    He was very sick and had many illnesses especially insomnia. Many medications for each. Had a blockage in his intestine and it caused a heart attack. He took a lot of prescribed drugs and nobody helped, just watched him at 42 years old die. This man's private life was a horror and he shut down by 1976. His persona was still amazing and he was loved as a singer. I was hooked on him at 8 years of age and I love his music more than ever. He is truly the king of rockin roll
    He embodied the American Dream and his generosity is unmatched. He belonged to his fans and he lives forever with his fans hearts. There are several new generations of Elvis Presley Fans still being born today and is one of the most successful artists dead and alive after 40 years of his passing.

    No, he did not drink at all, but he was taking a lot of prescribed medications for a large list of health problems toward the last year of his life 1977. He actually wasn't as heavy as he appeared, although the late night show always poke fun at his bad eating habits, which is true. If you check just a few months prior photos of him in Hawaii playing football, so the gear he wore toward the end, bulletproof vest, and the bloating made him look big. The meds sometimes interfered with his speech, but not singing voice.

    Elvis found world wide fame in 1956 when he was 21 years old with his exceptional one of a kind talent in singing and his unique dance style which was controversial for the time. He was drafted into the army in 58 for 2 years and had to pause his career and go to Germany. He was treated like just one of the lads in the service and was even promoted to sergeant. When he returned from his military service at 25 years old he had a successful career in Hollywood making in total 33 movies including 2 documentaries of him on stage performing. Most of the movies these days except for a handful (the main 2 being jailhouse rock and king creole) are seen as bad but they made money and Elvis was the highest paid actor in hollywood so his manager stuck to that formula as unsatisfied and unfulfilled as Elvis was with the quality of the movies that he was churning out 3 a year! In 1969 he decided it was time to get back into live performing and so he did so for the rest of his life touring the states, but not Europe etc as his manager was an illegal immigrant from holland and was worried if he travelled with Elvis overseas he wouldn't be allowed back in the county. So unfortunately Elvis never got to tour outside the US. Sorry to ramble on but Elvis had a very fascinating life. 👌

    What really kills me is how fast he went downhill. Elvis was at the top of the world from 1968-73. He was fit, energetic, owned the stage with every performance, and owned the world at that time. Then you can start to see him get heavier toward the end of '73 after the Aloha from Hawaii special. Those last 4 years were unbearable to watch, but yet he never lost his voice.
    He had a manager who drove him into an early grave by keeping him locked into his personal contract and not letting Elvis do what he wanted, assisted by a quack of a doctor who pumped him full of "prescription" barbiturates (many of which have since been removed from legal medical use by the FDA) who ultimately lost his license to practice medicine after Elvis' autopsy came out, compounded by his increased reclusiveness and bad diet.
    This particular concert was filmed professionally by CBS, as they were with him on this tour filming cuts from each show that was going to be aired in September of 1977 on CBS as a 1 hour Elvis live special. They ultimate did air it, with an added message at the beginning from Vernon, Elvis' Dad.

    So Elvis actually never drank alcohol. He was only six small weeks away from dying here. Elvis was on his deathbed basically. His body was heavily inflamed because he had a disease which was very rare and doctors didn’t know how to handle it so they pumped him full of prescription narcotics. Those narcotics, and lack of sleep from a hectic work schedule probably caused his fatal heart attack. His diet was poor at the end so that didn't help either. The perfect storm sadly happened on August 16, 1977 he was found unresponsive from a massive heart attack they tried to revive him to no avail. Elvis‘s voice was getting better as his body was shutting down.... his organs were 2 to 3 times larger and was in tremendous pain during this concert.

      What a load of crap, He did drink and occasionally smoked, You say His body was heavily inflamed because he had a disease which was very rare and doctors didn’t know how to handle it so they pumped him full of prescription narcotics? He paid Doctors George Nichopoulos and Elias Ghanem very well with Cars, Homes, Expensive Jewllery for almost unlimited access to prescription And he was a chronic insomniac since childhood, If youre going to spout facts at least make sure they are real facts and not facts you've conjured up to make this Beautiful yet flawed man sound Perfect.

      @jennywren7822 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What you are seeing here is what fame and prescription drugs to deal with it did to Mr Presley.
      He was a prescription drug addict here, that was his excuse, they were prescribed and not street, so that made it ok, and died of a drug overdose, which is widely recognised now. His last few years were hell, doing the same concerts singing the same songs with no let up from Parker and no change for his future, he was a spontaneous man who got bored easily and was telling those round him he didn't want to be Elvis Presley anymore and the awful life he had, no life, and was becoming a recluse, he wanted to be ordinary with an ordinary life, something he could never have.
      As Martin Sheen said in an interview "Nobody knew what to do with him, he was in a box and couldn't get out" only one way out.
      Its obvious here, he's completely out of it, and not because of a rare illness as you've put it. If he couldn't get them from Dr Nick he went to another Dr, he had quite a few, even his dentist for strong painkillers, by the way his colon was blocked by white residue from the huge amount of strong painkillers he took.
      Have you ever seen a healthy drug addict?
      As for the never drinking alcohol, there's actually a video on here of him in front of the audience with a cocktail in his hand, obviously on something, with the audience looking very uncomfortable, and smoked.
      The only thing that would have made his life any different was his beloved mother living longer, she died at the age of 46 of sclerosis of the liver, she was an alcoholic.
      He was found unresponsive, he'd been dead for hours, surrounded by tablets and syringes on his bathroom floor, and this from one of his close entourage on camera.
      Elvis Presley didn't stand a chance, the ruination of a beautiful human being inside and out, by his mega stardom and the greed of Parker to fund his gambling addiction.
      God bless him ❤

