Thanks Chuck, just started up my own lawncare service here in MN and I got the ZT1 54in and hearing these guys say they aren’t meant for commercial mowing has been worrying me. I expect this mower will last several seasons with decent care. th-cam.com/users/postUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend Also, I ran across the problem with it not starting the 2nd time I used it. There is a safety switch which is pushed in by the chute or mulching piece being attached to the deck. I took the cover off and it wouldn't start. Put it back on, no problem. It takes only a minute with 2 easily accessible wingnuts and no tools. This mower starts up first crank each time and it is a joy to use. It also mows in reverse by putting the key to the reverse area after starting and pushing in the triangular button. It will stay in reverse mode until you turn it off. All in all, for my homeowner needs, I really like this mower-and at 70 bucks a cut here in Miami, it's already more than 1/3 paid for itself in a month.
Thanks so much for the differences. I've watched multiple videos and even went to a dealer, viewing materials in the store, and I still picked up differences here I've not seen covered anywhere. Really appreciate the in depth (yet quick) comparison.

Have never had a belt jump but my husband has a small lawn mower repair business so he would probably just put it back on. I have been a Toro guy my whole adult life, but when I moved last October to a lawn that necessitated a riding mower, all Toros in the area where I live were sold out of the models with the Kawasaki motor. The Ariens IKON 52's were all sold out too. I "Settled" on a ZT1 50 (1 acre only) knowing that for whatever reason, these Cubbies hold their value really well and I could sell it for a reasonable price and upgrade later. So far, I actually like the Cub a lot!. I don't seem to have the vibration issues that a lot of people complained about (perhaps they've corrected it by now?) and mine cuts great provided the blades are sharp. When I got it, I was disappointed in the cut quality, but I cleaned the underside, sharpened the blades, and spent a bunch of time leveling the deck, and honestly, it cuts GREAT now. I never expected that kind of improvement from such a simple maintenance item. And obviously my dealer never leveled the deck because it was WAY out. I also don't think the factory blades come with any kind of good edge on them. Only complaint about it is for whatever reason, the right side tire doesn't seem to get the traction that the left side gets. The right wheel will be spinning backward at times and it still might be going straight. Doesn't happen the other direction. As far as I can tell it's pretty evenly weighted from side to side, tire pressures have been checked. Can't figure it out. Weirdest problem ever.

I saw a couple of your comments discussing the cut quality. If you don’t mind me asking what exactly is it doing with the cut quality. I am interested in getting one of these models but that might be a deal breaker for me. Thnx
I tended to lay the grass over not allowing a complete cut. About an hour after cutting, If you go back and inspect the yard, you will see all the stragglers standing back up. You can see them directly after cutting, but after an hour seeing all of the grass that was missed was very disappointing.
Sciron If you are truly serious, go visit your nearest mower dealer. Dealer support is vital to the Lawncare community. Each and every company has their own pro’s and con’s, but it’s the dealer that will keep you running. Good luck little man!
Sciron I would get a cub cadet xt1 46 inch. That’s what I started out with when I was 11, I’m 15 now and I have a 25 hp new holland tractor and a 72” Dixie chopper and a 18 foot trailer. I am very serious about my business, so my best tip for you is to get out there and charge less than the other guys the first year and then every year add $5 to the charge. As you cut more grass you will learn how to make their lawn look better and they will be happy to pay you that extra money. Also if you are serious buy things that you will be able to use when your business gets bigger like a bigger trailer when you decide to get one. I hope it goes good for you.
