What does the draft tell us about the Wizards team-building plan? Could Matas Buzelis be their guy?

I agree with Jahidi that we want another Bilal type with a lot of upside and versatility, even if the floor is not as high at the moment.

Any names you think would fit that mold?

I heard Rajon Rondo share his thoughts on the role of the traditional PG in today's NBA.
His thoughts were that the in the NBA today, the traditional PG role is dead. Most team who have someone who plays the point but they're also are the highest scorer for the team as well. It's as if they move between the role of PG/SG.
Think Steph, Damien, Trae, the Tyrese's, Ja, Shai, Donovan, Kyrie and Luka.
Rojon said he thought this change in the PG role was purposeful because the NBA wants to see more scoring because high scorers bring viewership.
    Interesting take.

That is interesting, do you have a link to that by chance? Seems like he and Jahadi are aligned on that

they just worked out Stefan Castle, so he’s now part of that list. I’m not a big fan of matas at two, He sounds like a more athletic deni with a little less defense. for me it’s between 4 people at 2 being sarr, castle, clingan, and Zach. I think we need a guy with an elite skill(defense) with offense traits that indicate potential two-way ability. I like these four because they’re the best combination of fit and skillset that matches with our current young group. also, I feel like the best way to look at this draft is a potentially elite defensive draft with a lot of athletes who have offensive upside.

I'm with ya on a lot of this. And glad to see Castle got a workout!

Love the differing opinions👍🏾. Jahadi mentioned that he would select Matas at 2. I have to push back on that. I pray that the front office don’t do that. The Wizards will be even more of a laughing stock as that would likely be considered a major “F” up by most of the NBA landscape 🤷🏾‍♂️. IMO the number 2 pick is simply too high for a player in Matas tier.
Sarr, Risacher, Castle, Clingan are my top 4 choices at 2.
I agree with versatile ballers, however, I would take a one trick pony if it’s a rim protecting big like Clingan or Missi. Jahadi says Clingan is a one trick pony. Yes, but so is Rudy Gobert who is one of the best at what he does. I don’t see a reason why Clingan can’t be the same but bigger with more offensive upside. Throw in Cooper Flagg or Ace Bailey next season now it’s time to add free agents 😉!

For the record, Buzelis is #4 on the Rookie Scale consensus Big Board I always mention. So I can understand being much lower than him on that but it definitely wouldn’t be laughed at. Fair point on Clingan, he'll definitely definitely raise their floor defensively

@@bleavinwizards Yeah, I know some have him at 4. He’s just not in my 4. When I say laughingstock, I want to be clear that I’m not speaking of Matas. I think he’s a promising player. I am speaking of NBA social media, X, ESPN’s, talk show host etc. To them we are already a laughing stock. I hear it every day on TH-cam & X. Stephen A takes digs at the Wiz every opportunity he gets. I don’t believe picking Matas at 2 leaving Sarr or Risacher to other teams would be any different. Maybe that’s just me🤷🏾‍♂️.

There aren't a lot of guards. Tyus won't sign and Shamet will be traded or released (11 milions unguaranteed). We have Poole (with his flaws), Butler that we hope he can develop to be second PG, Bilal and Davis are officially guards but probably SF and Kispert officially SF but can play SG. However it doesn't matter in this draft and they don't need to consider this (just take the best prospects). They can draft guards next year. I hope Deni will be used as PG (partly), and maybe they will get guards in Kuzma trade.
