There is no debate on whether Anakin should have taken the shot, it's just bad writing. Its war, it's a defensive strike and the Jedi have already been generals before, all Anakin did was cause more friendly casualties.
Cosmic Ascendancy The Empire is based on expendable units and disregard for human lives. They wouldn't have been able to use the weapon but if they did, they wouldn't hesitate to use it that way to destroy their enemies at any cost.
I don't think there's any question , it was a terrible choice but its NOT bad writing. real military history is filled with terrible decisions such as charging straight into huge walls of machine guns or not giving your troops any winter gear for a campaign in the USSR i love seeing star wars mimic real life if people make the occasional mistake. (not mess up literally every battle and loose to plot armor like the empire does a lot, that's too much)
A stupid decision not to fire it? Definitely. Bad writing? I don't think so. A terrible decision in-universe is, if anything, realistic. It isn't really bad writing, IMO, until a person has to go out of character to make that bad decision for the plot's sake. I've used the bad decision =/= bad writing defense for things in canon, so it'd be a double standard not to apply it to Legends, too, and vice versa.
I disagree that it’s bad writing. Keep in mind at this point the Jedi Order’s knowledge of its own history is very limited, which leaves them with no understanding of how Jedi relate to open war other than a couple of Luke’s later experiences and Yoda’s warnings. They’re not sure how far they can go without the Dark side coming into play. The Force always makes moral questions even more complicated than they already are, which is why as a device for moral storytelling it’s kind of a double edged sword
The “dilemma” of should Solo have fired or not is astonishingly stupid, taking the shot would have protected both Fondor AND the Hapan fleet, it’s just manufactured BS to make the scenario seem more risky and dramatic than it was
Throughout the entire series Jacen's arguments are always petulant and thin, essentially equating doing anything but counter attacking to the darkside. Yoda himself would have fired at that fleet to save the billions of civilians in the Fondor system.
To be fair this isn't the first time the jedi mind set refused to save lives. Think of the war with the mandalorians. They were at war with the republic, killing millions, and even after the cathor incident was brought to light, where the mandalorians bombarded a planet and killed all of its people, the jedi counsel still did not take direct action. They mearly did not stand in the way of those who wanted to fight and to protect.

I've requested this once before, and now I will request again... Since you're doing a series on the Vong war, I'd really like to see a video on the Battle of Ord Mantell.
I never really understood Anakin's decision when I read the book. The Vong fleet was attacking Fondor, so how was destroying it not an act of defence? It would have been no worse than Luke blowing up the Death Star. I wasn't even particularly sorry when Anakin got killed later on in the war because of his lousy decision.
Eck dude these Yuuzhan Vong vids are so beast!! 115th Attempt: Reapers vs. Yuuzhan Vong * Imagine two factions with living things as weapons!! Such a fun match-up * Comment who you think will win and why
The battle videos are getting better. I like your style with the video production. Don't know if you tried this yet but maybe you could cover stuff like battle videos related with Stargate, or Battlestar Galactica just a fun experiment. Again not sure if you did something like that already but it would be a fun thing to see from your channel.
Had I been in Anakin's shoes, I would not have hesitated to fire the weapon. He had an innate instinct that told him he could precisely manipulate the weapon - this was probably in part insight given from the Force. Yes, attacking is not exactly the Jedi way, and killing thousands (potentially millions) of enemies at once is also not the Jedi way. But we see later in the series that the Jedi understand and accept that in times like this, sometimes attack is the only option. It would have drastically changed the war - for better or worse? Who can say. It would have likely made Centerpoint Station Target #1 though - and I doubt the Vong would have spared any resources in ensuring it's destruction.
Anikin: Should I fire? It would be very aggressive and against jedi code. But it could save so many lives and give us a massive advantage later down the line. Truly this is a dilemma Sal: FUCKING DO IT!
Spartans would beat N7 ( forgetting biotics and tech abilities) Alliance Navy would beat the UNSC That's my take on it, alliance ground troops aren't trained for war per se, more closer to observation and espionage, to await for a larger force ( a fleet perhaps) to overwhelm the enemy
Just curious Eck, if you plan to come back to doing battle breakdowns anytime in the near future and in particular those continuing the vong war series of them?

