I expect this mower will last several seasons with decent care. th-cam.com/users/postUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend Also, I ran across the problem with it not starting the 2nd time I used it. There is a safety switch which is pushed in by the chute or mulching piece being attached to the deck. I took the cover off and it wouldn't start. Put it back on, no problem. It takes only a minute with 2 easily accessible wingnuts and no tools. This mower starts up first crank each time and it is a joy to use. It also mows in reverse by putting the key to the reverse area after starting and pushing in the triangular button. It will stay in reverse mode until you turn it off. All in all, for my homeowner needs, I really like this mower-and at 70 bucks a cut here in Miami, it's already more than 1/3 paid for itself in a month.
I have a 2019 Cub Cadet Ultima ZT1 (42”) and mow 2 acres. It cost $2800 “out the door”. The LED lights and tow hitch are a nice feature. Didn’t see it on the Arians. I’ve gotten late starts mowing and it’s nice being able to finish the job when it gets dark. I occasionally need to pull a small yard trailer to pick up sticks or move mulch around the yard too so the standard hitch is nice. The Ultima sits up higher also and gives you a better perspective on the yard. My 42” deck doesn’t move like the 50” deck you demonstrated. BTW the Ultima has much better “curb appeal” also.

I think these guys just don’t like cub cadet. They’re picking dumb stuff to compare. Arm rests? The mower being kinda loud?? And big boy was running wide ass open on a bumpy yard and talking about the deck bouncing. Well no crap. Look how the ariens deck was dipping into all the holes they were cutting through. Very uneven cut. My zt1 50 leaves a beautiful cut in my less than ideal yard.
@@jacobs6865 I feel the same way, seems they are against the cub cadet more than just for the other mower. I bought an Ariens IKON X 52 - one of my best decisions ever. I mow approximately 5 acres of lawn and horse paddocks. I also have a lot of fruit trees and grape arbors to go around. It's no longer a chore, now I love to mow!
I purchased the Cub Cadet ZT1 54 inch with a Kohler 24 horse 2 weeks ago 3499.00. It cuts great, runs great I have tried to find fault in it but it just works great. I leveled the deck side to side and front to back. The only thing is that it did not come with a hour meter. It's wired for one that I had to purchase separately. At least it was wired for one and the install was easy. Great video. Also, we have a 15 thousand dollar or more Toro zero turn at work. It doesn't cut any better than the Cub Cadet.
I've been nursing my 14 year old Cub Cadet LT1050 26 HP mower for the last several years and putting off going with a new zero turn mower. Honestly, as far as ride, power and cut the old Cub Cadet is hard to give up. I do keep sharp Gator blades on her for an awesome cut. Anyway, repairs are getting to be more and more and I've decided to bite the bullet and get the new one. I have actually narrowed my search down to either a new Cub Cadet zero turn or an Ariens zero turn, probably 52 inch. Thanks for the video. I think you've helped me make my decision.
I just purchased a Ariens ikon xl60. I wanted to upgrade from my Cub cadet rzt 42". I looked at the Cub cadet Ultima 60" and it retailed for $4999 plus tax. I then called my local Arien dealer and they told me they had a 2019 arien ikon xl60 with 0 hours for $3499 plus tax. It just made common sense to buy the Arien. And after watching this video I'm glad I did!!!! Thanks!!!
Thanks for your video, I just bought a cub cadet 54inch, $3000.00, so far I’m happy with it and I can see the great cutting that the Arenas dose at cutting grass, now the cub I have ordered arm rest, I do wish it had come with it but ok with that, the one thing you did leave out is what you have to go through to sharpen the blades, I’ll look into arenas but the cub they say you have to disconnect he mower deck, well I’ll see about that when the time comes, today is only the second time I have mowed my 1.78 acre yard, so any way thanks again.
Bought a Cub Cadet ZT1 Ultima 50" a few months ago. As for the cutting quality, mine does a beautiful job. Maybe your deck wasn't leveled properly? Hands down, the Cubby is the best looking mower out there. Badass tubular frame construction, beefy back tires, great colors, and a super comfy seat. It also has adjustable lap bars, a deck wash system, and headlights, things the Ariens doesn't have. If you check out the reviews, it has way better reviews from the owners. For me, it's Cub Cadet all the way!
