    Everything you mentioned about this watch, making it "the worst," is exactly what i feel makes it great. Rolex rarely deviates from their tried and true formula and when they do it's a breath of fresh air. They are always so serious with their designs and seeing something a bit different from them is what makes this a true collectors piece in my opinion. If i had the financial means, i'd buy one right now.

    This is my favorite Rolex. Bravo for being different, for having the balls to juxtapose fun with stodginess. That is exactly what will make this watch an all-time classic. A tinted crystal and lightning bolt hand. Come on. How cool is that? How daring and beautiful. I applaud this one.

    • @johnnyennis9864
      @johnnyennis9864 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yeah, I think he just hates the look of this watch, and can't seem to justify the cost based on his own experience and reviews. I know very little about luxury watches, and have never experienced one. I simply enjoy learning about movements, and the associated brands, as I hope to one day own a modestly priced automatic that fits not only my budget, but suits my appreciation for mechanical and aesthetic design. I'd like to know as much going in as I can before taking the plunge. The first time I saw this watch I thought it was beautiful. I like the colour scheme, and the green glass. Some may say that's a sign of my lack of experience/knowledge. Still, I appreciate the visual reference to the origin piece, and the original purpose of the 6541. It offers a slight variation to available Oyster aesthetics. Is it worth the price jump? I'm not sure. Is it the worst watch? Heck no!
      I'm typically not a fan of Rolex watches (not that I could ever afford one), but for some reason I enjoy the look of this model.

    Not that I'll likely ever have the funds for one, but the Milgauss is literally the only Rolex watch I'd ever actually want to own. The magnetic shielding, the story behind it's design, and not to mention the crystal is one of my favorite colors, and this watch just looks cool to me.

      The watch design was done by breaking Rolex’s own “rules” of elegant and sober design, so to speak. In this, it’s the worst of its own kind. It does not follow a straight line - it breaks it! No such a thing can be named “better” or even “good”. Than, it’s “the worst”.
      But than, that’s precisely the point. Sometimes, what our emotional guts want is to see the line or “perfection” broken!
      That’s the appeal of this Ugly watch - it’s anarchists/revolutionary statement of “I don’t care” - as an orange Lightning bolt right there in YOUR face!

    The light show this thing puts on is just amazing.
    If it's not the other worldly edge lighting effects of the crystal, then it's the optically variable sunburst Z-Blue dial, or it's the lume, or it is a combination of those elements.

    I have this watch. I love this watch.
    I saw it in the case at the Rolex boutique and immediately asked to see it. They had ordered it for someone who bought a different watch while on a cruise...so they put it on display. It had been there less than an hour when I saw it. While I was looking at it, some other guy walked in, saw it and wanted to see it. The salesperson told him that I was looking at it and he was welcome to look at it after I was finished. I took my time. I then told the salesperson I would take it. He went to retrieve the box and the other customer complained that he didn’t get to see it. The salesperson said, “That watch doesn’t belong to this Botique anymore. That watch belongs to this gentleman. If he says you can look at it, you can; but that is his choice now, not ours.”
    The guy, who had actually been quite demanding and rude and had been in my personal space, hovering over my shoulder, just off my right elbow the entire time, turned to me and asked if he could look at it and try it on.
    Nope.
    And I was in the process of moving, so I had the Botique box it up right there and then mail the watch to me at my new address a couple of weeks later, rather than wear it out. And if I’m not even wearing my brand new Milgauss, there’s no chance in the world I was letting some rude stranger, who doesn’t understand personal space, wear it even for a second.
    I love this watch. I was considering getting one with a black dial, as I think the orange lightning bolt would ‘pop’ on the black dial. But the blue looks great and I even have some shirts that match the color scheme. Love this watch!

    This was my first ever rolex and the first watch over 1000 euros I ever bought. Call me a weirdo but this is still my favorite and brings me so much joy every time I see it. It plays witch light and shifts colours so much that it's like wearing a different watch each time the lighting changes. It can be a bit of a hazard in traffic though, since I can easily get mesmerized by its beauty while driving. First rolex and the only one guaranteed never to leave my possession.

    It’s for physicists who deal with high magnetic fields hence the shielding. Leaded radiation shielding glass can have a green hue, so suspect that drove that decision. But the steel shielding can easily saturate and the glass isn’t leaded, so a fail on both. However, having built 2 lightning test facilities to keep everyone flying in aeroplanes safe, I do rather like the second hand.

    And in the real world...
    ...the Z-Blue Milgauss shocks because it is the opposite of the garish but loveable design exercise that the YT videos would have you expect.
    The Z-Blue Milgauss shocks because:
    - it is a phenomenally subtle and sophisticated design that presents its extreme sophistication and subtly radically differently in bright and low light conditions
    - the orange coloured lightening second hand is in fact barely noticeable
    - the dial goes near black in low light and becomes the palest of ice blue in bright light, with a hint of denim colour.
    - if the light is behind the green crystal, the green crystal presents an super bright and purest green edge lighting effect that is just elegant and stunning
    - the entire colour scheme us perfectly balanced according to colour theory - its achingly beautiful
    - despite its elegance, beauty, and sophistication, this watch can be read as a pedigree purpose built Professional Rolex from the moon. This is built like a Bugatti tank, because of its mission and DNA.

