mini 4 pro because of less noise and little attention drawing of land owners. with more batteries and needing no zoom those items are no criteria for me.
@@greenogre22 I agree. I have a mini for pro and a Mavic Air 2, and I find use my mini for pro much more frequently because it is quiet and I don’t want to draw attention to my drone.
DJI, please add the ability for Active Track to recognize a motorcycle!
My mini 3 track my motorbike, presumably dito mini 4 & air 3
I Have one of the Mini series but chose the Air 3 mainly for the wind resistance (Live on a very windy island) and the extra lens for my work as a real estate photographer

I had DJI phantom, then Yuneeq Q500 drone like back in the years, and bought DJI Mini 3 Pro like half year ago.. Today I bought Air 3 Fly more combo with RC2.. Im impressed with Mini 3 Pro, cant wait Air 3 arrival by delivery in few days. Gonna go test with my tesla also! Been in business long time with RC's but I found the spark again in my on/off relationship with drones again. :P Tech gone forward with huge steps lately.

Man, thank you so much for the awesome reviews. I fly a mini 2, but I am eager to upgrade. I've been torn between these two, but I think this proves air 3 is for me. I am really counting on active track for my solo filming while working. I'm am curious, if you put it into a slow orbit with active track, would it just keep doing that until the rth kicks in? I would have loved if you switched to Sport mode and not just stayed in Normal mode... I think the performance would have been much better on both drones.
which one is better depends on what you need the drone for. the mini 4 pro did well in comparison. battery and zoom are no real criteria for people who don‘t mind having more batteries or being aware that you can fly towards things with a drone. i never use the zoom because i always try to get the best quality out of a picture so i can zoom in later on the desk. if you use this drone for evaluating landscape elements for instance then the mini 4 pro is the best drone ever because you have the best little drone with little noise and little attention of land owners who doesn‘t really like people flying over their properties.

Hi, great video. Just a quick question, when using the tracking feature, will the drone adjust its altitude as the subject goes up/down a hill? Hope that makes sense
Yes. All it does it look at the object trying to keep it the same size in the middle.
Still interested to see how well is it tracking a motorcycle.

One thing I would note: for those who are trying to decide what drone to buy, and want to use this feature, I would say that it depends on the size of the subject...and the speed of the subject travelling. For people, people on bikes and similar smaller objects, the Mini 4 Pro hands down. That's what I intend for my Mini 4 Pro. For cars, larger objects, and tracking at higher speeds, then Air, Mavic and Inspire series. The size and speed of the subject determines which size drone is for best use. It really is all about the intentions of the creator. But as always, DJI is an incredible company with incredible products. Insightful and very helpful as always, Sir!!

Put in sports in tracking and it will go up to 40mph and it keeps obstacle avoidance on.

Been watching your videos awhile now, and you always seem to be in these breath talking locations, what country sre you in. Great video as always. What is kind if interesting is that the air3 is rated at 47 miles an hour mini4 i think 35, so you going 30 the air3 should have no problem but it doesn't seem that way, I have the air3 and if there is wind you are not getting 47mph.. my air3 tracks great from height but introduce any obstacle at lower height while tracking. It will most likely crash. It seems it priorities tracking over obstacle avoidance or the chip is not fast enough to do both efficiently. Also have the mini3 pro and I can't say the air3 with all it sensors tracks better in fact the air3 crashed while tracking in a location I use the mini3 to track me all the time
Oh that’s disappointing, I know the drones do slow down when the sensors are on especially when close to the ground. The air and mini 4 is more cautious when tracking but I feel it keeps lock better than the Mini 3 pro and with the side sensors much more piece of mind.

