However if they told the truth it wouldn't make things better it would only make Applejack feel even worse and more guilty considering the possibility of what happened to Apple Bloom and the other ponies would've crushed her spirit. And there would be angry mobs of Ponyville Ponies who want AJ's blood and her executed

I think that they blame not just AJ, but Twilight just as much, cause she was the one that gave her the potion in the first place, which would probably place half the blame on her, since it really was her fault deaths happened.

It’s disturbing how Twilight can become so fixated on being the “Princess of Friendship” that she’ll go to ANY lengths to hold that position of power. Even if it means betraying her friends. Definitely a student who *heard* the assignment but didn’t actually *understand* it.

@@Overwatch2010I honestly feel nether are free of guilt in this story, Twilight knew very well the issues of the potion and was right to warn her, but still gave it to her, but at the same time Apple Jack could have looked to her friends for any kind of help to her situation with the farm but still chose the stubborn route. The only innocent ones in this story are the ones who know nothing as even those with knowledge of AJ being alive hide the truth of why so many was killed
Starlight saying "Why?" And looking confused when Twi starts crying and multiple unanswered questions really makes me think...... Twi you didn't drink the potion, *Did you?*

That cry at 41:57 honestly almost had me crying. That was the most genuine heartbreaking cry I’ve heard in a long time. Even if it may be twilight’s fault, I still can’t help but feel so bad for her.

Starlight was most likely too caught up in the moment to think of something like that. When you’re in a situation where you’re fighting for your life, logic flies out the window.

I think Twilight somehow ended up ingesting the same potion as applejack because starlight was confused and sad when she was dying. Why would she be confused and sad to applejack attacking her? Plus Twilight was holding a piece of glass and starlight had a slit throat. Maybe she’s seeing people as applejack and killing them in an attempt to stop “applejack”
That's what I think too. mayhaps twi figured she had the right dose of the potion and used it to prepare for the ceremony but In turn made the hallucination effects worse

I agree here, I was thinking this throughout. It would make sense as she looked incredibly tired throughout the episode and never once slept, she was up doing work and couldn't seem to concentrate fully. It would make sense if she also took the potion and that resulted in hallucinations of starlight giving her the letter, and then the noises, and all the moments where the images would glitch and distort make me think that its all in her head from guilt. She's blaming applejack for all of this, when maybe applejack died in prison and that sent twilights grief over the edge. Maybe she thought she was strong enough for the potion not to effect her as much, as maybe she only drank a small amount, but it might have been amplified or triggered by a trauma such as applejack death. It does seem like twilight killed starlight. Even if applejack drank all of those potions, its unlikely she would have survived, plus the magic that seemed to barricade the door seems a bit much, applejack couldn't have done that, so it was probably twilights doing or starlight trying to keep twilight out. Its just a theory, but thats what I believe is happening. There's a few holes in this, but its not too far fetched when thought about while watching this. 😅
Another thing too- Starlight was attacked in her room- but at the same time she was the one who gave Twi the letter? Why is she in her room if she knows what happened with Applejack? She doesn’t seem like the type to hide away in fact she would’ve joined Twi in looking for Applejack. Her room was destroyed to and the artwork points to Starlight possibly being attacked in her sleep because she’s in her bed. It must’ve been Twilight

I think so too, because Twilight looked very tired so I don't doubt that she ingested at least some of the potion and because she was an alicorn she must have thought it would be stronger to cope with the side effects. And there are several things in the video that make it clear that it really must all be in Twilight's head.For example, Applejack escaped from prison out of nowhere, from her appearance she seemed to be very weak to have managed to escape from prison, at least by brute force, And I think that even if a guard had let her escape because he felt sorry for her story, it would have been stupid to let a pony who killed other ponies running away, And how did she deliver it to the castle and deliver it to Twilight's potions location without anyone seeing? This is very strange. And it's also very strange that Applejack is still alive after drinking all the potions, Twilight herself said that some of those potions couldn't be consumed by ponies, So it is very unlikely that Applejack would have been able to survive after taking the potions, she should have died much earlier, And I also think it's very unlikely that she developed any type of immunity to the side effects of the potions. Another thing that points to this is at some points in the video the images are distorted as if they were hallucinations.There is also this thing about Starlight being in her room, this is very strange, because if she gave the letter to Twilight, she should have looked for applejack together with Twilight , if she knew Applejack could be there why would she stay in the room instead of helping Twilight?And also why was the door difficult to open? This suggests that Starlight could be trying to stop Twilight from entering.And it also makes no sense for Starlight to be confused by Applejack's attack, this further shows that Twilight was the one who killed her.
Poor Starlight... It's always the good ponies who pay for the sins of the sinner. Whatever ponies & creatures that AJ kills their blood is on Twilight 's hooves. This is the price for her betrayal and lie.