G4 Outdoors hey man I went back to the Home Depot and I realize that the Ultima ZT1 comes with the hitch accessory on it but they took it away, so I just ask the manager for mine and they gave it to me, thank you 🙏
I have a zt1 54 inch deck. My only complaint about the mower is the holes they left around the blade deck spindles. Underneath the deck covers always get clogged with grass and I have to disassemble it to clean it. I am going to assume that they did this to keep the spindles and bearings cooler? Having said that I've never had a mower where they're bearings went bad and I would rather they go bad every 5 years than me having to disassemble the mower to clean it. If they knew this was going to happen they could have made the deck covers to come off easily, but you have to break out your wrenches and get in there. It annoys me to the point where every time I do it, I send an email to Cub cadet asking who the genius is who okay this turd. I just got my welder up and running so I am going to make little form-fitting plates to cover the holes up. Has anyone ever heard anyone complain about this? Is my mower missing parts that aren't there? Thanks Frustrated admirer of Cub cadet. 😐
I just checked it out I personally like cub Cadet and trust the brand my pap has had a 2006 cub Cadet garden tractor since I was born I live in Pennsylvania the grass here grows very fast , over ten years of service and my Pap’s cub Cadet still looks brand new, and I’m a huge fan of your channel
Ryan Jewell I’m not really sure yet. Cub Cadet took it back and is shipping me another one because the deck and pulleys are unbalanced. I will be leaving an updated video just as soon as the area rep brings it back with more info.
Great review! I actually just purchased some property in the Pacific Northwest just under 15 acres-with about 3 of it mowable (most of it being forest). And while the majority of it is beautifully-landscaped gardens and trees, quite a bit is on multi-terraced hills that average about a 15-degree slope. I like the CC's a lot but can't decide whether to get the ZT2 or the ZT1. Our other property in SoCal was just under 7,100 sq ft with most of it artificial grass (the drought thing) and the rest being mowed by gardeners. So I'm totally new to this ride-along mowers thing. Any advice is much appreciated!
Great video guys! I wonder if you could help? I've been in the landscape business now for just over 5 years and am looking to upgrade my CC RZT 46" S. Could you explain the difference in the Pro series mowers compared to the home owner series?
WYREd I never set a timer on it. I now own a Toro TimeCutter MyRIDE 54”. I am going to do a fuel consumption video and how long does it take to mow 1 acre. Comments like these help me improve reviews. I appreciate the questions!
If I could sing it, I would be more than happy too. Unfortunately , it is a friend of mine that does the singing. If you don't mind me sounding like Alfalfa, I will give it a go LOL.
My issue of deck vibration is solved, I left comment on cut and clean too. This deck vibrates normally but mine was excessive with idler hammering. After a few weeks of calls and coordinating between Cub and my dealer we are Good. I cut with it last night and now I'm completely happy with the operation👍. Cub saw video footage of mine and said mine was excessive. I believe it's an isolated issue only affecting some.
2RCPRODUCTIONS I still have to do all of my tags and thumbnail, but here is part one of my update. I’m happy with my new mower! th-cam.com/video/E83Sul2e38Q/w-d-xo.html
I suppose you could change them, but they are not designed to be serviced. It has a plug so that you can remove the fluid, but it's not an easy process like a serviceable ones. They are designed to be left alone until they die, lol.
Our son just bought a ZT2-60 from Home Depot. Mistake! Since most of the stores don't handle the 60", it had to come from Tennesse, the Cub factory I assume. Took one week to get to Springfield, Mo, and another week to get delivered to Pittsburg KS Home Depot, about 100 miles. But alas, still no delivery to the store as the delivery company doesn't have a truck with a large enough drop tailgate for it, so still waiting. In the meantime, he's got 4 acres of grass now about 10-12" tall. It'll be a workout for the new mower when he gets it finally for sure. 2 or 3 cuttings just to get it down to normal height...Sorry, just venting :)
It defiantly will take several cuts to get it down LOL. But you will be surprised at the power and its ability to discharge the grass. It will not bog down on you, and I think you will be surprised and the lack of clumping even with that tall of grass.
How is the traction on the zt2 tires. I have a couple of hills that my current zero turn with the same tires as the zt1 has works fine unless its wet. Do the zt2 tires have less traction?
I can’t say for a fact, but that is probably the difference you get from going from big box store to a dealer. All of the information I said in this video was direct questions to the dealer.
Just got my ZT2 yesterday from a dealer and it came with the 2 ply. They're advertised on their website that way also. Would love to have the improved tire.
