Hi everyone! Here's a video showing how I like to draw fur. I slowed down a couple of clips to hopefully show more of the process. I used to worry so much about drawing fur or hair, but since learning this technique I genuinely enjoy working on it now. Really hope this video helps out in some way. Thank you so much again for the amazing support. Hope you're having an amazing day! :) -Chris
It's been quite a while since I have picked up a pencil and delved into some life drawing or pencil art. Too much computer related work and a lack of time, but you inspire me to want to make the time!
if it's not too much of a hassle, do you think you can link something like an Amazon list with all the equipment you use in each video. I would really love to use the same types of pencils and erasers as yourself, it just helps me be more confident in following your tutorials. many thanks, and keep up the very great work you do, it helps tremendously!
Hey Chris, I doubt you'll see this comment, but just on the off chance you do I just want to say thank you. I have watched this video over and over and I've tried using this technique and it works so well. I love using it, I've actually been on an animal drawing binge since learning this technique. You are truly an amazing artist and I love everything on your instagram and you channel. I really hope you never stop producing these amazing works of art.
Thank you so much for showing the strokes in slower motion first. It's very very very helpful. I also like how you showed the different pencils/pens you used along the way...
Thank you for this really clear explanation and demonstration. I can't tell you how many videos I have watched and how many times I have tried to do fur. Put it this way - I no longer need to put a base layer of blended graphite down anymore! As they say, practice, practice, practice.
I love this video! I share it with my drawing students, when they're stressed out about drawing hair. Not only do you demonstrate the techniques, but you do it in a really positive way, which makes it even better.
Freaking thank you. I've watched so many videos and they were either so long and drawn out that I couldn't bear it or they didn't describe in enough detail wtf was going on. Yours was straight straight the point and easy to understand!
YAY another artist that layers fur. I was beginning to feel lonely. Lovely pieces and so well explained. I picked up your use of a fine tipped eraser. I usually use an electric eraser, as I've found many Erasers too cumbersome. I'm going to give yours ago, as I think I will have more line control... Thanks!
Chris, Thank you for putting up this tutorial on fur. There are a lot of squirrels, cats and mice in the works I’m going to color, and this will help me immensely. Boy do I have a lot of practicing to do!
This video and your clear, concise description has given me such inspired guidance that I can't wait to get started! I am eternally grateful for this as I too have ALWAYS started with areas way too dark. Now I have your beautiful process as a guide. You ARE amazing and SUPREMELY talented! Thank you. Thank you. THANK. YOU. It's like a light bulb has been turned on.
Hello! I am a freelance artist and am now working on a drawing for my grandchild's room...lots of animals, etc ~ I usually draw more people and florals so animals are relatively new to my portfolio. Your method of drawing hair/fur here is excellent ~ very helpful. Thank-you...new subscriber here!! ✍😊 ...I will be watching...
I’m an artist and I do enjoy watching other people’s methodology’s!!!!!!! This was by far the best video and instruction I have seen to date!!! And a really good way to do fur!!!!!! Awesome 😎
This is one of the most helpful videos on drawing fur I've seen. Hair and fur have been a challenge for me. Just can't get it to look realistic. I tried your technique and I can see an improvement in my drawings. They don't look as good as yours, but they look better than what I've done in the past. Thanks for the tip. You got yourself a new subscriber.
I don't have any social media but I wanted to tell you, your videos helped me a lot for a drawing of a Batbear (Batman + Bear). I drew it as a Birthday present and it was apparently one of the best gifts he could get
Thank you for this video. It is so clear. We love all your video's. My son (9) and I watch them together all the time! It really is so nice to share our love for drawing with watching your video's. Especially all those amazing dragons!! Thank you!!
Yes! I really like that you did some real time drawing in your video rather than all time lapse. It makes it easier to copy what you're doing. Excellent. Please do more like this. 😊
Thank you so much for the kind words, Linda! I'll try to add more real time footage to future videos. It was fun to try something new for this tutorial and hopefully it helps out.
Thank you one thousand times! I'm going to start a project where I have to color fur and I've never done it before. I was honestly stressed and lost but now that I've seen this video I have a good idea how to achieve this look. Thank you so very much!
The environmental shading is very helpful. I read in a painting book about it but now I understand how it works. Thanks for sharing your awesome videos. I am going to share on Facebook as soon as I'm done. Thanks again.
