In all my years learning to play guitar I can confidently state that Den is easily the best guitar tutor out there. Simplification, clarification. precision & no ego trips. There is nothing more maddening when you're using tutorials online than coming across those regular tutors who wants to show off & demonstrate just how great they are on guitar & how they became so proficient by confusing you with all their complex references & mind blowing, over complicated approach to scales, minor, major, pentatonic, Aeolian, mixolydian etc etc as opposed to breaking things down in to their basic form so that you can easily understand & follow them & ultimately learn, grow & become a much better guitarist . Den is simply the best teacher out there & I highly recommend his tutorials on all aspects of guitar playing to any budding guitarists. This lesson here, that explains the CAGED system in its simplest format is testament to that. Keep up the good work Den. You're a top man.
This means so much to me. You can't even imagine ❤️THANK YOU❤️
TY villaxmas for Finding All the right Words to say (and cleanly) to say All the Things I wanted to say. I Absolutely concur!
Well Said Buddy!!!! Wellllllllll Said!!!!
100% agree. I played for 45 years and still learned something.
First CAGED book/lesson that hasn’t had my brain in meltdown. Thanks
Yeiiiii! So happy to hear this clicked, Tom❤️
Without a doubt the best explanation of the "CAGED" chord system I have ever seen. Thank you very much!!!!
I appreciate that! Thank you so much for watching and for taking the time to comment❤️
I'm 71 and have been trying to play for a little over 2 years. This was the BEST, most understandable explanation I have ever experienced. Thanks Den!!!
I'm so happy this has helped you, Gary! Thank you for watching and for your beautiful comment.
My goodness! FINALLY, someone actually can provide a simplified explanation of the caged system! At least one that I can understand it. Thank you Sir!!!!!
Let's go! Happy it finally clicked!
I've tried to understand CAGED for over a year wolith no luck. In about 15 minutes, you made it clear as a bell. Thank you very much. Great teacher
I'm so happy to hear this!!! Thank you so much for taking the time to write your comment. It means a lot.
Been playing since 6th grade. I'm 53. Clearest most concise explanations I've seen. Excellent, simple explanations.
I appreciate this, Bruce❤️ Thank you! 🙏
Hands down, the simplest explanation of "CAGED" I have ever seen. Great job!
We must have been watching at the same time. I have played off and on for 7 years. Every time I tried to learn the caged system my mind would either get cluttered with a bunch of mumbo jumbo, then I would get bored (not learning, anything wasting time) and quit the video. Thanks for the excellent video. I have got it now and will never forget it.
Fantastic! Thank you so much for both your comments! They mean a lot❤️
Thank you!!! ❤️
An absolutely brilliant lesson, you are an angel. I am 79. 😢. You just got me out of the CAGED. I was locked in. Now i understand what was that all about. Thanks a lot man.
Let's go!!!! This is awesome. ❤️
I've been trying hard to understand the CAGED SYSTEM for a while and hadn't really got a good grasp of it UNTIL NOW. YOU EXPLAINED it where It finally clicked. THANKS A MILLION!
LET'S GO!!! This is fantastic news! So happy this video helped you❤️
I already knew most of what you explained about CAGED, but I had thought that the arrangement of the letters was just because it spelled something you could pronounce and remember; I had no idea that the sequence of the letters was meaningful. Thanks for that! 🙂
I love it! So happy that part clicked!
I was always mystified about CAGED, despite having read the theory. Your lesson made the light bulb moment. Thank you!
AWESOME! So happy to hear this!
Dude , u something special!!!! I have been trying to make sense of caged for a long time!
I finally get it!!!!!
U are a fantastic teacher!!!!!!
Its just like i have learned a hundred more chords today , thats the impact of this lesson for me !
That is fantastic!!! Thank you so much for your comment, Adrian. ❤️❤️ I'm so happy for you!
I never learned via CAGED, and I don't like how a lot of people teach music theory, either. I just learned a ton of chords and songs, and got into chord voicings that are reduced parts of the good old 5 'cowboy chord' shapes around the fretboard. But I have a geometrically oriented mind: I recognize forms and shapes in different contexts. As for music theory, what finally set me on bigger paths was realizing: you need lab courses to go along with your lecture courses. We need to apply the academic learning as soon as possible.
