    Hi
Another issue on this 2007 ML320 CDI...
The wipers were constantly running from the moment the ignition was turned on... despite the switch being in the off position...
An interesting one, that shows how important live data can be...
    Hope you enjoy the video.
Any questions or comments put them below.

I did try to take a combi switch apart once . A long time ago . Threw it away after I got it totally screwed up . Your nerves are better than mine. On the other hand , you and me both understand the working of it . Only yours survived . Nicely done.

The thing is if any more come with this fault or inoperative wipers and its the SAM that's faulty, you know what wires to check and what plug to pull on the SAM.
The ability to check beyond fault codes and check live readings is one of the big things.
Although when you decided to strip the switch to bits I was impressed sir ☺️👍
As for the labour I'd certainly be charging something for the time spent on the SAM because the procedure was done to prove the SAM wasn't at fault rather than just guess at the switch.
Great video and well done on what was a somewhat painful job lol 10/10 sir👍

As Scanner Danner always says...don't be a parts changer. I love your videos dude! Mainly the most have changed the Sam unit instead of doing more measurements. Like a trial and error game with customers money. Like you, I always ask myself if I'm on the right way before I change any parts. Keep on going your expressive work! Greetz from Germany

Those little metal sliding arms are also found in vcr's and are usually the reason why tapes get spit out as soon as you put them in the vcr. The arms get lose over time and also dirty. I always use DeOxit contact cleaner on them and bend them a bit. Always works perfect afterwards.

Really good diag and a cracking example of the reality of diagnostic work. How on earth do you figure out what to charge for the time taken and the repair/replace decision. A diagnostic fee, an hour getting the switch off and an hour repairing it? Or the actual time it took (8+ hrs?) to figure it out? 🤷🏻‍♂️

      Hi
That was the second press of the stalk...
You can hear it at the start, when I was fully pressing the switch... at 09:25 you can faintly hear it at the back, as I fully press the stalker...
The fist press is to run the wipers once...

Great fix there. Do you charge the true amount of hours it actually took to diagnose/fix? Or do you adjust it for some more in line with what the customer would be expecting?

    • @LMAutoRepairs
      @LMAutoRepairs  3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

If you would the amount of hours...
1, I would have to stop recording these repairs... as it adds a lot to the length spent on any repair...
2, I would have to just replace rather than repair... as you can imagine, it is way easier and quicker to just replace...
This is a part time for me...
Does not really bother me how long I spend on any repair...
I do adjust in the end...😊😋

I have another question if you don't mind. I kept trying to find out on my own but after a few days of research still not sure. The scanner tool that you used to turn the wipers on and off and display the same way as yours, is there any Bluetooth scanner that does that too? I wasn't sure if needed $1000 tool or can it be done on a $100 tool ?