I didn't hear you mention that the ZT1's deck is 13 gauge and the ZT2's deck is 11 gauge. One thing no one will talk about is what gauge steel the 2X2 box frame is. It looked very thin on the one I saw. It would be nice to know.
That would be something you would have to look up. We never asked about the specs on that. I can put calipers on them when I get a new one from Cub. Yea, you read that right.
Mike Hartman Sr. Depending on the property. Small, Zt1. Larger, zt2. If you can afford it, get the 2. If money is a factor, get the 1. I’m sure that didn’t help any. Lol.
A residential hustler or a bad boy new. Any used commercial mower you can find with low hours. A used commercial is better than any new residential mower. I run a lawn care business.

Any issues with jumping belts on the deck? Tried one at the dealer and it felt like it would be a potential belt thrower... Seemed like not a smooth engagement.
Yes. Cub took mine back and is currently sending me a replacement. Video coming very soon. It should be interesting beings a Cub rep will be here for video. Hopefully addressing the issue to all of the comments on “shaky deck”.
@@g4outdoors Gotcha. I'll look forward to checking your new delivery one, hopefully they can sort it out. What about your Toro Timecutter you had/have in the previous videos? Any Issues?
I am told that bringing the throttle control to full power and then, engaging the PTO is the best way to eliminate or minimize the chance for a belt to jump pulley. I own a 54", ZT2 and have never had an issue. I mow two lawns, each just over 2 acres each week.
I think all these mowers are basically the same. I just bought a Gravely ZT XL 52. Same as the Ariens IkonX XL. just different paint.HydroGear 2800 serviceable transaxles. Same as the Cub. I just paid a little more for the same thing.

I'm convinced that Cub Cadets are JUNK. The spring of 2020 my son and I both purchased new mowers. I purchased the RZTS42 with the steering wheel and my son purchased the ZT1 42 inch zero turn mower. At 10 hours the drive belt fell off my mower? I mow 1/2 acre flat ground and never allow my grass to get high. At about 20 hours my sons mower blades quit working. Mower runs but no blade movement? Really?? We do not recommend Cub Cadet.
Just got a ZT2 50 for many of the reasons you brought up in your video. Only difference is that the rear tires on mine have the same tread pattern you show on the ZT1. The size is correct for the ZT2, but the sidewall states it's only a 2-ply tire. Wish it was the 4-ply, especially since one developed a leak after less than 30 minutes of use.
@@g4outdoors Got it from a dealer. Before buying, they mentioned just getting these Ultimas in and Cub Cadet only states a size on their site. Possible they made a change on more recent production?
zt2 w/60" fabricated deck here. 2 years in, and the fabricated deck is literally coming apart at the seams. have a cub tractor with a stamped 46", and that thing has held up wayyyyy better.
Thank you ....I saw that the dimensions are L/W/H 80'' x 65'' x 48'' and I got worried. Still looks like I may need the skills of a surgeon to squeeze it in though.
Albert Einstein Lol. That measurement is with the flap down. Just throttle down when you go through the doorway so you don’t end up on a TH-cam fails video.
Loving my ZT2 50” powered by Kawasaki. Tons of features, turns and steers like you expect a zero turn to do. Cuts tall grass at full speed and throws it past 2-3 cut paths. It’s crazy that it will go as fast in reverse as it does in forward, it also cuts clean in reverse. Not impressed with the deck wash feature and I have used it since day one, it may work on dust and dry grass but, not on clumped wet grass. Another thing that blows my mind is how well this mower avoids getting stuck, it’s like it has traction control or something? I actually get excited about mowing now!! I replaced 2 Gravely ZTurns and cut my mowing time in half. With due respect, the Gravelys were showing signs of wear after 10 years of use. I have told everyone I know with big yards to come out and try this mower out to see what their missing!
I do like the features they put on this, but mine doesnt cut very clean, it flings mud on my arms, it vibrates like crazy, but it sure is a comfortable ride.
I wish they made a steering wheel version of the ultima. The current steering wheel version looks antiquated (too much plastic). I guess I’ll wait till next year and hope.