Good choice alot people bash cub cadet but they really stepped up their game! Generally you cant go wrong with either of these beasts aslong as you like it that's really all that matters👍🏻
Just bought the Ultima ZT1 54". Like riding a Cadillac cutting grass on 4 acres now! The seat is second to none and the controls are smooth! Ordered the fenders for it but after going through our roadside ditch that still had water in it after the ran the night before, i was impressed that the open no fender machine didn't sling muddy water on the engine or frame or me! The cleanup after finishing the yard was super easy, the aeroforce deck has no places on it where grass clippings build up like our previous machine! The only thing I noticed was a build up of grass clippings on each side of the battery under the seat, but an air hose quickly remedies that situation on cleanup!
Read the assembly pamphlet. The lap bars on the Ariens are indeed adjustable and it should be easy to add a couple of headlights (holes already exist). Hell, even drilling a hole in the deck for a deck washing adapter should be simple enough for most.
I originally bought a ZT1 50" and the deck was way off in terms of correct height along with it not being properly leveled. So I spent almost an hour making sure the blades were actually cutting at 4" which is where I had the dial set. I then returned the ZT1 for a ZT2 and it was spot on right out of the box.
I get that too...but I love my Cubby...never let me down yet...yea some bumps you have to go a little slower on to get that smooth cut, that I have noticed too..thanks for the review, I agree with just about everything you said...
I have a ZT1 42", with the mulch kit. I wasn't happy with the cut. So, I bought a set of Gator blades. I sharpened, & balanced them before installing. Now, I'm very happy with the cut! These blades make all the difference.
You failed to mention the lights on the Cub. I often mow after dark and that's an added feature I like on the Cub. They are both impressive. Thanks for the demo.
I had an Ariens two stage snowblower for seventeen years when I sold my house up north. It was still perfect in every aspect and it was a beast of a machine that performed amazing feats and hardly felt like it was working.
I bought an Ikon X 42 with the Kawasaki engine at the beginning of summer after looking at a number of reviews. It's my first zero-turn, but after a full season of cutting at home, I am so glad that I got the Ariens. I love it! Great video guys!
Dan Peterson do you have any issues with the 18hp kawi? Power wise/maintenance wise? Deciding between the 22hp kohler and the 18hp kawi in the ikon x 42
I just bought a Cub Cedet Z-1 50” deck and love it . I’ve got an acre that I mow and my Cub does a great job , it also cuts great ! I wouldn’t be afraid to buy the Cub Cedet .
thank you . you made up my mind for sure The Ikon X 42 will be my first Zero turn mower. I was looking at the cub cadet ZTI. I am glad I took the time to watch your video.
I bought a Ariens ikon x 52" with the Kawasaki engine I love it I have 1.5 acres I mow and get it done with no hassle.only thing I've done to it is change out the blades. Keep it regular maintenance on it. Runs flawlessly
My philosophy has always been ALWAYS listen to the Pros! I have done A LOT of research and after viewing your video my Ariens 52” Ikon will be delivered this Saturday. Ikon vs Cub to me is like comparing a tank to a jeep. Great video guys! Take care!
I noticed you cut the grass on a flat surface. Did you try either mower on inclines or hilly yards? I am curious on the stability of the front part of the mower. Does the front raise up when mowing on an incline? The bigger tires looks like it would help with this issue. Your thoughts please
Great vid, thanks guys!! I'm actually looking at these very 2 mowers (both the 42"). The Ariens 2022 Ikon does have bigger back tires but is there a mechanical reason that's better? I think current/2022s, there's like a $400 difference between the 2 mowers (both being 42"). Wonder if the $400 difference is worth it. I have a 5 year old Gravely XT42 (same company as Ariens) and, with normal use, under 1 acre residential, the two points at the front frame, the welding came undone and broke. It has zero rust and no mishaps. Gravely was like [sorry to be you] when we called them, so this makes me feel guarded about getting an other from that company. I mean, of all things, the frame shouldn't just come undone like that.
