    They are not overhyped, they are just one of the best ska punk bands

      We are pretty similar on these, Those 2 heavy albums from the early 2000s are incredible

    Joystick! is my new suicide machines. Those guys are really good. “Trials and tribulations” is an awesome song

      Joystick is so rad! Made my Album of the year list last year. Really love Retcon, 7675

    Love this band! They are in my top 5 ska punk bands…up there with rx bandits, five iron frenzy, and less than Jake. This was fun. Thanks

      They are so good! Under-rated in my opinion (Despite Matt thinking the opposite)

    You nailed it with the Flatliners comparison. For years, I tried to find a band to fill that Suicide Machines skacore void and they were it for a few albums.

    • @PunkRockRadar
      @PunkRockRadar  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Those first 4 Flatliners records are so good, the most recent one isn't too bad, but can't compare. Another few bands that do the style well, Random Hand and Joystick (their album last year was awesome)

    • @PunkRockRadar
      @PunkRockRadar  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Both of these more SKA heavy obviously but still that aggressive style w/ upstrokes.

      @@PunkRockRadar Haha dude, I just saw Joystick in Pittsburgh for a Ska Fest my friend puts together. They are fantastic. There were a ton of good bands on the card but they blew everyone away. Had to give them my money and bought a shirt. New Orleans got some good punk bands.

    Seeing them open for Descendents in 96 is still my favorite show of all time! Destruction was only out a few months so I was familiar with the material!

    He must never seen em live. I seen em in Seattle wa at the RKCNDY. They were touring battle hymns!!! What a gig it was they were on FIRE!!! They spent more time 4 feet in the air that night and it sounded just like if they were in the studio!!! I wasnt a huge fan but after that night seeing em live I sure was!!!

    I remember the Suicide Machines self titled came out around the same time as Face To Face's Ignorance Is Bliss, and being so bummed out that these two bands I loved were going too soft for my liking. I now like them both quite a bit.

      I like the self Titled but still can't get behind ignorance is bliss, especially comparing it to F2F self Titled

    Battle Hymns being rushed was a purposeful decision by the band actually, they recorded it as quickly as possible in order to pocket the leftover label money since they were given roughly the same budget as Destruction
    As for self titled and Steal This Record a lot of behind the scenes drama led to why the albums are the way they are, two of the guys just became obsessed with pop music while Jay just wanted to write more punk songs and it got pretty heated later

    • @TolietWater
      @TolietWater 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One last thing sorry lol “Punck” and “Jah” the 5 second songs on Battle Hymns I hold the theory that they were supposed to be there for sequencing purposes so that one side has the “Punck” songs and the other has the “Jah (Ska)” songs but Jay doesn’t care about sequencing so they’re just there

    • @PunkRockRadar
      @PunkRockRadar  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I read some interviews about how it was extremely rushed, It's still a good record by any other band's catalog, you just expect a little more from them after opening their career with such a landmark record. I was looking for more info on their S/T and Steal This Record years (looking for fallout with Hollywood Records as the reason for the title "Steal This Record") but came up empty. Would be a great band to release a memoir one of these days. Thanks for watching!

    • @PunkRockRadar
      @PunkRockRadar  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it's definitely odd, I'm sure there is a story behind it.. For such a rushed record still baffles me that they put out 20+ songs, I think they would have been better served refining 12-14 of them. But like I said still a good album overall

      Thanks so much for watching! I use OBS to record, the tier list and layout is a screen capture for Adobe Illustrator, then the video capture is from a discord video call.

    Oh man I can't believe Matt thinks AAA is better than The Suicide Machines! I respect his opinion but hard disagree. DBD will forever be my S tier record but I think War Profiteering and A Match and Some Gasoline give it a run for it's money. I hold a special place in my nostalgia heart for Battle Hymns but I can't argue that it's a really bloated record that could have cut a ton of tracks. Not sure I'll ever get down with the S/T or Steal This Record but it's worth giving another listen.

    • @PunkRockRadar
      @PunkRockRadar  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, Matt's take about AAA is borderline crazy... I can't get behind it at all. I think AAA and Link 80 are decent bands and have a few great songs, but they don't have 6-7 albums worth of bangers. I heard Battle Hymns around the same time as DBD, so hearing them at the same time definitely was detrimental to BH. Steal this Record was one that I was actively seeking out on release day so that may be skewing my judgement. As always dude, thank you so much for watching and the constant support, it means a lot!!
