Six weeks ago, I knew NOTHING about chords or playing guitar but now light bulbs are going off and it's all beginning to make sense since I've learned how to find the notes, etc. You are one of two of my favorite online tutors. I do not think I could have learned this much so quickly without your contributing your time to make these videos. I have an even begun to understand "in the key of...". Although I am a beginner, this video was very helpful. Thank you so much! :-)
Wait till it feels like u don't know what a guitar is and some days u have beat it..up and downs..am 3 years in and still like day one and others not so well..but the light bulb moments will keep u in the game
I'm 67. Your visual aids( when I've got my glasses on lol) are awesome ,thankyou. I'm moving from self taught chord hacker to one with at least some finesse
Thank you Justin. As a Hard Rock player who's starting to get into Jazz and Blues I found this course most helpful. The beauty of what you do is that you don't post little snippets to lead people on, you teach fundamental material that actually help people learn and master the topic. You truly are THE ONLY real guitar teacher on TH-cam. As a sign of appreciation I shall be purchasing this course the moment I get my hands on some cash, even though I've got almost all of it down. (and tbh the bonus lessons sound enticing) Cheers mate, Wishing you all the very best, all the way from Australia :)
how can 51 people not like this lesson? some people are never satisfied. Justin - thanks for the most simple explanation of 12 bar blues patterns and keys. Helped loads.
haven't seen Justin 4 a while cause iv been caught in the midst of a alice in chains obsession but peoples he is deffinatly the best and after all BLUES IS THE ROOTS EVERYTHING ELSE IS JUST THE FRUITS.
I can honestly say I've learned more from this short video than from years of "random" playing. To be more specific, I was able to play all that, but I simply didn't see the whole picture and how smooth and easy it can be. Great job, thank you!
Thanks so much. You turn complicated things into simple things. I'm not even English native speaker and I understood everything. Merci mr le professeur !
This was very useful, I've been playing guitar about 4 years, mostly just heavy metal, thrash, rock and hard rock. but I've never learned how to express myself, how to have my soul in the music, I just hit the powerchords fast and aggresively to sound fast and good but the hardest thing is not to sound good but to honestly express myself, that's why I'm trying to learn blues too to get something more to my playing, not just fast powerchords. Thank you for helping me improve my skills.
Great basic rhythm guitar for beginners, who wanna know the most elementaty in blues and ol' school rock n roll. Thanks a lot. Now, I'm looking forward to some blues/jazz rhythm guitar :-)
You are such an amazing teacher! Thank you so much for your work on the Internet. You are a hero!! God bless you for helping us out and making more music possible in this world of ours!!
Really enjoyed the lesson - learned a lot in a short time period - thanks Justin! Hope to watch more of your videos; I am a visual learner so you format is Right On!
this definitely cleared things up for me.... actually, it showed me things I didn't even know I didn't know.... thank you so much and as always, keep on rockin my friend
I like this. Pretty straightfoward in terms of rhythm and structure, but I needed this for added variation in terms of possible movement around the neck. Not having the biggest hands means having to work on alternative techniques to maintain comfort. Thanks for video.
Hey man, great lesson, I am gonna do the whole series, Blues is a really fun and (at a basic level) easy part of playing guitar. Great that you teach how to play it.
the music theory stuff is a bonus for we whom wish to know more about our particular art form. its icing on the cake for us. trust me, if you wanna play your own great music, you need it. its not all chicks and pints (unfortunately). the simple lesson was great and the theory lesson helped tremendously. thank you.
you may be the best guitar teacher on the planet, i buy the lick library dvds for 20 quid a disc and those guys are awesome.... and u teach just as good as those guys if not better :) not even joking man ppl know your a good player but teaching is seriously hard to do cos belive me ive tried lol but yeah cant wait fo these next lessons im hooked already :)
A concise & informative lesson Justin! You have a natural ability to communicate in a personable & encouraging way which so many other online teachers lack. Can't think what those 166 thumbs downers were looking for but they obviously missed the point. You can't please em all... Appreciate your efforts in making these excellent & instructive videos! But man those bar chords up around the neck are hellish on acoustic guitar"!
Blues is so much easier on the guitar then on the piano. There are no such easy schemes to find yours 4 and 5 chord on the keyboard. I'm glad I'm better at playing the piano, so I can play the blues in every key with both the guitar and the piano ;-)
pikherz I don't understand what makes it harder. You just use the circle of fifths and go up to the 4th chord in whatever key you're in. if anything guitar is harder.
Kian Evans Its harder for the hand to play the pentatonic. On the guitar it is always the same position and distance between the notes, always the same pattern, the blues notes are always in the same spot. Its easy to orientate. On the piano however the blues notes sometimes is a black sometimes a white key, sometime you can slide into it sometimes only out, the pattern change, you can get the fingers used to walking down the scale quickly, because its different in every key.
What he means is that on a keyboard you don’t have an easy move in an L shape as you do on a guitar. You have to play different chords and know the sequence for a piano.
This may be ABC of the electric guitar but some people actually have a hard time learning some of the things a lot of us find very easy. Everyone is different in learning ability and of course there are those with learning disabilities. I would be more understanding and patient with them. Sorry Jose Montenegro but you are right in some regard but your thinking is slightly off and inconsiderate when you say "if whoever comes around and can't jam a 12 blues bar bad news". We are all here to just have fun and do something different. Be happy and play music. 72 dislikes oh well you can't please everyone. Perhaps that was 72 people with the same thoughts as Jose. Oh and by the way, those Jose you came to this video lesson as well, what intrigued your curiosity, the title or did you have something to learn from it as well?
Hey Justin, thanks for a fab lesson learnt soo much soo quickly. Love a lesson along the same lines on how to solo over the cords using the associated pentatonic. Cheers from NZ.
finally a freaking teacher that explains things well! THANK YOU JUSTIN!
JUSTIN IS THE MAN!!!!!!! HE BRINGS HARD CHORDS AND SCALES AND MAKES THEM LOOK EASY!!!! GREAT TEACHER ASWELL SIMPLIFIES YOUR GOALS!!!!!

Fantastic. So simply put and explained. I wish you were around 25 years ago when I first tried to start playing. Will donate.

He has a good way of putting things across, always smiling and seeming enthusiastic.
Very helpful advice - I’ve learnt more from this one video since starting to dabble with the guitar more than 40 years ago!

What do you mean? Key signature is the same no matter the instrument, so whether you play on guitar or piano the 1,4,and 5 chord are the same.
What he means is that on a keyboard you don’t have an easy move in an L shape as you do on a guitar. You have to play different chords and know the sequence for a piano.
Gazza-usa oh, gotcha. You can still play it, it’s just harder to do.
Thanks, Justin. Great lesson, lots of tips in here. Thanks again.