I like the thinking about the smaller deck. Any thoughts on the smaller deck as it relates to getting next to obstacles. Leaning towards buying on of the IKON's as my first 0 turn. On my lawn tractor I like the deck wide enough to stick out from the tires to allow me to get it up next to tree trunks or under the edges of hedges.
I'm starting my second full season of mowing with a Cub Cadet Ultima zt1 50. When I got it I hated the cut of it. I told my father in law how much I regretted the purchase. But it was too late. So I finished up that year and mowed all of last year with a ugly sub par cut. Pretty much having to cut the yard twice every time I cut. Anyhow I was watching TH-cam videos and I cannot remember which creator it was but they showed how to ensure that your deck was level and how to level it. I assumed that it was set correctly either by the factory or the Cub Cadet dealer but what I found was the rear left side was an inch higher and the right side was 3/4" too high. So I leveled the deck up and now I am totally satisfied with the cut. It has made all the difference. But if given a choice between the 2 mowers in question in this video I'd definitely pick the Ariens even if it were a smaller cut.
Nice, I started my business with a ikon x 52, then upgraded to a grasshopper. Ariens makes a good machine for the price. I sold it to family who still mow around the farm with it.
I have owned the Gravely ZTX 42 for 2 years now. 320hrs on the machine to date. Used for about 40+ properties. It's a beast of a machine even though it's not classified as a "commercial-grade" unit. It will climb a hill and stripe well! I'm amazed at its dependability and durability. If the residential class is this good, I'm excited to see what their commercial units will do. Few upgrades I've done to mine is 1) Advanced Cute System, chute blocker from Ballard-Inc. [$200] and 2) Drainz-It hose kit [$20] for easier oil changes. Have had to replace the deck belt [$40] twice and had transmission belt come loose one time. Other than that its an outstanding mower!!! Highly recommend and will buy another Gravely unit in the future.
I bought a Ariens 34 zoom (residential) and used it to run a residential lawn care business. I was worried using a non-commercial mower. I used it for almost 5 years mowing 4-5 days a week. Rarely ever had an issue. It was a beast. I could never say a bad word about a residential mower used for commercial work that stood up to abuse for years.
It looks like changing the oil and filter on the Ariens would be more difficult. I would like to see a comparisons between the blade changing between the two. The Cub's deck is floating, it appears the Ariens deck is fixed. So how well do they handle bums and hills?
I have a new IKON 52 and it is the best mower I have ever owned, I cut about an acre and love it, solid, great cut. I think the deck rpms are what gives it a great cut. my 52 has a Kawasaki engine.
@@MichaelTaylor-lk8fh That's a great question! If you have a flat yard with fewer obstacles, you'll want to take advantage of the massive time savings our 52-inch model offers. If you have more obstacles, or some sharper grades that a 52-inch model can't navigate as easily, the 42-inch might be best. In any case, your local Ariens dealer will be able to guide you in the right direction: www.ariens.com/en-us/dealer-locator
Few years later and hoping this helps me make my decision this coming spring. Was nearly sold on the CC- but if Ariens ZT mower is anything like the snow blower I own, I might just lean that way.
I've ran Ariens snow blowers my whole life. My friend has this Ariens zero turn but in a 52" with a 23hp Kawasaki motor. I'm sure I'm going to buy the same machine this spring. We cut 3 acres three times because how thick it was the machine barely dogged down even when I hit the clumps of clippings with high grass. On one tank of gas as well. I don't have anything to say bad about either machine. Just have more experience with Ariens. Stay away from Kohler motors they're not built like they used to be.
