I’ve played for about the same amount of time and think I know exactly what you are talking about. I could play songs that I memorized but now I can at the very least make a simple melody out of thin air. TH-cam is great for guitar players. Never been a better time to learn an instrument.
.. and to think I knew about the 12 Blues bars and I knew then main tip was: learn the blues = then play ANYTHING else with ease! Discovered it was true after 40 years! Probably the best kept secret by any school !!!
Same. Noodled from 16 to 20, not really understanding most of what I was playing. Stopped till I was 33, now I've just started again with Justin guitars and active melody. Also learning as many songs that you love is a great way, then mix those lovely chords together to make your own songs.
Thank you Justin. Simple explanation with great examples. One day, Justin Sandercoe will be inducted into the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame, for his influence on future Hall of Famers. Incredible lessons.
Came to refresh my memory with this one. I started to play guitar ~10 years ago with Justin's beginner course. Really enjoyed it even though my taste in music is different than some of the stuff. Such a great teacher.

Many thanks, been searching for "learn to play the blues on guitar" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Wanichael Corylexander Equalizer - (search on google ) ? Ive heard some super things about it and my buddy got cool results with it.
Hi Justin, great video. Just wondering, why do you use E7, A7, D7 as opposed to the normal form? I don't think that gets explained. Is it just because 7 chords sound better over blues?
Short answer: yes. A dominant 7th chord is formed by taking the regular chord (steaps 1-3-5 of the scale) and adding a flattened 7th step. The bread and butter of the blues is playing this kind of chords (mixed with regular majors) and improving with a minor pentatonic scale. Sounds interesting? Can you help me? I feel stuck on the guitar, like I dont know what to learn next. I'm a beginner and I know a lot of basic chords except for barre chords, I know some simple fingerpicking patterns. I think I want to continue on with finger style, but I dont know what to do next.
If I were in your shoes, I'd learn songs that are slightly out of my league, thus, maintaining excitement as it would be challenging, preferably a song that even has 1 barre chord at least so that it would actually get me started on incorporating them into my playing.
Hello Princess....go to Andy Guitar and look at his lesson of IMAGINE...also BLACKBIRD is actually easier than you think....look up "super easy guitar/John Lee Blackmore".....Justins site is good, but I think the two I mentioned are more beginner friendly IMO.. good wishes to you, stick to it, you will soon be playing like you would not believe....Peace and Love

First off, huge fan! Been watching on and off since the earliest days when you were just requesting donations. Even sent some in. I can play a lot of stuff if people show me, but trying to get a little more familiar with the theory behind it. I'm getting hung up on the notes when trying to play the songs. Example: Sky is Crying Key of D. Where is the "D" as my I note and therefore Where is the G, A for my IV and V? Thanks!

Question from 55 years of playing. Why the '7' chords? Is there a reason or does it just sound more interesting?
Sorry. This was answered earlier.
Does it matter what chords i use?

LOL In my song, I was bending an entire B7 chord & popped the high e into the B nut slot lol
Newbie here, I had to look up the C7 chord...
You really talk a lot ❤

Didn’t mention using metronome?😮
If Justin ever listens!!! my dumb question is why blues cord progressions in key of A is A7 D7 E7 and not A E D. Please anybody can answer this. 🤯😏

Helpful but this really needs tabs to go along with it. Or at least show a picture of the chords on the screen as they are being played.

Lmaoo why

I usually see the "slow change" referred to as the "long V"
Why is he playing 7 chords? If he's playing in A, shouldn't it be A, D, and E? Why A7, D7 and E7?

Aww ..sweetheart...u r so sweet

Too much
Why E7 A7 and D7, why don’t you just call them D flat G flat and B (no flat C)?
Because those are different chords.
title says "for beginners", one minute in and he's talking about complicated music theory
Not too complicated to be honest, have you figured it out yet 1hr later 😅