I feel like there’s going to be a twist where Applejack was never there and Twilight just losing her mind from the guilt and will eventually confesse to everyone but she did, by accident. Heck, maybe it turns out Applejack was dead the whole time or still withering away in her prision while Twilight is going on a rampage to kill an Applejack that is not even there. That would be cool.
Applejack has super powers, Applejack can doge all attacks, Twilight has a shard of glass while Starlight is bleeding out from a cut, it is all obvious where this whole story is going. I am convinced it is all in Twilight’s head. Maybe Twilight will end up exposing herself in an unintentional confession. If it was the real Applejack, I think the attack on Starlight would have been more personal and symbolic, such as breaking the jaw of the new “Element of honesty” or something. The real AppleJack is probably dead or horribly atrophied in a prison cell still, barely clinging onto the will to live. That is my theory. Great reading as always!
It could be true, because how did AJ get out of prison? How did she break into the room? How did AJ not die from drinking so many of those potions? There is the question if she imagined Starlight giving her that letter about AJ, and if AJ did escape, maybe she simply went somewhere else entirely and the mere mention of her managing to escape was all that was needed to finally make her snap.
Probably reading too much into it, but it’s fun to speculate.
Actually I hope so...not would make sense... How did starlight had her neck bleeding if Applejack be just kicking her... She not the type who will hold a knife...
This could explain, for example, why AJ couldn't physically hurt Twlight, she literally acted around her like a ghost rather than a living person, as if she didn't exist. Besides, AJ looks like a skeleton, it's impossible that she had enough strength to get out of prison on her own, let alone break into the lab that was secured with a magic lock (unless someone helps her, but I highly doubt it). In addition, the last moments of Starlight's life describe her being surprised that Twlight was mourning her and taking pity on her. It's probably not a coincidence
One thing I noticed was the glitches. In the first Apple Sleep Experiment, the glitches happened around Applejack after she begins her descent into madness. Here, it's happening around Twilight. So, you may be onto something. The only question is, at the end, who hit Twilight over the head and why... It could be Applejack, but what if it was somepony who saw what Twilight did and took action? Also, wasn't Applejack making her escape? We won't know until the other parts are released, of course, yet it's fun to think about😉
I really hope you’re wrong, I really wanted AJ to actually appear in the story and be the sole bringer of justice.

Interesting that there's an overlapping narration between Scribbler and Lost almost like Scribbler represents what actually happens and Lost is Twilight's perspective as she slowly goes insane
I've listened to an apple sleep experiment so many times. TLN just had that voice that completely immerses you in the story you can see everything she describes and feel the cold dark dread behind her words. And the voice actors Holy cow 10/10 so good
First AJ, now the Mane 6 themselves are suffering the same insomnia fate.
This does prove how strong the Mane 6's friendship has become, which is leading up to their downfall.
One goes insane, they ALL go insane...
Hope Twilight gets what's coming to her... she's the real villain of this story.
She denied making that potion in the first place. She either refused to admit it or she didn't want to take responsibility. That or completely different reason. Then again, if Applejack hadn't asked for that potion in the first place, none of this would've happened.

Twilight knew what that would do to her reputation as the Princess of Friendship if word got out that her potion made Applejack go on a murder spree... So she made it seem as if AJ did that all on her own in order to protect her image as Princess.... and this makes her look even worse. Yeah, she's the villain alongside Filthy.
I’m someone who’s not really in the fandom anymore, but I will make a big exception for this time. Lost as Applejack is almost always some of the best VA work from this community.

Maybe you need to go hear the original again(that's if you've heard it before). Applejack was under the influence of Twilight's potion and had no control over her actions. She couldn't even remember when happened after she took the potion. That literally exempts her from any guilt.
Except she is completely aware of what she was doing when she took Starlight’s life.
Since Pinkie invited everyone she knew for the memorial, I hope this leads to a climatic moment where Applejack brings her attention to everyone and exposes Twilight during a mega fight or it turns into something like Something Sweet to Bite where AJ attacks the crowd all in one place while fighting the Mane 5

Even if AJ was desperate, (which under her circumstances I understand why ) it still was a really dumb and irresponsible thing to do. And if I were her and went through with it, I would have told AJ to drink ONLY A SIP!

I hope we will have a moment of clarity when Twilight either gets murdered in a very painful way, or she gets severely hated by everyone she knew and loved for what she did.

