2024: The Year of the "Mixed Bag"? From Average to Abysmal and from Great and Exquisite, this year has had them all! Surprisingly it's be a fantastic year for Chronographs (quite a change of pace compared to the usual Sports / GMT's / Divers) What watch of 2024 would you choose given all the options? Have a superb Christmas break everyone! 🥃
Two Watches really captured my attention: - The White Dial Omega Speedmaster Professional - The Tudor FXD GMT, Tudor knocked it out of the park with this one. Great video, thank you for the work that you do bringing us this content.
Another well researched and outstanding presentation. Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!! Thank you again for your superb work.
Ah Doc, thank you! If all works out I should have another video up on the channel before the end of the year (an SOTC of some kind 😉) BUT have a fantastic Christmas and New Year (if we don’t see each other until then) 🥃
In the last few days I’ve watched 5 TH-cam videos about the “Best 2024 Watches”, and this is my favourite by far. I guess we have a similar taste. Happy holidays to you and thank you for your work! Cheers
Thank you for this Molloy! think it must mean we're a bit off the beaten track with our ideal choices 😉 Really appreciate it brother and have a superb holiday period! 🥃
Finally got to see the FOIS in the metal in Cologne last weekend and loved it as much as I thought I would. I’m more about the Pro case and handset but that soleil dial on the FOIS just sells it for me.
Doesn’t get more stealth than that, right? I’ve had my eye on one particular Breguet over the year… not that I could afford it BUT just incredible 😮💨🥃
And of course, as always, I miss some other standout pieces while making these videos 😆 But hey, always enjoy the oddities more than anything else. I appreciate it brother, thank you 🥃
I would say 2024 was a good year for the beginning of the end of the flippers. Hopefully also the last year of integrated bracelet watches being the hot sh!t. Great video brother 😊👍🏽
Once again you’ve been a standout for all the right reasons. Kind of been a weird year for watches. ALS, JLC , Zenith ..love them all. Rolex was napping and Patek left me confused. ..that long form saturday would be fun I think. But again great job and Merry Christmas
Great list as always!! So many releases I loved this year, but it’s hard for me to go past the new FOIS. I own 2 Omegas, 2014 Seamaster 300 heritage and 2017 Railmaster 40mm black dial…. The FOIS might just be the speedy I need to make my own modern (vintage inspired) trilogy….
I’ve been debating adding one of those FOIS’ myself. But then looking at my Trilogy Seamaster, 765 AVI and El Primero… man, they all have some much character in themselves. Wouldn’t feel like it’s “adding” anything, y’know? But in your case? A Speedmaster would make the trio Joao! 🔥
It was quite a year for watches. If I'd choose a watch for this year, it would be the ether the AP Remaster 02, or the echo/neutra rivanera. I'm just a sucker for art deco rectangular watches. Enjoy the holidays!
Breguet, Lange and Omega have been killing it with the Beautiful looking Black dials latley.Just WOW! and I agree that AP looks too good to be true and its my favorite out of all the other watches on this list. Its so modern and futuristic looking and it stands out as being totally different than any other watch case shape/design that I've ever seen in my life.Pure Art Work 💯
GP 49Ti looks great, cant wait to try it on. Also the military type twenty have to wait for the price to come down on secondary market as its kind of plain looking tool watch....
That GP is such a killer looking piece... and good call on waiting out those Breguets. They're still trying to pump them out at retail but the watches aren't going far 😉
So Longines did a stealth release just a couple days ago on the Ultra-Chron in Carbon and titanium and that looks amazing. I like your list and agree with most… I would add the IWC eternal calendar as well. That’s a special watch. Great list!
