      @Christopher Adams and imagine the energy each of those pushes onto the beach takes out of the whales. It must be exhausting after the first one.

      This is only possible because this particular beach is both steep and covered in round pebbles, so the orcas can free themselves more easily.

    Orcas are exceptionally intelligent, they assess prey and understand how to hunt it. The stranding we see is learned behaviour taught by older members of the pod. Their family units are stronger than other mammals, pods stay together for life. Fights almost never happen in the wild due to the strong family ties.
    Orcas that survive the first few years live longer than captive orcas due to the males not interbreeding with other pod members, they breed with separate pods. Males live about 40-50 years and females live 50-60 years on average in the wild. Captive whales average about 30 years. Some have died in their teens order even before birth according to PETA.

    • @reubencaldwell8494
      @reubencaldwell8494 6 ปีที่แล้ว +44

      Now I never trust PETA as a reliable source for animal welfare, conservation, and knowledge. I can confirm that this is true, orcas and other cetaceans fair much better in the wild than they do in captivity, but actually, the captive lifespan is usually between 17-25yrs.

    The intelligence and finesse of Orca whales is mesmerizing. They are so intelligent, in fact, that the only humans that have been killed by one has been by those held captive in a tank. It's well documented these animals, in the wild, mean us no harm. There are plenty of videos of people interacting with them peacefully in the wild.

    • @theprinceoftides6836
      @theprinceoftides6836 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Truth. I could say they R way more intelligent than us. I think they're elders pass it down to young Orcas not to attack us from their experience in the past with humans. Knowing humans can be cruel, barbaric and vengeful to those animals that attack us.

    Orcas are far more endangered than seals, as seals reproduce very easily and orcas do not. As such, I hope as many seals as possible were caught and consumed by these orcas during the filming of this documentary footage.

      @wantafanta01 That's what you call a diet. You can't force an animal to eat anything that he doesn't know. Animals sticks to their diets. Just like how you can't force a dog to eat a tomato, the same way goes for Orcas or Seals or whatever animal it is.

    It's funny to think that cetaceans began their evolution as fishes (like every other animal),
    then went to the surface and became land mammals,
    then they went back into the ocean a few million years later,
    and now they are beaching themselves to hunt land animals.
    It's like..make up your mind guys. Do you want to live in or out of the water?
