I was in Sarima over the weekend and the conditions are still the same. I witnessed a 6-year old boy bitten by a snake looking for help but its sad that a company that is being compensated by KPLC upto 700M per month cannot equip the local dispensary to handle such local problems. The only free clinic has only antibiotics.

They stand overnight because the manyattas are not water proof. Then worst of all the soil never drains the rain water so it has to evaporate to dryness.

It was barren land. Investors came and found a way to use it without interfering with the people’s way of life. But I’m sure that’s not news worthy. The people who sell the alcohol and the people who use it are the locals. That’s a sign that they have a higher income enough to indulge in lifestyle mistakes. The project footprint is large so not all social benefits go to Sarima. You have not mentioned that almost 250km of road was graded from Laisamis to Sarima. That is all LTWP catchment. They also need schools and hospitals. If all the catchment area was given all that they wanted, would it be a good investment? I’m not holding brief for anyone but LTWP has done better than other projects of such magnitudes in the region. It’s good to catch a good story but it’s good to tell both sides of the story and let your audience decide which is right.