Haven’t even seen this headline! I swear the Longines list didn’t arrive at my feet this year… I’ve got to befriend someone in the PR team to get these early bird launch details! Thank you for sharing brother (I’m going to check out the Ultra-Chron right now 🔥)
The Piaget might of looked less gaudy in grey gold. They’ll likely release such a version sometime down the line I reckon. As for my favorites out of what you chose here? There are two…the white dialed Moonwatch and the Angelus 😁👍
I’m so glad there’s someone else out there in the world who likes the Angelus 😉 Some crazy odd pieces launched this year for us to settle on a monopusher / field watch 🔥
Dear Mr IDGuy, as always your selection is (mostly😂) up my alley. That AP ReMaster thingy oh dear, dear oh dear😅. I tried on a Carbon Longines yesterday was pretty kewl. 2025 I wish you all the very best and hope amazing things come your way. Merry Christmas Mr IDGuy.
Thank you so much Dave AND I never even heard or saw the carbon Longines! I swear the headlines haven’t even hit me (maybe the Google algorithms are against me 😆) Have a brilliant Christmas sir! I’m sure there will be another video from me before the new year ;)
@ oh look forward to it if so mate. Yep there is a new release coming soon from Longines, Ultra Chron, quite nice and subdued, similar to Tudor 925 dial/bezel colour. Aluminium bezel insert. Very nice carbon layout, titanium case back screwed titanium housing (Not carbon case) mesh weave poly strap of some sort. I like🤷♂️
A great selection of nice picks here Boet. The AP Remaster 02 split a lot of opinions but, I’m with you, I love it. Same with the Piaget Polo 79, when I saw it on display at W&W it looked gorgeous. The Cartier Monopusher Tortue was a classic revived. Parmigiani’s Toric line was very nice. The Zenith diver too, some may not get the retro design but, it’s really cool. Voutilainens 20th anniversary is exquisite. The Chopard Quattro Spirit 25 (black dial) was one of my favourites at W&W along with NOMOS’s brilliant 175th anniversary edition of 31 colours of the Tangente Date 38, the Ferdinand Berthoud FB RES was amazing with the way it can be customised both dial and case wise, the Czapek Goutte D’eau looked stunning (like someone had thrown a pebble into the dial with the ripple effect), Bernhard Lederer’s 3 Times Observatory Chronometer was a masterpiece, as for Rolex their Ombré dial Day Dates were their best Watches this year, it was also nice to see stone dials making a comeback from brands like Baltic, Dennison and others. There have been a lot of dogs this year in my opinion. The Pink Tudor Chronograph was one of those. Patek Dress Watches with Denim style straps, The Gold Deep Sea and the Gold Tudor Black Bay 58, The Credor Locomotive (uuugghhh!), TOO many Royal Oak collaboration dogs to mention, Same with too many Rainbow dialled and jewelled Watches (that fad needs to be put to bed!!), the MAD1 ‘Time to Love’ (that looked like the vintage game ‘Simon’), the Seamaster Regatta Americas Cup, I could go on about the terrible Watch releases. Great round up here Boet. Loved hearing your choice of picks. Have a wonderful Christmas 🎄 yourself. Hopefully I’ll speak to you beforehand ✊
Now that would make for a Very impressive collection in total. Many thanks for all that you have given & shared with the community this year 👏👏 Wishing you and yours all the very best for Christmas and the New Year P.s where is the SotC vid ? ? ?
Thanks a ton Ian 😉 Quite a mixed bag of pieces, right? And hopefully I’ll have another video on the channel before the end of the year but if not, the same to you sir! I hope you have a fantastic Christmas and New Year! (the SOTC should be on the channel next 😉🥃)
Phew, gem of a piece… of course I drool over the 3705 when I can. Something about iconic chronographs man, can’t beat them! And the fact that yours is freshly serviced again 🔥 Capping off your head with a new watch 😉
@@ID-Guy Yes, I'm pretty much in love, after years of thinking that old watches are not for me and buying modern IWC Pilot Chronos. The 3705 would of course be something, but apart from the price, for me it would be too rare to really use it.
My picks from your list would be the Tag Heuer Dato Nine, but I hope for a dateless version with small seconds at six, Cartier Tortue Monopusher but in white gold and the Omega Speedmaster FOIS (killer!). Thank you for your profoundly thoughts on watches in 2024, looking forward to 2025!