I really like the more detailed tutorial/tip videos. I'd like to see more of these kinds of videos in the future. If i should say something that i would like to see, it would be seing more tips of what els you can do, other techniques, mainly because i can't draw like you :3 But anyways thank you as always for another piece of art, and some helpful techniques. I really am grateful for what you're doing.
Remarkable! It never occurred to me to use the eraser that way. I finally bought one of the same mechanical pencils you use and I couldn't be happier with it. So thanks for that too! I'm off to give this a go. Cheers, Darlin'est Chris. Many thanks and a load of hugs ~
For this week's Fantasy Friday, I think it would be awesome if you could do a Griffon. I have a huge love for fantasy and love that you do that on Fridays and watching you make a Phoenix as well as a Griffon would be awesome since they are both my favorite fantasy creatures. I also love how your Phoenix turned out.
I've always been extremely afraid of drawing fur 'cause it never ended up looking the way I wanted it... but after seeing this video I might give it another try and actually have a good feeling about it^^ thanks for those amazing tips and tricks :)
Thanks so much for this video. Ive been drawing since the beginning of the year and tried fur for the first time this month. Your video will really help. I'll go back and work on my cat now to improve on it
I do, but the video is quite old now. I might try to make a new one this year. There are quite a lot of animal eye drawing videos on my channel, too. Really hope they help. I like to use a Uni-Ball Signo Broad white ink pen.
hey its too awesome cool but would you make video of how you shade and how do you draw fine details or how to make any drawing more realistic/cool or face drawing
I love your videos and I was wondering where I could get the machanical pencils and any other materials I would need to use plz give me the information where I can get them
I really enjoyed your videos on how to draw animal fur and eyes in graphite! They are very helpful and well explained. I'd love to see how to do fur that clumps and separates into clumps like on some areas of a wolf or on a mountain goat. I'd also like to see how to get that soft fur effect on a bushy foxes tail or the soft fuzzy effect on a new little fox kit. Just layering doesn't seem to come out right.
Want to thank you for the detailed tutorials you do. For someone who is brand new to all of drawing anything I wanted to start off with animals did a terrible job on it. Would you please put in your link's to what kinds of erasers you used and the blending stick's I don't have anything except a rubber eraser and don't have a blending stick yet either I can't thank you for the video's I have no artistic skills at all. but it will help me with my coloring books and getting my fur eyes and correct too. long way to go coloring as well. 😃
since i remember i was scared of drawing detailed fur. you make this look so easy and enjoyable. maybe i will get back to my practices in some time :3. thank you for sharing your content. It is very pleasurable to watch.
Question....can I utilize this same technique with color pencil? I imagine you can but considering colored pencil is harder to erase it probably will be a bit more difficult.....okay thinking as I type I think I may have figured out how to do this with a colored pencil drawing, thanks alot bu the way very helpful.
This was very very helpful. I'm a beginner but I really want to draw animals. This was a perfect step by step video on how to draw the fur. Thank you for showing us your tips & tricks. 👌🏼
Thank you so much for this video on fur, I love drawing animals and I have a bad habit of always muddying my drawings and I saw another brilliant artist on Instagram and he was using a tombow for his highlights and very fine shading so I got one and it's something I've been looking for, I have pencil erasers which are great at erasing small surfaces but not much help for small thin highlights etc. I always thank artists who take the time to help us beginners, I'm more intermediate because I'm doing courses but it's irrelevant really because there is so much still for me to learn , I've just got to practice more, cheers Chris for all your videos 😁
I have watched two of your videos so far, and I have to tell you, I am definitely hooked! You have an awesome technique and what you have shown me I'm going to try to put to use. Thanks again!
Honestly I love your videos so much. You are really helpful with your tutorials, and your art looks magnificent. Just looking through the comments I can see how much of an inspiration you are to people! From what you comment, you seem like a really plesent person as well. I hope you reach at the very least 1 million subs, you deserve it ^w^
Thanks for your tips and stuff on drawing fur! my own drawing is coming along, im not completely satisfied (perhaps because I don't draw fur often). but I will keep at it
Can you do a video on how to draw fur using colored pencils(if u havent already) cuz i like colored pencils but im not that good at drawing fur with them