Looking at ztr mowers have a pony know and have a pretty good size yard and after 6 years want to step up to a ztr and this video helps but still a little confused to many choices to sort through
I bought a Ariens ikon x 52" with the Kawasaki engine. I absolutely love it so glad I got it. I'm a home owner with 2.5 acres and my ikon eats it up with no problem best investment I've made
Only thing I've done is change oil whenit's time. I keep track of it. And changed the blades and had to adjust the steering once that took me about 10 minutes
@@lantznewberry4497 depends if we get alot of rain then of course cant now grass grows more. Got it stuck once and once was enough lol. Usually about 45 minutes
Smaller decks tend to cut better because the deck always attacks the surface in a straight line. The more you extend that line the more likely the deck will miss something on uneven terrain. You should compare mowers with similar deck sizes. Also many mower lines use the same engine for multiple deck sizes. A 24 HP on a 42" cuts better than a 24 HP on a 60"
I have a old Ariens and it is a 42 inch cut and it has two 5 gallon gas tanks and I have had no trouble with it but my Cub Cadet is on its second motor
I purchased my Ariens ikon 60 after watching this video. Hands down it's the best mower for the money I've ever used. I'm 250 lbs n 6 ft 8. It fits me comfortably enough and cuts great. To the point I'm not having to use my brush hog as much on my tractor. Highly recommend the ikon mower handles down.
I was having some cut issues with my zt2 I started looking over things and found the tires were way over inflated!! Side wall of the tires in the rear state inflate to 10psi and front I believe is 22psi. When i checked them rear tires were at 25psi and fronts at 30psi. I set them to what the tires state and cut and ride quality improved! Something just to check on the zt1 you guys are using.
I went with the Airens Apex 52" with Kawasaki. I cut 4 acres in 2.1 hours, 2 acres used to be a golf course, all the neighbors chip in and cut behind our respective properties to keep the critters away. Amazing cut quality. Cuts 2' tall grass before it begins to show signs of bogging down
I have the ariens ikon x 52 I really like it as for the back tires I upgraded mine to a larger and wider tires which will fit on the stock rims that made a big difference on hills and slopes. It’s my 2nd season with this mower and it has a high quality cut. My cousin uses this mower in his business and cuts 65 yards a week and has had no problems with it.
Chris Jennings I upgraded the font casters to the xl model ones watch this video I did the same upgrades except the longer deck mounts. th-cam.com/video/HsbHQbfSbUU/w-d-xo.html
I just bought the Cub Cadet 42 in Ultimate ZT1. I love this mower it is built solid an the frame is guaranteed for life. The motor is unlimited hrs for 3 years.
I own the Ikon XL 52. The grass chute lasted about four hours of mowing, I have seen several complaints about this very thing. If you turn left the chute binds hangs up and breaks. They don't last long. The reason I bought the Ikon XL 52 is the hydro static drive is the same you find on the most expensive commercial mowers which are serviceable and each have their own filter. The Ikon X-52 or the Cub Cadet doesn't have the better system, so good comparison. A problem for me on the Ikon XL 52 is, the deck lift pedal is to close to the seat and made it difficult for me to raise the deck so I made an extension that spaces between the linkage and pedal spacing the pedal away from me an additional 4". Even with my chute off the mower, It really doesn't seem to throw things badly
I have the Areins Ikon 52 and my deck moves just like the cub when I step on it . Plus it is a royal PIA to work on . A square hole under the oil filter wil eat your new filter or old filter when you take it off or put it on . Almost impossible to get out unless you take the side apart and still it is hard to get out. Just my two cents.
I know this is a earlier video, but it looks to me like you guys were into the Ariens a lot and I've been looking hard at this very same machine and at the price level and quality level - I too believe this one is a winner. Plus as you said it's all about the mow quality as well. TY for a great test and showing that a change sometimes can be better. BTW in 2021 they had some improvement as well and I'm glad to see anything that will make me be able to get more bang of my buck.
I researched and tested the two and i concur. The Ariens is a much better residential zero turn. I purchased the 52 inch model and love it. Thanks for your videos.
What would be a good ZT mower for trimming? I have lots of trees, etc that I need to mow around. Any ZT’s that have a large offset deck on the left for “reaching” into hard to get areas? Thanks for the reviews!
Try cutting bahai grass in south alabama with that ariens you'll have to run over it three times, I think all mower test should be done on bahai grass in the south where it's prevalent during July and August
That opening in the top of the Cub Cadet deck reminded me of the time I hit a heavy rubber dog toy and it spit out and hit the metal pole barn 30' away and put a 1' dent in the steel. It probably would have killed someone and the boom sure got my attention.