Happy Holidays. Really love your content. I couldn't pick one, but two really stood out, the Aqua Terra Black, though the 41 fit better on me than the 38 and the FXD GMT. Looking forward to a great 2025. Hoping for an updated Pelagos as well.
JT y’legend! Such a mixed bag of releases this year from brands but man… some awesome pieces fell in outta nowhere! Have an excellent Christmas brother (if all falls into place I should have an SOTC before the end of the year) 😉🥃
I'll take the platinum 1908 please. Interesting that none of them seem to come to market. Either no one wants to sell them or no one even bought them in the first place. It seemed to be really well recieved at launch and then not a word spoke of it since. Platinum case with a Guilloché dial and a see through case back. What a stunning watch. That Zenith is pretty sweet too.
Yes. Have to wonder if it’s made to order for longtime customers only. I like some of the old Cellini’s more - but platinum, ice blue and guilloche is an impressive combination.
@@ID-Guy Me too, but a cat person as well and they eat fancier food :) Just impulse-bought a Timex 34 Marlin and I don't care if it has a crappy movement that thing is gorgeous, the best $150 I've ever spent. Yes, I'd love a Brequet or a vintage Patek, but as it turns out - all is not grim at the bottom end of the market.
Another fantastic video, but I think that the L.U.Chopard Forest Green Sector Dial deserved an honourable mention as one of the great relesses of 2024.
The reverso chrono in its ultimate dressy chrononess would be my choice. Also the zenith re-issues are just awesome. Longines ultra-chron in carbon would also maybe make my list.
Excellent presentation as usual! I’d go for the Zenith CO Triple Calendar, the JLC Duometre (an epic piece challenging FP Journe in my opinion) and I’d struggle between the FXD GMT and the Omega Seamaster diver no date. I think the FOIS would be very hard to resist as well. Honourable mention to the Paris Olympic release from Omega… an elegant execution!
I would be happy with any one of these watches in this video but if I could choose only one it would be the Reverso chronograph, classic design on one face and a wonderful chronograph on the flip. I was going to say it's been a slow year for me for new watches but as of an hour ago I have another Casio on the way. I can appreciate our wonderful mechanical marvels as well as the digital cousins. It's still been a slow year for new purchases for me though and that has given me more time to appreciate the watches I have. I wish you and yours a great winter break and a top new year. Take great care.
A great review to round off your year, Sir. There are a few lovely watches therein, alongside many meh designs and a few real stinkers. I would choose the FOiS G2, were it not for the sunray dial, the dodgy lume colour and the pushers, which look big and clumsy compared with those on the original FOiS, which I have. That watch goes out of its way to avoid chasing authenticity and, for me, succeeds for that reason. On a (correct to Wally Schirra’s CK 2998) JB/Forstner Komfit mesh bracelet, it looks the business as well as being accurate, light, clear, scratch-resistant in daily wear, and comfortable. Have a great Christmas - see you in 2025.
The 41mm black lacquer is the best of the 3 size releases. The 8900 is a better movement and the case size has a better look w/the polish, on the wrist. One of my favorites in the current rotation.
I'm a watch newb and I've spent nearly $16k on Omega watches in the last 60 days, its like a fever. I love the products that Omega put out and its reassuring to hear experts rave about the line. Fortunately, it was a decent year in sales for me in 2024 but if the tariffs increase I may not be able to keep the watches that I now own. Wishing the best for everyone in the new year!