Good luck with the channel. People seem to like it.
👍
I never realised that CAGED gave the order of the shapes needed as you move your chosen chord up the neck. Thanks for the lesson
The best CAGED lesson ever has been shown by tutor Den. Amazingly clear form with very simple explanation. I recommend everyone to watch this video if you are having a problem with CAGED forms or shapes!
Thank you😍
By far the clearest explanation of what the Caged systems and how it works. Thank you.
🤩 Thank you so much! I appreciate it!
Wow! This is the best and clearest explanation of CAGED in the TH-cam.
Thank you so much! So happy you liked it😍

So glad to hear you liked this one, Anna! Thank you so much for your comment🤗
Thank you very much for that simple and elegant presentation of the CAGED system. I have been trying to understand it for 4 years, but no luck until tonight. Excellent work Den.

Yes! So happy to hear this, Dave💪 I appreciate you taking the time to write a comment. It means a lot❤️
FINALLY! I have seen so many videos on this subject and was lucky if I came away with some partial glimmer of understanding. This is absolutely the best and clearest explanation I have ever watched. A sincere thank you!
This is fantastic! Thank you so much for taking the time to comment❤️ It really means a lot.
Easily the best, easiest to understand explanation of CAGED I've yet to see! Awesome job
Thank you so much! I appreciate your comment so much!
The best CAGED lesson ever has been. Thank you
Thank you so much!! Saw you comments on the other videos. I appreciate the love🤗
Probably the best explanation I’ve seen. Still leaves me with a feed Qs….
1. When or why would you play chords like that? They seem a nightmare to finger
2. How would you get quicker at finding those chords on the fretboards? I guess you need to know your fretboard notes first right?
Superb vid though, thank you 😊
Thank you for your questions!
1. You can break up those shapes into smaller chinks that are easier to fret
2. I use the intervals (notes that create each chord) to know where those shapes are. I'll record a video on that too👍
@@LearningGuitarSecrets Awesome, thank you
Outstanding. You have earned yourself a special place in guitar Heaven.
Thank you so much for this❤️
Easiest explanation I’ve seen yet and I’ve seen plenty. Thank you.
I appreciate you, Todd! Thank you for watching and for your comment. Both mean a lot.
Once again no one every explained the CAGED Shapes so clearly as you did. It clarifies to me how CAGED System funtions. Above all you showed so nicely how the chords look like. I admit that I have moved one step ahead with your lesson. Your are truely a good teacher.
Thank you!! I'm so happy this lesson has helped you😃 Keep rockin!
These TH-cam guitar teachers are gonna put a contract/hit on you! They tortured and confused us 60 and over beginners for years! Thank you Thank you! I just subscribed! Again thank you
Thank you so much for your comment! You made my day❤️
Thanks, I now understand caged, many times Ive picked up a book to learn it, got totaled confused and put it down, this video was an eye opener
A brilliant video. First time I've understood the CAGED System. Well Done. Paul Lucas.
This is fantastic, Paul! So happy to hear it clicked💪
Clear, precise and no ego distraction. Excellent.
Thank you! I appreciate this❤️
Hi, I am 61 and learning and found your explanation easier to understand the caged system.... thanks
Wohhooo! I'm so glad it helped you!
For me, this was a wonderful explanation of the CAGED system. Working with what was said and knowing the basic chord shapes is a gateway to understanding where to find chords and what shapes to use. Bravo!
Thank you so much! I appreciate your comment very much🤗
This is as perfect as most an explanations of the CAGED system that is great for beginning students to the guitar. I say well done for taking the time to distil the information in this way. Over the years I have read books and watched other videos on TH-cam and have felt some explanations were either slightly complicated or not simplistic enough to fully grasp in one viewing. This video profoundly solves all of that making it ever so clear.
Wow, your comment made my day, Simon! Thank you so much! 🙏
been playing over 50 years, great video... its always good to look at things from all angles, great angle!!
Thank you, John! I appreciate it😃
It took me literally years to understand caged, I woke up one morning and it all made total sense, I don't understand now why I couldn't grasp it for so long
Once it clicks...
That was excellent, now I just need to watch it a few more times, and maybe my old brain might maintain this great explanation. Thanks
thank you so much, Steve!
