I got the green sapphire glass/Black dial Milgauss. It's totally comfortable and the dial size is perfect. It looks so simple and at the same time it pleases your eyes with it's pure beauty. Only death will part us. Thank you for your video.

Love the Z-blue. It has some of the classical elements of Rolex yet with a little bit of a rebellious streak. My next watch.

One aspect that’s not visible in most photos of the Milgauss is that the green crystal can sometimes dominate its appearance: many photos make it appear as though the green is barely visible over the entire crystal. Though the green is most visible around the circumference, and is very pleasing, it’s not always welcomed under some lighting conditions on the face of the watch.

    • @luis911
      @luis911 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thats actually the only gripe that I have with this piece. I own a Black GV that I purchased New a month ago and wish the glass was as clear as my old Omega Planet Ocean. Omega uses IR Coatings on their crystals so the watch face is legible in most lighting conditions.

Interesting. I like the green sapphire look, but think it contrasts horribly with the other colors on the dial. I'd be more interested with that green sapphire on a matte white dial.

I looked at this watch today as my first piece from Rolex so I came to TH-cam to get reviews and feedback. Im an artist (photography), and a technical engineer and this watch spoke to me; as if it was calling me. I was born in the 70’s and I would say I’m a rebel that loves to go against the grain.
I agree with you design is suppose to challenge the norm, which is, in my opinion, the foundation of art and design. I love this watch and it will be my first piece from Rolex. Thanks for the amazing review!

  • @hrabanus
    @hrabanus 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

Very nice! The Milgauss essentially got me into the watch game. The name, the colours, that overall weirdness let me forget that it is a Rolex in the first place. Now, I think it's one of the most interesting watches in any lineup of any brand.

The only rolex i own. I find it exhilarating. With a small dial for the perfect fit look. And the green pop has proved to be a conversation piece more often than not. Although some people dont like the lightening seconds hand, i love it. As said slightly playful and just extraordinary dial overall. The green sapphire is almost a homage to rolex and its green colour itself. I find myself looking at the time more amd more as im obsessed by the look.

    A few things:
    1. Genta didn't design the Ingenieur. It was originally a standard looking affair until it got a new design by Genta in 1976.
    2. A Milgauss does not have a Faraday cage, it has a soft iron shield. This is an important distinction because while a soft iron shield protects the movement from magnetic fields, it grants absolutely NO protection from electrical fields. There has never been a magnetic field strong enough to kill someone on Earth but, if you were strick by lightning, you would have a better chance of surviving than the Milgauss on your wrist.

👍’s up for your review. In the last 4 years I’ve focused on the ‘hard to get’ current Rolex steel Professional models. I’ve always liked the Milgauss white dial and viewed many TH-cam reviews/monitored the pre-owned market looking for the right example to add to my collection. I’ve just purchased a 2008 unworn, stickered, box/papers+original receipt that was kept in a safe by the original purchaser - an absolute beauty for🇬🇧£8,200🤩

This is a great looking Rolex-love everything about it: the rectangular indices, the pops of color on the sapphire and dial, that kick-ass lightning bolt sweeping around the face; but the best thing about the watch is what it’s missing: a nausea-inducing Mercedes hood ornament. Great video!

I own the Z-Blue. I have had it two years this month. Blue is my favourite colour (matches my eyes), and it had been on my radar; though when I began seriously shopping for my first Rolex, I thought I was going to get myself a classic Datejust in 36mm. After having worn a 42mm Speedmaster for some years though, it seemed minuscule by comparison when trying them in the boutique, and there was something a little off about the 41mm variants
The modern Submariner was out. Its reinforced, modern lugs destroyed its former symmetry, and going after a vintage piece with its tinny bracelet and clasp would probably have not only cost more, but would have felt a compromise -- to say nothing of the risks involved. So no, for my first Rolex my eye gravitated towards the simplicity of the Milgauss line.
Any why not? It's the ideal size at 40mm. It lacks bulky crown guards and is subtle on the wrist. And what's more, its fit and finish (and price) puts it a cut above the plane Jane Oyster Perpetual, Air King, and dare I say, Explorer.
I had my choice of the white, black and blue Milgauss models then, and I tried them all. I ruled the white out instantly. It was bland. The "black," so-called, combined with the green crystal, well...against my pale skin, the colour was simply "incorrect." In combination, it looked "olive," and my ancestry is not of the Mediterranean.
No, for me it was the Z-Blue. It was "correct."
I had no idea that people were so opinionated about this model until after purchasing, but that doesn't bother me. I like the people who praise my watch, and I enjoy the people who dislike it also. I don't say that because I purchased it as an "investment piece" or anything; I simply purchased the watch that was perfect for me, and in twenty years' time when it's been long-since-discontinued, I am very confident that the detractors will have changed their tune. I know I chose well.
A few months ago I was in that same Rolex boutique, just having a look around. The salesman remembered me and said, "You know, that young guy back there who's just leaving was looking for your exact watch! The Z-Blue! I had to say sorry, but we haven't seen that in the shop for oh, close to a year now."

