Where is the second video?
I was thinking today that Collings should do an acoustic guitar that only the bass side of the soundboard is Torrified, and the treble side of the soundboard is NOT Torrified. And if they chose to use a tonewood on the back that would benefit from being torrified then bake only the treble side of the back wood. This way you get a guitar that has a punchy low end frequency but the mid range and trebles will end up sounding more airy. An un-torrified back wood under the torrified top will contribute more of woody sounding harmonies. And the torrified back under the un-torrified top on the treble side will help to make the mid range and treble frequencies LEAP out of the guitar. I think it would be kinda the best of both options. If I made a guitar like that I would call it, HALF BAKED 😂

Ive worked at a few saw mills, we never got the kilns over 140. Even at that you start out slower and lower for the first week staying around 90 and run plenty of water on the floor to add humidity. You need to slowly dry wood out so that you dont get a honeycomb effect where the outside gets so hard the bound moisture in the center cant escape. We would leave a load in the kiln for about a month but the lumber also air dried for 6 months prior to going in the kiln.
I have three guitars that were torrified. They sound great and are very light! That helps my back feel better too!

I have a Martin Om28 vts custom shop. It sustains forever and every note on the guitar sounds great. The vts sure does something to this guitar that makes it sound better. I bought it used online while shopping for an om28 and decided to take a chance. It might be a combination of the bracing, wood and vts but l love it. Mine does not have any streaking or browning. The overtones are amazing.

lol, I bought a Mitchell 12 string from guitar center really cheap years ago, you should hear this thing now, totally amazing. I can't believe how well built it is. I originally had problem with the neck, seemed twisted. I took the strings off for a long time (months) and realized that they were medium gage, witch was probably too much stress. I strung it up with regular light gage and it was miraculous, seriously perfect. Crystalized or whatever, the tone is there.

Hey!! I have a fun and strange story about this.
I live in Pasto, a city in the south of Colombia. Here, the guitar making is not so hyped like in USA, and you can find some really great guitar makers and artisans who can make beautiful instruments at really low prices.
One of them, made me a "Cuatro", which is a venezuelan traditional little guitar shaped instrument with 4 strings. Mine has a solid spruce top, walnut back and sides and purple heart pickguard (I think you can call it a pickguard). It is a beautifull instrument. But, when it was new new new, I tried it and it didn't sound that good. So I tell my guitar maker, "Hey, how can I make this better", and he said: "play it, play it and feel love when you play. Also, you can try to put some hot pepper seeds inside the guitar, and leave them there. They will help the wood and dry the cells inside".
So, I put the seeds and I played with love. I'm hearing difference in the sound, but I don't know if it just a placebo.
He told me that this would work here, in Colombia, but you must be careful when doing it in countries with seasons, becouse the seasons and the seeds can make the wood a little weak. So, it is a nice experiment to try!!
Also, my Cuatro cost me around 150 usd, it was a gift and it is all handmade.

Since we're on the topic of cooking guitars, if your house gets hot you should lower your string tension to avoid flying bridges

I also have a Martin Jr. that I’ve had for almost 6 years now. The spruce top has such a nice “tan” on it now. It’s just gorgeous. Of course, it sounds great!
I’m in the same process at 3 years! I started putting the guitar into a room with a dehumidifier every once in a while and it seemed to change quicker and looks amazing. Now I just need to learn to play it better 😅
I was looking at the Orangewood's Sage model, but ultimately went with a Cort Gold O6 instead since I like the OM size better and saved almost $200 (on sale). The Cort also has the torrefied top and sounds amazing. Major turn off to Orangewood was the 1 year warranty. If we find out these age well, maybe I'll pick one up used in the future. Keep these videos coming. You're great at it!

Any chance you'll do a full review on the Hudson the way you did for the oliver? Your oliver video is what helped make my decision to buy it. I would love to hear what you have to say about the Hudson. Im loving the Oliver but so curious about their high end guitars.

I bought the Morgan Mahogany live from them a couple years back. Great guitar. For well under 300 shipped, and a sound that will only get better with time, it’s a keeper.
Yes so true have a Orlando guitar and it sounds real open up and bassy it’s about 50 years old solid top classic guitar 🎸 and it sound to good better then my new FGX800c
Oh and it sounds good with chord progression your picking

Well that Orangewood sounds great, I have a Taylor 114 no electronics from 2011, boy I tell you. it's really nice.
that hudson has a great sound
Old violin makers say you should ammoniate the wood. It is a process wherein the wood is closed up inside a space with a solution of ammonia and bleach. They say this ages the wood in appearance and tone. I work with a luthier, and we find this process to work very well when building guitars.
I'm no chemist but mixing ammonia and bleach is a bad idea.
@@JeremySheppard Well, of course it can be a danger. That is why it is enclosed in a container where it can't be inhaled. We've been doing it for years with good results.

Yes, play it. A lot. I owned a ToneRite for a few months at one point and I couldn’t tell any difference after using it.

I really like the sound of that one Jeremy. Sounds a little like your Waterloo. Nice video btw. Some say that torrefied guitars don't age as well compared to slow drying over time. Like if you rushed winemaking or dry herbs in the microwave it is usually is not as good in the long run. The Pre War Guitar Co. makes some of my torrefied favorites. They really sound like the old Martins and Gibsons.

Dang thing sounds great! Everything you said I'm sure is true, but having someone who knows how to play makes all the difference too. Someone who plays great on a cheap guitar is going to sound better than someone who can't play on an expensive one.
Yeah it does sound nice . Compare it with that J45 you picked up last month and see if it makes me stop trying to figure out how to explain why I need a Gibson in my house 😬

Great guitar, mediocre company. I’ve owned 2 and I do like the one I have now but I did a lot of work to it I order to get the sound I have now. Great review keep up the good work broheim
Thanks for the kind words. I've had two and both played really well out of the box but I would bet mine get a finer toothed comb for QA/QC.
@@JeremySheppard yea I would imagine so lol. Mine actually came with blemishes that got shrugged off when I immediately notified the company. Then a few months later I saw ones on the site with the same or less blemishes being sold for $90. I also messaged them regarding the bridge pin size and they told me the wrong size. I bought them and and them few then in my gig bag for a later project only to find out after I couldn’t return them that they were indeed the incorrect size. When I contacted Orangewood about it they said oops and they told me I could have a starter gift bag which was nice but I already have everything there. Just felt kinda jaded. But I figured it all out by myself as they were no help. That’s why I said that they make good guitars, but are a mediocre company. But I do really like their all solid models. Mine currently is an all laminate but I’d like to upgrade soon but not sure if I should to an all solid. Anyways hope you’re doing well broheim