Outstanding explanation of the caged system, simple explanation for this student of the guitar to understand.Cut through the smoke and mirrors associated with sometimes confusing presentations of the past one has indured.
THANK YOU!!! ❤️ You taking the time to write such a fantastic comment means a lot❤️
So glad I discovered Den, have just took up guitar in my late fifties as a hobby. This guys simple but concise way of explaining things is really easy to follow, compared to most other TH-cam guitar tutors ive watched. Thanks Den, you've got another subscriber 👍
Aw man, this really means a lot. I appreciate you taking the time to write this, Jason❤️
ohh now the barre chord makes more sense! and the video isn't even over!! You make things simple to follow thanks!
So happy for you!!! Let me know what you think of it once it's over😊
The last 2 minutes were worth watching the rest. I have watched Molly Millers video repeatedly and finally seeing how the root notes connect the shapes ( with the barre ) But never understood how to use for other keys- starting with a chord other than the C chord. Thank you. 😊
So happy this video added value to Molly's🤗 and that it brought everything together💪
I'm never around anyone and I've used TH-cam to teach myself how to play guitar and one of my questions has been how do I play different chords all across the fret board. This has helped me more than any other video I've found. Thank you for making It simple. Most people that teach just like to show how good they are and that leaves me thinking I can't do It but you showed me I can.. Thanks a million.
I'm so happy this video helped you so much, Mark❤️ Thank you for your comment. It means a lot.
An other satisfied student here Den! New to your channel. Straight to the point! Yes!
Awesome, John!! Thank you so much for your support❤️
That’s one of the biggest things to get over is patterns and shapes but we tend to overthink it
Very well done! I've been a guitarist for a long time, but also teach. I've used the CAGED system for decades, but have always had a bit of a struggle on how to communicate it with my students. I like your method. In the meantime, I've also created a mental map on how to relate the CAGED shapes, Modal shapes, and Pentatonic shapes to each other. It's my belief that this will help keep my 70-year-old brain agile ;)
So happy to hear this! Thank you for your comment. It's great to hear from a fellow guitar coach👍
I will buy your book because you are a very good teacher of guitar.
Wow
That's fantastic! Let me know when it gets to you and how you like it! ❤️
@LearningGuitarSecrets Yes
I never realized this was the sequence of shapes.
Very helpful!
Awesome, Paul! So happy you got that breakthrough💪
Thank you much for your explanation, in after all these years I finally comprehend what the caged system is all about 🙏
Yes! So happy to hear it finally clicked💪🎉
Hello LGS the G shape can be divided to make comfortable to play EBGD strings of the shape. And just use DAE for Notes Arpeggios Triads etc Great explanation good Luck.
Hi, Michael. Yes of course! Of all them can be broken down💪 Thank you for sharing😊
Good explanation of The CAGED shapes. 🎸
Thanks for the thumbs up, Anthony! Means a lot!
Thank you Den. This is the first explanation that makes me understand the CAGED system!!!!🙏🏽🥳👏🏼
Wohoooo! So happy it clicked😍
Such a great vid w a clear explanation. I knew about “moving” shapes up the fretboard. Finally put it all together. Thanks.
AWESOME! So happy it all came together for you🎉
I knew this about caged system but enjoyed watching you teach this clearly and it helped a lot of fellow guitarists. Next is to show the pentatonic scale patterns that go with each shape. Good stuff! Subbed.
Yes! You are exactly right💪 Once you can associate each scale pattern to a chord shape you're absolutely rockin'!!
Nice lesson. And as an added bonus, anyone playing along can now play the very start of The Song Remains The Same
👍
Genial 👍 🙏
Greetings from the sunny climes of Basle, Switzerland
Hello from Barcelona, Spain!
Ive been playing for a long time.. You literally just exposed the biggest enigma in guitar playing. Mind blown 🤯
Thank you!
Let's GOOOO! So happy for you😍 Thank you for letting me know this video helped you😃
You were tired 😉 but didn’t waste your Time! Everything is cristal clear. So Thaaaaank you so much for this marvelous explanation. ❤
Thank you for watching till that point of the video. It means a lot to know someone watches all the way through❤️
Excellent thank you.
So happy you liked it😀
Excellent!!! Makes it so clear. Thanks a million.
