    I’ve been thinking about that hardboard under the water tank. If it ever gets wet the hardboard will be like a graham cracker in milk. Perhaps look into polystyrene sheet, thin, flexible, durable, heap, and waterproof.

    If you can't do a wire channel, a large piece of Pex hose can flex and curve, and will give serious protection to your wires. Use wire lube to stuff it through and it will go much easier. Know that heat buildup in a conduit can increase wire resistance, so go up a guage or two.

    Hi George, we installed a CRL window with an awning window in the sliding door of our RAM ProMaster 3500. We are having the very same issues you mentioned. We have been in contact with our reseller who is awating response from CRL. In our situation, even after sending video and consulting with the reseller, the clamp ring has not tightened the window up to the van side so the window rattles when driving. We have not yet tested for water tightness.
    TY for you continued awesome video, instructions, and enjoyment watching your van builds and innovations.

    Another beautiful conversion coming together nicely. I've installed many CR Lawrence windows with the metal ring and none of them line up. What I do is clamp the ring all the way around so the holes in the ring line up with the groove in the window as closely as possible. Then I pre-drill the holes in the window, boring out (elongating) the hole in the ring where needed. Good luck!

    I am curious about the water tank, what about going with a tank that is meant to fit over the wheel well? Then there is no bridge framing, it lowers the CG of a lot of weight(8.34lbs/gal= 417 lbs of water) for better handling(less body roll), and it would free up more space under the bed. One other concern, those Isotherm fridge and freezer are available as two separate units that could be mounted side by side keeping the CG lower in the van and putting a light weight cloths closet or pantry storage above the two floor mounted units. Just some ideas I thought of.

    I had the exact same problem with my bunk windows from Flarespace (didn't know they are Lawrence windows). Worse, on one, my rubber gasket had its seam located along the top edge & was not glued together. I had to tear it off and used urethane instead.

    • @HumbleRoad

      The sliding toilet trick requires twice the space of the toilet footprint. It’s not efficient you give up a lot of storage space in the spot where the toilet has to go hide during your shower.

    I got away from that Aluminum.. It weights more then wood. And takes up space..Then I went to high density foam rubber in place of wood sub floor. As my wood was eat up with rot, mold and mildew..Then installed Pergo Flooring 10mm...That fixed that issue.. Then used 3M 600L insulation..

  • @Moosealini
    @Moosealini 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Yeah ...CR Lawrence windows require additional fabrication to fit, I fitted 2 sliders on my van and one of the inner rings needed half an inch shaved off! I also tossed their self-tappers, lined it all up, then drilled and tapped my own holes on the bench. Fitting was then pretty easy and they look and work great, so the design is fine, they just need to introduce some QC at the factory!

    • @HumbleRoad
      @HumbleRoad  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sure, but that kind of modification would void the warranty. As a builder that’s a no-no!

    do you determine the center line based off of multiple measurements along the body as it tapers..or...do you take an average along the length and make that the center? I had an old house a time or two..i could pick "level" or "plumb", but not both.

    I am upfitting my 2012 Roadtrk Sprinter and using 3" c-channel. My plan was to lie them flat, as opposed to on their side like you are doing. Is the way you are doing it stronger or??? I was thinking that I could use the cavity in them as a trough, but curious as to why you put them on the side. Any tips?

    • @HumbleRoad
      @HumbleRoad  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, laying them taller is MUCH stronger. Having said that, unless you plan on very heavy load, go ahead with your trough idea. I have done that myself. Supporting the bed? keep in mind that all the C-channels work together to carry the load. Set them up and sit on the plywood. Make note of the flex and bounce. Should be fine.

    Everything is square to the van deck, but being plumb assumes that the deck is level to begin with.
    If the deck is level, how much does it go out of level when all of the weight is added during the build? The suspension must give a bit.

    Always great design and content.

    • @HumbleRoad
      @HumbleRoad  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No. Reflect fix needs an air gap in order to work the Thinsulate is considered the air gap. Its fibrous composition merely slows the transmission of temperature change once that cold or hot hits the Reflectix it is reflected back up through the Thinsulate laying on the back of our ceiling panel, the reflectors does nothing for the inside of the van, in my opinion…

    I came across this warning about CRL windows recently at one of their resellers: "The CRL VW1033 has had an abnormally large amount of quality issues recently. Nomadic Supply Company recommends the VWD OVR3310 Overlander Camper Van Bunk Sliding Window over CRL VW1033 bunk windows because the VWD OVR3310 Overlander Camper Van Bunk Sliding Window has a better rubber outer seal, has a better rubber main seal, a better screen and a much better warranty. Our Overlander window has a UV coated 3M weather seal, this provides better protection from dry rot and the elements of the standard sponge CRL uses. A thicker rubber trim is utilized on the Overlander offering a cleaner non-wavy appearance and better seal from debris and wind. Overlander features a screen that is inset into the framing of the window this keeps the screen tighter and quieter. The CRL insets on one side then overlaps the frame on 3 sides. On the outside there are two plastic turn tabs that hold the screen to the frame, this will cause rattling on rough roads. Warranty - Overlander offers a 1 Year Warranty, and CRL offers a 30 Day Warranty. Both are 33″ x 10″ Cut-Outs, Both are black frames and Solar Privacy Glass Overlander has a better UV filter at 17% allowable vs 28% allowable. If you are using these windows in our Flarespace Flares then you cannot use the Overlander, but if not, we’d strongly recommend the VWD OVR3310 Overlander Camper Van Bunk Sliding Window."