    You need to see Elvis the 68 comeback 'If I Can Dream' where Elvis is in a white suit on a dark Soundstage in front of his name in red lights. The song was preformed shortly after Martin Luther King JR. and Robert Kennedy were killed. I've been around for many years of Elvis and this is my favorite all time, just as impactful every time I watch it. You will be blown away. Elvis was not a big drinker. When he first started out he toured around the south on what was called the Louisiana Hayride, it was a circuit of venues, not an actual hayride. He was touring with Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and others not so famous. These guys were prescribed duet pills (speed) so they were wide awake to preform and could get from town to town without falling asleep. They pretty much did a different venue every day 5 or 6 days a week. Well, when you are living your life on uppers it's pretty difficult to actually get any decent sleep, so they were also prescribed downers. This was the early 50's so prescribed pills were looked at as safe. Elvis lived on those prescription drugs until he died. He was off them for 2 years while in the army, but that was it. Elvis hated drugs BTW, the 60's drug culture pissed him off, a lot. Elvis didn't consider himself an addict because his drugs were prescribed. Another aspect of his health was being overworked. Col. Parker was an ASSHOLE. He worked Elvis into the ground and took most of his income while he was at it. He hired Elvis' personnel, travel everywhere with him, Doctor. Dr. Nick, he shoveled pills down Elvis' throat at the direction of Col. Parker. The song you just reacted to was, I believe, from the last show Elvis did. He hadn't been feeling well for a couple of years and unfortunately he started eating the comfort foods that he loved as a child. We Southerners fry a lot of food and Elvis soothed himself with a lot of comfort food, it's a big part of the weight gain, the other part was Col. Parkers gambling debt. Any complaints Elvis had health wise were swept under the rug, after all, Dr. Nick pretty much worked for Parker, not Elvis. Elvis was suffering from heart disease and the effects of taking hardcore drugs daily for 25 years. He never should have been allowed to get into such horrible shape. He died too young, 42 was just too young. He had so much more to give. The man was humble, kind, generous, loved his fans, and had perfect pitch. No one can sing like Elvis, he was one of a kind. Saw him in Vegas, he sang his ass off. Hope this answers some of your questions.....

    Elvis didn’t drink or smoke. He did like his cigarillos though but didn’t inhale them. Throughout his life he was plagued with many health issues and therefore was prescribed a lot of medications.

    Elvis at this time was heavily into taking pills and his diet wasn't good either, but he still could sing his heart out as evidence by this video. Now the song itself was written in 1955 by Alex North and Hy Zaret. They were written for a movie called Unchained and it was originally performed on that movie's soundtrack by Todd Duncan who was a African American baritone Opera singer, which for that time period was a big deal. Nowadays, why add the African American part ya know, but Duncan was the fist to record the song. The Righteous Brothers recorded it ion 1965. It was one of the top recorded songs of the 20th century, having been recorded in five different decades, 50s-90s. Elvis's version was recorded just months before his death in 1977.

    • @carolcliff5150
      @carolcliff5150 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the 1950s the song was a big hit for Al HIbler, and for Roy Hamilton. I suspect that Elvis didn't start singing it until after Roy Hamilton passed away.

      @@carolcliff5150 It was also done to great success by The Righteous Brothers, beginning in 1965, of which their version was used in the movie Ghost, and is my favorite version

    If you want to hear what his voice could really do, go to th-cam.com/video/QhYtB7pjkS0/w-d-xo.html for "Tomorrow Never Comes" - hardly ever requested - starts out slow but builds to a loud, powerful finish that could blow you off your seat; bear in mind, Elvis had a lung condition similar to asthma & used an inhaler, so Lord knows how he got through this concert is unbelievable!

    This is from June 21st 1977 exactly 56 days (8 weeks not 6 as many will say) before he died. You can see he has difficulty even breathing. Unfortunately the audio quality does not do justice to the performance.
    The version is closer to the earlier Roy Hamilton's than than the Righteous Brothers'.

    Throughout 1976-77 he came close to dying three times, as early as February 1977 a shot of adrenaline was punched into his heart to resuscitate him, this performance was in June 77 and he died 6 weeks later, the man should've been in hospital not on stage singing his heart out.
