    My sister has sister locs and my sister-in-law and daughter-in-law have dreads, they’ve been trying to convince me to loc my hair for at least 4 years now. I’m like nope because I don’t want to go through that awkward phase and I love changing my styles.I general wear my hair in two strand twists, Havana twists, spring twist, and various updos. Anyway 3 minutes into your video, I’m now convinced. Going to start my locs with 2 strand twists. I can’t thank you enough for this video and I will be following your loc journey as a new subscriber. BTW your makeup is natural looking and flawless. You’re beautiful.

    I just twisted my locs, by two strands. Third set. I cut them, enticed by straight styles. Couldn’t find a stylist. Bad vibes with stylist. I wore wigs not feeling comfortable. I had a horrible straight hair journey. I feel like I was meant to be a loc wearer. Because everything failed. 2 days in. I’m happy and love my twists. We were mean to be together. ❤️

    This is loc journey is definitely a learning process for me. I have hand in hair syndrome and my hair and scalp have been dryer than my social life 😂. But I've been trying something different to help. ACV diluted in water to treat itchy scalp before shampooing. I'll massage that in and wait about 10 minutes then I'll shampoo. And after shampooing I'll make sure to apply oil to my scalp and hair while still damp. I'll blot the excess water from my hair to help with air drying. So far it working. You're right about less products. My staples now are shampoo, oil mix and rosewater. No styling for me. If I want to get fancy, I'll put on a Headwrap.

Gives it bumps and character. I don't want my locs to be too neat and uniformed. So I guess it all depends on your aesthetic.

I just got my hair twisted and I haven’t done anything to it. There are not many videos that explain to people doing locs themselves. I’m in that awkward phase of my hair looking messy. Today I decided to take it off because I don’t know if it will be locs at the end. I even started wearing a wig to work. Then your video popped up again. I hope you read this and give tips on how to cope with that Phase. Thank you for this video xxx

    I feel like your hair should not be dry or itchy when you have locs, locs are just a different hair style you should still be conditioning your hair. I wash and condition my starter locs and when I shower I allow the humidity to moisturize my locs and after I put leave in conditioner and coconut oil in my hands and just run it through my scalp and hair. My hair is more moisturized than it has ever been before I started locs. I can cut down on wash days because my hair is not dirty and I live in HOTLANTA y'all

    So this is me embracing my 60th. My sister says I have that over night growing hair. I never really paid attention to my hair. I kept it clean and rocked whatever style that was in.
    Then in my late twenties I had my hair relaxed for the first time. Not my thing though. So I did the big chop and loved growing my natural hair again. I am always cutting my hair and it grows back over several nights. So tonight I am starting my loc journey I will have buds by my 60th birthday. I am free forming kind of.

    I am tired of doing my hair. I've been natural for the last 9 years. I do very low maintenance styles. I've recently gotten to the point where I don't care if my hair is frizzy or out of place anymore. In my mind, locs are way less maintenance than loose natural hair. What is the level of upkeep to locs vs loose natural hair? Should I still expect to take hours to wash and style my hair?

    • @KailaJ
      @KailaJ  5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      My level of upkeep is 90% less than what was required of me as a loose natural. This percentage will depend on a variety of factors such as length of locs, new growth, maintenance (retwisting or interlocking) and overall health of your hair. But with all those factors taken into consideration it’s still a breeze compared to loose natural hair! I love it 🥰

    • @AS-ix6bx
      @AS-ix6bx 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Did you end up locking your hair? I feel it's like 99.9% less maintenance. I have extremely thick hair and I am not a hair person. Just do not have the patience and I don't care all like that, so locks are perfect for me. Still cute, still have length but not a slave to my hair.

      @@AS-ix6bx I did not lock my hair. I've been wearing braids for the last year. I will say that regardless to styles that are deemed less maintenance you still have to upkeep the health of your hair. I have learned that and will do better from here on out.

      @@23luvdoc aw why not? Yes you still have to do a few things if course but I drink a lot of water and only do basic stuff like oil scalp wash hair etc. I'm not real big on retwisting my hair all the time either bc I dont feel its necessary.

      hmmmmmm, I dont know much about retwisting locs since I interlock but I have heard great things about Taliah Waajid Tight hold gel (it comes in an orange bottle) for people that retwist so maybe you can give that a try🤷🏽‍♀️ You may have to try a variety of products to see what works for you. If you are still not satisfied, maybe give interlocking a try. Hope this help, best of luck🤗

    Yess the shrinkage is so true! I didn’t start with two strands just because I didn’t wanna see the two strand twist pattern in my locs. But if you look at like my first video to now, it looks way more stretched out lol. In my 6th month, I’m experiencing a lot of bunching in my locs as well, I just leave them like that tho lol. I didn’t even think abt pulling down. But Great video ❤️

    My twists were done professionally, the woman was kind but She twisted them very tightly, like some senagalese twists. It feels like my hair isn’t really expanding as it should because of that tightness. Should I take out all my twists are re do them them looser for them to be thicker?

He also does a Apple cider vinegar detox for scalp health. I think it’s the same as our natural hair journey just not paying a whole lot of attention to the process and jus let it BE GREAT.. Do you interlock? I tried locs for 4mos last year and interlocked because i this it would be best for my hair type but I really want the look that palm rolling gives... I also want to start my own locs... I’m kinda anti stylists wen it comes to locs... I’m weird and believe hair holds energy... I very rarely let anyone touch my hair... I was going to try two strand twists this time... will they work if i just retwist the new growth and not interlock?

    • @KailaJ
      @KailaJ  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I interlock. I love the look of palm rolled locs as well. I started my own locs. I totally understand what you mean by being anti stylist. Everything holds energy, including hair! This is one of the reasons I wasn’t feeling my color or my first set of locs. The energy was ALL THE WAY OFF! For that reason and others, I don’t let anyone touch my hair. You can definitely install two strand twists and retwist the new growth. It will be beautiful either way. Good luck on your journey😊

    I started with two strand twist as well and when they unravel I get so upset beacuse I feel like thats another day I have to start over so does it take longer if it unravels a lot? Also I wear it up alot is that OK or should I leave it alone?

    • @KailaJ
      @KailaJ  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn’t say it would take longer but that is a part of the process in the beginning stages. It could lock at the same rate as the others that haven’t come undone...don’t get frustrated!
      As for wearing your locs up, I would suggest leaving them alone until they are more mature. This could slow down the locing process. Think about it: how can they loc and form together tightly if they are constantly being stretched🤷🏽‍♀️
