I would also love to see this effect with cream, beige, and taupe (Not gold). I am sick and tired of everything gray, black, and white which in my opinion is institutional. I purchased my appliances one year ago and they are biscuit; not stainless steel, gray, black, or white. It wasn't easy but I did it. I have yet to paint my cabinets with the biscuit color but with a wood floor it will look warm and inviting. I want a compatible countertop with No veins! Please do a video with these colors.

Hey there. Just wanted to say thanks. I'm pretty new to epoxy pouring, about 2+ years. I set it aside about 6 months ago because I couldn't get it right and epoxy pouring mistakes are expensive!

This is absolutely beautiful! I am going to copy this recipe but with darker tones rather than lighter for my dining room table. My cabinets are white and my countertops will also be white after I epoxy them and so the darker greys, black, and subtle whites in the table will look so gorgeous!

It's very important to me to have a refined smooth edge ... I generally love the earthiness, but I'm in need of the least amount of bumpy edge as well...
I'd love to see if you would finish with a different timing or a different frame of some kind instead of the tape or if you would actually go back sanding and buffer. Please let me know how you do your magic.

You can have any edge you like. You either buy the substrate of choice with a straight edge or you cut the edge straight when you're preparing the substrate for the paint.

    • @nroman1977
      @nroman1977 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

I can get my edges to nearly be flawless smooth. The trick is done in sanding. If you time the color coat right your color coat will be thicker when it goes over the edge. Put a scrap piece of MDF behind your sandpaper as a sanding block and carefully sand the color coat on the edge as flat as you can without going thru with 220. Tape back up your edges. Then I do a thin clear about 2oz a sqft to fill in pinholes on the top spread with a 1/8 vnotch trowel so I add a little back to the top and move the material closer to the edge as you chop. Then pull your tape and brush the edges as it goes over with horizontal brush strokes end to end as it comes over the sides. When it cures it will be nearly flat sides with just some minor ripples. Then do your normal clear with 3oz a sqft. Tape up the sides of the counter again for this coat. Spread/Chop/torch and then pull the tape when it's still warm and it will flow super smooth. It will stop dripping before it jells but be super smooth. The edges of my counters have less ripple than my Ikea high gloss cabinet doors.

This is what I need to do in my kitchen when I finally have one again. Had a custom cabinet contractor leave me without a kitchen back in February this year. It's taken a while (since that failure) to get this situation remedied via big box store, and I'll finally have cabinets delivered 1/13/22. But now their countertop vendors are taking up to 10 weeks, so if I wait on THEM, it'll be a year and at least 2 months WITHOUT a kitchen. I saw you guys in my FB feed recently, so I started following you and soaking up all the great stuff you've been putting out there, and I thought "hmm... I could do this... I'm really handy..." My cabinets will be dark-ish, so I need something like THIS to offset that. After being left without a kitchen, AND the initial deposit I gave that thief, it's costing me more than twice what it was supposed to, to fix what he left me with. SO... I'm seriously contemplating tackling the countertops on my own, to avoid the total cost reaching 3x what it was initially supposed to cost with the guy that no-showed on me after my kitchen demo. Love what you put out here for us, and really hope I can pull it off if I try this. Templates first, of course! 😁

I would love to know what steps to take for a smooth edge (seamlessly blended from the top of the counters), but haven’t seen it on the website instructions or in this video-is it possible to achieve what I am describing? Any help would be greatly appreciated-thank you so much for your time!

I didn't know our bath countertops had yellowed so badly until I wanted to redecorate and add color, but the counters were the wrong color! It's time to change and update. I do acrylic pouring now and use epoxy resins, don't know why it's taken me so long to find the perfect method for my counters, too. Duh! I know why, it's such a BIG expense to replace if I mess up; in my pouring, I can just scrape the canvas, wash it or toss it. Not countertops. Your method has taken most of the fear out and I'm ready to try. Thanks for the thorough instructions and demonstration.

Hi Mitch here! First off U GOT THIS!
Mix up 1 gallon at a time
Write on you mixing cups what color mica powder and how much epoxy you're putting in, I'll mark with a sharpie or a piece of tape the level of resin. This will keep the ratio equal each pour.
Build your exotic pour buckets with the same ratio of colors and the exotic pours will meld together.
Once all the epoxy is out I'll make baby exotic pours and do veins if you want that look. It can tie the different pours together if needed.
      Good Job!!!!!
Mix 2 min, scrape sides and bottom of bucket mix another minute!

Does this technique work if I did it on a concrete floor. If yes, would it be better to lower the temperature to 68 to slow the cure?

Just a question, why you don’t use a respirator or eye protection, I have been doing resin work for a year, which has caused me to have chemical burns on eye lids from the Vapor

You mentioned a few times to heat your Epoxy up to help it flow with a space heater which I do not have but I put the "A" Epoxy in the kitchen sink and filled it with very hot water for an hour ahead of my counter top pour. Now that I know it works I'll heat up both parts A and B next time. .Well worth the trouble epoxy flows ever so well now. Flowed extremely well when I tilted my work. Worked out great poured like magic. And I also after mixing all my colors in small cups poured little one inch rows of each color across a paint roller pan instead of the big bucket.. I did a white flood coat on the whole counter to be sure it had full coverage and the rest of the exotic dirty pour just flowed on the counter top easily. I did a one inch row of white across the pan then below it a one inch row of grey across the pan below that another off white with grey white paint .I did like four rows in the pan and then I poured it on counter top. This is more time consuming but I feel it's worth the control you have keep colors separate and you get to see how your colors are being laid out on the counter so now you can add darker or lighter colors ahead of time in the pan and place them where you want them.. I loved how the colors hardly mixed with each other until the instant I began to pour them out. .LOL My wife did not want any black in counter and wanted a small streak or two of black. When I was pouring the grey cup out I used your mixing method to have a single drop of black dye on the edge of the cup and just barely let the Epoxy touch the black dye to make grey. So I quess i turned the grey cup and It poured out of the black dye sitting on the ups lip and BIG lol I got a pretty black streak that i loved. and the wife liked it too... After I was completely done, Like 3 or four hours later I poured of what was still in the cups and i made a sample board. wow ! talk about a long working time. .that is iN SMALL AMOUNTS never let it stay in large amount longer ( a quart or over more ) than 4 minutes or so Get it on your counter top or small cups ASAP ! Shockingly I had about 3 or 4 ozs in a cup from the pours from the day before and it still like the minute I poured it Like 14 hours later...I would not have believed anyone if they told me no way love it