You're welcome! So happy it helped you, Wayne🤩
There must be other reasons why shapes are bundled into C>A>G>E>D order (and not randomly EAGCD or DEGAC). Like from high to lower keys on Piano. Or sharing fingers! (I think I thaw it)
Because the chord shapes follow that sequence. You could also call it AGEDC if you start on an A, or GEDCA if you start on a G, but it's more difficult to pronounce.
Clear, concise and simple. Thank you!
So happy you liked it!
Well done! Concisely informative, thank you!
Thank you!
I have never comented on any guitar totorial in my life to you i say good thank you.
I really appreciate your comment❤️ It means a lot!
As a teacher you're a natural, great explanation of CAGED.
I appreciate this, Juan! Thank you for watching and commenting🙂
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, for sharing this knowledge - it has made sense of so many videos that didn’t explain this as clearly as you have.
AWESOME!!!! I'm so happy for you! thank you so much for your comment. It means a lot❤️
Hey, you just opened the cage, I can fly ..well almost! Great stuff ! :)
Awesome!!! So glad to hear this!
Great explanation. I would suggest to all my fellow players to learn where the root note is for each of the chord shapes; makes it easier to figure out which shape to use depending upon where you are playing on the neck.
True! Knowing your 1-3-5's is also very helpful to transform your chords 💪
Enjoyed the lesson. Straight to the point and explained very well.
Thank you, Michael!
Thanks, great explanation. Now to try to implement it in my playing.
Thank you!
Also while realizing that you already covered a ton of information (especially for those new to CAGED)
On your next CAGED lesson you may want to make a segment on the upper and lower parts of the “G” shaped chords which can be easier on the fretting hand, but just as nice sounding.
Thank you. This will also come in handy with the C shape👍
Just excellent tutorial. You definitely made it all come together by breaking this down by using simple and logical explanation. Thank you so much.
I am so happy this brought it all home, Janet❤️
Loved it - thank you, now to practice it!
Thank you so much, Keith! I appreciate you leaving a comment and watching through it ❤️
Fantastic lesson and gave me my eureka moment. Thank you for sharing

@@LearningGuitarSecrets Can CAGED system be applied for minor chords?
I was trying to avoid this CAGED thing but I finally get it now. It's kind of like that "light bulb" thing going off over 💡my head. Thanks for the knowledge. Subscribed!!!
Awesome, Richard! I'm so happy it finally clicked😃
This video added the final piece to me understanding the caged system, thanks so much!
Awesome! So glad to hear it helped you❤️
Great video! Very helpful
So happy you liked it! You guys rock!

Best video that I have ever watched on the CAGED system and how it works.
Thank you so much for your comment. It made my day! Thank you! 🙏
That was a great tutorial. Thumbs up
Thank you so much!
Well done, even I was able to get this, thanks!
This is awesome! So happy you liked it🤗
I learned something new about the CAGED system (I know about the using cord shapes), the sequence of the letters (caged) shows which shape is next up the board for the same cord.
Yes! Exactly! 💪
That was absolutely beautiful and brilliant! Thank You very much, new subscriber!❤
Thank you so much, Michael! I appreciate the love🎉
You are my new favourite channel! Thanks😂
Thank you, Philip! Means a lot!
Great explanation. Thank you man.👍
Thank you so much for your comment. It means a lot. Happy you liked the video ❤️
Nailed it. Thank you!
Thank you, Brad! Saw your other comment too🤗 I appreciate you watching❤️
Fantastic and easy!
So glad you liked it! Thanks for your comment! 🎉
Beautiful explanation! It's not necessary to fret the 1st string on the G shape, as it repeats the note on the 6th string. Likewise it is not necessary to fret the 5th or 6th string on the D shape, as the root is on the 4th string. This makes the finger gymnastics much easier.
Happy you liked it, David! Fretting different strings gives you different sounds. Just a matter of taste👍
This has made it all make sense!
Wohoooo! This is fantastic, Sean🎉
Many thanks Den. You just managed to pull together all my disjointed understanding of chords, shapes and the fretboard.
AWESOME! So happy to hear this! Thank you so much for letting me know this video helped you❤️
Was just thinking when you will do this vid. Well done
Thank you!!!
