This is what it looks like when you get value for assets while they are at their max value. Deni is on a decreasing deal after a breakout year so teams get years of control on a good deal for a 23 year old. Next year Deni would have notionally had fewer opportunities meaning potential for decreased value. Add that to the Wiz not competing during that contract adds to the reasons to trade him now.
@@departmentofhoopsI doubt he would’ve had fewer opportunities but I could see why you’d think Holmes, Shamet, Brogdon, Davis, and Kuzma would be incentivized to audition more for other teams this year. U know the analytical guys are gonna be all over Corey telling him to attack the basket way more. Sarr, Bagley, and Bilal are probably gonna toss up a ton of ugly looking open 3 pointers. And I bet this would’ve been the first year that Deni was at the top of other teams scouting reports, so he probably gets tougher matchups. Also, a lot of Deni’s usage comes from his defensive rebounding, maybe Sarr’s presence minimizes that a little.
“Low quality gambles” is a stupid, pessimistic way of thinking. Sarr, Carrington, Kispert, Butler, Vuckevic, Kuzma, Tyus, Brogdon, and Bilal are high IQ. Kuzma taking bad shots doesn’t mean he’s low IQ, obviously he knows they’re low percentage shots.

What does Deni would have "had few opportunities" mean?

Grats Matt, you finally got ridden of Deni's fandom 😉. Best of luck, except against the Blazers of-course.
@@ElizabethHaydon wishing him the best! Might have to make them my West Coast team now!
The wizards traded the only high IQ player they had for a bunch of low quality gambles, I've had enough with the wizards
If it's any consolation I don't think you're alone in disliking the trade