I would like to see these mowers compared to the latest 2021 Cub cadet ZT1-42E Electric mower for mowing quality and vibrations. i feel it would be better than these two models and make a lot less noise, too.
Any chance of comparing the ARIENS to a Husqvarna 42? Also any chance of looking at the bagging efficiency of these? I save the grass clipping so need to bag. THANKS!
You know what I love about the two of you guys? You have integrity! I love the level of detail you go into detailing the Pros & Cons of each machine. The both of you have a lot of experience with these types of machines. Your insight is PRICELESS! I can't thank you enough for the quality of your presentation. I just became a subscriber and gave you a thumbs up. Keep up the great work!!!
Great video- I have been researching ztr mowers for the last week and narrowed it down to these exact mowers as my Dixie Chopper finally bought the ghost. Thanks again for taking the time to compare the two- Ariens it is!
Good job on the review. The point on the blade when you lift the guard to get thru gates and around plants on the lawn ought to be an issue cub addresses quickly. Good job catching that. Another helpful tool in the decision process for me is to watch some repair videos on each unit to get an idea of how difficult common repairs are.i knew that tequila makes clothes fall off, didn’t know humidity did too. Another lesson learned.
Nice video. I noticed right off the bat that the Ariens mower deck wheels need to be adjusted down a bit. If not, the mower deck is going to scrape/scalp on uneven turf areas and moving from the turf area onto the driveways, etc. Otherwise, looks good!
A few years back I looked at Ariens and I liked thme a lot. Ultimately I went with a Simplicity though. And your dead right about the deck moving around, which is why I went with the Simplicity. That full width roller is where its at.
I have an Icon XL 42 I use for partial commercial & Love It,which is a Gravely,Botha are made off the same line, one painted orange & the other red.SWEET VLOG RANDY🤓👍
Love my ZT1. After watching some of this video I looked at my deck attachments. Your comments made me think it may not be reliable long term. Incompared it to a $600 more expensive John deere. Its a real simple design compared to the JD. It may lift on a side when a large fellow stands on it. I'm sure thats not really good for it either but just supporting its own weight I think it may have less issues in time than all the extra hardware and supports that the JD had. I didnt have an Ariens to compare it to. Another thing I read about is the armrest. Whats the big deal? Ive never felt the need for them. The only slight issue to me with the cadet is dangerous discharge hole. I love the simplicity in the cadet. Not a lot to go wrong and it looks great. The wheels and deck on most mowers look bad after a few seasons. These will be easy to clean up and should stay looking good. Its gonna be in your garage for 20 years right! Dont smaller mowers always cut better anyway btw?
@@brad0805 so, after having my own zero turn for some time now, I think you're right. Mine has it and I don't even think I use them. Kinda strange as I had at least three people recommend them. I think they're a bit low on my machine though which is why I don't use them.
My cub Ultima zt1 50" cuts great. Good stripes and I get A great cut even at full speed. The small tires on the arians turned me off. The cubs bigger tires make it better for side hill cutting. There is something wrong with this guys cub. Hopefully cub takes care of that problem
Just ordered my ZT1 50" last night with free shipping to the house. I hope mine is all good with no vibration issues. Warranty seems nice, 3 years for whatever and lifetime on deck and frame. Also, the 20" rear tires and bigger front tires will allow for a smoother ride than the Ariens.
@@moblackmoney3424 We have had our ZT1 50 for about 2 weeks now and guess what., no vibration or cutting problems! I can't keep my wife off of it.
I then returned the ZT1 for a ZT2 and it was spot on right out of the box.
spyderlady8 just bought the Cub a couple weeks back . I concur. Very happy with it
I get that too...but I love my Cubby...never let me down yet...yea some bumps you have to go a little slower on to get that smooth cut, that I have noticed too..thanks for the review, I agree with just about everything you said...
I bought the zt1 54 last may and I am very happy with it. The only thing I wish it had was a separate lever for the choke. Other than that no issues.
I have a ZT1 42", with the mulch kit. I wasn't happy with the cut. So, I bought a set of Gator blades. I sharpened, & balanced them before installing. Now, I'm very happy with the cut! These blades make all the difference.
