@@VideoGameEsotericaby far my most wanted prototype as well. In a VERY distant second place are the N64 prototypes of Resident Evil 0 and Eternal Darkness.
You're legit! I also saw this in magazines in the 90s and was very excited. The screenshots looked amazing. I've always wondered what happened to this version. Thanks for covering it! Hopefully we'll get a playable copy someday.
This was really great. Thank you for sharing all of your research. I still have my original copies of D, Enemy Zero, D2, and Trip'D. I love Kenji Eno's games, as well as the sort of evolutionary dead end of these FMV adventures along with stuff like the System Sacom butterfly games. I've been trying to find more about whether there's an intended connection between the Mansion of Hidden Souls games and Lunacy for years, especially with the character of Anthony from Lunacy, his butterfly collection, and the Watcher from the Hidden Souls games. I really enjoyed this a lot.
Thanks for the great video and all of the info about M2 D2. I always watch your videos about it and I'm endlessly fascinated about that system and that game.
It's a crying shame that the original story for D2 was scrapped for the Dreamcast version, it had such an an interesting and engaging setup. Are there any chances that a story outline could be out there somewhere?
I would have loved to be able to play the original intention of D2 that would have been fun running around as her son fighting knights with swords. Kenji Eno plot twist! Videogameesoterica is actually a DE10 nano Mister trying to take over the video game industry from modern consoles!
This is based on the real life historical figure vlad tepes. One of the most gruesome rulers in history. He ruled transylvania and was at war with the ottomans. Whose army were so afraid of him personally that they fled back to the ottoman empire thinking they were actually fighting the devil. There are some fascinating books about him with unbelievable stories
That storyline is absolutely WILD! Such a shame they weren't able to complete that version, or just port it to another platform when the M2 was cancelled.
Regarding the stuff about Vlad/Dracula not being able to have children, I feel like the implication is that the stuff to do with the castle is metaphorical rather than literal. My interpretation is that D is a metaphor for growing up in an abusive household, so Laura's father isn't a literal blood sucking monster but that's the easiest way for her to process the complicated emotions stemming from those formative experiences and how the incident at the hospital was always inevitable due to his rage. If we're going with that interpretation, it's possible that D2 could have been read as a trauma induced nightmare where Laura imagines her now dead abuser still being alive and stealing her unborn child from her as she watches him from an external perspective and guides him as he plays out similar experiences of what she went through with her father in an attempt to protect him from harm. I don't know if that's what they were going for, but if anyone was going to create a third person adventure game where you're technically not the character on screen and are instead represented by the camera perspective, framing the interaction of controlling the character on screen as being akin to a kind of lucid dream, I feel like it would have been Eno.
This one would be very different from D2 of Dreamcast. Would be great if you could get your hands on a prototype of this one
Always looking, never succeeding

I’d love RE 0 N64, the more complete version of RE 1.5 and Saturn shenmue
Wonder what the Saturn build looked like.
Im glad we got the Dreamcast version of D2 as I love the snowy setting, but this version looks really interesting too.

Well at least I found a playable SOMETHING and was able to give it away to everyone

The most story outline is in my head from what I’ve researched / been told by devs
We need this, the March 1997 beta of Resident Evil 1.5, the N64 version of RE0, those protos for RE4.
Hook man version is a must
Very Cool Video! 😎
I very like, how Videogames can be the other way.
I began to Reader the Manga for D2.
3DO M2 has very unique Arcade Hardware
Glad you enjoyed the vid
D2 on the 3DO. That's interesting to know VGE. 8^)
Would have been a launch game too

Hahaha I’m gonna need more subs before I can take over
Used to own the DC version in NTSC, had to buy an NTSC DC from a friend to get it working, good times!
It’s such a wild and unique game
@@VideoGameEsoterica I remember picking it up, didn't realise it had so many disks. Lol, it is severely underrated

And it would have made a great game too sadly
👁2 love learning about D2 on the M2!
This retrospective has been a super fun failure lol
People need to learn that Ds videos are great!
lol so many jokes could be made here
Everytime I see M2 footage i get a little sad. It would have eaten the PSOne and N64s lunch. This has got to be sitting somewhere on a hard drive. 😢
If it is nobody knows about it
The real (see what I did there?) 3DO M2 D2 are the friends we made along the way. 😁

Yes even though I LOVE D2 on Dreamcast…I’d still have rather had this
Oh yeah now this is what I'm here for
Haha not many people are sadly
@@VideoGameEsoterica has anyone pulled the model out of that data? I'm hoping for a D2 OpenLara mod 😉
The backflip model?

Ive played practically every game on dc except for d2. Not sure why. I may have to get it one of these days.

A solid theory. Because just being a “vampire” story would be a little bit too on the nose
I didn't even realize that. How there would be no ur bloodline to draw from because he never had an heir! That's actually hilarious 😂🤣🤣🤣!
Haha just a small plot hole
