The Yuuzhan Vong name reminds me of the "Yuezhi" and "Xiongnu"... northern steppe tribes that repeatedly raided and destabilized China during the Bronze and Iron Ages. This kept the country fractured, because whenever one group became powerful enough to potentially rule all of China, its rivals simply allied themselves with the steppe tribes. Finally, Emperor Wu of Han went all-in on a campaign against the Xiongnu in the 2nd century BC, defeating them once and for all. This united China in the short term, led to some more fracturing as the empire had overstretched itself, but eventually paved the way to a China that could be united long term.

To be honest, before we saw any of the sequel trilogy, a part of me hoped the Vong saga would be our next antagonists. They were such a terrible threat, that Imerials, members of the New Republic and former Rebel Alliance, pirates, civilians, the fledgling Jedi order Luke was trying to build, and more were all forced to work together. A unifying threat, a scourge that was poised to overrun the galaxy we all have come to love.
In a way, it would be a perfect end to the franchise. The galaxy finally breaking the cycle of regimes falling and terrible wars interrupted by peace with small skirmishes. Everyone fighting as one is also a great opportunity for symbolically bringing balance, with Sith and Jedi, Empire and Republic, Criminals and Lawful society, all working together to save everyone.
Disclaimer: I love seeing the whole cast standing against a unifying threat in general.

@@ramonpizarro There are good parts, and I feel it is faithful to what the original trilogy was, good and bad, but I feel like audiences wanted to see it grow up more and had so much of their idea shaped by legends.
Considering how audiences are more analytical, passionate, and analytical than during the original trilogy's days, I think more care needed to be put into the writing, especially the tactics.
Before anyone says anything about them, the female characters getting center stage isn't the problem. I'm aiming this at the open misogynists and the ones who use other critiques as cover.
The highest ranked survivors of Resistance being women isn't a problem. The main character, Luke's successor, being a woman isn't a problem.

The best part is how the Emperor forsaw the arrival of the Vong and, iirc, is why he initiated his take over of the Galaxe. Believing a strong, centralized, professional military was the best bet at stopping the Vong. It was the Chiss who first reported the Vong to Palpatine and it was because of this that he was introduced to Thrawn. If memory serves me right, this info comes from Outbound Flight. That little addition to his character took him from some power crazed lunatic and made him a Thanos level villain, someone believing only they had the vision to save the galaxy from a doomsday threat

The whole tone of Vong story arc is totally different even from other Legends materials. Gore, mass-murder, genocide, religious sacrifice of living people, tortures... While that made it unique, and I personally greatly enjoyed this arc despite the flaws it had - its really, REALLY doubtful, such a thing could make it to the big screens even without Disney in charge. It's just totally not suited to "mass-entertainment" purpose of SW, as average people view this franchise...

Funny thing is that Tyranids in 40k are partially inspired by Yuuzhan Vong(another part is bugs from Starship Troopers and so on) and this part also existed in old Tyranid lore - they ran for their life from something. Be it a demonic threat(which is unlikely with how they overshadow anything Chaos forces in the Milky Way can put on the field) or another AI civilization that had gone haywire into full blown grey goo scenario.
The funniest thing is that there are mentions of human and eldar expeditions into another galaxies so the threat that caused Tyranids to go to Mily Way might be originating from here. Be it Men of Iron, some f//cked Old One experiment, another Eldar murder god or just an escaped C'Tan.

Over 25,000 star destroyers alone in the fleet, the rebels were always unrealistically small in number and lacking in capital ship fleets. The Yuuzhan Vong are most likely from the farthest-most satellite galaxy. What are the chances that both droid races, on top of the Yuuzhan Vong, crossed the intergalactic void for centuries in a random direction, with seemingly no known target, and happened to stumble across the Star Wars galaxy, which is said to be astronomically far away from the Yuuzhan Vong galaxy? The best explanation is that they were from Companion Grek, or whatever the farthest satellite galaxy was, since then all three races would actually know where they were going and have a mutual target, which is still far enough away for the trip to take several centuries. The cancelled Supernatural Encounters novella actually confirms this.

And Forerunner armor amd shields were so durable and advance that the Didact's ship Mantle's Approach received very little damage while being receiving constant barrages of attacks from the UNSC Infinity's mac guns, a few other UNSC marathon class vessals, and the entirety of the UNSC ODP Earth defenses all of which had Forerunner enhancements which all together would of been dozens of teratons of force and the Mantle Approach's shields shrug them off like they were nothing. And when Master Chief was able to deactivate only a small portions of the shield leaving a tiny area exposed the Infinity's mac guns which would have had a yield of atleast 100 gigatons of force only made a small hole in the hull of Mantle Approach a bit smaller then the spacecraft Master Chief was using.
And don't forget remember the Forerunner Fortress-class Dreadnought mentioned? They had over a hundred thousand of them. And during the Forerunner-Flood war the Forerunners had destroyed hundreds of thousands of their planets and population centers trying to stop the Flood outbreak and they even resulted to wiping out entire star systems from the face of the galaxy.

The Vong are just evolved humans (from earth) that traveled back in time to the Star Wars galaxy after we destroyed our galaxy.

You should do a star wars empire comparison.
Basically compare empires throughout starwars history like the sith, the hutts, etc. And see which was structured better, which lasted longer, the number of systems they contained

Yuuzhantar, Zenoma Sekot and other emerging sentient planets in the Vong galaxy are probably a planetary sized fungus. The entire planet is covered with mycelium that's Force sensitive. The other natural lifeforms that lived on its surface contributed to develop the emerging cohesive intelligence. So when the Vong's homeworld died, it sent a seed out to another galaxy and grew on a planet in the Corusca galaxy becoming Zenoma Sekot.

Imagine if they brought the vong back, but it was the reason the old republic and sith empire collapsed? a piece of forgotten history. just imagine how intense that’d be in canon, especially in an era when technology isn’t as advanced, and jedi and sith happen to be a massive enemy. Just I shine the battlefields, filled with jedi and sith fighting the vong, and starships fighting giant space squids (you know what I mean) man I just want them back in some form.

I imagine the reason the Yuuzahn Vong didn’t get a movie, is because the casual viewer will see this as a threat that’s too big, black holes and big ass warships. How could they have won in a trilogy.

    • @silentdrew7636

Gabriel Angelo The difference between the OT and the Vong is that the Empire was fighting against a dude who could move shit with his mind and other small rebellions. The Vong had technology that was far different from what the galaxy was used to fighting, not to mention the fact that it was the whole species.

    • @derek96720
      @derek96720 4 ปีที่แล้ว

The problem with the expanded universe story arcs is that most of them are too long for movies, even trilogies. The Yuuzhan Vong War arc would take a several-season series akin to The Mandalorian, but with a much bigger budget to deal with all the prosthetics, sets, costumes, and space battles.

The losing connection with the force reminds me of the Rakata, makes you wonder balance between is needed if either Light or Dark fully wins it is no longer needed.

Havok Squad during the Cold War (meteor is Commando) vs Fire team Majestic.

    • @TechnoMinarchist

There is no Light or Dark Side. There is merely the Forces will, and those who pervert the Force by ignoring its will and using their own will instead.
The balance is not a balance between light and dark, it is a balance in the same way that a healthy body is balanced. That means no one perverting the Force is what balance is.