Grease Medic After owning a Cub Zero Turn Tractor for 10 years, there are plenty of drawbacks to the steering wheel concept. Although I absolutely loved mine, it was only a true zero turn with the wheels at full lock. Otherwise it would divit real bad with short turns.
G4 Outdoors I have a sloped yard and have heard the steering wheel to be a bit better on the slopes. I had a lawn tractor and it would constantly loose traction on my yard. Willing to give the steering wheeled ones a shot.

Are any, of the parts interchangeable? Example, installing adjustable ZT2 seat on ZT1, beefier 4 ply rear tires , taller front wheels, etc.?
It's the same frame.
Just buy the Xt2
flat out! with airless front tires.
just got my zt1 50, your reviews helped me a lot
Awesome! Mine went back to Cub for inspection. It had a really bad vibrating deck, pull, and belt problem. They are sending me a new one.
G4 Outdoors do you know if the zt2 has any deck vibration problems?
Whats rhe winner
I saw a couple of your comments discussing the cut quality. If you don’t mind me asking what exactly is it doing with the cut quality. I am interested in getting one of these models but that might be a deal breaker for me. Thnx
I tended to lay the grass over not allowing a complete cut. About an hour after cutting, If you go back and inspect the yard, you will see all the stragglers standing back up. You can see them directly after cutting, but after an hour seeing all of the grass that was missed was very disappointing.
Oh I see. Thank you for sharing that.
Ok I’m 13 and about to start a lawn mowing business what should I buy?
Sciron If you are truly serious, go visit your nearest mower dealer. Dealer support is vital to the Lawncare community. Each and every company has their own pro’s and con’s, but it’s the dealer that will keep you running. Good luck little man!
G4 Outdoors thank you!!
Hi there is a way to install a trailer hitch on the cub cadete ZT1 42” ?
It should already have one. If not, I do not know the answer. sorry.
G4 Outdoors has four screws in there but not hitch I think can be a separate accessories $$
Javier Morales if there are screw or bolt holes, then yes, they should sell it as an accessory.
Thanks
Frustrated admirer of Cub cadet. 😐
Can these be used for more then 2yards . i have a about 10 yards not to big
This video helped me decide which one to get when I move into my new house
Cool! Have you checked out my Cub VS Ariens video?
I just checked it out I personally like cub Cadet and trust the brand my pap has had a 2006 cub Cadet garden tractor since I was born I live in Pennsylvania the grass here grows very fast , over ten years of service and my Pap’s cub Cadet still looks brand new, and I’m a huge fan of your channel
@@ItzDubz24 😎😎
I just bought a zt2 50 today I love it it’s a beast I mow wet grass no problem
Daniel Santillan that’s good to hear. Mine has been gone for a month. It’s got some work to do.
Both mowers are slick and nice but is the between prices? I do like the zt1 can I have arm rests? Would love the 50" steel deck.
The seats are exactly the same. All you have to do is buy the armrests. The bolt holes are already there, lol.
Just bought a new ZT2 they no longer have the external fluid expansion tanks.
Does grass get caught up in the chute? Because of that bar running across the bottom of the opening?
Ryan Jewell I’m not really sure yet. Cub Cadet took it back and is shipping me another one because the deck and pulleys are unbalanced. I will be leaving an updated video just as soon as the area rep brings it back with more info.
Thank you for the video. Been looking at both
Brad Strahl No problem!
Any advice is much appreciated!
dadduorp If your set on a Cub, with that much hill, I’d have to recommend the zt2. Bigger hydros to handle a higher sustainable load for your hill.
Thanks for the advice , much needed
Great video guys! I wonder if you could help? I've been in the landscape business now for just over 5 years and am looking to upgrade my CC RZT 46" S. Could you explain the difference in the Pro series mowers compared to the home owner series?
Engine, hydraulic motors, and build strength. Once you run a commercial mower, it is really hard to turn back to a homeowner model.
Do you have a part # for the ZT1 tow hitch? Mine did not come with one - having trouble finding a flat one to mount on the back.
