Stevie put his foot down, asserted himself as a serious artist and broke away from the Motown sound, which had dominated the pop charts throughout the 60's. Many child stars struggle to find their footing as they mature. Stevie didn't miss a beat. To this day the cat sounds incredible. His talent that can not be measured.

manny, thanks for this track listing! At 17:12 Stevie is doing a sweet instrumental version of "What's Goin On" by Marvin Gaye. And 30:46 til Papa they are just jammin out on Signed Sealed, and they are totally gettin down! And some cool civil rights commentary by Stevie to the audience.
People probably don't know,I got this due to subscriptions to other outlets which led me to this.BUT I'm familiar with Stevie and the program, there is also a documentary on this show... EXCELLENT
Exactly. I went to the same concert in SF during 1972. I was so giddy and excited to see the Stones, but Stevie absolutely blew them out of the water. His set was so joyous and musical, while the Stones performed a cold perfunctory 45 minute set. After that concert I never bought or intentionally listened to a Rolling Stones album again, but I wore out the grooves of every Stevie Wonder album I could get my hands on.
It was the Winterland Arena, a much smaller venue than the Cow Palace. The concerts were billed as a way for the band to atone for the catastrophe at Altamont a couple of years earlier, as I recall.
I saw stevie in vegas on his “songs in the key of life” tour in 2013 when he performed the whole album….i don’t need to see anyone else. shout out to ray parker, jr. and his wonderlove bandmate ollie e. brown who would join ray in his band raydio and later ollie & jerry (there’s no stopping us from the movie breakin’) i thought i was going to see deniece williams who also started out as a background singer in wonderlove. GOD bless our last living black musical genius
I will always regret not going to see that tour. I had only really listened to Stevie's radio hits at that time. A couple years ago I realized that I had Songs In The Key Of Life in my vinyl collection, and I became obsessed. I must have grabbed that record at some point and never spun it. Pretty much every track is terrific.
Music of my Mind was the first record I ever heard growing up listening to my Dad's record collection. Although, I was very young the memory & influence still exists today in 2024. Thank you Stevie, for your musical genius & incredible contribution to our world. We love you!

His fro was on point! I used to go to Compton Calif and get my fro cut every two weeks like that. yep that was like 1971 or 72 now that I think about it!!!!
hope he is able to still tour at least once more, i would pay top dollar to see stevie wonder at least once in my life!!!!! one of the best to ever do it
I’ve seen over 500 concerts from over 300 world-famous performers, including about 6 shows by Stevie. Stevie is by far the greatest live performer that I know of. I also met him once and he’s super friendly.
I would 99.9 percent agree with you if it weren't for Aretha's cover of his song Until You Come Back To Me(he did not release his version until later because hers was soo good). Aretha is one of the very few who can cover a song and it then becomes hers lol.
What a blessing to the world. He really wakes your soul up to allow it to appreciate the multiple dimensions of spirituality that embrace the various beautiful aspects of the soul so it can open up to love. A true gift to humanity that won't be ignored. He has a kind heart and a politically sharp mind. What more can you want,or ask from a humane being.

This TH-cam announcement is wrong. The heading is about the date where i was in my life. I was 2, but this album was released in 84.This record is about the life of a man listening. When he listened he stopped and sang, so i listened about his range. When he stopped i stopped listening. I don't listen much, but i listen. He never talked after that, but did. I didn't understand him. I understood me. I liked the records, but he didn't talk. What i am trying to say is that "Stevie Wonder" aka Steve Morison is not real. The records are though. I am the owner of this peace of Science. The reason people redo the records and then send them here are well being sought. Science will keep, but i don't like talking much. ~ Owner of a NASA Science.
WOW i never put two and two together the marvin gaye whats going on jam linking into my chermie amour was part of this same performance with that monumental delivery of You and I too!!!! im only 18mins in and constantly amazed by stevie & his band
In the 70’s Stevie was magic, I bought all that he released even the other people he wrote and produced for etc but for some reason after The Hotter Than July album it all kind of dived ? But I still love and respect this giant of music.

Stevie Wonder was 22 years old in the video.
That rendition of You and I drove me to tears
It melts me
Saw him open for the Stones in '72 in SF and he was sooo much better than them...love you Mr. Finger Tips

Been listening to Stevie since a child❤
72 was a magic moment for Stevie, and for music as a whole. This is special.
Not too many musical legends left in this world Thank goodness we still have Stevie !!

My Mum played Stevie Wonder to me and I loved it. I dug back into the early 70s albums and loved those. Now my son listens to them as well.
Scott Edwards on Bass !! People look up his credits. He is criminally underrated - he should be a household name for every bass player.
I just did, man what a incredible and varied resume he had.
He's one of few legends still alive!!!
Love You Stevie!!
Yeah man....the Longevity is unbelievable!
gods gift to the world, stevie wonder !
Yes indeed

Stevie was one of the first musicians to utilize the talkbox.
This was literally a dance version of Papa was a rollin stone already. He remixed it
@@kasper7250 that doesn’t negate the fact that he’s one of the early artists to use a talkbox.
I’m absolutely crazy about Stevie but have to correct you on this. Pete Drake had a massive hit called Forever in 1964.
@@Dgulsvig3 to be fair the OP did say “one of the first…” and not the first.

Why part of My cherie of Love is sang in Italian?
Probably because he has recorded versions of that song in which he sang them in foreign languages including Italian.
9th wonder
🙋🏾♂️ Why do performers sing their songs too fast?
Adrenaline or too much good cocaine .
Does it really matter
Too fast for who??? U? Not too fast for the performer obviously.