Just bought a ariens apex 60 24hp kawasaki . looking forward to using it this spring
@@JamesWilliams-rl2io How did you like using your new Ariens?
You failed to mention the lights on the Cub. I often mow after dark and that's an added feature I like on the Cub. They are both impressive. Thanks for the demo.
Good thing I don't live next door to you.
@@RyanMiller3039 the half acre properties where I am are very close together too, so that would matter.
I had an Ariens two stage snowblower for seventeen years when I sold my house up north.
It was still perfect in every aspect and it was a beast of a machine that performed amazing feats and hardly felt like it was working.
Thanks for choosing the #KingOfSnow Bruce!
I cut with my chute bungeed up on my zt1 50 and it works great never had any issue all around
I just bought a Cub Cedet Z-1 50” deck and love it . I’ve got an acre that I mow and my Cub does a great job , it also cuts great ! I wouldn’t be afraid to buy the Cub Cedet .
Got a zt1/prices and function the best allrounder.
thank you . you made up my mind for sure The Ikon X 42 will be my first Zero turn mower. I was looking at the cub cadet ZTI. I am glad I took the time to watch your video.
How about you compare the zt1 42 to the arians 42, cause my zt1 42 is great
So far I’m very very impressed with my Zt2 !
ZT2 is definitely better than ZT1
I have 1 acre yard. After your review, I ordered ikon x52. Great video! Thank you!
I bought a Ariens ikon x 52" with the Kawasaki engine I love it I have 1.5 acres I mow and get it done with no hassle.only thing I've done to it is change out the blades. Keep it regular maintenance on it. Runs flawlessly
I just bought the 52 inch. I enjoyed the review will use the mower, you put my mind at ease.
After watching this video you made my decision so easy. I will definitly buy the cub cadet. Nice work boys!
It’s a good lookin mower
How does the price compare with same size deck as the cub?
Which one comes with a beer holder?
Just bought a ikon Xl 60 yesterday before I saw this video. It now confirms I made the right choice. Thank you guys for you review on both.
My philosophy has always been ALWAYS listen to the Pros! I have done A LOT of research and after viewing your video my Ariens 52” Ikon will be delivered this Saturday. Ikon vs Cub to me is like comparing a tank to a jeep. Great video guys! Take care!
i just got the 2023 ikon 52" and its absolutely amazing....Kawasaki 24 HP engine, bigger tires, led lights...best mower to date ive ever owned.
Have you checked out the bad boy zero turn mower?how about seat highs and side hilling? Thanks
I have a Ariens since 2017 and it's been a low maintenance mower cut is still perfect with original blades .
Thanks I'm buying the Arien icon x 52 today.
I have a Gravely ZT HD with the Kawasaki. The cut is excellent and it is incredible on slopes.
Thanks for doing this video, it helped me pull the trigger on the Ariens Ikon XD52 with the Kawi engine! Makes short work of my 1.5 acres.
Thank you for choosing Gravely!
My Ariens Ikon XD 42 is being delivered Friday. Glad the experts feel it's a good mower!
Great to hear, Bill! Thank you for choosing Ariens.
@@joeellis2692 Thanks so much for the info! Sadly it seems like nothing is build as they used to be- most everything is hit or miss these days.
Looking at ztr mowers have a pony know and have a pretty good size yard and after 6 years want to step up to a ztr and this video helps but still a little confused to many choices to sort through
Ive owned a Ariens XKON 52 inch for going on 5 years. Its not perfect but i love it
Don't forget that the CC has a hard-to-adjust seat... you have to get off and open the seat and unscrew knobs. The Ariens has a lever.
@@smokintruker27how long does it take to mow your enter acreage?
@@lantznewberry4497 depends if we get alot of rain then of course cant now grass grows more. Got it stuck once and once was enough lol. Usually about 45 minutes
Would love to see a running list of your 'Top 5 recommendations" (based on your opinion) for the average homeowner...
Plus, it would keep your subscribers coming back fairly often....
Grass hopper was a great mower when i had one . now i run a bad boy it kicks ass !