Well Twilight is culpable on many things. She gave Applejack the insomnia potion despited knowing that it was intested, later lied that The potion didn’t exist to alleviate her own guilt, and lied to all of Equestria pretending Applejack died possibly framing her as just another victim of the massacre. Don’t want word getting out that the element bearer was the killer or her own culpability in making her that way.
My heart broke seeing Pinkie's tired and sleepless face. Poor baby...
The Apple Sleep Experiment might be one of the best, if the not the best, MLP Creepypasta written. It's just horrifyingly great.
HONESTLY… the original for me was the quintessential Grimdark treatment for our beloved Cowpony. Lost, you give voice to her in such depth, such raw emotion, such a duplicity of love/hate, rage/calm how she was the antithesis of her character in MLPFIM and how the voice of Sleepless AJ gave life to Anger-Jack in MLPFIT.
And Magpie, such a wordsmith, World Builder, Bardess in her own weaving of her remarkable dark quill… we all knew a sequel was imminent… to have Part One waiting for us this Halloween. Well.. what might Apple Jack say?
AJ: *”I told ya… I don’t want your bucking (Family Friendly Version) cure, but I sure as hell need a End to my story, so ALL of us get what’s coming to them!”

Apple sleep experiment was my favorite grimdark as a kid. I cannot explain the amount of nostalgia and serotonin this brings me.
I thought the last popular stories for this fandom would be made when I was like eleven or twelve. Alas at almost eighteen years I will witness another classic! Years after the shows end! Huh. To think it was cupcakes that got me into this to begin with. Time sure does fly.
I agree, and what fascinates me the most is that the fandom is still alive and thriving - people love my little pony, the show inspires them to make art, fanfics, plushies, figurines etc. people enjoy MLP and come together to discuss it and have fun! This is beautiful

I’m ngl, I wish the story was sequel-less. I like the idea that Applejack had a hallucinatory episode of Twilight giving her the potion, and imagined their last conversation. It makes her entire story more memorable and tragic. Nonetheless your stories and reads are always magical and well-written.

I was hoping that Twilight get karma soon of what she did But not like this.... Applejack is really going to kill every single innocent soul ? At first it was because of the drug twilight gave her but now...OMG she is doing without hesitation.
This was honestly breathtaking, it was amazing. The art and music, the voice acting, the narration and switch between narrators, amazing!
I'm so happy we get to have a sequel to an awesome grim dark story, and I can't wait for part to/and or any other parts that come after.
Also have a few theories and ideas about what may happen next or things that could happen. Like AJ torturing Twilight, AJ being killed, and Applebloom being alive.

This reads like a story from Edgar Allan Poe. I'm calling it now, Twilight took the potion and she's now suffering from hallucinations. She's imagining AJ is doing this when it's Twilight all along. I could be wrong but that's just a theory I got from reading it
A few clues that make me think this:
1) The distortion Twilight is hearing is similar to the distortion AppleJack heard in the hospital. It sounds different but it's similar in nature
2) How did AJ know about Twilight's secret lab? If that lock Twilight used had a protection spell on it, I don't think brute force is gonna make it pry open no matter how hard AJ kicks it (especially with how emaciated she looks, a light breeze could knock her over)
3) How exhausted everyone looks whilst putting the memorial together. Everyone is on edge, even Fluttershy who is uncharacteristically frustrated. Wouldn't Twilight need a little "pick me up" to help her get things done?
This is just what I think and I could be wrong. I've also been watching a lot on The Fall of the House of Usher series and how most of the deaths are caused by sleep deprivation and psychosis. Especially the characters Victorine and Leo. What's happening to Twi feels like what happened to them. I just got that feeling from it.

Me too but I feel like if she does she'll get in more serious trouble for it since it will make things far worse than it already is and here's something I think is possible what if Princess Celestia and Princess Luna requested Twilight Spike and their friends to lie about it to spare AJ from being executed by angry mobs of Ponies who would want her executed in cold blood and to spare Twilight Spike and their friends and the Princesses from being hated by all of Equestria if they told the truth all of Equestria would hate them and AJ.

applejacks voice acting is AMAZING
The way that camera was fixed on the three bottle (two on the ground and one in aj hoof) and the distortion that the camera had on it leads me to believe that those three potion were the sleepless potion that Twilight feared
I agree with a lot of people saying Twi ingested some of it (for unknown reasons as of now). The distortion and glitches are also like a hint that something isn't right.
It'll be really cool to see how the writer(s) mold this story!!
So did Spike just... leave? I mean I understand its been seven years since the original story in-universe, but did Spike just grow too old to be living in Ponyville? Did he leave to forge a path on his own? Really hope we get an answer in the upcoming parts.
I've had a few weeks to digest everything. Somethings don't add up. Not yet. Why would Applejack's condition deteriorate so badly? Living in a waking nightmare? Why wouldn't Luna help her in her dreams to stop it from getting this bad? I wonder... If Celestia kept Luna in the dark about this, and canceled her prison with magic designed to hide AJ from Luna's magic. Why would she do this though? Perhaps Luna would never have gone with this injustice. Everyone else believes AJ is dead, so it's not out of the question.
I'm starting to wonder if Celestia made Twilights choice for her. It would not befit Celestia to allow her protégé to take the blame. That would disgrace her. This would also explain why Celestia didn't push her luck about having Twilight take the throne. Perhaps some truths will come out about this conspiracy. We don't know whether or not Luna was in the dark or not for sure, but it sure doesn't fit Luna's M.O to allow awful nightmares to swallow any pony. It's also alarming she AJ was malnourished. She was set up to take the fall, one would think Twilight would have at least made it clear that her welfare was to be kept. However she could have just stopped eating from depression, so who knows whos fault that is.