Prophet "crysis" vs Space Marine (Captain) "Warhammer 40,000" Rules: Standard weapons for Captain. All Crysis 3 weapons for Prophet Morals are off No prep Day Location: Jungle
Wellllll. Lets see here. Both have pretty significant feats. Though. I'm not going to assume every space marine is the same. Same augmentations but all different people. Blah blah blah. But there is a sort of general conscious of what a space marine can do. And nanosuit users are no slouches either. Strength: Prophet. Like Andrey pointed out, a nanosuit user could bench 70 tons. CryoFibril is inspired by CNT by word of god and is even stated directly to produce 20 Joules per cubed centimeter compared to a human's 0.07. The muscle of the suit is around 250 stronger then human muscle. And it shows in game .Prophet punts cars considerable distances. 2800 lbs on average. Though a space marine i'd say could definitely hit prophet around due to his weight. Striking and lifting are different. But Prophet can throw people away like baseballs when he wants. He can also move 50-100 ton objects by pushing them. So Prophet. The space marine has much more stamina however. The more strength Prophet uses. The more power. So I would imagine he wouldn't always want to chuck someone 80 feet, when more power is required and throwing someone 7 feet into a wall is just fine. He is strong enough to draw a bow to the point that it can get into a lightly armor vehicle... (A lot people also forget that everything takes power. Prophet can't grab power or mass from another dimension like we're used to everyone with superpowers doing. So Prophet won't always do extreme feats unnecessary feats simply to conserve power.) Speed/Agility: Difficult to asertain for prophet. Space marines come in about peak human 25-30 mph. Some smaller ones bieing faster from what I've seen. Disappearing from sight. Isn't actually all that hard. I've actually had it done to me in only a single step. No SS required if your close up. I'd say they're pretty even. But even then, being Usain Bolt doesn't mean you can fight like Bruce Lee. I'll Prophet is faster overall but the Spacemarine is not slow at all. Durability: Another hard thing to Gauge. Space marine has a lot more mass then the nanosuit and that does matter more then people would think. I think being shot with mos small arms in the nanosuit is like being hit by little pebble because Prophet straight shrugs .50 Caliber rounds in canon and at the very least 4 MJ. Which would be at least like eating a round from a 60 (2.4 Caliber) mm cannon. Now space marines if I recall can tank alot and are around in between the durability of a APC and a tank. More durable then an APC. But not as quite durable as a tank even if their armor is stronger pound for pound. Both lack weakpoints aside from perhaps the visors of their helmets. Both of them have pretty good energy weapon durability. Marksmanship: I'd give the edge over to a good space marine, but prophet is no slouch, as he has pulled off some serious shots, like shooting down aircraft with non homing small arms\ by shooting through windows and weakpoints while they are moving. But Space marine in some places are serious shots. Reflexes: I'd give it to Prophet I think. User above mentions by word his reflexes being .08 milliseconds. A well trained humans actually is around .25 seconds. Though I'm not an Weaponry: I'll have to say the Gauss Rifle is also mentioned to be an anti tank weapon. I could imagine this thing punching through the back of a tank or the top. I can definitely see it going through a space marine's helmet, but it will take a few shots against something like his chest, though Prophet can definitely hit it. The Bolter is a powerful weapon that is .75-1.00 caliber/ (19-25 mm) and shoots armor piercing tipped explosive rounds. It's a powerful weapon and not something Prophet wants to be in the way of, otherwise he can get taken out really quickly. Prophet also has the MIKE which would ignore any non conductive material and melt anything else. It could boil the space marine in his own armor through a wall. Then you have more top of the line weapons. A void grenade would if landed BFR Prophet to super hell and end the fight. But if Prophet brought the TAC mini nuclear GL well, he'd also be able to reduce the space marine into atoms with a single shot. So. Pretty even. Super hell for Prophet. Or being turned into atoms for the Space marine. That's pretty much a draw. Whoever shoots first. Otherwise they can both off the other easily at the same time for all we know. All and all. I'd give it to Prophet 6/10 against a very good space marine. It would be a pretty good fight against a Space Marine Captain.
I like the break down and agree with your points. However, I'd like to say that Space Marines are above peak human performance in all respects, particularly in regards to reflexes and durability, and this is enhanced further when wearing Power Armor. Now obviously Space Marine physical capabilities don't go into the absurd, you won't see one hurl someone 80ft. The most extreme feat of strength I can recall is one lifting the back of a loaded 18 wheeler that was stuck. As a side note, mass is even more important that you think. Cause if you don't have more mass than the object you are trying to move you will just move yourself. However, when comparing Sci-fi universes its best to go with what your shown/told cause most of them shit on physics anyway.
