I looked at the left and thought, "huh. It's not so bad." then I looked at the finished product at the right and thought. " Huh. My standards are really low."
Exactly this
LOLOL
Same XD
Thorn'Tooth I really agree
Just like me
"Don't press the pencil too hard" *throws away sketchbook* I've been doing this from early childhood xD
Very helpful video btw! :)
Ahahaha if it works for you then keep on going, but if you aren't getting the results you want then maybe this is something that you could change and see if it helps you improve :D I am glad you found it helpful!
Kirsty Partridge Art I don't really like when it's shiny, I just can't help pressing. Actually, as I do more traditional art, I begin to press lighter, so I guess I'm going in the right direction. Also, never-ever thought of using that cotton stick for blending, I might try it out next time :)
Same thing!
I did just as u said I didn't press too hard sad thing my pencil doesn't write anything
@@amplebourne8255 You need drawing pencils or animation pencils with soft lead(B) or light shades (H). Softer is darker, comes of easier and lighter is harder composite but it keeps you from going dark quickly. If you are practiced, you can just straight up use a dark pencil lighly and gradually darken each pass.. No 2 pencils wont give you the same result. Hope it helps.
Kristy I learned a ton just in this one tutorial! Lost my Shepherd 3 months ago and want to draw him so this will help the realism!
I know it’s been a year after your Shepard passed away but I can tell you loved him to pieces. Sorry for your loss, dogs are too good for this world ☹️💕
Jeff DeLuca so sorry for your shepherd... I know it has been more than a year now, but loosing a dog is always very difficult, even more difficult than loosing a human sometimes... They’re always there for you and they don’t care about what people think of you or anything like that, they just love you and want to make you proud of them... people don’t seems to understand how difficult it is to loose a dog...
I’m sorry for your loss :(
I have a shepherd tooo! U can see her on my other channel, “LillieBeanie”
I’m sorry for your loss
May he Rest In Peace 🐺 ❤️
How to draw fur:
1. Draw some circles
2. Draw the rest of the fur
lol
So helpful.
You are a genius
Actually that's the video
the circles were for demonstration but i get your joke
Fur....my worst enemy
And hair
same
Im allergic so this applies to me...
XD
Any kind of drawing especially circles my worst enemy
Same, I’m a decent noob drawer but fur I can just never get it right!
My problem (one of quite a few in truth) is that I keep the drawing too light and don't go dark enough with the heaver pencils. I'm so afraid of spoiling it. I suppose it's as much about building confidence as it is about building layers. Great video, thank you.
commit one drawing to going dark. make it something small and nothing you would be too upset about if you mess it up. maybe redraw something you've already done. do this one drawing to the side and do NOT let yourself feel bad about "messing up" because only learning can come from this exercise. good luck and have fun!
MadHatterDJ just go for it. Dont be afraid of making mistakes. When i draw i dont always get it the first time. Learn from the mistakes from your failed drawing. Sry for late reply
This is exactly my problem
try charcoal :) it helped me a lot...with charcoal u always go dark and my fear turned into a passion
i color too dark lol so im learning how to draw lighter lol. im very heavy handed =( lol
Hello everyone! In this video I am going through my method for drawing realistic fur using graphite pencils and some common beginner mistakes :D I hope you enjoy the video! All MATERIALS are linked in the description :D Any subscribes, likes, comments and shares are really appreciated
Kirsty Partridge Art pure awesomeness... you are amazing
thank you...
Kirsty Partridge Art i
I need help on a other drawing, can you help my Kristy
Kirsty Partridge Art love you, I mean ur art
I realise now my biggest issue with my drawing is my lack of patience :O
Same I rush drawings but from now on I will take my time
I recently found this channel (1 hour ago) and THIS IS THE MOST HELPFUL ART CHANNEL EVER! Love your tutorials keep up the good work! :)
now 3 years ago lol
now 4 years ago
Now 5 years ago
Learning art techniques is so interesting. You just have so many of these 'ahhhh so that's what I've been doing wrong...' moments. Love it.
I love drawing. But I'm not getting good at it 😔
Just keep practicing, I am sure that you will get there soon :D
Keep going 🍃
I bet you are, it's hard for us artists to notice our own progress.
Compare a few works from various years. Try 6, 4, and 2 year old photos beside a recent one. You'll see many small or even maybe large changes!
Keep working, precise art takes time. ❤️❤️
Practice gives birth to perfection so do not abandon your love for drawing my friend.
The thing is you don’t see the progress, if you keep going you will get better! Try keeping your old art look at the old drawings you made, you’ll be able to see how much better you’ve gotten! Good luck!
I just finished drawing a wear wolf in London yesterday ,but due to my busy schedule it took me three weeks and four days to complete the drawing ,but when I did finally finished, the wear wolf body fur & the hair on his head was perfect! The portrait looked so real when I completed it that I asked the wear wolf to growl.
NyVin IT IS NOT POKEMON!!! It was things clothes or other types...
Isn't it supposed to be spelled "Werewolf"?
it’s spelled weird lol
Crystal Rosales the commenter deserves a r/boneappletea
Thank you 'fur' doing this
I'm sorry.
Edit: please just ‘fur’get about this comment
I’m so funny *top ten most horrible jokes that made people commit suicide*
Have Fun lol
AHAHAHAYAH
How punny of you
@weeby weeb this is "fur"king dumb

