I recommend that if you play the PS1 version, play on the PS2 Slim and select the smoothing and CD speed options. In the latest version of the PS2 Slim, there is a huge difference with the normal PS1, with the smoothing options. And if you like the PC version, you can play with the Wiimote on the PC. I played the MAME version like that for years. Then I bought the Gun4Air, but until then I used the Wii Wiimote on the PC. And it is amazing, because I played MAME, Sega Model 2 and 3, House of Dead 1 and 2, Star Wars, Jurassic Park, etc. etc.
I’ve got my USB pedal right next to my GUN4IR too. Weirdly though I prefer a static switch. Tap to duck. Tap to unduck. Vs constant pressure. Why? I have no clue
Sure it's better than the Saturn port of House of The Dead but I'd say the Saturn version of Virtua Cop 2 is still the gold standard for lightgun games on that generation of consoles. That said, this is still great on a PS1 and I recently picked up a PS2 but still need to find a crt. In the meantime I use the Sinden for my lightgun needs on PC but I'm seriously considering getting a MiSTer for all my retro gaming needs
The Mister is great, SNAX64 adapter can use a ton of original peripherals I've got Guncon1, PSX Hyperblaser and NES Zapper for light gun games on a CRT with the Mister and they are great. The Mister PI (Taki Udon Clone) is a much more affordable option now, so the cost of entry has gotten lower. I have 2 misters now because of this, one for a big CRT with light guns and console games, and the Mister Pi in my stand up "arcade". They are very easy to get working on a CRT as well which is nice. You mentioned Saturn, and while the Saturn Mister Core is really good I don't believe it supports lightguns via SNAC adapter yet though (I don;t have one to test and I think all the light gun games on Saturn have better ports on other consoles anyway). I do have the 3D Control Pad and normal saturn controllers and they work with SNAC though which is nice.
Can't believe how close you got the PS1 looking to the System 32, incredible job as usual! Also there's a custom lightgun fork for duckstation you can try while they fix the support on the newest, it's kind of an old build but it supports 2 players and has some fixes; IIRC it removes the flashing on most games as well
I have a PS1 set up in my dedicated arcade cabinet just for shooting games. Plus a Wii and Saturn. Time Crisis is the game I play the most and the reason I built the cab in the first place. The Namco gun and PS1 and Time Crisis and arcade cabinet feels just like the arcade. I've recently purchased the RS3 Reaper Pro light gun to play Time Crisis in MAME on an OLED 48" TV.. Can't wait for it to arrive.
Same boat here! Love my Guncon on a CRT with Time Crisis but in the back of my head I know the MAME one looks so much better... I also ordered the RS3 Reapers, I think I may give the enhanced Duck Station one a try when they get here. Didn't order mine till like December 10th as I didn't know about them and randomly got a FB ad. Prob won't have mine till sometime mid Jan.
Nice to know the MAME version works nice nowadays. Happen to know whether it is a recent progress' result? i mean, i remember back in late 2022 it still was quite laggy and ps1 was still the only option
I play the PS1 version emulated on the Wii with openGL accelerated graphics thanks to 'WiiStation', plus the Wiimote acting as a GunCon. It's the best!
Well, in Duckstation you can overclock the CPU per game, so shouldn't that result in a better framerate? And the darker hire should be easy to fix too. By the way, want this remade for the PS2 in Japan or am i misremembering?
I never liked the fact that running out of time or losing all your lives on the PS1 version forces you to restart the stage. Nevertheless I hope I can get a GunCon for my PS1. I have XStation installed in mine and I have HD Retrovision cables connected to my CRT.
That first seamless cut from arcade to PS1 made me do a double-take and rewind, thought I was losing my mind. Great editing!
Haha thanks. That’s half of what I do for a living

GUN4IR makes everything better. Hands down my go to lightgun
Why ps2slim over ps2fat?
@@daveunknown01 I think it's because the PS1 is emulated in it, whereas in the other one you literally have the whole PS1 chipset.
@@Myako interesting. I have both slim and fat (besides the original PlayStation). I shall try.
I play both MAME and Duckstation versions paired with the Sinden lightgun and a USB pedal. Living the dream@
I’ve got my USB pedal right next to my GUN4IR too. Weirdly though I prefer a static switch. Tap to duck. Tap to unduck. Vs constant pressure. Why? I have no clue
my god, we spent so much money playing this in the arcade
And it deserved every quarter
classic game! brings back memories of the great silent scope game on ps2. recently got it for 50p lol
Then you’ll probably be excited for the next retrospective ;)
@@VideoGameEsoterica sweeeeet!

I can’t really decide between Time Crisis and Virtua Cop as to what’s better. It’s a tie for me
I’m glad more people can get into MiSTer at a way lower cost than before. Helps the community grow
There's also the version on ps2, but that is probably identical to the ps1 version, but you can play it with a guncon2 there obviously
They are basically 1:1 identical so showing the PS2 version wasn’t essential this time
The PS1 framerate is a dealbreaker for me, unfortunately. System 22 all the way! On the other hand, I prefer the PS2 versions of TC2, 3, and CZ.
TC2 I am 100% arcade haha. The opposite
Can't believe how close you got the PS1 looking to the System 32, incredible job as usual!

I may be a weirdo but I want the flashing. It’s part of the charm
It's been a minute since I've seen a time crisis arcade but yeah really fun you got the light gun and the pedal great graphics for the time
The pedal is such a great added component
Arcade for me VGE. I love Time Crisis that I thought it was better than Virtua Cop. Many fond memories playing this in the arcades bro. 8^)
I’d give Time Crisis the edge too
I have a PS1 set up in my dedicated arcade cabinet just for shooting games. Plus a Wii and Saturn. Time Crisis is the game I play the most and the reason I built the cab in the first place. Lightgun games are a must for any home arcade. My fav genre

Will be a fun setup once they arrive
Good video as usual. How about HOTD 2 arcade vs Wii.
Maybe in the future
I honestly feel like Time Crisis 1 is overshadowed by its sequels like Street Fighter 1.
It shouldn’t be. First game is still one of the best IMO. They are all classics that being said
Virtua Cop 1 and 2 for the Sega Saturn demonstrate how the Saturn can be better than the PSX
With a good dev team yes Saturn could stand toe to toe with PS1
@ true
Nice to know the MAME version works nice nowadays. Happen to know whether it is a recent progress' result? i mean, i remember back in late 2022 it still was quite laggy and ps1 was still the only option
Not sure when it was buttoned up. It’s been decent for awhile

That’s one I haven’t tried yet. Worth doing?
@@VideoGameEsoterica If you already have a jailbroken Wii, yes.
You know what I was also good diehard trilogy’s railshooter
I did that for a Xmas episode two years ago I think. Ton of fun

Overclocking only improves framerate the game runs at an unlocked framerate
I love this game. One of the 🐐
Then you’ll be very happy with the retrospective starting soon
Honestly, I prefer the style of the psx version. Yeah obviously it's compensating but it comes off well.
It’s def a pretty faithful translation
I never liked the fact that running out of time or losing all your lives on the PS1 version forces you to restart the stage. Nevertheless I hope I can get a GunCon for my PS1. I have XStation installed in mine and I have HD Retrovision cables connected to my CRT.
Just a way to artificially enhance the gameplay time on PS1
It is very much an example of a game that just has to real downsides.
No real downsides?
I don't think you'll have a crisis of low views on the video this time!
Haha you may be seeing a LOT more Time Crisis soon too
So what you're saying is that in due *time,* I will be having a *crisis* of decision paralysis on which video to watch!
🤣 maybe
Cant share :(