It will definitely be a close fight no matter what. Part of the fight depends on if the Prophet knows what a Space Marine exactly is and part of it will depend on what the Space Marine's chapter is, I give Raven Guard and Iron Hands a better chance due to the former's propensity for stealth and the latter's ridiculous durability. The Prophet definitely had a weapons advantage, however, most Captains have Iron Halos which project a powerful energy shield. This shield will require a significant amount of damage to collapse. So in my opinion the Prophet has the advantage in the early stages of the fight but would become exhausted far before the Space Marine and would thus need to eliminate the Marine quickly or he will tire out make a mistake and die. This is why a Prophet's knowledge of his opponent is key as he could waste a significant amount of time and energy on attacks that are irrelevant or non-disabling to the Space Marine. So for fairness' sake I will say that the Prophet does know what a Space Marine is and vice versa. In that case I would give the Prophet a 6/10 win rate, but he has to go all in at the beginning of the fight. If he fails to overwhelm the Captain he will lose. Against Captains from chapters like the Raven Guard or Iron Hands I would say the fight is more like 50/50.
Lemuel Mendoza there is no way the subjugators are winning. The mon cal shielding on the viscount has NEVER been broken, even by an advanced ion cannon like the subjugator has. Plus, the hundreds of starfighters and ace human pilots would outmatch the vulture droids and hit the ion cannon even easier than the clone pilots did. (Rebel pilots were probably the best in the galaxy after the force users) on top of that, the subjugator has little conventional weaponary compared to the monster that is the viscount.
Yes! Again we dive in one of the best series in star wars, the vong war! This was the time were jacen had his "no inervention" phase, it is really hard to imagine that some one who couldn't bring him self to take up arms to fight of an violent invader that killed millions and want to take the whole galaxy would become a sith lord who is perfectly fine with burning kashyyks forests for his political agenda. I get that jedi should not act agressive but that was a war with the galaxy at stake. Sure the jedi should not comit genocide on the vong but fight them back to save lives is pretty much theire god damed job!
Hmm...the way I see it, the Battle of Fondor is a hot mess that's both an a victory and a defeat for the New Republic with a series of mistakes and Jedi stupidity. New Republic Intelligence failed to follow up on taking care of the Hutts once they realized they're working with the Vong in some capacity. The NRI should have a least eliminated the Hutts and deprive the Vong a useful ally while work with the military to come up with backup plans to engage the Vong should the main battle plan fail, especially with target rich locations like the shipyards. The fact they over-rely on the Jedi, especially the Solo children proved to be a weak spot. It is also Jedi stupidity of Jacen Solo and the inexperience of Anakin Solo that allowed Thrackan Sal-Solo to seize the moment and made that call to fire the Centerpoint Station. Had Anakin understood that by firing the main weapon in order to minimize casualties while aiming directly at the Vong, the Hapan fleet would've avoided being partially vaporized.

3:25 Oh, it's beautiful
I've requested this once before, and now I will request again... Since you're doing a series on the Vong war, I'd really like to see a video on the Battle of Ord Mantell.
I never really understood Anakin's decision when I read the book. The Vong fleet was attacking Fondor, so how was destroying it not an act of defence? It would have been no worse than Luke blowing up the Death Star. I wasn't even particularly sorry when Anakin got killed later on in the war because of his lousy decision.
Type-47A(H2) scarab vs type-47B(H3,reach,odst) scarab vs Banished scarab vs Volatile scarab
My favorite series of the Star Wars universe
Eck dude these Yuuzhan Vong vids are so beast!!
115th Attempt:
Reapers vs. Yuuzhan Vong
* Imagine two factions with living things as weapons!! Such a fun match-up
* Comment who you think will win and why
Can we get a R.I.P in the chat for Adrimal Gillad Pellion and to his majestic mustache
I always smile at the outro with the doggo lol. What kind of dog is it? Also the song that plays is pretty chill. Is it made by you or someone else?
Dammit Thracen, two Vongs don't make a rout!
Keep these videos coming
"Fondor" on the map is actually an image of Pluto, figure the spacd nerds here will enjoy that if they don't already know
The battle videos are getting better. I like your style with the video production. Don't know if you tried this yet but maybe you could cover stuff like battle videos related with Stargate, or Battlestar Galactica just a fun experiment. Again not sure if you did something like that already but it would be a fun thing to see from your channel.