I bought an Apple watch a bit ago and that lasted about a year before I abandoned new tech for old tech and my Milgauss was back on my wrist. As others have noted, the commentary you made is exactly why this watch is so fantastic. Yes, it's very odd for a Rolex. Yes, it's a weird mix of colors. Yes, it's got no real practical advantage over an Oyster Perpetual (I don't plan on wearing this near an MRI machine). So is it the worst watch ever? Not on this wrist it isn't.

    Well this is the first video I've watched where I have read nearly all the comments before watching the actual video. I was expecting a horror show. But it wasn't. As always it's a well thought out, beautifully presented video. Sadly it would seem far too many people have taken this literally. The whole video is to convey the message that there is no worst watch ever. The worst watch ever will be one, objectively, doesn't tell the time. Everything else is down to personal opinion. If a watch works for you its all that matters. If you have taken offence to this video, sorry but it's because you have allowed yourself to take offence. If you have a milgauss enjoy. If you don't and want one, get one. If you don't, don't.

    • @bradyreid9270
      @bradyreid9270 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I don't think the majority of viewers are actually offended (at least I hope not). I believe they/we are somewhat concerned...seemingly, because the overall "thought processes" expressed in this video are not of the typical caliber of Watchfinder & Co.

    • @johnbenton5102
      @johnbenton5102 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Chris Moore the point of the video may have been what you described, but in the process they chose an amazing watch and said that it is objectively bad and used subjective reason for it. It was a horrible video. There is reason to take offense if you can’t frame your argument or point correctly. Imagine a reputable watch retailer saying some of your watches were OBJECTIVELY the worst watches you could buy. Even if the point is to illustrate there is no “worst” watch, they have said that YOUR watch has no real features. By being OBJECTIVELY the worst, it can now only be assumed you that the reason you bought that watch involve a plethora of non reasonable decisions that lead you to buy it. If this was really their point they did a horrible job of conveying it.

    • @77cjam
      @77cjam 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johnbenton5102 Ok I take your point to a level. Perhaps his use of objectivity could have been better conveyed. I think the whole video is based on the question "Why?". Why does the Milgauss cost £2000 more than the OP? Why does a watch so elegant and restrained have a lighting bolt for a seconds hand? Why does it have a green crystal? What is its purpose? Yes these actual aspects could be subjective if you like or dislike them. But its asking why they are there from an objective point of view. As said perhaps the video didn't do as well as it could to emphasize this. Personally I quite like the Milgauss. I'm not a huge fan of Rolex but I appreciate everyone's opinions and rights to love whatever watch they want.

    • @77cjam
      @77cjam 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bradyreid9270 I think the thought process is there and if you listen to the questions posed in the video they are valid. I think perhaps the style and clarity isn't the best and potentially labelling the Milgauss as the "worst watch" (he doesn't say it actually is) is a step too far. It's a video more about the purpose of aspects of the watch. But then again who knows, think we all see these from our own point of view, so I'm just giving mine that's all. I could be wrong and according to my girlfriend I often am!

    I think I must be the only one who finds Rolex hate refreshing. The small line up in the Rolex roster is getting quite boring for me, whilst as any watch lover I can appreciate that they make a good watch, they are simply no more than that. Omega have always been a personal favourite of mine despite some wacky watches in the range, its nice to see new designs that blow the Rolex counterparts away....

    I just got mine last week and I love it! From the green crystal, to the orange lightening bolt to the minutes by fives (whatever that is called, not sure the official term) and the fact that it doesn't scream ROLEX! when you walk into a room with it, i love this watch.

  • @Mothmax
    @Mothmax 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Disagree. Purchased one because of the work I do. When Rolex released this watch, there weren’t as many magnetically sealed watches around, and I got tired of resetting my datejust every day. The green glass actually looks rather smart most of the time. Suggesting this is the worst watch in the world, and criticising it for its quirky second hand and green glass is overreaching. But in relation to price, prices are different all over the world. In the year they re-released these, in Australia they were retailing at AU$19k, or EU9k. I was able to purchase mine from a Swiss retailer for around AU$8.5k, which was about EU4k at the time. An oyster perpetual was EU3.6k at the time. So people’s subjective feelings and limited stock might have attributed to the increase in price.

    I don't think he bashed the watch at all. Did you see the video until the end? His reasoning is that sometimes, even if something is called or deemed objectively bad, or ugly, or whatever, it doesn't keep it from being appreciated, seeming unique and ultimately working out. Like acquired taste. I might have been naive, but whatever negativity existed went away at the end of the video.
