I bought a KK2 last year. The only problem I had with it was the buttons would stick. When I took the controller apart, the buttons all had the flashing (cutaway plastic) still attached like they had been twisted out of a plastic mold tree by a kid with their first model kit that didn't know about flush cutters or sandpaper. By that time, Gulikit had acknowledged the problem and was shipping replacement buttons upon request. I decided against that and fixed it myself by sanding them smooth. I will say that for as much features they have crammed inside, they are by far some of the simplest to take apart and put back together. It is by far my most favorite gamepad of all time. The shells are also incredibly strong, so they feel about as indestructible as an old Nokia phone.
The best feature is the auto sleep function. Pressing a button will wake the gamepad and a Nintendo Switch, but moving a thumbstick around won't. It would actually power off after 5 minutes if I was looking at the map and planning my route in Zelda but didn't hit any other buttons. It got annoying a couple times, but the real reason for it is to save battery on the controller and Switch. If you throw this thing in a bag or if you're lazy like me and it gets random objects stacked or bumped against it on a table, it won't necessarily turn on your Switch unintentionally. That being said, the case it comes with prevents that ever being an issue, and I highly recommend using the included case for it.

I have mine king kong 2 pro and had the same problem with two face buttons sticking, it was the switches itself. That got me frustrated(like barely a month after I started using this happened).
I bought replacement switches, and guess what, one of the brand new switches also got sticky after couple of days. at least one of the other ones in the box worked fine, but man... the quality control of those switches are horrible, I hope this new facebutton switches from the kk3 fixed this problem, because I will buy one (even after all those problems, still the kk2 pro is the best controller I've ever used).

I am still waiting for a Hall Effect Pad with xbox layout (most often used in PC games). Every single hall effect pad so far uses Switch XY buttons placement. Also fun fact: Did you know that old PS1/PSX Dual Shock Controller does not have (and never will have) joystick drift, despite using very old technology ? It is because every time you move it, it calibrates itself. Mind blowing, right ? Somehow, back then in 1997 they could make it, but now it seems like they want to have a "planned obsolescence" so that you will keep buying new controllers. Notice how even the most expensive Sony & MS official game pads do not have hall effect joysticks up to this date.

Just curious, does the back buttons work on the Steam Deck OS? I discover the back buttons for the 8bitdo are not programmable and easily recognized out of the box on Steam Deck OS. Oh, and another thing I would appreciate a test for is the bluetooth latency. I have tried 8bitdo, ps 4, ps 5, and xbox controllers over bluetooth and for me, the xbox and ps 5 controller feels the most responsive. The ps 4 controller is not too bad, but with 8bitdo the bluetooth connection is defnitely laggy and, for me, useable for platformers or fast action games. I wonder how this controller stack up against those. Maybe you could do a video that specifically tests all the different joypads you typically used for PC gaming? I play a lot of metroidvanias and fighting games...so low latency is important.

Question on the software. So with the xbox controller to a PC, you can hit the Xbox button and it brings up a controller settings overview, and the battery level. Does this have anything like that? Can you see the battery level somehow?

Weirdly specific question: If you push one of the sticks all the way to the left or right and then release it, does it snap back hard enough to create a spurious input in the opposite direction? This is a problem I've had with both the Xbox Elite and Elite 2 controllers, and it drives me nuts in certain games.

I've had the first KK controller. The face buttons are sticky so no go for fighting/action games and the rubber-like coating would disintegrate when trying to clean with ethyl alcohol. I moved to 8bitdo's ultimate controller as it had better facebuttons and triggers than the original KK. Would like to try this one soon.

10:30 I have the KingKong 2 Pro, I absolutely hate the buttons, I need low response time clicking and its downright awful for that (There's a very noticeable delay compared to Switch Joy-Cons, which have tactile domes); For casual use, it's fine, but whenever I need low response time, it's unusuable.
And I've had issues with stick drift while "No Dead Zone Mode" is enabled, it'll randomly drift up, although moving the joystick around usually fixes it.

  • @Ness_and_Sonic

I kind of wish they'd go for a SFC color scheme for the buttons with symmetrical sticks as I wouldn't mind having a PlayStation 3 or Wii U designed controller with Hall Effect Sensors and features Switch Pro controller mode while connecting so I can have gyro controls.
I also wouldn't mind having L3 and R3 duplicated as C and Z buttons for emulation purposes as it's hard to find a good controller that works for modern games certain systems such as Turbo Grafx 16/ PC Engine, Atari Jaguar, Genesis/Mega Drive, Sega Saturn, and Nintendo 64 games because the 3/6 button layout, but I feel like that might be asking for too much, so for me that would be a bonus.

The only thing that bothered me about the King Kong 2 was that the analog triggers made some weird noises when pressing down on them, squeeky noises or like a spring that is screeching.
I'm wondering if the KK3 has that fixed or if it is unchanged.
Either way, KK3 will get bought when my KK2 is done, i only really played one game with it so far, i need to get some more mileage out of it first.

If anyone buys an elite controller now, they're fools (unless they're using it for Xbox). The King Kong 2 Pro has been my go to for over a year and still feels as good as the day I got it. I've had no problems except every once in a while, the trigger squeaks a little. That's it. The only things that would crown this the true champ is full compatibility with Xbox & PlayStation, as well as replaceable D-pad faces. Gulikit is undeniably the G.O.A.T.

I remember getting the KK 2 pro controller from Amazon for my switch/pc. It worked great at first but one day when I was playing Persona 5 Strikers, the right trigger just stopped working, making it grind within the slot where it’s positioned(I think something broke or got in it). Anyway it became unusable at that point as I never got any help from customer support and I couldn’t get it repaired either with it being a 3rd party controller. Overall my experience with the brand was terrible, and while the new KK 3 Max looks promising, I don’t know how long it’ll last me

Loved the KKP2 so immediately "preordered" the Retro Gray once they became available around the end of December. Got mine on 1/8 and been having a blast using this baby on Switch, iPad be it mobile gaming, Gamepass or Remote Play. Even used it on PS5 with their Goku adapter to play PS4 games. Took it further, got a Besavior U5 (Based on a reddit post), plugged the Goku in w/ a Hori minipad (PS3/PS4) connected to it and can now play PS5 games 👍

I know it's very specific but you can't do it with any 8bitdo controllers and it's the reason I stopped caring about them. So far from what I'm seeing these controllers seem to check out so many features from my checklist it's crazy, I might be looking at my next controller lol
