i have a 2009-10 RZT 50VT…. this thing still runs like a champ at 840 hours i promise
I just won the ZT1 54” in a giveaway raffle for a local high school ag dept fundraiser. I spent 100 bucks on two tickets and was surprised when they called me to pick it up. Seems like a solid mower. Probably will last me the rest of my life at 60 years old lol. Hope so anyway. 🤞
Thats awesome! What a great machine to win. Hope you like your's as much as we do!
I got rid of the plastic seat bumpers and replace with 3 inch motorcycle seat springs barrel type. Totally worth it.
Great idea!
After 22 years on a 42" Craftsman rider with a 18.5hp Briggs, HARD plastic seat and stiff as heck steering, we bought our first ZT1 50" and I couldn't be happier. It's like driving a car with power steering. I see a number of people talking about swapping our the factory pads for springs, but having been beaten nearly to death on the Craftsman and HARD plastic seat, I would describe the Cub Cadet as luxurious. Thankfully, our yard is really flat and smooth with no obstructions like tree roots. I will be adding that seat cable soon to protect the seat from flopping all the way down to the deck cover.
The bearings in the spindles are very easy to change out. Mine are 6204 2RS sized. Takes two per spindle. They're chineseium bearings--so they don't last forever.
thanks for the review! looking at this and the new Ariens Ikon 52-in ,
Same going to look at both today and buy one don't know what one to get though
Wow same here May 5 2020 model approaching 150 hours. So far so good same battery and just oil changes, I added the arm rest and fenders.
Thats great - We love ours too! Seems pretty solid still. Thanks for sharing
@@AFR_Adventures Absolutely👍🏾
I have had mine for a few months now and I love it. I saw videos where some people were saying how bad Cub is and all that but I went to a local mower shop known for their good work that works on them and the guy there told me yes they are good. Not hard to work on. Last and perform well as long as you properly maintain it. He gave me some other tips on buying a zero turn as well so I went to my local Home Depot and bought one. Now some people have reported theirs was not put together completely or correctly so don't buy from HD. This is going to depend on your local HD. Lowes, or any other box store as to who puts it together and how well they do. My local HD apparently has very good people. It was put together completely and correctly and I got it the next day. Delivered. Can't praise them enough. Anyway I have 2.3 acres and mine mows it like a champ. I even mow my neighbor's yard because the lady is old and alone and I help her out with yard work. She has about 1.5 acres. She has the really good Augustine grass too. The thick Floratam type. My ZT1 cuts it like a champ. My grass is more like field grass. Combo of bahia and some type of wild stuff. I hope to sink a well and get proper irrigation this year so I can get the good Augustine grass like she and the other neighbors have. I upgraded from and old Murray tractor style mower to the ZT1 and I love it. Never going back to the old style mowers anymore.
We are doing a 5 year review which should be posted soon! Keep watch for it!
I have a ZT1 50 inch cut. Going on four years old. Still have the original battery. Only thing I don’t like is that grass collects on top of the deck. Damp grass will stick to the bottom of the deck. My deck is in good condition. I also added grease fittings to the spindles. Other than that really pleased with the mower.
I'm getting ready to repaint areas on mine again.
Never had any problems with the paint on mine although I did repaint the bottom of the deck with a special paint to help keep grass from sticking to it. Waste of time and money lol.
The spindles are very easy to take apart and put new bearings in. I won’t replace the spindles right away without trying new bearings in them. Bearings per spindle ran about $20
Oh that's not too bad cost wise. Will definitely take a look into doing that instead when the time comes. Thanks!
I can tell you the first upgrade you absolutely must make to your 50 inch club cadet to make it more reliable is to install an automotive battery that will fit in the battery compartment tray. I made this upgrade on mine and it has held a charge and started flawlessly ever since and spins, the motor fast enough to start without priming and the benefit you get a warranty much better than the lawn tractor battery at slightly more money
Great idea - Thanks for the tip!
I Worked at Interstate Batteries for years so with that being said, the lifespan on a battery of that size and rating, all u should get is 3years, 4 years max no matter how well u take care of it ... I'd say for a battery just past it's 3rd birthday , cranking amps will be down significantly and if you brought that back to the manufacturer, they would agree that the battery is where it is expected to be at this point in it's lifespan....
Ah, good to know.
Are you saying that 2 of the 3 blade spindles are already worn out already and is there a place to grease them ( zerk fittings)?
There was a little play in two of them, showing some wear, not worn out. There is no place to grease these spindles.
110 hours is dang good. Those spindles lasted pretty well in my opinion. I have same mower. No problems with it in 2 years
I have the exact same lawn mower the battery is a junk that come with it I believe it's like 210 cranking amps I got rid of it and bought one from Tractor Supply 350 cranking amps makes a huge difference. Also how do you keep your mouth underneath mower deck from kicking up with grass mine takes up with grass whether I'm more wet or dry can't seem to figure that out it's a pain in the ass to scrape have to lift it up with my tractor and lay under it and scrape under the deck
Good question - have same issue.
With the rust, just curious of your location. I live in southern Maryland. I was considering purchasing one of these.