Some marvellous watch releases this year..JLC reverso would be my choice..almost worth the inflated retail price..👌 Merry Christmas to one and all.. 🌲🥂
Thank you bru! I hope you have an excellent Christmas with your family (and enjoy the stinking heat! Can't tell you how much I miss it on the other side of the world 🥃)
@IDGuy So have your parsonal opinions on the Lange 1 changed a bit? I remember you saying that you appreciate it from a design perspective but that it wouldn't be your choice for your own collection. Love the design forward perspective, still a unique and valuable outlook on watches on TH-cam, I would say. 👍🏻
Nice and fair. And a little different. I’d love to get your take on the ZM11 from Leica. My standout of the year was that asymmetric AP. And I loved the angelus and the titanium laureato. Oh god and that JLC Reverso dripping in gold. Screw it and the all gold Piaget why not
Great eye brother 😉 I happened on this 0-28VS the other week and couldn’t say no… far less “glammed” compared to the Modern Deluxe but wow… hard to put into words how great these small bodies are. It’s 10 years old, been very well looked after and has opened up beautifully. Fat, fat V neck, nearly 2 inch wide fretboard 😆 Scalloped bracing. Sustains and overtones for a lifetime…First thing I did was swap the plastic pins for bone (always makes a monster difference) The Rosewood body instead of the usual Mahogany is just unreal with such a small scale model. Their original “concert”… Best part of all, found this 0-28 for less than half the price of a new Modern Deluxe, could not say no ;) And I love the M-36 & J-40, some of the most under-appreciated models in their lineup! Stunning!! Guitars man, gifts that keep on giving! 🥃
@ wow that sounds like a resonant instrument at that width of a fretboard, classical guitar territory. I bet it does sound kind of like classical guitar. I am looking to get one guitar of that style. Like being acoustic but with more of a classical guitar character. I’ve been a lot into Al DiMeola lately (not that I am anywhere near that level) but I don’t want to get an Ovation, neither I have money for his signature Felipe Conde. Yes, the M-36 is Martin’s best kept secret IMHO. It is heavily based on the M-38 model (same guitar without the bling) which was designed in consultation with Tom Paxton as an instrument designed expressly for amplified stage performance, whether miked or equipped with a pickup and plugged in. Now the M-36 that followed was partly the result of Steve Goodman's request for a guitar with the 38's tone, projection and playability but without the bling, more of a working man's stage guitar. And it has been a favorite for Nashville session recording artists for decades.
It’s something that’s taken ahold of me over the last 2ish years… but man, 2024 was really defined by so many great Chrono’s. And here I realise that I had 2 chronographs in the video with me this week 😆🥃
Lots of interesting watches. My pick would be the Lange 1 or that dressy Breguet... stunners.... man i found a watch that's overtaken the DJ36 as my grail ... it's the 14060m sub.... then in second place IWC mark xv, and then a white dial OP36.... what do you think?
Great choices. I got mine - the BB 58 GMT Coke. Beautiful mixture of old and new. I hope you’re right about 2025 but I have my doubts. With the CHN and EU economies struggling I could see brands holding back on major releases.
I used to admire the Speedmaster Professional but truth be told. I'm just soo sick of the Speedmaster and all it's variations. There's nothing left that makes that watch special. Its just way too over done
The best releases? Size - we've being seeing more of the smaller watches come through this year 36 , 37 & 38mm size (and the past couple of years in general) . This has been great for the lovers of traditional watch sizes and for those of us of smaller wrists 6.5 inches and under. But with the odd size (eg 37mm in particular) brings about the odd problem the 19mm lug width - a rare width back in the day, but we are seeing it more often. Thus finding straps has been a challenge but we are seeing more after market strap makers making in this 19mm width! But alas the next problem with straps is length - not everybody needs a strap the length of route 66 ! How many of us (especially us small wristed people) found a strap but it was too long - all of us! As we see the watch market soften - perhaps the humble strap and its size comes to the fore in dressing up your watch. A case in point - out of all the companies in the world from cheap knock offs to established brands who make "Tropic" straps - how many make a short length tropic at under a 190mm (total length) - 1 just one brand in the hole world that makes a classic tropic strap in short length - uncle seiko 65x115mm - we need more strap brands to broaden their offerings, especially in the rubber, sailcloth, nato, Perlon (interesting only 1 company make a 19mm Perlon) - There is opportunity out there strap makers it's time for you to really shine !