The voice acting in this story is absolutely insane. Applejack's vice genuinely struck fear into me to my core, genuinely had chills! And the emotion from Twilight, Starlight, it was absolutely insane. Fantastic job to everyone involved!
What if over the years, taking care of AJ slowly became an afterthought. How she looked was Twilight’s last memory of what she looked like before. But another thing that would be scary, what if temptation over the years, Twilight couldn’t resist using her friend as a guinea pig. Can’t wait for the next part.

My friend made me listen to this series, but while i am interested in whether Applejack rlly is the killer or itll b Twilight considering the overlapping voice being used at points i think it's fascinating how Twilight ended up making the same mistake her teacher did.
Both Celestia and Twilight had someone close to them who committed a dangerous act (Luna might've started off just making the night longer, but we also have to consider what the consequences wouldve been if she had been allowed to go on - a lot of flora need more sunlight than what the moon reflects, it couldve caused a famine. Applejack well... we know what happened), they sealed their once close companion away and threw themselves into their work... and eventually that companion came back with a vengeance.
IT'S SO GOOD TO HEAR YOU ALL AGAIN!!! This was utterly gutwrenching..Twilight's voice actor is INCREDIBLE for those wails..it almost made me cry! All the voices were absolutely perfect!!! Wow I'm so excited, I've always loved the original!!! And part to comes out just 2 days before my birthday too!!!! I have a theory about where this is going too, if anyone wants to hear. Updated it 11/15/2023 because I have more ideas!
It seems like the stress and guilt is REALLY getting to twilight. We're seeing the voice shifts while she's thinking, similar to AJ in the original.
I think Twi either took a potion of her own by mistake, is just mad with guilt/fear if apple jack actually escaped, or was snuck a potion as revenge. I'm holding out hope RD helped her free, since shes loyalty, and was missing in the beginning. I wonder if she was really with the wonderbolts? Or maybe Pinkie,? She doesnt look to good, and shes AJs cousin after all. It could be in something she baked and gave to Twilight. Im actually beginning to wonder if all the main six (minus twi obvi lol) are in on it maybe? I dont know why they'd wait this long to act is the only thing. Maybe they felt threatened since Twilight is an extremely powerful princess, with very powerful connections?
Now Twilight's killing ponies, under the delusion it's AJ. Because think about it, AJ took so many random potions it likely would've killed her, Twi couldn't hit AJ, she jumped over to where AJ was when starlight was dying, while holding a piece of glass while starlight had a cut throat. She also said when she died she had fear, then confusion, then sorrow on her face. Starlight was scared of Twi, then confused why she seemed distraught at what she did, then sad when she realized twilight wasn't in her right mind.
Also I think she was actually starting her fight with Starlight while "fighting" AJ. Starlight went on ahead to check a noise, if it was nothing and she came back, Twilight might have confused her hallucinations of AJ with her. Things like Applejacks super speed could be explained by Starlight teleporting,. She says when she first uses her "super speed" that she braces herself against a wall, and is stunned by it. Which seems very defensive for the not afraid of death AJ, but understandable for Starlight if her friend for no reason, suddenly just launched a spell at her that she had barely escaped from. Twi getting torn up and burnt could've been offensive spells from Starlight. When she hears Starlight scream it was her being scared of Twi, and trying to hide in the room, its mentioned there's a "magical shield" behind the door too.
I wonder if maybe the pony who knocked Twi out at the end IS Applejack, the real one. If she did escape, maybe she can prove to everyone at the party for all of Equistria that she 1) didnt die and 2) did have a potion that caused the nightmare, by having the either dosed or insane Twilight realize she killed Starlight and confess.
I'm still wanting applejack to have revenge on twilight but I love this theory

The timing of this is funny because I just started rereading a lot of these stories as a way to celebrate halloween at home because I couldn't go out this year, in all honesty I think I can confidently say these stories are a lot more digestible when someone is reading them to you, so thank you very much for such a lovely treat!