Do you know how parallel track works? It's not attempting to keep to the side of the car at all times, it keeps the drone at a constant angle to it (geographical orientation). Say if you start by going north with your car, and the drone is to your east tracking you. If you make a left hand turn towards the west, the drone will still keep due east from your car.
When you said the Mini 4 Pro was falling behind as you accelerated to 30 mph, it looked as though you were also going through a slight left hand bend, so that partly explains it. Another part is of course the fact that the drone's maximum speed in N mode is just under 27 mph.
I don't have a DJI , but to my knowledge it is all optical. What you are describing is follow-me. Follow-me 'compass type' to be precise. So either you are right and it uses follow-me for a vehicle, or it uses both active-track and follow-me a the same time.
Unfortunately all these DJI drone reviewers don't have a clue what follow-me is and how it can and should work. All they know is active-track.
@@driewiel It is indeed all optical. The terminology is another thing, I'm just describing what the drone's user manual says.
@@olabergvall3154 If it doesn't look at the GPS coordinates of your phone/controller, then how it it supposed to know what is north south east west? And that is follow-me.
But maybe it is possible the drone uses both at the same time? I have wondered that for a while. For example the Skydio seems to find the shortest way to you even it it visually loses you, avoiding obstacles while ding so. Another thing I wasn't sure about is if obstacle avoidance only works with active-track, and for that reason DJI refuses to add follow-me as well?
But you understand what I'm getting at. If indeed what you described is true, and it will stay in geographical orientation, then it can only do so in follow-me mode. And don't forget the drone has to stay within 50 meters legally in tracking mode.
@@driewiel Well since I'm talking about active track, not follow me, the controller and its location is irrelevant. The drone can track a totally different person or vehicle of course, irrespective of the controller's position.
So: To then be able to always stay (for example) due east of whatever it's tracking, the drone would use its compass, gps positioning, and direction, including heading, to determine where it needs to go next in order to still be due east of the subject, depending on where the subject goes.
Say the subject is just traveling northbound in a straight line. The drone is positioned to the right of it, and facing it. As the subject moves north, the drone calculates it's going to have to move north also to keep the subject in frame, and at the same relarive distance.
Then let's say the subject starts turning west, which would be away from the drone. So the drone catches that the subject is getting smaller, which means the drone (while also knowing that facing west to the subject is the thing to do) will know that in addition to its northbound trajectory, it will have to adjust and start going westward also.
In other terms, the drone, knowing its heading and thus which way the camera is facing, while also keeping a subject center frame, will always be able to tell where it is relative to the subject. Both cardinal direction and relative distance.
@@olabergvall3154 I am going to watch some video of a DJI tracking a car and come back to you. I want to see for myself if it stays in compass position relative to the object just by using the camera.
This winter, I tested the mini 4 Active tracking on a skier. I would say it does not work with this activity.
The zig-zag skiing pattern probably confused your drone 🤔
Are using variable ND filters worth it?
They avoid having to carry lots of filers with you yes. I prefer the Mega Pack tho as it has everything I need
I don’t think it makes any difference if either John cannot keep up with you when you’re going through 40 miles an hour all you have to do is speed it up in post processing. I go 15 to 20 miles an hour and then just speed it up anyway when you use Area footage this way your clips aren’t gonna be more than 5 to 7 seconds anyway.

@DMProductions yeah , I've been lovvying dji devs to suggest it to add it as a optional feature , let us assign it a hot key FN ( c1 / c2 button ) . Would take away 14 steps to do the same thing 😅
Maven has the update homepoint button right in the middle. Because indeed it is a very important function for safety. So that people don't start racing their vehicle like idiots to where it took off before a truck runs it over.

The tracking will always be good, try doing this with other cars passing you especially at a distance .. this is where I found it not to be reliable. especially if you have a grey/black coloured car
so as long as there isn't a single thing around it for 2 kilometres it works
At that speed you can forgot all about obstacle avoidance. But you can always move to the Gobi desert.
Air 3 is just a better drone all around, definitely worth the extra $300-$400 over the mini 4 pro.

I tried tracking my Truck with my Mavic 3 and it's just too far away to be useful. Come on DJI, get your $hit together

You have to remember your in a Tesla that accelerates to 60mph in under 2 sec against a drone thats not designed for that
Even with that I think both did exceptionally good. Especially keeping lock at the high speeds

Good test . Maybe the battery plus (3850 mAh) min 30 minutes of flight will help for M4P (I saw battery 5200mAh). Good luck