When I am comparing Rolex watches I don't really like most of the standard, less expensive (comparatively) ones as they are kinda blah, and the ones I do love are generally too pricey for me like the Hulk and the Daytone. The Z-blue is an absolutely gorgeous watch to me, not just for Rolex but for any brand. And it's price currently doesn't make it a pipe dream to me, but I do hope to get one before prices get too crazy

The Z-Blue version needs strong natural sunlight to come fully to life. Much less than the blue and the orange, the orange being much less noticeable in real life, is the interplay of the green crystal and the mesmerising blue dial. Aqua marine reminiscent of an Australian coast on a hot Summers day. The play of light from the blue sunray dial with the green glinting as you angle the dial is really striking and holds your attention. So much so you never seem to notice the time, much less the orange accents. This dial can produce the entire blue colour palette with ambient light through to strong sunlight in a way no other blue dial can. The green is the same hue as the wonderful Rolex corporate glass that you see in AD boutiques. It’s very much an assault on the senses but in a good way, very much the antithesis of the sober black and brushed steel sub, so much so they seem from different manufacturers. One flies under the radar, the other over the rainbow.

Kind sir, thank you very much for saving me 10 min ... No pun intended ..... 😎
Thank you very much for your review. I only just discovered the Milgauss yesterday and immediately fell in love with it.
Even after recovering from the price shock (and those where only the second hand prices) i still fell in love with it.
I love the black dial with the green Safire, but it was the blue dial with the green Safire, that pulled me in.
I then thought, if i was able to buy the blue face, will i still adore it years down the line ? I was afraid that i might get bored with it.
However, after your review and feelings on the blue with green Safire, my worries immediately turned into excitement.
It really is a very beautiful watch and most certainly is something different, and i like different.
I really do not like to have something (or want something) that is a diamond dozen. But, as with all truly unique items, it does come with a serious price tag, which puts me again in the connoisseur group.
    Thank you again.

I would buy 3 Black dial/Green crystal(1 to invest in the safe, 1 to wear weekly & 1 to gift to my best friend). I would also buy 1 blue dial as the colors are so absolutely ridiculous they reach the point of high art. I would wear the blue one every week.

I agree. Owning many “hot” Rolex models over the years, I have found recent Rolex designs too safe and almost boring. Their movements really have not advanced with the competition. There really is nothing that interesting about the Rolex design that you haven’t seen 30 years ago. Its becomes a “if you’ve seen one Rolex you’ve seen them all” to a certain extent. Interesting to the novice but boring to the enthusiast. Rolex is playing it safe simply because of the new Rolex buyer doesn’t really know what they want or even what watch to buy. All they seem to be interested in is what other people think and what watch will hold the most value. I hate to say this but I think I might have outgrown Rolex and had to move on to other brands since Rolex primarily is attracting novice buyers these day and moved away from a enthusiast brand.

I like the uniqueness of it, especially the seconds hand. This is my 3rd choice behind a Subby or GMT.

I just recieved my z blue. And I can help but think that the dial was inspired from looking up. Blue for the sky, white for the clouds, and a lightning bolt!

The milgauss dial colour is the most beautiful rolex ever design.🤩

The beauty of the Rolex Milgauss is its simplicity. It has a Spartan look to it and with its Faraday Cage movement reminds me of an Russian AK-47? A machine gun that can be a rifle. And is virtually indestructible.

I’ve had my Black dialed GV Milgauss for 5 years. It’s been a 24/7 wearer, in the sea, the pool, the pub, the beach, shops, towns. It’s undercover and never draws attention. Underrated and it’s battered but looks better for it. My Seiko Save the Ocean 🌊 gets noticed and comments. Not the Milgauss 👍🏻

I detested the current blue Milgauss when I first saw it.
Now, after considering it more deeply, I absolutely love it. I would, if times were a little less uncertain, very much consider spending the RRP on one of those. Something I wouldn't say about most Rolex.

The Milgauss is actually the only Rolex I could ever imagine myself owning (probably with the blue dial, which I think is beautiful).
