  • In this episode of our Shapez 2 MAM build, with a functional prototype of the completed 4 layer MAM it's time to tune and optimise everything. We start with the color mixer and try to compact the process to speed up the MAM

    I like the idea of mixing colors in the MAM to save some space/length and switched to it from my previous seven color setup. I think however that I found a slightly simplified setup in terms of pipeing and especially logic: I mix all 4 colors in two 2x1 blocks and at the very end select the color to use from 3x7 pipes with 21 pipe gates to feed 3 launchers. This eliminates the need for any mixing logic at the cost of individual mixers: 24 instead of just 12. This also allows for a very short output pipe which has to drain when the requested color is changed.

    You should check the throughput a single pipe can handle. You can pretty much link up 4 fluid launchers/catchers to one pipe, removing the need to cross over 3 pipes of color to the next module

    Pipe Gate in the wires section reduces fluid by 50% for some reason. Even though it says it should let all out, it doesn't. So one color going through multiple gates brings it down again by 50%. So a 100% starter pipe can easily be reduced to 12.5% by the time it gets to the painter. Adding more fluid gates in the same area for some reason allows the full amount through.

    I really love your dynamic color mixer. Other people's MAM's I've seen input every color and it seems like a huge waste. This way is super compact and totally sufficient (especially now!). I'd really like a copy of it when you get a chance to push to main ;). I've been using your blueprints and optimized the Top Half/Bottom Half/Final Shape to include the logic and rotation, and also put the rotation on to the quarterers (so far). Maybe Crystalizer next? Keep up the great work!

      I completely agree, the dynamic color mixer is the one thing i want to add to my current MAM! I didnt even think about it until he did it!

      @@DataEngineerPlays I've used a couple of different blueprints as modules from other TH-camrs to build my MAM as I find different designs I like, its fun to watch people build things and instead of just yelling at my screen about something I think you could have done differently I can just go grab the blueprint and do it myself :D. I know its kinda a pain to update each blueprint then upload them, so I really appreciate anyone that has them available when they can. Thanks again!

    You can fit your paint mixing in a 1x3! Someone probably already said it but 4 jumper fills 1 pipe

  • @theinnocenttomato9836
    @theinnocenttomato9836 11 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    Not sure if you have but you could reduce the size of your shape selector to a 1x4 or a 2x4 if you use all 4 lanes going out instead of using the same one then you could use a single full 12 belt painter by just combining all of you mixer output onto a single space pipe with each mixer sectuon being a single column of the paint. Might have to switch from combine the pipes horizontally on the painter to vertically to reduce pipe amount.

      No I don't think I ever manage to get it that compact. I could iterate on the design for 40 more episodes if I really wanted to honestly!

    you don't need to reduce the platform when you're compressing designs. Build everything on a 3x3, then just compress the components then you can fit multiple parts on the same platform, your only limited by the number of ports on a 3x3 for the amount of modules you can squeeze in.
    also 1 3x3 has more tiles than 9 1x1s due to the border space being filled in

      Probably misinterpreting, but wouldn't that mean your MAM is wider/longer with more platforms? the more platforms the slower the MAM

    • @MisuVir
      @MisuVir 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@DataEngineerPlays Depends where you put them, I suppose. Sometimes I just have too much logic to fit on a single platform that's already full of belts and machines. So I put an adjacent platform that only contains the logic gates and wiring, then send the signal over to the other and just wire it into the gates.

    You were testing Color Mixing too close to your camera, so sneaky Pipe Gates pass all what they can, but if you move your camera away for awhile they start slacking -_-

  • @WAF74
    @WAF74 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

    How do you make it smaller? Stop wasting 12 pipes of floor space when 3 pipes will do. 4 launchers saturate a pipe. 1 pipe per floor. Every launcher has its own mini vat that must fill and drain. That's a huge source of your lag. Route pipes up and down in a knotwork of pipes and hop them as little as possible.
    I hate how you take the single source signal, do the logic once, and then triplicate the routing across each floor. You have 12 signal transmitters (some sitting in the hopped space of a pipe!!) instead of one hop and splitting a wire at the pipe gates. You test EQ White on all three floors instead of running a wire up.
    You're too hung up on having 3 similar planes with 2 color mixers on it (per floor) instead of realizing that all 6 color mixers' output is 3/4 of a single pipe and can all fit on one floor. This also gives you more flexibility to route the wiring and pipe work. (per platform)
    A 1 space tile platform isn't three 14 by 14 planes. It is a single 14 by 14 by 3 volume.

    • @DataEngineerPlays
      @DataEngineerPlays  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I think my brain just defaults to "do things once copy things up 3 floors" but you're right... I should try to think more vertically as well, if I have 6 mixers across 3 levels they could totally share 1 pipe
      The signal sourcing thing is definitely just laziness... I know I can do the logic once and take the signal up

    • @MisuVir
      @MisuVir 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@DataEngineerPlays Same. I dislike routing things on upper levels and prefer to have them all on one layer so everything can be simply copied upwards. But I've slowly come to realise that that only makes sense for shape belts. For pipes, it seems much better to avoid fluid launchers since you need 4 launchers (1800/m) for each full pipe (7200/m) and each launcher has a buffer which takes time to fill and discharge.

      3 belts for the top right, quarter into full 12 belts
