Somehow one of your videos showed up in my recommended list and I'm so thankful because I've gone through almost all your videos at this point and can say after a stressful day at work watching one of these really helps me sort of just decompress and put myself back together while you put the pieces back together too
I like the rusty look at the start of the video, it just gives the grinder an old feel to it and it’s like a time machine taking you back to a small coffee shop in Italy grinding coffee beans to make the perfect coffee with malted chocolate around the edges
The fact thst you don't sandblast and take your time with things and just generally don't seem to rush stuff makes your channel so satisfying to me. You do amazing work 😊
Haven't been feeling great these days but I chanced upon your videos and they made me feel a lot better. It's soothing to listen to these sounds and engrossing to watch your progress. You've no idea how much your videos lit up my Tuesday. Thank you so much
I have my grand-grand mother coffee grinder. Body is solid wood and grinder is bronze. I'm still using this to grind coffee just when I need. The best "paint" is the coffee itself. Good job from Italy
nice work! would have chosen different colors but its not like i would have the patience to do something like this. really relaxing to watch. good job!
A few suggestions. Instead of gun blue you could have used hot tin coating (tin melts around 232℃ so steel don't even get red hot). No electro plating process needed. Tin is food safe and durable enough for this application. Tin coating is common on copper pots. As for the moving grinding parts you just have to use it a lot first to let the parts coated in fat from coffee beans. If you don't think that is enough you can heat these and coat it with linseed oil until it smokes that polymerised fat becomes a durable coating like seasoning of the carbon steel / cast iron pans.
Wow! I have watched restoration videos from both Odd Tinkering and My Mechanics and I can honestly say that they are a dynamic duo of the restoration community on TH-cam. Much like how M.A.D. Detailing and The Detail Geek are the dynamic duo of the automotive deep cleaning community on TH-cam.
I was hoping to see you make a cup of coffee at the end, that would've completed the video. Great job by the way! It's very entertaining to watch you work.
A little tip I picked up from another video on removing varnish/ oil/ wax from wood is to use coarse steel wool and methylated spirit. It keeps the patina and shape but removes the old varnish and grime. I'd recommend you try it out, worked wonders for me on an old wooden plane.
new sub here. Really enjoy the format of your videos. The silence, no talking, high quality audio and ambient sounds of the restoration process. Beyond my interest in restoration it also have an awesome ASMR vibe to it. I bet if you tag ASMR on the video you'll get new subs/more views. side note: the burrs looked pretty worn. Did you do anything to sharpen?
Min. 8:13 "Tre Spade" is the brand meaning three swords. They now manufacture all kinds of kitchen grinders, especially for meat. Some private persons still have original coffee grinders for around € 70.-, all blackened.
You can tell from the paint job at the beginning that the entire thing used to be a similar color to the handle but I don't know why you left it like that entirely black except the handle which is bright red
I love your videos man. Really great videos. One tip: you might want to get a stabilizer maybe a Zhiyun suitable for your canon when doing handheld shots. 🙂
R Carrion I read your comment just before he got to putting it on and I thought it would only be on the outside of it and when he put it in the inside I freaked out. You are right gun blue is a acid
Selenous acid? Will do nothing in that quantities that possibly can go to coffee after washing the grinder few times after applying the solution. Or, you can save a little money on buying some selenium-containing vitamins in you local pharmacy.
We’ve had that same exact grinder in our kitchen for at least 40 years. Who knows how long it has been in the family! It has always looked the way it did in the beginning of the video, but seeing this has motivated me to try and clean it. How would you have protected the handle if you hadn’t painted it? Thanks!
Can you please restore my life back to how it should be
Ha ha ha! Me too, please. :-)
ghostcheddar Hey stand in line buddy.
ghostcheddar Just kidding. I hope you are ok. (Hugs)🙂❤️🤟🏻
This hits differently in 2020.
I'm almost 100% certain your degree must be in patience
I 100% agree
It's odd seeing you without the black gloves. What a trip!
I found it funny when you showed that it was 1am because it reminds me of my Finnish friend who's always up at the weirdest hours 😊
I love coffee. Nice grinder, awesome job on it. It’s a lot of work without power tools. Big like.
Thanks buddy! It's also a good excercise to do that with no power tools 😂
Sono italiano e quel pezzo è veramente raro
I am italian and your coffee grinder it is very rare
Si c'è l'ha anche mia nonna per macinare il caffè Ps:sono di Napoli
Thanks for the info I didn't know that. I paid 10€ for it. I assume it was a good deal 😁