It looks like we’ve reached that close of the ‘Rona creative block (hopefully) - should be quite interesting seeing what 2025 gives us… here’s hoping many more avant garde pieces 🥃
Mate, Slagging off Rolex and praising Zenith is not the way. The grey black GMT master on a jubilee bracelet is more interesting and has more character than anything Zenith offers.
No doubt some of the releases were verrry yawn inducing… I had to spend quite a bit of time finding “the best” over last week. Here’s hoping 2025 kicks off with a bit more excitement 🥃
@@lonewolfemcquade8133 Recent Speedie release galore aside, what really sabotaged the legacy and brand perception was the MoonSwatch and its “distribution”.
I don't get the excitement of the FOIS reissue. I prefer the look of the classic moon watch, (hersalite, hand winding, solid caseback), which I think is a mid-century classic. I don't think the dauphine hands fight the design at all.
Some wild takes. Longines killed it this year. It was an absolute banner year from them and brought them to the modern day. The new Conquest, new Zulu and Zulu, Ti, the Heritage models, etc. Omega just added a few different. Like whoopie. No new technology, no innovation. I couldn’t disagree more with almost everything in this video.

Except for that date placement! Once again their date placements ruined what was an otherwise magnificent piece
The white speedy tried it at the Omega Boutique and easily beats every other Omega in many things i.e. the bracelet, how it wears etc
Good eye dude. Always a good eye.
And of course, as always, I miss some other standout pieces while making these videos 😆 But hey, always enjoy the oddities more than anything else. I appreciate it brother, thank you 🥃
FXD GMT got my money.

Hindsight, I should’ve included the Perpetual Portuguese (mentioned it in my Q1 - Q2 video) and it somehow slipped the script 😆🥃
@ the variety of watches you cover and we like made it slipped 😂 believe me
Here is hoping for less dial text in 2025
Love your work brother. Keep it up
I would be happy with any one of these watches in this video but if I could choose only one it would be the Reverso chronograph, classic design on one face and a wonderful chronograph on the flip.
Your commentary and insight is very well delivered and from my end very well received. Thanks so much for your expert analysis and passion.
The omega aqua terra turquoise looks stunning
New ID Guy, I hit like.
Have a great Christmas - see you in 2025.
a GREAT video. Happy to say I have 3 of your picks.
JLC, two years in a row, wow. Imagine having a 1-2 punch of Reverso Chrono and Duometre… un-freaking-real 🔥 Have a Merry Christmas Giovan!
🎉Festive Wishes to all… from South Africa 🎊
Thank you bru! I hope you have an excellent Christmas with your family (and enjoy the stinking heat! Can't tell you how much I miss it on the other side of the world 🥃)
@ Thanks Bru…. a Merry Christmas to you and the entire family… ahh.. what can I say…the days are Hot and the nights are rainy… she is Beautiful
Very interesting choice of watches, thank you again for sharing your thoughts. Happy Chanukah and happy Christmas to you and your family. 🙏🇮🇱🇮🇱
Great choices
Nice and fair.
And a little different.
I’d love to get your take on the ZM11 from Leica.
My standout of the year was that asymmetric AP. And I loved the angelus and the titanium laureato. Oh god and that JLC Reverso dripping in gold. Screw it and the all gold Piaget why not
Wow that JLC really wants me to buy it 😂
That Pink Gold Reverso Chrono? Phew… it’s unfairly good 🔥
Do we get a wrist check? The Red is fantastic 🤩
I would chose rose gold Reverso chrono or the platinum Breguet with the back enamel dial.
Of those you listed I'd go for the ALS in Honey Gold. But I'd probably go for the Vacheron Constantin Overseas in gold with green dial
Love the guitar! Is that a Martin Modern Deluxe? If yes how does it sound/plays?
Note: I have an M36 and I love it.
Their original “concert”…
Best part of all, found this 0-28 for less than half the price of a new Modern Deluxe, could not say no ;)
And I love the M-36 & J-40, some of the most under-appreciated models in their lineup!
