I find this period of Doctor Who fascinating, and this video filled in so many gaps in my own knowledge and understanding of what happened. Paul McGann as Doctor Who will always hold a special place in my heart ❤
I love this viewing figures series of yours, but this and the one before might be my favorites. As a 25 year old, I didn't experience any of the wilderness years as i found Doctor Who in 2007 over here in America. It is the era of the show I am most fascinated by, so breaking down almost every single release during the time is perfect. THIS is what i have wanted in documentaries about the off years that I have found lacking. Awesome work Adam!
Hiya Adam! I just want to thank you for this amazing series. I’ve watched every instalment so far and I’ve adored everything. I’ve loved it so much that I am currently in the editing process of doing my own thing with the Doctor Who repeats. It’s going to be a series as I’ll be going through everything single one which has broadcast across the globe. This is what your videos can do to your fans… You made me want to make my own series and I’m loving it so far. Thank you :)
It’s amazing to see this series back. I absolutely loved these videos back in 2021, honestly feels like the wilderness years in terms of waiting seemingly forever for this series, can’t wait for more.
A new episode…at last… These are the best kinds of videos to throw on when you want to just kick back and relax and learn about stuff without it feeling like a lot. (Also, I’m surprised in the 2003 segment you didn’t mention the Daleks made a cameo in that year’s ‘Looney Tunes: Back in Action’. Granted, they were the ones from the Peter Cushing “Dr. Who” movies, but they did exterminate Marvin the Martian at one point, so that’s something.)
That was really interesting - thank you! I'd never even heard of BBC Choice before. I hope the new links are released on the Blu Ray Collection for 8th Doctor and Wilderness Years (including all documentaries and shows during that time). And I always remember buying Legacy of the Daleks when it first came out ... along with a Billie Piper CD (Because We Want To). Who knew?
While I started watching Doctor Who in 2010, I feel like I missed out on an uplifting few years in 2003-2004 when the New Series was announced. I’ll always appreciate the effort the Doctor Who Restoration Team and home video crew put into the DVDs, even during that time where it seemed the show was only getting older and less popular. That original DVD menu from 1999 looks a bit tacky today, but it’s cool that they brought back that idea of the menus being the TARDIS console for the early New Series boxsets and Collection blu rays.
I’ve been anticipating for this video for a long while, but this was the period of time I became a doctor who fan. My earliest exposure was i vaguely seeing the repeats on BBC Two 1999/2000. (Because i normal I would watch The Simpsons and Robot Wars bbc 2 evenings) I was 4 years old at the time, If I remember i saw a Jon Pertwee story but I’m not sure which one it was. But i do remember seeing an episode of Genesis of the Daleks, just sitting down with the family and being quite scared at the time (probably of the theme music). But it wasn’t til i was 6/7 years old I properly got into Doctor Who, through one of the Dalek films and going down to my local library and borrowing the vhs tapes. The Five Doctors was my first story I watched. I also was fortunate enough to have a next door neighbour who liked Doctor who as well, he had a box full of mostly Tom Baker stories and i use to go down and Cherry pick a story to watch together. I didn’t see Scream of the Shalka until i got the dvd of it back in 2013. All I remembered was seeing the trailers advertised after The Simpsons finished. But this video definitely brings some nostalgia back, thanks mate 😉👍
These videos are so well put together, thanks Adam! I know they must take a LOT of work to research and make, but the love that goes into them really shines through. As someone who grew up in the Wilderness Years these two felt very nostalgic, though I'd started to drift away from the fandom a little bit by the early 2000s when I was in my teens (thankfully I saw the error of my ways and the 2005 revival dragged me right back in). Also you've inspired me to go and relisten to Bang-Bang-A-Boom, which I'm gonna do right now
I still remember the night we recorded Doctor who night back in 1999 on vhs, and i watched it religiously!! Also recorded stories i had never seen before off uk gold, even tho they would be shown in omnibus format and usually during the middle of the night!! it was tough staying up to record all 6 episodes of 'The Mutants' from 1am to 4am hahaha had to do the same for invasion of the dinosaurs
Another great video, thanks! I'm curious, there was no mention of BBV productions in these Wilderness Years videos. Is it because they aren't officially part of the show? Despite this, I think they were a critical part of the Wilderness Years and keeping fans engaged!
I love the curse of fatal death and the Richard e grant doctor who story with him as the ninth doctor and the TV movie and everything in the eighth doctor era and I am going to track down the eight doctor novels and the destiny of the doctor game and uk running doctor who repeats and the five doctor special edition dvd which came out in 1999 which was the first doctor who dvd released ever and I love dimension in time that came out in 1993 and scream of the shallka every doctor who repeat on BBC two and every doctor who story resalesed on dvd

Oh my god! Yes, I’ve been anticipating this part of the Dr Who Viewing Figures series. Thanks for doing this part Adam.👍👍👍
My pleasure!

Great to see this series back. What a great end to the night after a long shift
A wonderful video thank you.
Lovely trip down memory lane. It was the best of times and the worst of times...
