Congratulations on the launch of this new project, but I'm a little disappointed. I would have liked to hear your sensual cigarette-smoking voice with a transatlantic or Antonio Banderas accent. 😂
It was really nice to see this collaboration, I discovered your channel I few weeks ago and I’m completely happy to listen to Quetzal and you in the same video 😭😭😭💜💜
I'm so glad your video popped up in my suggestions. I'm an older American Whovian (since around the late-1970s). Back then, only weird (read also: queer) people were extremely into the show, so the subtext was there if you caught the vibe. Thanks for your vibrant delivery and editing. I'm very excited to see more.
One of the most brilliant analyses that I have watched on this show that I think so much of. Subscribed and looking forward to more from you ! When the kiss between the 15th Doctor and the Bounty Hunter came, it was beautiful... and I can only imagine what might have been between the T3th Doctor & Yas, if the audiesnce and the studios had been as ready as I was. Steamy thoughts!
I loved this video. Thank you for making it. I googled the Karvanista Dan art. Wow. That is some damn good work for sure. I can't wait for the next part. I love your dry wit, Quetzel. I nearly died laughing at "This is Quetzel, buggering off"
es impresionante como ver series en VOSE ha hecho que al final el tostón de la gramática del colegio tuviese alguna utilidad y me alegro que sea contigo :)
Oh, what a coincidence that I came across this wonderful video on a very interesting topic. I will definitely subscribe to this channel, I am convinced that there will be many other wonderful videos. And all in the beautiful language of English, which is great! Meaningful hugs from La Floresta...
I am super surprised you didn't touch upon Jamie and the Second Doctor! Perhaps a follow up? This was great regardless and I'll check out your future Doccy Who videos.
Great video, thank you for making it! Writing the comment for this "algorithm" guy. As an asexual, I personally always found comfort in "Doctor Who" (both oldschool, nuwho, nu-nuwho and all). Doctor is always a character who is, if not always asexual, at least very ace-coded (even in their romance, because in romance they are more demisexual then heterosexual, I'm thinking about 10th and Rose or 11/12 with River and/or 13th and Yaz), so... That video was basically perfect imo lol
Thanks for this video! Oh God, the memories that come flooding back. I had been connected creatively to the series for a year when John Nathan-Turner took over and I did the first US interviews with him and Peter Davison. We were definitely trying to see what we could get away with under the radar. Being the first Trans person (at least as far a JNT knew) to create material for the series, I was always trying slip some representation in there. JNT felt he could get away with certain things if they had 'camp' camouflage but he had an annoying tendency to go a little too campy for the show's own good. I had numerous arguments with him over that. Eventually, it led to me pulling away a bit during the last two seasons, resulting in my having less direct influence on the series. A lot of what I said must have gotten through because a number of changes made during that time, particularly in the last series, were things we'd argued about since he took over the show. I still think that had BBC let the series continue, it would have built upon those successes and the domestic viewing figures would have gone up. Having said that, I think the decision to it a rest was ultimately the right thing to do. I don't think we could have gotten the series to where it was during the David Tennant/Matt Smith run if the series had kept running that whole time. Looking at the most recent series, it feels like RTD² is almost doing a soft reboot of his own first series from 2005. There are a lot of elements from the Eccleston series that seem to be showing up over the course of this series. I mean, could Rogue be a more blatant copy of Captain Jack? Anyway, sorry for the length but a really great video! Looking forward to more!
That's very interesting to hear. Actually I'd like to know more, I am working on a bigger Doctor Who project and I am very, VERY interested on any behind the scenes anecdotes, specially regarding things like queer representation and politics. With all its faults, the JNT era is one of the most interesting ones, probably because of all the hardships endured. Could I have contact information for a brief interview if all is alright?
@@QuetzalattheDiner-ic1wy Absolutely! Love to. I've been working on getting my own channel running and this would be just kick in the arse I need to finally throw the switch. There should be a business contact email in my channel info (and if there isn't, there will be in just a second).
Jon being asexual still is queer representation, but he'd been referred to as a "dandy" by the First Doctor as well. Either way, his flourish IS unmistakable. I'm glad to find your channel and your narration is as velvety as it is witty.
Was Jon Pertwee ace? I never knew that, is there a source? It seems a bit unlikely he would declare himself asexual in those times, then again I don't know much about his personal life.
I'm a lifelong fan of Doctor/Master homoerotic tension and velvet is also definitely my kink. Add to that how excellent your narration and script are, and you have an instant new subscriber 🥳
See the hate within you? Somebody dares to disagree and you brand them a 'homophobe' - disgusting. Just accept Classic Who contains no gay element whatsoever and save your pathetic, made up words of insult for the REAL homophobes who I gather, will cause you more distress than challenging your nonsensical interpretation of Classic Who...
Wonderful video. Always wonderful to see more furry (or furry adjacent I don't jump to conclusions) folk in the Doctor Who space. Either way you get this Doctor Who loving bears seal of approval
Great work... but no passing mention of Revelation of the Daleks? With the clearly queer coded double act, and the GAYEST extermination ever. Maybe a vid pointing out the gay actors in the classic era, as there have been a few... including one who was fictionalized into RTD's "It's a Sin"
You'll be sponsored by Nebula in no time Quetzal. After that the next milestone is being invited to a podcast with Second Thought or some other bread tuber, good luck. 🐈⬛
Can't believe you made a video on queer representation in Classic Doctor Who and didn't mention the 2nd Doctor and Jamie. You have a great voice though.
@@QuetzalattheDiner-ic1wy Well its very much an interpretation, so its completely fair if you don't see it, but many people do. This may help: th-cam.com/video/FNA3bIob2Aw/w-d-xo.html&pp=ygUoMm5kIGRjb3RvciAgYW5kIGphbWllIG9sZCBtYXJyaWVkIGNvdXBsZQ%3D%3D
Hi furrito manfloro im from argentina! my name is felipe, i have 30 years old and my favourite hobbies are watching movies, listen to rock music, cheer viva peron! and go to my soccer team stadium.
No mention of Jamie and the Second Doctor's actors deliberately playing their characters as a gay for each other as they could away with? Wierd miss in an otherwise fantastic video
Suerte! TH-cam recommended this to me despite my not watching much Spanish stuff. Please put trigger warnings if you are going to show pictures of Margaret Thatcher again, though these pictures caught her pleasant side. Jon Pertwee went to a public school, served in the Navy and was a prolific actor on stage and screen. He almost certainly knew of gay practices even if he had not indulged. His flamboyant dress as the Dr was inspired by the sexual ambiguity (compared to the fashion codes of the 1950s) shown by many musicians and other culture icons from the psychedelic bands of the '60s to Bowie and Bolan. The story of Turing ending himself is a common one but not the best interpretation of the facts. He was experimenting with electroplating and was notorious for being a bit sloppy - he seems to have accidentally poisoned himself. The coroner hated gays and assumed that any decent man would prefer death to living as a gay. Alan Garner's well-written tale paints Turing as a victim, which he almost certainly was not. Garner was not there around the time of Turing's end. Jack Copeland is the Director of the Turing Archive for the History of Computing and tells a very different story. The famous photo of Turing looking glum that is always used to illustrate articles is one of a set - some of which show him laughing.

My accent is Spanish enough as it is!
I'm reminded of Antonio Bandaras in Puss in Boots.
Quetzal speaking english sounds like Zizek without severe nasal problems.