LethalChris Drawing thanks man it really helped
LethalChris Drawing it's realistic great work...😊
I agree 😁 his art blows me away !!!
Ik right
I really need to get myself a blending stick....
Connor Bettini i use my finger XD
It messes the drawing up sometimes :,)
So same
@@kerimekurt8448 Using a napkin/tissue works better than using your finger :P
if you don’t have a blending stump a q tip can work pretty well
I work with those make up things (like q tips) forgot how they're called. Work really well
Grab a piece of paper, roll it up really tight, ripe it in half, used the ripe side and twist it, and use it
if it's not too much of a hassle, do you think you can link something like an Amazon list with all the equipment you use in each video. I would really love to use the same types of pencils and erasers as yourself, it just helps me be more confident in following your tutorials.

Could you maybe make a video on colourings fur with your Copic markers?
Awesome suggestion! Thanks so much. :)
LethalChris Drawing no problem I'm glad that I could help!
That would be pretty cool, yeah
This is the best video of how to draw fur realistically. If I haven't watched this I wouldn't have ever known people use a small eraser. Thank you!
Thank you so much for showing the strokes in slower motion first. It's very very very helpful. I also like how you showed the different pencils/pens you used along the way...
Really glad to hear that, Kevin. :) Thanks so much for the support!
I watch so many videos about drawing fur this is the ONLY one that helped me finally understand fur THANK YOU
Thank you for this really clear explanation and demonstration. I can't tell you how many videos I have watched and how many times I have tried to do fur. Put it this way - I no longer need to put a base layer of blended graphite down anymore!

Is it just me or is a mechanical pencil speeded up really satisfying.

Where can u get the smallest eraser in this video? 🙃
amazon, its a 2.3 mm eraser
Elyse Vandeleur if you would like a specific brand, use the tombow mono eraser. they're on amazon as mentioned^
On the back of your peNcI- tbh idk hah
You can try earbuds... It works .
well take a eraser then a microscope and cut to your desired size.

The environmental shading is very helpful. I read in a painting book about it but now I understand how it works. Thanks for sharing your awesome videos. I am going to share on Facebook as soon as I'm done. Thanks again.

That is the best and simple fur drawing video. Thanks for sharing your technique.
Do you have video about eyes drawing?
And what is your highlight white pen
I do, but the video is quite old now. I might try to make a new one this year. There are quite a lot of animal eye drawing videos on my channel, too. Really hope they help.
I like to use a Uni-Ball Signo Broad white ink pen.
LethalChris Drawing how do you get your pencil to go that dark when drawing the eyes it is very annoying how i can't get the correct shading i need
Blank Unknown Try a softer lead. 4B or 6B is generally best imo for dark shadows. Also apply slightly more pressure.
LethalChris Drawing Thanks🤗
hey its too awesome cool but
would you make video of how you shade and how do you draw fine details or how to make any drawing more realistic/cool or face drawing

Did he use a pencil for the eye?? If he did, that's amazing! I didn't know you could shade with pencils (even a 6b) and make it look that dark.

You are so talented and thank you so much for sharing your technique. I wonder what kind of eraser you use - brand type model?
Thank you so much for the support. I used a Tombow Mono eraser.
LethalChris Drawing Thanks. I wonder - round or rectangle? Found both types when trying to order it on the net.
This video was really helpful! Thank you so much! I will defenitly watch this a few more times when I am drawing fur.

You're welcome :D
first I watched the cat video, and this really explains what you do in the fur! Thank you!
very helpful...Thanks!...question, Do you use one graphite throughout or multiple densities?
Thank you for making this video. Can’t wait to try this method out! Really would love to see more of your tutorials

But this really helped. Thank you!
How did you deal with not having the eraser? I dont have one aswell

Thank you for taking you time, and sharing your knowledge. Its great that you explain and share. Thanks man
Thank you for the support, Denis. No problem at all. I really hope the video is helpful.
So pleased to hear you teaching sound clear and easy.
how would you do this with digital art? Also really nice video, but in my drawing style I do lots of clumps of fur. Would I just do the same thing inside each clump or is there more to it?

Did you do a video on the drawing the cats eye that you showed at the end? The level of detail is incredible, it's beautiful!