Good lord, that sounds delicious
I seriously respect that you didn't completely change the original look of the coffee grinder, but instead built off of what you had. Well done.

2:50 Thank you! ..now I truely know, how it feels to be one of your gadgets, that you're working on. 10/10 I subd.

I love all the noises! Especially with HD headphones on.
THANK YOU for adding notations of how long it sat and dwelled in the vinegar! Many do not and it drives me nuts! (short drive) 😂
To do all of that work without the assistance of power tools, I give major props to you for the patience that you have.
Dat man lives in an another universe. He don't swear making his work O_o
I know! I suspect he is not really Finnish, I haven't heard a single "P*rkele!" in any of his vids
@@JohnThePon I doubt that every Finnish use swear words. He do have Finnish accent though.
The best part of waking up is folgers and gun bluing in your cup! Haha great job!
something oddly satisfying about watching you restore things
Pretty amazing you have the skill and patience to revive these objects that have a ton of history.
I feel like his technique has improved greatly over the course of one year.
Anyone else sad that the white bucket didn't say vinegar
I have my dad's old cast iron coffee grinder... if I could afford to send it to you, I think you're the only person I'd trust with it.
watching videos like these is good therapy : )
This was a true journey into the heart of darkness. I loved every minute
The smell of that vinegar is coming through my monitor.
Mine too. I cleaned a ww2 period harmonica with vinegar and was thinking the exact same thing.

Loved watching this video, a true restoration. Your content is always amazing. I stared my own channel, learning from videos like these.

Great info, thanks for sharing! How would you apply the tin coating uniformly?
Nice final effect. I like oldschool look. Thumb up!
That table needs the restoration first,

Bro this is practically asmr, good video 👏🏻
Nice restoration but I’m surprised it wasn’t tin plated or nickel or even pewter as so many kitchen objects used to be..
Thanks!
Wow, you did an amazing job! I think I am addicted to your videos!
I love to see you restoring these antiques, keep up the great work.
That's a _really_ nice little restoration.
You are my new Bob Ross.
Lovely job, I bet the grinder can tell a few stories.
Love the finish of that gun blue stuff!
Great, I just found one exactly like yours. Will follow the restoration guide!
The Gun Bluing was a REALLY cool idea! Worked out well!
I like your way of filming and editing.

When you started pouring the vinegar in, I flinched. Started to turn my head expecting to get wet. Lol
Love your vids its kinda like asmr but not and i love it plz keep making more

Nice representation with the coffee beans.

You should restore your work bench...
Wow mine is exactly like your!

Gun blue is absolutely not food safe. Great resto though.
R Carrion I read your comment just before he got to putting it on and I thought it would only be on the outside of it and when he put it in the inside I freaked out. You are right gun blue is a acid
I recon it’s safe enough
I don't think he's going to make coffee with it and actually drink it

This makes me want a freshly ground bunch of coffee and to make a nice hot cup of coffee with them.
I have one like this, but in wood, except the gear's system.
From the granmother of my granmother :)
Wait how did he get that shot of him pouring the vinegar into the bucket. That was so cool.
Coffee grinders seem to be a popular restoration choice, I've noticed.
"No power tools was so bad idea," lol
Good restoration bro 👍👍👍👍
Thank you!
