I toured Gettysburg in 1973 when I was nine; the LBG told us the equestrian story & the southerners were looking for shoes. I believed both for many years. I don’t recall the LBG’s name, but he had to be in his 70s or 80s. 🙂
Oh I know. I’ve heard them say it too. This was like 25 years ago, but I believe that equestrian story up until just a few years ago. I was crushed when I learned it wasn’t true. It’s funny how history changes. That’s why it’s good that historians keep digging on subjects that have already been written about. Keeps things fresh