We are located in upstate NY. It's still running strong.
See the water on his deck? Don't ever use water on your deck especially if it's hot. The water will ruin you spindle bearings. The stamped decks come with a lifetime warranty, but I'm not sure if it covers paint. The mower also comes with a 3 year warranty, and again, I'm not sure if it covers paint. Mine is a good mower but if I could have found a Bad Boy with a Kawasaki engine and 42" deck, I would have bought it. Bad Boys are just better mowers and I might buy one in the future. Hope this helps your decision.
@@AFR_Adventures Thanks
Thanks to you both.
Do your handles line up? Just curious. I’ve adjusted mine every way possible and one is still about 3/4 of an inch high and forward. Wondering if it’s common across that mower or if I may have a bent arm from the factory.
Yeah our's doesn't line up perfectly either, I think that's just how the mowers are
@@AFR_Adventures thank you for the reply! I feel better knowing it’s normal.
Can’t let the ocd get to you 😂 I know the exact pain
@@DrivenByLuckGaming seriously! I just happen to be an OCD freak! It’s okay though! Cuts grass like a champ. Sure love it!
@@jarradpredmore7012 haha I’m getting one for $500 at home depot
I store my battery in the house during the winter and drain all the gas out as well. I had to change the fuse and charge my battery this year. The mower finally started and I drove it to the grass and as soon as I engaged the blades, the mower died. It won't even click when I try to start it. I've been watching every video I can, but yours is the only one with my exact mower. I'm thinking a faulty Solenoid, but the video I watched has a different cover over theirs- so I can't figure out how to access mine. The safety switches are my other thought, but again- mine are different than the ones in the videos I've seen. I'd appreciate any advice or knowledge you can give. Thanks.
Sorry to hear that. Not sure why that would be happening. You may want to check out this Cub Cadet link I found for you or reach directly out to them. support.cubcadet.com/s/article/193-1
@@AFR_Adventures Thank you!!
Does your mower make a grinding noise when you turn or pivot?
It does not.
Had ours since 2021. Still not sure what to think. It does fine but the cut quality isn’t that great in my opinion. But of course I’m coming from a newer exmark. Used to mow but I gave it up and sold it. Got this for my yard. It sure does lay down some stripes though! I was surprised. Sits out in the weather every winter. I kid you not, every spring it fires right up. Haven’t had to charge the battery a single time yet. My 2019 exmark radius 60” would never stay charged over winter.
I'm doing a 5 year review on the ZT1 - have it out shortly - Lot to talk about.
That is one beat up deck. Gotta clean those off every mow.
Yup - clean each time
Could be a bad connection causing a drain..
Could be - will take a look and see.
Put a big block 440 in it. 👍
New video idea? 👀
Lets see.......well my zt1 after 1 year has almost all plastic has ground down to nothing, front tires constantly go flat, idling pully breaks, when it gets slightly cold outside it refuses to start......i can go on and on.
Ouch!
Lawn mower batteries don’t last more than two years. That’s how they make them, that way you have to replace them every few years
Certainly seems that way!
My Wal Mart mower battery was bought and installed in 2015. It still starts the mower every time. I always keep a maintenance charger hooked up when I'm not using the mower. Since the Kohler Command engine starts so quickly, the battery really may not be good but I don't realize it.
Most batteries will last a long time with proper use of a maintainer 😁
My last battery lasted 5 years.
My Cub cadet is going on 8 years old. I finally had to replace the battery this year.
You said, 110 hrs…, I didn’t think the Z-1, 64” cut, had an hr meter…
There is one on the instrument cluster above the key.
How many acres do you cut with it
@@jedklampet7471 Probably 3? the property we've used it on is 55, 20 of which is field but probably around 3 of that we cut down with the Z
AGM battery is too weak
That it is
Battery is too small. One of my pet peeves.
That's for sure
And this deck looks fabricated. Imagine what one of the pressed decks would be like. I think the 42” version is pressed.
I'm pretty sure your deck has a lifetime warranty on it I know mine does. To keep your deck from rusting and keep the bearings in your spindles from wearing out stop using water on your deck man!
Into every life a little water must fall.
@@AFR_Adventures And rust.
13 years and never seen a hose, no rust.
@@carlmorgan8452 👍
Unexceptable on the rust.
It was somewhat surprising.
They make things now to tear up so you can buy a new one. Nothing but garbage..
Sorry to say, there is room for improvement.
I have the same mower with 168 hours runtime. It’s good EXCEPT THE TRIPPLE BAGGER IS SHIT.
Is it? We've been thinking about getting one. What don't you like about it?
@@AFR_Adventures the mower is fine, it’s just such a headache to change from bagging to mulching or side discharge. If you look over the bagger you’ll see what I mean, it’s not well thought out.
@@mray8519 I think I’ll stop in to a dealer and take a look. Thanks!
@@AFR_Adventures I think the dealer should actually demonstrate removing and reinstalling the bagger system and the mulching cover. As I said, the mower itself has been good it’s just the bagging system that’s problematic.