Earl Jacobs I do not. I’m sure it would be on Cubs website.
amazon!
How long does it take you to mow your three acres with the 50” deck?
WYREd I never set a timer on it. I now own a Toro TimeCutter MyRIDE 54”. I am going to do a fuel consumption video and how long does it take to mow 1 acre. Comments like these help me improve reviews. I appreciate the questions!
couple hours stopping for this or that. probably could do in in 1 if you just kept at it.
my 3 acres takes a half a day at least
Yes your right on the ZT1 is $3199.99 in Michigan &
Maintenance is key. My zt2 is perfect for my little .32 acre
Zt2cadet the right gear is not working what must I do
Take it in for warranty work before the season gets here.
Love the outtakes. I think g4 outdoors needs perform at GIE 2019 love that song. 👍
If I could sing it, I would be more than happy too. Unfortunately , it is a friend of mine that does the singing. If you don't mind me sounding like Alfalfa, I will give it a go LOL.
Oh it sounded like you. Either want to here you sing it.

So the hydraulic fluid is not serviceable? Meaning, you can't change it?
I suppose you could change them, but they are not designed to be serviced. It has a plug so that you can remove the fluid, but it's not an easy process like a serviceable ones. They are designed to be left alone until they die, lol.
@@g4outdoors right to repair again, our closest cc dealer is a bit arrogant, wouldnt take nothing to him.
Perfect, exactly the comparison I wanted to see! Will be buying the ZT2 in 2weeks when our local dealer has them on sale.
I would go with the ZT2 as well. Thanks for the comment Don!
😎😎
I can only speculate that they would have less traction.
Every ZT2 I have seen has the 2-ply tire shown in this video on the ZT1. How do you get the 4-ply tire?
I can’t say for a fact, but that is probably the difference you get from going from big box store to a dealer. All of the information I said in this video was direct questions to the dealer.
G4 Outdoors thanks! I ordered my ZT2 50 sight unseen from my local dealer last week and am really hoping it comes with those improved tires.
Sam Deptula II have the zt1 with the motor yours is coming with. With your upgraded drive motors, you should love it!
@@g4outdoors Ok thanks.
Nope they're both 11 gauge do more researching
Great review. I have zt2 60 inch deck
What is the best zero turn lawnmower for the dollar?
Mike Hartman Sr. Depending on the property. Small, Zt1. Larger, zt2. If you can afford it, get the 2. If money is a factor, get the 1. I’m sure that didn’t help any. Lol.
A residential hustler or a bad boy new. Any used commercial mower you can find with low hours. A used commercial is better than any new residential mower. I run a lawn care business.
@@Kobra7049 Bad Boys come in at a pretty good price and they are gaining pretty good traction in the market. Once you go commercial, you'll never look back, lol.
Where did you get the some from? I can't find it anywhere
As of yesterday home Depot had the zt2 on sale for 2900 you also get a 10% discount for military veterans and free delivery....... we're having one delivered Monday
Any Issues?
Stop Telling Me What To Write 🤣 Total clickbait! I was picking up a new mower for a friend and tested the Toro. Too funny. That was a while ago.
I am told that bringing the throttle control to full power and then, engaging the PTO is the best way to eliminate or minimize the chance for a belt to jump pulley. I own a 54", ZT2 and have never had an issue. I mow two lawns, each just over 2 acres each week.
SO THERE YOU HAVE IT FOLKS ...................... GET THE ZT3
When you gave comparisons, you didn't mention why the ZT2 was better, you just suggested it. Not a good sales pitch. Tires you described okay
What's the starting price on both?
You will have to look that up.
I want one of each. When kids act up I'll put them on these.
LOL They will think they are so cute.
I think all these mowers are basically the same. I just bought a Gravely ZT XL 52. Same as the Ariens IkonX XL. just different paint.HydroGear 2800 serviceable transaxles. Same as the Cub. I just paid a little more for the same thing.
