@@PaulEmmanuelMusic Morgan mahogany live. Got it back when they popped into the scene. And all I could think is, for the price how absolutely brilliant it was. It’s worth noting, that the problem starts at the price point of yours. At 600-1000 dollars, there’s a ton of competition. Not just from major manufacturers, but in the used market. I still think it’s worth it, and plan to get probably a sage mahogany live, or even a spruce one like you got. I just feel the need to express the honesty there. That to be awesome at $300 is so much easier than it is to be awesome at a grand. Looking forward to seeing more of the new axe!
@@MatthewFant that’s awesome man that you got the Morgan when they first came out. I hear ya about the 600-1000$ price point. There definitely seems to be some truth to that. Especially since Martin revamped their Road series in 2019. I am actually hoping to do a new vid soon speaking to this very point of comparing Orangewood $1000 price point guitar(s) to others such as Martin & Taylor.
@@PaulEmmanuelMusic there ya go. As long as the company continues their awesome checking of every guitar, and setting them up, and they don’t just drop ship like the major companies that import, I could see them winning a good niche of the market share. Time will tell though.
@@MatthewFant yeah, I agree. I see here and there on FB group some folks having some cosmetic issues when receiving the guitar. So as long as they can keep a good grip on quality control, I feel like their current business model could really do well. But as you said, time will tell. :)
Sounds really nice. I’ve been looking for a new guitar for a while and this brand is probably the most appealing. The sound and price range is great. Thank you for the demo.
i like that simple very understandabble demo . not going hard with fingerpicking rush when you can not hear anything. you good, dear. appreciate for your simple way to showing that one. i ll plan to purchase one here around next week. your video was a last drop for to make a decision. have a nice guitars ahead
I've had my Hudson for a little over two years now and I love it. My first OW was the Echo. Another very nice guitar. OW guitars are an amazing value and my Hudson easily competes with guitars costing 3-4 times it's price. Orangewood is a great company that in my opinion is second to none. They've got it together. Recording King is another company that is putting out fine guitars and making them affordable. It's all good.
A lot of guitar snobs don't like Orangewood guitars. I sure don't understand why. They have such great playability. The intonation is right on. And the tone is very good for the money. I bought an Echo Live for about $350 and I play it more than any other guitar I have, including my 94 HD28.
Thanks for your comment! I have tried an Eastman in the past and wasn't a big fan of the sound. Do you own that Eastman model? If so, how do you like it?
@@PaulEmmanuelMusic Yes I do. Bought it in 2014 down in San Diego. It has a delightfully comfortable even C shaped neck and a piano sound. It's lovely! Of course I had to have it set up when I got it, but it's perfect!
Paid $254 for a lefty Morgan....my $1700 Martin never made me this happy. Got the parlor sized guitar for my daughter....set up great...but tone is 'parlor' and not as impressive...but for $150...a great instrument for a beginner/kid/small framed person. Love OW.
Great vid! So how would you compre this to a Martin D28? I’m thinking I can save up and down the road get a D28 or get a Hudson now. I’m looking for it to sound great and last me a long time.
Thanks!! Well, I would say trying to compare the Orangewood Hudson to a Martin D28 is a bit like comparing oranges to apples. They are both fruit, yet have completely different taste and texture. Similarly, the Hudson and D28 are both dreadnoughts, but I would say sound very different. The D28 is spruce and rosewood, while the Hudson is spruce and mahogany. They both have the booming resonance that only a solid wood dreadnought can produce, but each has its own sonic tonal qualities and sound. When you buy a guitar it’s super important to really sit down and play it and really listen to it and feel it. That being said, Orangewood guitars are very affordable since they don’t markup the price like a Martin will be if you buy at a music store. Personally I am very satisfied with my Hudson, and pretty sure I even prefer the way it sounds to my HD-28 I used to own. The quality seems great to me. I would probably compare it to a $1500-$2000 Taylor or Martin. The Hudson is $995. Orangewood also gives you 30 days to return the guitar if you don’t like it for a full refund minus original shipping cost and $15 restock fee.
