cadet. Purchased from a Cub cadet dealer, not the crap sold at Home Depot. POS. Purchased an Exmark. Love it.
i agree, it seems lowes and home depot get seconds or something of the brand names. I bought my cub from a cub dealer and I love it.
FYI... it's the same crap. Just luck of the draw.
I purchased mine in 2022.. best mower I've had. I'm a woman who likes outdoor work and no non sense. This is a no nonsense mower.
I have 1 1/2 acres. My ZT1 50 is running great. Minimal vibrations. Could this be something that is caused by bad assembly? Just curious cause mine is running fine.
miamivice966 Very possible.
Keep posting your comments and make a video. Your words are being seen, believe me.
Bring it back to homedepot where u bought it. Are they gonna fix it for you?
My cub has been the best in my 70 plus years.
Yes great job throwing that grass out into the street where a motorcycle can slide out on it!!
I bought skag in 2015 ... I've never taken it back to the shop since the warranty lapsed (fuel line goromet not installed completely) have had no spindal problems and I replace my own belts
I’ve had no problems with my Ultima. I absolutely love it!
It’s a shame that this one has those problems for you.
They expect commercial grade in this price range.
Kurt Schreihart I’ll be completely honest, I use mine commercially and it has had no problems.
Mike Edge that was a nice size business! And ran with all residential? Nice.

I like to Cadets the one I have is a Troy-Bilt made by the same company MTD and it does awesome
@@g4outdoors I can adjust those but this is happening in reverse as well. And I don't see an adjustment for that.
Keith Schalmo I’ll look when I get home bud.
@@g4outdoors thanks. I called my dealer today and they came and got it hours later. Great to work with so far. I'll let you know the results.
Keith Schalmo Dealer support is the #1 factor in buying any mower! Yours sounds great!
I purchased a ZTX5 60 and wow a pro commercial mower at close to full speed. Cub Cadet has really stepped up.
I just bought one of these 3 weeks ago and the only thing i notice is the front left wheel squeeks. Heard other people that had that problem as well. These mowers are selling like hot cakes this year. My dealer cant keep them in stock.
Never had any issues with my kubota. No vibration either. I mow 2 acres every week and have been for the last 3 years and no issues.
I purchased a z force s last year and absolutely love it. I prefer the steering wheel over the lap bars. Just my opinion. But looking forward to your follow up video on your ultima. They are bad ass looking mowers!!!
Rodney Decker There is a card in this video for part 2 in case you don’t catch it when I release it. Thanks for commenting!
I thought they just forgot mines just bought one 4 days ago lol
I’m positive that I won’t have a chance to work with Cub again 🤣. I hope that they have fixed the issue because it really was a comfortable mower.
Wow, what did you end up replacing it with.
Slippery Blue Clay Kubota Diesel.
I just bought the ZT1-42 inch for my one acre yard.Deck vibration is BS no such thing, so far very happy!
Crazy.
I have had my Big Dog mower 54 inch cut for 6 years with no problems what so ever! Has a Kawasaki FX691V motor with plenty of power.
I would love to have a sub compact tractor if my property allowed it!
Thanks for the video! I've seen several vibrating deck videos for this model (my wife would love to have this option, but not so much for me)...Will switch my research back to Gravely and JD
I think this might be the mower to have when they work out their flaws. This first production run just isn't cutting it for me.
My deck runs fine. I don't feel any abnormal vibration.
I bought a 1984 782. diesel cub cadett it is a great mower is love it
I bought mine 3 years ago love it
I’m pretty sure you DID NOT buy yours 3 years ago.
Ive owned mines for 1 year no problems
You’re not supposed to be past 50% throttle when you engage the PTO, most mowers will act erratically if you do this.
My new Toro Timecutter 60" has a decal on the dash that says "Place throttle here (3/4 throttle) when engaging pto"...🤷♂️
Probably a stupid question but, If you bought a Ultima ZT2 from Home Depot , would it be the same Ultima ZT2 you would buy from a dealer/farm equipment dealership?
Steve Molnar Same mower. You will have better luck buying from your local dealer for repairs though.