Nice video Eckharts
Recusant Class Light Destroyer vs Something.
Assault Frigate Mark I or II perhaps?
Or perhaps a video on the Harrower class Dreadnought or terminus class destroyer
I would label the Battle of Fondor as pyrrhic victory for the Republic, since the Vong were defeated, but at great cost.
Loving these Vong videos!
Truly this is a dilemma
Sal: FUCKING DO IT!
Replicators vs a Unified Star Wars Universe (All Races and Eras Combined)
85th Attempt
Great video as always!! I Couldint help but notice Fondor looks alot like Pluto XD
Fondor.
EckhartsLadder: **uses a potato image of Pluto**
seeing as you are into strategy, when can we expect the artillery only challenge?
2 Harrower Dreadnaughts vs 1 Imperial Star Destroyer
Just proves that if you are the one who knows how to fire the gun, you should fire it and not let others do it for you. Good theme for the battle.
LOL love the outro
T-70 X-Wing VS E-Wing
Spartans vs N7 and UNSC Marines vs System Alliance Marines
You forgot The Space Marines
@@beasticy4216 Dude seriously shut the fuck up about 40k.
Spartans would beat N7 ( forgetting biotics and tech abilities)
Alliance Navy would beat the UNSC
That's my take on it, alliance ground troops aren't trained for war per se, more closer to observation and espionage, to await for a larger force ( a fleet perhaps) to overwhelm the enemy
@@peterfogarty4809 Alliance Navy ships wouldn't withstand even a ship Bourne MAC blast.
Spartens and alliance better weapons.
Please cover the Battle/Devastation of Ithor (Yuuzhan Vong War) in one of your future videos!
You should do a fractions versus video between the Chimera from resistance and the Locusts from Gears of War
Vong kept the onslaught on until Destiny Way.
great vid would enjoy a horus heresy battle breakdown
Oh thanks Jacen....the dilemma was stupid. And you ended up turning to the Dark Side anyway.
Just curious Eck, if you plan to come back to doing battle breakdowns anytime in the near future and in particular those continuing the vong war series of them?
Please something with the Ascendant spear battle cruiser.
ALLISON - Space Echoes 👍
I fuckin love your outro it is bloody amazing!

Me: 3:25
Loving the Vong stuff.
I stopped reading those books after they killed Chewie. That was tough narrative pill to swallow.
Narrative pill my ass. More like emotional pill. There’s nothing narratively wrong with killing Chewie and it’s pathetic that so many “fans” stopped reading after that. Boohoo a character died. It’s called STAKES
@@ImTheReverse EU books took a short step off a long cliff shortly after Rogue Squadron books, it wasn’t just a Wookiee dying in one book that made people stop reading EU content.
I didn't realize Fondor was identical to Pluto.
Hey Eck, could show us how you make these visuals for the vids? It seems pretty good
#Star wars legends forever!
Prophet "crysis" vs Space Marine (Captain) "Warhammer 40,000"
Rules:
Standard weapons for Captain. All Crysis 3 weapons for Prophet
Morals are off
No prep
Day
Location: Jungle
Remind me how many ships the 7th fleet had in total? I think Thrawn requisitioned more by season 4...
So Prophet won't always do extreme feats unnecessary feats simply to conserve power.)
Speed/Agility: Difficult to asertain for prophet.
Though I'm not an
Weaponry: I'll have to say the Gauss Rifle is also mentioned to be an anti tank weapon.
@@adambielen8996 what's you're opinion?
I want this to be cannon and for the new trilogy to focus on this shit. That would be insane
5:09 Why is Fondor's image Pluto?
Viscount Class Star Defender VS 2 of the MALEVOLENCE (Subjagator Class Heavy Cruiser)
31st Try
Fondor appears to be Pluto in this video. :P
GOD DAMNIT JACEN!
Can the Irken empire from invader Zim take on the empire?
Great video
please dont say im the only one who actually waits to see the dog at the end of the video x'D
Love this channel!!!!!
Very nice thank you.
What if they had miss the vong ? That would have change a lot or if luke did fire and turn to the dark side
How about the mammoth mk2 from command and conquer vs the AT-AT for your next versus match?
Suggestion: mandalorian warrior vs Ubese warrior
Artillery only!
what battle/ event turned the tide of the vong war