So many great watches but it's the Lange 1 for me!
Hi, Mr Guy! 👋
Always a pleasure seeing you m’boy! I hope you have an excellent Christmas (can’t believe the years almost over) 🥃
Something tells me IDGuy likes chronographs
It’s something that’s taken ahold of me over the last 2ish years… but man, 2024 was really defined by so many great Chrono’s. And here I realise that I had 2 chronographs in the video with me this week 😆🥃
Blue Ingenieur for me please 🙏
I really like the new PF'.
Did you see the collective horology x zenith release? Very monochrome. Also ressence 9 and Toledano and Chang. And berneron. Diamonds in the rough.
Surprised that the Piaget Warhol remake or the Cartier Rewind didn't get a look in
Great choices. I got mine - the BB 58 GMT Coke. Beautiful mixture of old and new.
I hope you’re right about 2025 but I have my doubts. With the CHN and EU economies struggling I could see brands holding back on major releases.
Laurenetje says “ Hi sweetie … lekker vid “
It's "tjie" if you want to be really cute, unlikely she'd say that though. She's plastered op die strand, two bottles of Sauvignon Blanc deep by now 😉
@@ID-Guy;)
Out of all the watches mentioned, my favourite release was the 2° gen. FOIS.
I used to admire the Speedmaster Professional but truth be told. I'm just soo sick of the Speedmaster and all it's variations. There's nothing left that makes that watch special. Its just way too over done
The bean counters at Swatch Group have obviously decided to milk every last drop. Their entire catalog is just so bloated.
White Speedy, Isotope Mercury Shadow, and Czapek Promenade Goutte D'eau.
Would you rather have the latest moonwatch 3861 or the fois?
Tried the Omega FOiS on my wrist and it didn’t catch me.
Instead of the AP, I would get a Möels!
In my opinion the longines pilot majetek titanium would have deservex to be in this list...
Polo completely missed an opportunity. They made a stunning watch and priced it way too high.
Rolex no longer appeal. Sold 3
Just a “2000” my Sea Dweller left.
2024 seems like a lock down year when the designers stayed home.
It looks like we’ve reached that close of the ‘Rona creative block (hopefully) - should be quite interesting seeing what 2025 gives us… here’s hoping many more avant garde pieces 🥃
By turning a luxury experience into a case of imposter syndrome, Rolex have shat in their nest.
I think the micro brands had some good releases, too bad they don’t do too well on TH-cam :(
Mate,
Slagging off Rolex and praising Zenith is not the way.
The grey black GMT master on a jubilee bracelet is more interesting and has more character than anything Zenith offers.
FXD GMT
2024 releases were horrid. Some of these makers should close doors - it's painful “to watch”.
No doubt some of the releases were verrry yawn inducing… I had to spend quite a bit of time finding “the best” over last week. Here’s hoping 2025 kicks off with a bit more excitement 🥃
@@ID-Guy True. It’s the best of the worst! P.S. Happy upcoming 2025 to you and channel fans!
I'm in total agreement I don't even know how anyone even gets excited over Speedmasters anymore. Just extremely sick of the Speedmaster Professional.
@@lonewolfemcquade8133 Recent Speedie release galore aside, what really sabotaged the legacy and brand perception was the MoonSwatch and its “distribution”.
Omega FOiS
voutilainen > all
The Black RexRex wins if $$ is not a consideration
The Tudors seem out place on this list of interesting and impressive watches.
I will not buy a watch without a Tfit
😊👍
$$$$$
Some very verrry pricey pieces in this list, no doubt 😮💨
@@ID-Guy my PAULIN modul D Quartz came today. my salmon orient bambino is on the way.
First
Great seeing you at the front of the line as always John 😉 Have an excellent Christmas sir!
I don't get the excitement of the FOIS reissue. I prefer the look of the classic moon watch, (hersalite, hand winding, solid caseback), which I think is a mid-century classic. I don't think the dauphine hands fight the design at all.
Rolex is going backwards.
No to skeleton hands!