Can you do dos and don'ts of drawing fabric?
The "don't" side is still quite amazing lol
GreenFlame ya tbh :/
It isn't but ok :D
The don't looks more like a sketch if anything lol
She had to restrain her talent when trying to make a don't xD
the dont is trash
This is makeing me realy wanna cry. I’m useing alll the same graphite’s as her, AND drawing as light as I can, AND I’m still MESSING IT UP.
HOW DID SHE DRAW SO LIGHT!
My girls birthday coming up, i havent drawn in a long time, pray for me 😬
Sifat, how did it go?
Is she a werewolf?
He's dead lol.

I like how when you did the don’ts you didn’t exaggerate like like loads of other people do. (:

I'm 16 and rlly into drawing animal portraits and I've never considered alot of this!! I'm pretty confident in my art skill but I'll definitely apply alot of these in the future because I've always felt stuck while drawing realism :) thank you for this
Wow you're 18 now I think how's it going
This was very helpful! I’m drawing my service dog and I’ve never drawn a dog before so learning how to get the detail in the fur is very important. Thank you!
I was drawing yesterday to entertain my artist friend, it was my first time actually attempting and she was laughing at how mine looks like the left xD Imagine when I visit her again and suddenly bam right side fur.
You're an absolute angel, thank you so much Kirsty.

Wow, that was AWESOME!!!!! Thank you so much. I don't often leave comments (I should, I know) but I am just so happy and grateful for this video. I am working on the first cat drawing that I've halfway liked and I nailed all the markings and features, but the FUR! UGH! So now I feel like I know what to do! YAY! THANK YOU!!!!!!
very informative Kirsty, thank you for all the great work you do and sharing your knowledge with us all 😁😉
Thank you very much
Hello Kirsty, I am currently trying to learn realism, I have repeated this tutorial over and over and have almost got realistic fur thanks!!
My aunt asked me to draw three big drawings of her dead dogs and little does she know fur is my biggest weakness.. rip
That is sweet of you!
Omg! Your video is in this month's Colouring Heaven email newsletter! 💖💖💖
Oh perfect! I wondered why there were so light of graphite/pencil lead shades, I'd think "this is useless, can't see it well!" Glad you showed an alternative blending object for fingers. Will have to remember how useful Q-tips are for shading/blending. Wonderful tips, this was super helpful!
I really don't like drawing realistically but as of recent I've gained an lil interest in it. Although my cartoony knowledge brings me down when attempting realism. This video has helped.
I love drawing wolves and I am amazing at drawing fur but this gives me a bit more of a realistic drawing and a LIT look to it. So after the video I subscribed.
Bruh.. I'm watching this video because I wanna do a good wolf drawing that doesn't look like crap 🤣
I love the

I’m okay at drawing if I copy a reference photo. How do I create my own characters and style?
Xx_Gacha_moon_xX actually helpful that was
You can still use references and put it in your own style, for example I boldly outline my drawings because I like it more and it seems more cartoony which is what I love
Use pieces of multiple references to create a single piece and work on developing “your style” instead of trying to copy each individual line. Look for what sticks out most to you if you don’t have a particular vision and then create your focus on those points.
I never thought about using q tips for blending. Thanks!
Anyone else here for art homework?
I so am
This is a very helpful tutorial thankyou!!
I was like... "I'm not sure if I'm gonna watch this video." (One second in,) "ACCENT!!!! I love accents!"
I’m thrilled you answered me: thank you! Have been looking at/contemplating this video a fair bit. A friend in art school, like you, could draw what looked like every hair on a cat. Will subscribe! Thanks again 🙏
Can you do a tutorial on painting a face? With watercolors/acrylic paint
I don't normally paint faces unless I use mixed media, but I do want to practice more portraits in watercolour. So maybe soon :D
I think that it takes more than looking at a reference picture - it takes a huge amount of talent!!! I could look at the picture until I'm 90 but I guarantee at the end it wouldn't look anything as realist as your lion -beautiful. I would have liked to see your reference photo to have some idea where you are seeing the darks and lights..
I am really learning from your videos thanks
Thank you ! Greetings from Oaxaca Mexico
Kirsty, your channel is a gift from the heavens
Aww that is so sweet, thank you! :D
I love using my own dogs for reference whk have very different fur (Labrador and husky) but I cant thank you enough this helps so much for my portfolio to get to art school
I have a question:
I Shaw you used another eraser. !!!!
What kind of eraser was that that you used it was a little white thing. But what brand?
I already use needed erasers. But I need something for finer details.
Please let me know.
May your day hold joy.