Glad I watch video was fixing to buy this mower between mine and my parents about 8 acres a week I definitely want be buying a cub.. how can a zero turn not be able to cut more than a couple acres a week Thanks for the video
Thanks for watching and commenting! I JUST uploaded my 3 mont review. th-cam.com/video/F7i0Hinpu3c/w-d-xo.html
Question...What did you mean by you can't do anything about dandelions? Push mowers cut dandelions. I watched the mow. How is that dandelion standing?
Dandelions have a tendency to lay over and not get cut. I just wanted everyone to know that there would still be some standing before hand.
"The ZT1 is only designed for ONE acre"
I have a pair of scissors that's only designed to cut a single 8x11 page.

Wholly sheetzu, fantastic explanation. This is a moment to be celebrated. It is extremely rare that I learn something from a TH-cam comment. 🤔😯😃🤯🤜🤛🤝🏆🥇💰🧻💯
I have the zt1 54 inch. On my 3rd season, great mower, no issues
you should always be full throttle when you engage your clutch a clutch is electric so the more amps it won't burn the clutch out huge difference between commercial mowers in the mower you have
Early cubs were tanks and rarely a problem.
I wish I looked forward to it as much as I use to. The shits of it is, I really like this mowers feature and comfort.
34.5 hours on a ZT 1 with a Kow motor. No probs. Ever! Good luck with that argument.
cub cadet. owned several of them. never again!
Shane A Same. My first zero turn was a Cub Cadet...that was a mistake🤮
Owned just one. NEVER ever again for me.
Good point. Most dealers sell a balance cone.
full RPM deck engagement? No wonder their stuff doesn't hold up.. common sense tells me that the more power involved, the more stress on parts.
So you build it better. Not complitated.
There is no evidence the unite will not hold up with full rpm engagement. You made that part up.
@@kevinhawkinberry3654 haha, are you spying on me, how do you know what mower I have? The mower in this video is not a commercial mower.
First production run of this mower,,never buy the first production run!! 2nd run will be available in mid June, hopefully bugs will be taken care of.
Better yet don’t buy one. Period.
Did vibration issue get fixed if so what was the problem
I have the ZT1 with the Kawasaki engine, at 2.5" it deals with K31 quite well, It is tough grass to cut actually
Buy from a dealer for sure if you expect warranty of any kind
There having so problems with valve train on the k engine and it hard to get them to replace it
I bought a Cub Cadet 54" ultima ZTX4, and yep mine has vibration,
Should make a video of how to get rid of weeds that yard is perfect 😂
Mitch Brinkman I will be getting an Ariens X42 in a couple of days to demo. Plenty of comparison videos and demo videos coming up!
@@g4outdoors Thanks, because I plan on buying either the ZT2 50, Hustler Rapture, Ariens, or the Husqvarna Garden Tractor.
@@g4outdoors I like the John Deere, but not a fan of the 18hp. Sales rep told me it's all about the torque.
When I move my handles back or forth it makes a roaring noise. What is that problem?
I have a Scag Freedom Z and engage at full throttle every time.
Maybe I'll try the reduced throttle next time and see.
Why you steal my name? Lol
I have to put myn at full blast just to use the choke that can not be good on the engine when it fires up.
I don’t like doing that because it heats the motor up too quick in my opinion, but most of them require full throttle with choke to start.
I isolated the problem and bought a Lazer-Z
lol.
Lol great decision!
Hahaha! Very funny!
That’s great for the people who want to spend $6000+
@@JarvisOutdoors better than spending 3k on a fancy troy bilt.
I am looking to pull the trigger on a ZT2 50 and excessive vibrating deck has me worried.
Also , I have 1.5 Acres , Thought ZT2 50 was built just for this?
Should pull blades and check balance
What's gonna wear your spindle bearings is that they dont have grease incerts.
( "Zerks" )
And why don’t they? That’s my question to them.
Even if it does have grease zerks i bet you a thousand bucks that the bearings are sealed. Take a spindle apart one with grease fittings.
@@OUMagMan believe it or not that's not actually the proper name for those. "Zerk" is a brand name.
Generically they're just 'grease fittings'.
Since you sold your Cub, what are you personally using now to mow your yards? And was it a good bit of difference?