Hydro motors, engines, tires and wheels, and pullies are all the same. The rest is cosmetics, build quality, and cut quality.
if your going to compare mowers, you should have told us what the price point is for both of them. good video
Jon Zimmerman price point at our local dealer are in the description... we don’t usually talk price point cause often times the price can vary in different areas and dealers
kubotas gives $300 to $3,899 instant cash rebates on there zero turns
@@michaelmactavish1728 The Kubota rebates don't even fall in the same category of mower as the ZT1 or ZT2. The rebates are for commercial grade mowers. Next you try trolling, try to say something a little more relevant.
I just bought. 54" ZT2 paid $4100 OTD Raleigh NC
@@gregoriogonzalez9925 What about cutting an extremely rough bumpy 5 acre lot? think the ZT2 would be worth it then? I spent $4100 OTD on my ZT2 54". pretty happy with it but no clue what the real differences are. the big thing that got me was the "serviceable transmissions"
Who’s the genius designing the non-serviceable hydros?
Greg Williams?
a LOT of zero turn mowers from a lot of brands use the same EZT 2200 hydros.
Bean counters, same people who made plastic seat bumpers.
Great outtakes
Thanks man!
Zt2 comes with 2 ply tires as well.
zt1 50 inch cut Kawasaki 23 horse I have 3 and 1/2 acres it does great and I liked it
Are this easy to load into a pick up truck? Is it even doable?? 🤔
Depends on the mower and the truck.
The zt 1 is yellow and black. The zt2 is black and yellow.
Slide down a hill like on ice. If you have hills get different tires.
Just because I cut my own grass doesn't mean I enjoy country music.
b376010 Ok. That’s cool,,,, I guess. But... I would guess because you are searching Lawn Mower Videos on TH-cam that You Do!!! lol
Everyone knows that if you cut your own grass ... You're basically one of the devil's rejects. 😅
LOL Love the outtakes. Must be that camera man messing you up. LOL good job guys.
First Step Lawn Care & Property Maintenance definitely the camera man. Lol. Thanks for the comment!
The outtakes are awesome !
Thanks! They are fun to keep in when I screw up as much as I did. Lol.
Yup. Check out my other vids. Problems started to arise pretty quickly.
Here for the difference..1:34
Just got a ZT2 50 for many of the reasons you brought up in your video. Only difference is that the rear tires on mine have the same tread pattern you show on the ZT1. The size is correct for the ZT2, but the sidewall states it's only a 2-ply tire. Wish it was the 4-ply, especially since one developed a leak after less than 30 minutes of use.
Did you buy from a dealer or a big box store? Just curious if this is something big box is doing to increase profits.
@@g4outdoors Got it from a dealer. Before buying, they mentioned just getting these Ultimas in and Cub Cadet only states a size on their site. Possible they made a change on more recent production?
How much it cost the ZT2??
3,800
zt2 w/60" fabricated deck here. 2 years in, and the fabricated deck is literally coming apart at the seams. have a cub tractor with a stamped 46", and that thing has held up wayyyyy better.
Between Kohler and Kawasaki motor... Go Kawasaki
I count 5 G”s
My shed has a 60 inch opening/doorway, can I fit the ZT2 54 in it?
I can only say it should. You would have to lift the deflector up to clear though.
Thank you ....I saw that the dimensions are L/W/H
80'' x 65'' x 48'' and I got worried.
Wasted time with the whining music. Other than that, great review.
They both feel every little bump in its path, even the ones that are not there, pass.
Grease Medic I have to agree on the holding hills part for sure.
Can do without the shot kicking gun toasting sound track!
Green grass, girls, guns.? You have a new fan. Just subbed. Wow. Check us out, we are just getting started. Thanks.
👍👍
So, you're selling the ZT2. NOT a comparison. Got you.
Good videos but please get rid of the background music. People like myself come looking for video content on stuff like this. If I wanted to hear country music, I'd be watching CMT instead of TH-cam.
CMT doesn’t play music anymore lol. So you’re out of luck on both sides.
You get what you pay for, great mower for the short term.
No price disp0inted