I got the 52 with kawasaki, it's awesome
I was having some cut issues with my zt2 I started looking over things and found the tires were way over inflated!! Side wall of the tires in the rear state inflate to 10psi and front I believe is 22psi. When i checked them rear tires were at 25psi and fronts at 30psi. I set them to what the tires state and cut and ride quality improved! Something just to check on the zt1 you guys are using.
Their over inflated for shipping, so whoever set up the mower didn't check it over very good.
Dustin Harden had the same issue on mine. Spoke to a rep at HD and he said check your air pressure as i bet it’s way to high and he was right.
I went with the Airens Apex 52" with Kawasaki. I cut 4 acres in 2.1 hours, 2 acres used to be a golf course, all the neighbors chip in and cut behind our respective properties to keep the critters away. Amazing cut quality. Cuts 2' tall grass before it begins to show signs of bogging down
Lust bought the '52 Ariens from Lowes, my first zero turn mower, and so far its been great first 2 cuts
Glad to hear it! thank you for choosing Ariens.
love my ikon x.....i installed a wash out port in it....wash it out everytime after i mow....still looks new underneath....built like a tank!
Not very good for your spindles
I have the ariens ikon x 52 I really like it as for the back tires I upgraded mine to a larger and wider tires which will fit on the stock rims that made a big difference on hills and slopes. It’s my 2nd season with this mower and it has a high quality cut. My cousin uses this mower in his business and cuts 65 yards a week and has had no problems with it.
Details on the upgrade?, size? Curious. Did you upgrade the front casters as well or just A-level the deck?
Chris Jennings I upgraded the font casters to the xl model ones watch this video I did the same upgrades except the longer deck mounts. th-cam.com/video/HsbHQbfSbUU/w-d-xo.html
We're glad you're enjoying your mower, Josh!
Have got the ikon x 42 it's got 37hr and blade are leaving stragglers and oil drain valve leaks. It is a good mower.
I have the XD 42...ADDED 2 LED's..., and a Farm Trac seat suspension system...makes all the difference.

Something to address next time.... I use the tractor to aerate and thatch pulling implements. How well do these ZTR’s pull ?
Thanks. In general, how do zero turn mowers perform on slopes?
Thanks for the info. Looking to purchase in the next couple of weeks and this video makes me look at Ariens in a whole different perspective.
I got my zt1 54” at tractor supply $3099.00 so far pleased with it haven’t tried an arins
Are you still happy with it?
This video sold me on Ariens... Bought one and I'm very satisfied.
Maybe I missed it but what type of blades does each have.
Manuel Driggs Thanks for the comment Manuel!
Great video- I have been researching ztr mowers for the last week and narrowed it down to these exact mowers as my Dixie Chopper finally bought the ghost. Thanks again for taking the time to compare the two- Ariens it is!
Hi Jon, thanks for choosing Ariens. Enjoy your new mower!
What’s that big yellow handle in the way on the Ariens. Clear difference between the two and not even mentioned.
Thanks for lots of great information. I have 3+ acres farm yard & field paths to mow. Now i need a comparison of the bad boy 54" to both of those.
This was super informative. You guys really answered a lot of questions that wouldn’t get answered when kicking tires at HD or Lowe’s.
After cutting with armrests you'll never go back
@@MeltingRubberZ28 If you are able to hold correct posture, you don't need the arm rests.
@@brad0805 so, after having my own zero turn for some time now, I think you're right. Mine has it and I don't even think I use them. Kinda strange as I had at least three people recommend them. I think they're a bit low on my machine though which is why I don't use them.
The ikon is starting to grow on me.... plus it's my favorite color .. two im sold nuggy go up in the series but for sure getting one!
That open hole on the cub cadet deck is commonly designed to help with lift/fees with bagging systems.

My cub Ultima zt1 50" cuts great. Good stripes and I get A great cut even at full speed. The small tires on the arians turned me off. The cubs bigger tires make it better for side hill cutting. There is something wrong with this guys cub. Hopefully cub takes care of that problem
Not just his mower. Lots of people are having issues with the scrub caddy
