I am an Indian in a white collared job and I have travelled across many parts of India (and abroad) and nothing reeks of fourth world mediocrity as India. Sure there are stunning beautiful places like our tourist attractions (mountains, beaches, wildlife etc.) but remember these are the minority. The majority of India lives and experiences squalor of the kind that was shown by B&B so let us not kid ourselves. All our cities are broken and are the epitome of poor planning / infra. It is only when you escape to these touristy places (which only 5% of Indians can do), does one find relief. (BTW our tourist attractions are also on the decline, you have to see the mess our hill stations have become). And for the privileged elites like us, we create our own private 'first world cocoon' where we interact / socialize with people with only our own socio-economic background in ‘first world’ settings like someone’s private homes, clubs, restaurants, bars or farm houses. So again, MAJORITY of India s like this. I am not keen on purposely beating us down, so don’t label me as anti-national. But it is only when you accept the truth, you can take steps to improve.

This video proves that India allows even the poorest of the poor to survive and afford a train along with food and everything. Even tribals, labourers and utterly poor worker class can afford a 2nd-3rd class sleeper ticket. However, their coaches are less maintained and ignored by the govt, which is sad, but they still treat you so beautifully with an open heart. If you have issues travelling the poor class coaches, I'd suggest you to get a 2nd or 1st class AC ticket.

went to India this past December for a wedding. luckily my buddy married an awesome lady with a pretty wealthy family who put us up in nice hotels, made sure we didn't eat any rubbish, and stayed away from the poors :D . still got sick and ended up in a hospital for 36 hours. the lack of sleep, all the whiskey, dehydration, pollution, and India in general still fucks you if you're not from there - no matter how careful you are. 10 days in India flew by, India is not for the weak.

Third class Sleeper ticket for 14 hours is unnecessary torture unless you want to suffer for viewers or really don't have money for a better and more comfortable ticket. You could fly from Varanasi to Kolkata in perfect comfort for under $100. I don't know why these two insist on suffering. I am originally from Moldova and now I live in east London and yes Moldova is poor but streets are much cleaner compared to East London (Ilford,East ham, Forest Gate ,Dagenham etc) and is all due to rich white collar Indians communities living here. I have been in Egypt once in a 5 star hotel and me my friend and his wife had food poisoning. When we went to local clinic there was a queue with same problem. Half of our holiday was ruined plus my mate stepped wrongly on hotels terrace because of bad planning (hotels fault) and had a cast placed for 500 dollars(doctor said he has a cracked bone) . My mate removed the cast after a couple of days and he wasn’t happy at all is nothing said….For me is no difference India or Egypt . Both countries are in black list

I'm not someone who tries to excuse or defend what the British Empire did in India or anywhere else. British schools don't do a great job of teaching about the British Empire, but the BBC and others made plenty of documentaries on the subject over the years, and not all of them tried to portray it as something positive or offer excuses. There are also plenty of books available, and I have read a few, so there's no need for sarcasm.

I went to India 2 years ago and discovered the messed up culture scams and hatred of forigners. They hide it well with smiles and talking softly. My girlfriend felt unsafe the entire journey. Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangldesh was awsome with trustworthy people.

I am an Indian in a white collared job and I have travelled across many parts of India (and abroad) and nothing reeks of fourth world mediocrity as India. Sure there are stunning beautiful places like our tourist attractions (mountains, beaches, wildlife etc.) but remember these are the minority. The majority of India lives and experiences squalor of the kind that was shown by B&B so let us not kid ourselves. All our cities are broken and are the epitome of poor planning / infra. It is only when you escape to these touristy places (which only 5% of Indians can do), does one find relief. (BTW our tourist attractions are also on the decline, you have to see the mess our hill stations have become).
And for the privileged elites like us, we create our own private 'first world cocoon' where we interact / socialize with people with only our own socio-economic background in ‘first world’ settings like someone’s private homes, clubs, restaurants, bars or farm houses. So again, MAJORITY of India s like this. I am not keen on purposely beating us down, so don’t label me as anti-national. But it is only when you accept the truth, you can take steps to improve.

I was an avid and enthusiastic traveler in my 20’s. India was never on my list and it never will be either.
Something as simple as waking travelers up at 4am on a train to ask if they want tea or if they want to donate money speaks volumes to me. went to India this past December for a wedding. luckily my buddy married an awesome lady with a pretty wealthy family who put us up in nice hotels, made sure we didn't eat any rubbish, and stayed away from the poors :D . still got sick and ended up in a hospital for 36 hours. the lack of sleep, all the whiskey, dehydration, pollution, and India in general still fucks you if you're not from there - no matter how careful you are. 10 days in India flew by, India is not for the weak.

I am originally from Moldova and now I live in east London and yes Moldova is poor but streets are much cleaner compared to East London (Ilford,East ham, Forest Gate ,Dagenham etc) and is all due to rich white collar Indians communities living here. I have been in Egypt once in a 5 star hotel and me my friend and his wife had food poisoning. When we went to local clinic there was a queue with same problem. Half of our holiday was ruined plus my mate stepped wrongly on hotels terrace because of bad planning (hotels fault) and had a cast placed for 500 dollars(doctor said he has a cracked bone) . My mate removed the cast after a couple of days and he wasn’t happy at all is nothing said….For me is no difference India or Egypt . Both countries are in black list

British schools don't do a great job of teaching about the British Empire, but the BBC and others made plenty of documentaries on the subject over the years, and not all of them tried to portray it as something positive or offer excuses. There are also plenty of books available, and I have read a few, so there's no need for sarcasm.