I didn't notice I did this mistake, but now yes! Good video.
Almost 100k subscribers, it deserves a lot more though.

Love your art videos, they are so helpful 😊👌🏻
I used to make that mistake on the left but you gave me some great advice 📝
I love drawing! And your videos help me a lot!
That is great to hear! I am glad my videos have helped you :D
I love drawing and I love your channel even more
Lovey! This was very helpful
Thank you so much for making this video I just drew fur and it turned out very good
I like how you pronounce the letter "H" as "haytch" 😊 I've watched this video a dozen times, it's extremely helpful, thank you!
shut up
We have the same technique in drawing but your more knowledgeable. Thanks to your video, I learned something that will make my drawings more realistic. 👌👍
I love watching your tutorials, however, this has me puzzled- you start with hard graphite and gradually get softer but Other (also very good) tutors always say to put darks in first as softer grades will not adhere to the harder, purer graphite. What paper did you use.
I think thats mainly with layering charcoal ontop of graphite, as it won't blend and will just sit on top. Softer graphite pencils will blend nicely with harder graphite pencils if you're not pressing hard on the paper. She says to start light because it helps to get a good outline and layered effect, without smudging or having obvious erase lines if you make a mistake.
I hold my breath while watching this video. Awesome...
I watched this....
And I subscribed
Omg i love it!!! It's so detailed and dimensional!!! perfect.
So many deep lessons in one video
The fur on the left is also good as you are so talented, and can't draw that bad♥️
I look at the "do" and I say "I can do that" after 1 hour, it looks worse than the left.
This doubles as a tribble drawing tutorial.
Well Helloooo! that's me the drawing on the left🤣 just discovered your channel and subscribed. your fur tutitoral is so helpful!! It's amazing how talented you are! Can't wait to watch your other videos you explain things quite well. I'm just getting started with painting water colors and it seems I need to be able to draw first then go over with the water color paint. Got to get the supplies guess I need those type pencils and eraser...I'm excited to be learning something new🤗 Thanks so much for sharing your tips and techniques with us all😊🤗🌻
thank you! very useful! ^^
Man you make it look so effortless
This is so helpful!
Best tutorial ever!
Ah I’ve always been too impatient to be good at fur
Thanks for sharing I am watching from Townsville in Queensland Australia
Love it
Thank you so much. This video helped me a ton!! I was probably between the both and now I know that I've to spend more time on the rendering and studing the references. ❤️
hey thanks for the advice . I've been started sketching since 3 years ago and i only draw an anime ( Japan Animation character) and due to my curiosity i started trying some new style of art which is Semi realistic .. I quite often love Semi realistic but Since i want to improve and want to draw realistic ... i found your channel and this helps me alot .. Thank you :) You got a new subscriber ... Continue sharing your Awesome advice 😍
I feel like the do side is hard, but practice makes perfect. 😎👍❤️❤️❤️

Just beautiful. I really love your technique. Thanks
After seeing the finished “Do” fur circle, the “Don’t” fur circle looked like a mess of squiggles.
Something’s wrong with me 😂
My drawing skills have improved seeing ur vids thanks
drew most of my life then stopped and never realized i just scribbled fur/ hair like that
Can you please tell me what kind of paper you need to use and what kind of pencil do you use for the actuall drawing and for the shadow please? I usually use HB-2 but i don't know if it's the right one. Thanks🤗
I surely use the don'ts for my ... usual semi-realistic art XD or when I'm messy and just not familiar with how to make hair. xd I did improve it with human hair, but animal is still a practice. I know it doesn't differ too much but for some reason, I need to work on it more. xd as in: don't be a lazy frick LOL
Absolutely brilliant teacher and a great artist. 👍
I clicked this video to learn how to do the donts
