This is one of the best DIY tweaks anyone should attempt! Definetly inspired to do this myself now too. Awesome. In terms of "stereo bass": Bass in music is mostly mixed in mono. Not sure about interactive media tho. [edit] you answered those questions already. Good video!
Yeah Bass is an interesting topic to play around with. I didn't actually run tests on games to know how much difference there is. Can always lift the low pass filter up a bit to ensure you get some side specific differences.
This is sick! Always been curious about Haptics for immersion in games and movies but the premade stuff is always so expensive, don't know why it never occured to me that I have the skills to just make my own 🤷♂ Thanks for a great video mate! Subscribed!
Yeah man i originally made my mono bass shaker mod for almost the price of shipping alone, for an off the shelf model from overseas. Since they're like wiring up a custom sound system, just need to bolt to your chair 🤙
General advice when uising the screw down connectors and any stranded wire you want to put ferrules on them, but there is pretty much no reason to use the screw downs anyway
Honestly would be worth the experiment! I gravitate to laser cutting for projects that are mostly large stacked layers. Could try 3D printing, just unsure how the layer bonds will do with the vibrations
yes, you can, as long as your amp can power the speakers. best to check impedance values, and calculate the wattage of the existing speakers plus the shakers.
Files for my exact mounts are linked in the description of this video. I can have a look at adding some links for the connectors I described, but most are typical in an electronics store
Very curious about stereo physical bass. I've always heard, and experienced, that bass is omnidirectional so positioning doesn't matter except for intensity. I'm very curious about how feeling it directionally affects the experience. Is it weird? Or better? Or both!
The wavelength of sub frequencies is so large that when it pushes out of the driver it will wrap around the cabinet and go omni directional. A Servo driven magnet like the bass shaker is not going to be omni directional because it’s not emitting audible frequencies. However, when it comes to music, almost every single music producer is summing frequencies under 100hz to mono because stereo information in the sub range tends to introduce phasing. Most concert speaker configurations have a left and right mid and upper range speaker hangs, and then a mono sub wall across the middle. having stereo bass shakers isn’t going to really do much for 99% of the music out there
Great response @dsquareddan, yes for music and general media content it's not going to make much difference. Home theatre amplifiers will have a mono sub output, even if there's two they both usually say mono. To answer your question Adam, Gaming, that's why the stereo route with shakers. As Brett said, it's subtle but noticeable, as for how much it might be worth me testing some games to see if they mix low end of explosions to both left and right, or if they keep them separate based on the game asset on screen like they do with mids and highs. This no doubt is why the Razer cushion is very interesting, as it's dedicated haptic patterns being triggered by game developers to different areas on the body for what's happening on screen. Might have to get my hands on one and do a test between Low pass filtering game audio vs intentional haptics.
yeah got another desk vid planned before the end of the year :) It's at the point where each upgrade will take either programming or something more bespoke than the other stages so will take more time to create so mixing it with my regular tech reviews and projects.
miniware ts80p: s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DBGeyCX There are newer models out, but I love the USB-C models that allow you to sperate the tip and pack into a small bag
Haha but a bass shaker tends to localise the vibrations, unless you bolt them to your adjacent wall 😆 Actually look up exciters, they're treble frequency transducers that turn any surface you bolt them too into a speaker! Obviously for scientific experiments, I'm not condoning neighbour wars lol
I've thought of it but honestly can't be bothered plugging in to charge the chair. Which then makes me realise just running the speaker cable across with a quick plug is a good solution
@ that’s true I couldn’t agree more, either way it was a great project my applause’s to you sir. Who knows maybe when I get the time to make content I’ll try my hand at it and send you a link. Keep making 🔥 content
That is true, would then make it easier to unplug especially if the cable was yanked. I do however like the professional feel of the speakon, satisfying twist and click 👌
Why don't you use Voicemeeter potato it has a lot more features. I used to use banana now i use potato and i like it a lot. The only problem is its way more confusing but i get used to that. If its because of the windows size that wouldn't fit on your bottom screen that's really annoying.
ohhhhh damn that sucks :( I really wanted to buy a subpac, they were the original inspiration for the mod back 4 years ago. But I simply couldn't afford it and went the DIY route. It's sad to see the struggles faced in getting products into the hands of excited customers.
I'm guessing you didn't watch the entire video? I pointed out subpac haven't shipped some people's orders for over 3 years. So no, that is not the easy way.
I’m working on a project similar to yours but on a smaller scale I need halo though cus I don’t have much experience I dm’d you on insta on with the same username

@@camshand I have done the mod myself now too, with the same speakers (16 ohms) and amp. It's awesome with music and gaming. I love it.

Best mod I ever did
I really hope this video will get more views eventually

General advice when uising the screw down connectors and any stranded wire you want to put ferrules on them, but there is pretty much no reason to use the screw downs anyway
that is a good tip, I ended up using the screw downs on the desk as that was the cheapest option to buy in bulk at the local electronics store.
What is the reasoning behind using laser cut ply wood for the mounts instead of 3d printing?
Honestly would be worth the experiment! I gravitate to laser cutting for projects that are mostly large stacked layers.
Could try 3D printing, just unsure how the layer bonds will do with the vibrations
If you have an existing amp could you just use a splitter cable and a inline low pass filter adapter ?
yes, you can, as long as your amp can power the speakers. best to check impedance values, and calculate the wattage of the existing speakers plus the shakers.
I wonder what will happen if we listen to Crab Rabe in this chair.
He can’t do that now that it’s November. He would lose.

Nice! May have to try this
It's a great mod to do, and when doing the mono sandwich plate style it is almost half the price of the quad stereo option.
I wonder if big data has recorded a link between me watching a Cam Shand video and then hitting up Bunnings.
The data will be there Rhys... Whether or not they're acting on it is the question haha 😅
Heyy
Can u share the connections and as the placements of the bass shaker on the chair

Now add heat for fire in games.
hahaha I wonder if I could add heating and cooling pads that somehow reacted to games
I understand not wanting to modify the chair but would be sick to toss that little amp into the chair too.
Maybe one day! There is a fair bit of empty space in the backrest, at least feels that way.
You should make MagSafe for CarPlay
watched the video even tho when i open my controllers i straight up rip off the rumble cables
Hahaha that legit made me laugh out loud 🤣
4:09 dog wood escape action.
haha oh my it was a close swing at Norman's face, might have to get him a hard hat for project time 😅
Or instead of a spekon cable you 3D print yourself a housing so you can put 2 normal plugs in it and connect them in 1 go.
That is true, would then make it easier to unplug especially if the cable was yanked.
