Trains are both cheap and well standard. I Live in Kolkata, I travel to Varanasi every year but never suffered as he suffered. I think it was the cheapest train in the route. We choose 3 Tier Ac Sleeper to travel.

As a Indian, I acknowledge the poor reality of my country. People are nice and hospitable. The main problem is lack of proper education and poverty. The government is shit. There is no grass-root development on education, health. Public schools lacks basic infrastructure. Children are not taught about hygiene. In most of the public schools, teachers themselves don't have the sense of hygiene. As Indian, we should acknowledge this. Avoiding the problem wont solve the issue. When choosing governments, we never prioritize these issues.

I'm in Japan right now with my wife and not only are the trains the exact opposite of that one but every one of our accommodations in Kyoto, Kobe, Osaka, and Tokyo has been cheaper for a two person room than everywhere you checked. I suggest you opt for comfort on your next trip and go to Japan :) It has a reputation for being expensive while India has a reputation for being cheap, but looking at this, the opposite is true.
As an Indian myself, I wouldn’t travel to places like this. If I am on vacation in India I’d go for better places with finer facilities, else I just wouldn’t go.

I'm in Japan right now with my wife and not only are the trains the exact opposite of that one but every one of our accommodations in Kyoto, Kobe, Osaka, and Tokyo has been cheaper for a two person room than everywhere you checked.