@@PaulEmmanuelMusic that’s crazy to hear this can hold it’s own to a Martin for the price it’s at. That’s a good deal from Orangewood, return in 30 days so don’t have much to lose this way lol. If it’ll last me a long time and it’s built well, sounds good then it’s a very good deal. Maybe it’ll gain popularity down the road and we’ll see them more often.
I have the Oliver Mahogany and it blew me away when I first got it. I would not hesitate one second to buy another Orangewood. The only thing I SS when I was looking was the fact that once you enter this price range, there is a lot of great guitars out there. I just purchased a brand new Seagull Maritime SWS solid wood with electronics for about $900. That was without a case but I have plenty of cases. But I was actually looking at Orangewood guitars again and it was a hard decision. I’m a huge fan of Seagull from prior experience.
I like the Hudson I really do, but I mostly play Blues and Bluegrass...to me the Manhattan has that muddy kick your dog kinda sound. Still the Hudson is a excellent guitar.
@@AB-yi5xy I gotcha. For me I would have to say I like my Hudson better. But this is also a very subjective topic. And in this context a bit like comparing apples to oranges. Best of luck on your guitar journey! :)
Might I suggest a much heavier pick. Nothing ruins the sound of a guitar more than hearing the pick hit the strings. With a heavy pick, you hear the string and not the pick. I can hear your pick way too much.
Well, it’s been about 2 years since I have played the Martin, but from what I can remember I would say both have similar depth, but of course tonality is very different.
@@PaulEmmanuelMusic nice, I was just wondering because I was in the market for purchasing either a Martin 16 special or the Hudson live. One of my main concerns with orange wood guitars is that their guitars tend to buzz at times especially for the lower end models.
@@Acekilla213 I gotcha. Well, I know it’s a risk ordering an Orangewood if you haven’t played it. I personally am not a fan of Martin’s dove tail neck joint. Not sure if they use that joint on the 16 or not. Also, I like the fact that with Orangewood you have a 30 day return policy where you can return the guitar minus original shipping cost and $15 restock fee. Plus, I really like that you don’t pay a markup cost on any of their guitars. Choosing the right guitar is very personal and subjective, so it really comes down to your preference. I personally would have never thought of buying a guitar without playing and listening to it first, but this is now the second time recently with the Hudson (first was a Taylor), and both times the guitars have been great. I will say that I was very surprised at how good the Hudson sounded when I first started playing. For the cost I really feel that it’s an amazing deal!

Could you imagine the look on my parents faces when ANOTHER guitar shows up at the door? I've been torn between this one and the Martin D10e as my first all solid wood guitar. This video has me on the edge of sending it with the orangewood haha
Explaining why a guitarist needs more than one or ten guitars is tough. My wife is the same way. But you are buying something literally ALIVE that even today has a LOT of hand work in it and with care it will last a LIFETIME with a very good resale value as good quality acoustic guitars actually get BETTER with age! If you had multiple cars or homes or even expensive jackets it would be different (well, maybe not the jackets!). Every guitar has it's own personality and they change with the weather and the strings and with age, amazing creations. The ability of Chinese and other Asian craftsmen to make very good guitars for a price that is crazy low compared to the inflation adjusted prices of the past is a VERY big thing that is happening in the acoustic guitar world. Let me say if I was single I'd be buying an Orangewood guitar EVERY MONTH or at minimum one for my birthday and for Christmas as a present to myself. Maybe for Memorial Day too.
What you're really asking "Is this better than a $3000 guitar"? I certainly hope everyone understand the ridiculous waste of time these comparisons are. Would be much more useful to compare it with something 50 to 100 dollars more and less expensive. The gods of diminishing return dictates that more cost is limited by the discernable increase in performance; the rest is simply aesthetics. All things being equal, what sane person wouldn't rather own, play, and be seen playing an expensive well made guitar?
Loved the video! Definitely helped me made my decision on wanting this guitar!
