For those wondering: Ares literally takes power from conflict. Against Darkseid he was surrounded by arguably one of the bloodiest battles to ever occur on earth and therefore he was much more powerful than how he was in WW

But 70 million soldiers fought in WW1. That is roughly half the entire world's population at the height of the Greek empire. The largest war in the history of the world by an order of magnitude.

I love how Ares tells Diana that she has "So much to learn". Implying that she's not even any where near as powerful as she could be. Hints that more strength, speed, powers, flight, etc are to come once she realizes who she truly is.

Uxas* Darkseid is more of a universal being. The one Ares fought was Darkseid before he gained his Omega Effect.
Well he beat a weaker version of Darkseid, called Baby Darkseid by Snyder. And also, Diana couldn't actually beat Ares power wise, she didn't even damage him whatsoever. She could just do it based on the fact that Zeus literally designed her to kill Ares using his own strength, which was too much for even Zeus to handle. Diana is like holding up a mirror to him to let him kill himself.

When Ares fought Darkseid, he was in his prime, and more powerful on top of that. He gains power from war, and he was fighting in an intergalactic battle on Earth. That single battle was probably Ares' most powerful moment in this DC universe. That's how he could body Darkseid on a single hit

Diana's love is the ultimate antithesis to Ares's hate, thats the main reason why she was able to defeat him, its not because shes physically stronger. Zeus copulated with an Amazon in the hopes of producing a being that not only posseses godlike strength but also has a great capacity for love and compassion, he knew that violence wouldnt work on Ares so it has to be Good will and love which Diana embodies perfectly.

Before the league's fight against Clark, Diana asserted to the others about how he doesn't know who he is due to his resurrection. Furthermore, when she decided to face him one on one, she pleaded with him to not fight. Unlike with Ares, it was evidently clear that she was attempting only to incapacitate not kill.

Look this was a good movie, but I refuse to believe that Ares somehow single handedly defeated Zeus, Poseidon, and all the other gods of Greek mythology. Like come on he beat Hercules? It would have been a better plot device to say he was banished from Olympus and confined to the mortal realm because of his desire for war.

Fun fact for those who don't know the mythology well enough: Ares is only technically a God of War. He's actually the God of Violence. There's multiple Gods/Goddesses of War. Athena for example is a Goddess of War but in the realm of Strategy. Nike is a Goddess of Victory which is also a Goddess of War. Ares is the God of Violence which is obviously an aspect of War like the ones I've mentioned already. There's many others I won't list off but the point is they're all Gods/Goddesses of War but they've all got a specialty in it. Ares is most often just dubbed the 'god of war' being as his specialty in violence is the one most heavily associated and tied to War itself via Violence.

David Thewlis’ voice is so rich and authentic. He played the role of Ares to the bone.
Don't understand why they hate the 3rd act. This gave me chills in the cinema. C'mon it's a history - the final battle in the very first great female-led superhero film. The music is epic, the twist fooled us, the motivation of Ares challenged us. I love seeing Diana being thrown away, they want to show that she's not always strong. Also when Ares formed his armor from the war metals around, is just badass!

I personally felt like the movie was great until when Ares showed up. The idea of someone being naive and powerful and doing everything they can to end the war and not instantly ending it like they originally thought they could was great. She basically thought the Nazis would drop their guns the moment she did the right thing but instead things continued as is. If they would have explored that aspect instead of opting to introduce Ares as the person who orchestrated half the war then it would have been a great film. I feel the inclusion of Ares detracts heavily from the overall film, which I honestly thought was a great film... right up until Ares.

Ares was always known as the God of war but in reality was more like the god of battle and warfare as in the material bloody part of it. If its a bloody, ruthless combat Ares was likely there.
The other was Athena. Who usually was seen as a goddess of knowledge was actually a true god of war as she specialized in tactics and strategy much of the important decision making in a war.

What I also like about this film is the chemistry between Wonder Woman & Steve Trevor. WW was strong and feminine. Steve was strong willed and manly. They both respectively treated each other for who they were. Neither made it like they're better than one another.

@@apomtaylor8054 Darkseid trust his weapon to block ares attack but ares attack went through both his weapon and his armor which he was not expecting. So, ares was lucky that darkseid didn't dodge his attack.

@@fm_0523 yeah no. He does have some good dialogue and action scenes, but Ares didn't really made that much of a presence in this film. Like, it was really random for Sir Patrick Morgan to be revealed as Ares. He only appeared in the first and third acts. He wasn't even given hints that it was him all along. Not to mention the fact that he looks nothing like his comic book counterpart

Only he unknowlingly challenges the god of death and had to stage his death, running away through multiple realities to wind up here, where his magic allows him to be a god.

bruh ares was weakened after fighting with zeus. They stated that in the movie. And in the fight with darkseid he was in his prime and there was a huge battefield. So his power just skyrocketed there. And that darkseid or uxas was weak.
