    In all my years learning to play guitar I can confidently state that Den is easily the best guitar tutor out there. Simplification, clarification. precision & no ego trips. There is nothing more maddening when you're using tutorials online than coming across those regular tutors who wants to show off & demonstrate just how great they are on guitar & how they became so proficient by confusing you with all their complex references & mind blowing, over complicated approach to scales, minor, major, pentatonic, Aeolian, mixolydian etc etc as opposed to breaking things down in to their basic form so that you can easily understand & follow them & ultimately learn, grow & become a much better guitarist . Den is simply the best teacher out there & I highly recommend his tutorials on all aspects of guitar playing to any budding guitarists. This lesson here, that explains the CAGED system in its simplest format is testament to that. Keep up the good work Den. You're a top man.

      We must have been watching at the same time. I have played off and on for 7 years. Every time I tried to learn the caged system my mind would either get cluttered with a bunch of mumbo jumbo, then I would get bored (not learning, anything wasting time) and quit the video. Thanks for the excellent video. I have got it now and will never forget it.

    I never learned via CAGED, and I don't like how a lot of people teach music theory, either. I just learned a ton of chords and songs, and got into chord voicings that are reduced parts of the good old 5 'cowboy chord' shapes around the fretboard. But I have a geometrically oriented mind: I recognize forms and shapes in different contexts. As for music theory, what finally set me on bigger paths was realizing: you need lab courses to go along with your lecture courses. We need to apply the academic learning as soon as possible.
    Good luck with the channel. People seem to like it.

    Probably the best explanation I’ve seen. Still leaves me with a feed Qs….
    1. When or why would you play chords like that? They seem a nightmare to finger
    2. How would you get quicker at finding those chords on the fretboards? I guess you need to know your fretboard notes first right?
    Superb vid though, thank you 😊

    • @LearningGuitarSecrets
      @LearningGuitarSecrets  25 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      Thank you for your questions!
      1. You can break up those shapes into smaller chinks that are easier to fret
      2. I use the intervals (notes that create each chord) to know where those shapes are. I'll record a video on that too👍

    This is as perfect as most an explanations of the CAGED system that is great for beginning students to the guitar. I say well done for taking the time to distil the information in this way. Over the years I have read books and watched other videos on TH-cam and have felt some explanations were either slightly complicated or not simplistic enough to fully grasp in one viewing. This video profoundly solves all of that making it ever so clear.

I like your method. In the meantime, I've also created a mental map on how to relate the CAGED shapes, Modal shapes, and Pentatonic shapes to each other. There must be other reasons why shapes are bundled into C>A>G>E>D order (and not randomly EAGCD or DEGAC). Like from high to lower keys on Piano. Or sharing fingers! (I think I thaw it)

    • @LearningGuitarSecrets
      @LearningGuitarSecrets  25 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Because the chord shapes follow that sequence. You could also call it AGEDC if you start on an A, or GEDCA if you start on a G, but it's more difficult to pronounce.

    Also while realizing that you already covered a ton of information (especially for those new to CAGED)
    On your next CAGED lesson you may want to make a segment on the upper and lower parts of the “G” shaped chords which can be easier on the fretting hand, but just as nice sounding.

    I learned something new about the CAGED system (I know about the using cord shapes), the sequence of the letters (caged) shows which shape is next up the board for the same cord.

    Beautiful explanation! It's not necessary to fret the 1st string on the G shape, as it repeats the note on the 6th string. Likewise it is not necessary to fret the 5th or 6th string on the D shape, as the root is on the 4th string. This makes the finger gymnastics much easier.

      Happy you liked it, David! Fretting different strings gives you different sounds. Just a matter of taste👍
